    DR Solo GPS Fix / Modification Spacer Card Installation at 4:19.
    Special Thanks to Matt for his input..
    This video presentation assumes you have a basic, yet thorough, understanding of your 3DR Solo Drone. So, I won't waste your time with very basic details.. Hence the relatively short video.
    The GPS Fix/Modification is a very simple process. The 'Drone Powe Card' card piece shown in the video can be purchased at our eBay Store along with other SOLO graphic accessories. This piece can made yourself. It won't be as precise as the part we offer but I encourage you to try.. Getting it close will help.. FWIW - I did not have issues with my GPS but I am getting much quicker GPS lock times with higher lock numbers. I can fly sooner post 'Drone Power' install.
    The card stock piece acts as spacer and moves the copper shield farther from the GPS antenna, where it should be.

    Really appreciate the very easy to follow & the BEST way to install the SOLO gimbal. Everything went super smooth. I would DEFINATELY RECOMMEND this way to everybody that has a SOLO. And anyone that "dry" installed the gimbal initially, I would suggest redoing it this way. Peace

    The easier way to remove the GPS cover is to use a small flathead screwdriver. On either side of the battery latch, there is a small slot. The tabs that hold the cover on actually snap into these. Push down gently in the slots with a screwdriver and they will pop loose. Now you can slide the cover forward easily and remove it. Take care to not scratch anything.

      It's designed to be removable with NO tools.. Many people have damaged the GPS Cover in the process. If done properly with either method you should have no problem or damage. Cheers

      Cascade Graphics - I haven't had much luck in trying to remove it by squeezing. Once I discovered that the tabs that hold it in are actually on the on top, I can remove it much easier and with no need to force anything. The screwdriver that comes included with the gimbal is the perfect size to release the tabs. If you're reasonably gentle with it, there is little risk of damaging anything.

    Please my solo is not conecting to the controller I try to do the factory reset but there is not a orange flashing light I keep pressing for longer then 30 seconds, the light is always on, I try to connect the controller with another solo drone and it is working fine, please if you have any recomendation to fix this problem I really appreciate, thank you

      It