What a great story. After reading how difficult it is to run a comic book shop it’s amazing to hear how he gives to charities. I had a friend who ran a comic book shop and he said some months you barely get by so l am impressed he does this. Very inspiring Nick. You have a heart of gold my friend!

I really appreciate how they write notes about the particular issues with the older back issues - and it's actually perfect for those of us who don't care about grading because a couple little doodles by a kid in the 60s will lower the price but it's still a totally fine and readable book. would love to see that in more stores
I visited this store during my honeymoon in Salem, back in September. I was amazed by the back issue selection and the number of different action figures. I'll definitely visit them again in the future.

MOVE IT OUT!! I used to own a chain of comic book stores, seven locations. I was destroyed during the early 1990s gimmicky comic book crash. Lessons I learned.....1) understand allllllll the various taxes in your area as it's a silent killer to any mom/pop business. I had the sign tax, sandwich sign tax, display case tax, environmental tax, workman's comp, unemployment insurance, matching social security, check alllll those phone bill taxes too!! 2)Never fall in love with your inventory, MOVE IT, clear out those Aisles!!!! Always run sales! Don't get buried with nickel and diming customers, MOVE your inventory and make them happy to come back again and again!! It's $$$$$$ you will need when the going gets tough. I would Never do another brick and mortar as I know all the headaches involved. Government doesn't care as there is always the next dreamer with his life savings who may replace you. If I did start again I would definitely have an online presence on Ebay, etc.
Wow I'm only 45 minutes from this place and never knew it existed. I will absolutely be stopping by this weekend. I'll let him know your video sent me.
These are the dudes that make the comic community worth it. Sad there's so few of them I had 3 sellers 70+ one just passed one is in a nursing home and one still going. I've been buying comics And toys from him for over 35 years. I try to get younger poeple into comics every chance I get. Seems like of it isn't on a 3" screen they aren't interested.
Nick seems like an amazing business owner and super cool guy! He definitely sets a standard for the LCS of today. I hope many other shop owners see this video and learn a thing or two. And I think winging it worked out perfect for the video. 🙌 Wish I was closer to the Boston area. I’m down in south Jersey. Hopefully I can make it up there some time! Wow, Mike. What a cool place. Now you got me wanting to visit the other side of the country again. If you're ever out in the Portland, Oregon area, I have got a great shop for you to visit.
Looks like a real nice shop. I saw a few keys I would have picked up on the spot. Living in Las Vegas it's hard to get nice keys for a reasonable price. I think it's because the economy here is really good. A lot of collectors make really good money here. The last time I was in Arizona I checked out a comic book shop and couldn't believe how many keys they had and the reasonable prices. I figured the average collector there doesn't make the same kind of income.

My pick of the three would be hands down the FF #51. I believe Stan Lee also said this was his favorite issue in the run (or maybe even ever?) and it still holds up very well. I still crack it open every once in a while to read it. Great profile on Nick and his comic books store, a very salt-of-the-earth kind of fellow. Getting kids interested and excited about the hobby is important! I hope you run into more quality people like him on your adventures!

Great salesman, that Nick, and with a solid social conscience. Morrison's New X-Men run was great, so different to anything that had appeared in the Mutant books before, and graced with lovely art (I know not everyone is a Frank Quitely fan but I sure am). FF 51 is iconic, one of Stan's best FF stories. I share your view of old comics with writing or drawings, as long as it's not excessive and doesn't obscure the story I don't mind it. I have a few Silver Age comics in which the original buyer has filled in his or her personal details in back cover ads and I think this gives the comic a certain provenance, it's part of that book's own unique history. And I always wonder where that person is now, what they're doing and if they still read comics. The two Silver Age X-Men books are superb, just edging out the FF 51 as best in show.
It's videos like these that sometime make me wish I did live closer to local comic shops, especially ones as beautiful and noble as Nick's Comic Strip. I saw many books you looked at that I need, so I'm going to reach out and see if I can order some because this store needs to be supported. out here doing the good work Mike, thanks for bringing this store to light and awesome pick ups!!!

Nick's layout is truly amazing! Everything I saw in you camera shots made me want to yell "STOP! Look around! I want to look around!" Nick... love you high energy! Wish I was there. I think Nick's picture has replaced the worded definition of HUMBLE! Framing! Who cares about the framing!? The on the spot instant interview was great! I think the interview turn out better that nothing was planned. It captured the both of you "as you are!" Two guys talking and having fun. That, my friend is why people are subbing by the thousands! You are "the regular guy!"
Hey Mike, thank you for this. As a comic book collector AND 10 year pancreatic cancer survivor, I was so surprised and delighted to hear Nick's was donating to the Lustgarten Foundation! My wife & I take yearly vacations to Salem and will definitely be visiting his shop!

I'm always inspired to comment on your vids cuz they're so cool but often don't, but this one I'm willing to make an exception. I grew up in Middleton MA, but moved to Reading around 6yrs old (currently in VT tho) so Danvers was close to home. I was long moved out if Nick's opened in 2016, but it seems like an awesome shop. I know you're always looking for store recommendations, so if you're ever back in that area, there is an amazing shop in Reading called Comically Speaking that has been around for over 20yrs now. It was actually the first job I had- bagging and boarding comics, organizing back issues, and my fave was opening packs of cards and pulling all the holograms and special cards and then making sets for $2/hr cash + 2/hr store credit but u better believe he got it all back when I was done (I was maybe 12 or 13 at the time in the early 90s). This was actually how I saved up and got ASM 298 and 299 off the wall back then along with a buncha other Mcfarlane books, since Spawn was my fave and he was and still is my fave artist, and I still got em. The store has grown and moved to the local VFW, where it is now 2 floors, one for comics and one for everything else collectible. The owner Patrick is still a friend to this day, and I think it would be well worth a trip if you're ever in that area again. I believe they have back issues at a constant 50% off, and every year they run a sale that is even better. I'm sure that Patrick would love to host u, he's usually there Mon Wed Fri unless that changed, but they do have a website ComicallySpeaking.com where u could contact him. Bonus- the store phone number has been 781 944 XMEN since they opened, right up your alley, right? Anyway, at 42yrs old I've begun collecting again this past year, and love the channel and watching u grow and seeing the cool books u find! Thx so much for the content. Cheers!

I'm also hoping to go to the store in mid-May after I get back from vacation and have time, it'd be sick to see u there! Tell Pat I sent u if u go, it's def worth the trip especially if he's there to show u around and I'm sure he has a few hidden gems that aren't on public display. One time yrs ago, after the Spawn movie came out, he showed me the shovel movie prop that was in the graveyard scene where Clown "knighted" Al Simmons as Spawn, still bummed to this day I didn't buy it, altho I dunno if he was selling it. I doubt I would've been able to afford it back then, but it was cool to see! One thing I def enjoy about being an adult collector is that I actually have the money now to afford these things, whereas when I was a teenager, not so much :)

I grew up in Middleton MA, but moved to Reading around 6yrs old (currently in VT tho) so Danvers was close to home. I was long moved out if Nick's opened in 2016, but it seems like an awesome shop. I know you're always looking for store recommendations, so if you're ever back in that area, there is an amazing shop in Reading called Comically Speaking that has been around for over 20yrs now. It was actually the first job I had- bagging and boarding comics, organizing back issues, and my fave was opening packs of cards and pulling all the holograms and special cards and then making sets for $2/hr cash + 2/hr store credit but u better believe he got it all back when I was done (I was maybe 12 or 13 at the time in the early 90s). This was actually how I saved up and got ASM 298 and 299 off the wall back then along with a buncha other Mcfarlane books, since Spawn was my fave and he was and still is my fave artist, and I still got em. The store has grown and moved to the local VFW, where it is now 2 floors, one for comics and one for everything else collectible. The owner Patrick is still a friend to this day, and I think it would be well worth a trip if you're ever in that area again. I believe they have back issues at a constant 50% off, and every year they run a sale that is even better. I'm sure that Patrick would love to host u, he's usually there Mon Wed Fri unless that changed, but they do have a website ComicallySpeaking.com where u could contact him. Bonus- the store phone number has been 781 944 XMEN since they opened, right up your alley, right? Thanks for the recommendation! I’ve actually been meaning to go there for a long time based on others’ recommendations as well and was hoping to check it out in the next month or so. I'm also hoping to go to the store in mid-May after I get back from vacation and have time, it'd be sick to see u there! Tell Pat I sent u if u go, it's def worth the trip especially if he's there to show u around and I'm sure he has a few hidden gems that aren't on public display. One time yrs ago, after the Spawn movie came out, he showed me the shovel movie prop that was in the graveyard scene where Clown "knighted" Al Simmons as Spawn, still bummed to this day I didn't buy it, altho I dunno if he was selling it. I doubt I would've been able to afford it back then, but it was cool to see! One thing I def enjoy about being an adult collector is that I actually have the money now to afford these things, whereas when I was a teenager, not so much :)
I live in RI and this shop is only an hour and change away from me. Looks like I'm taking a mini road trip soon!
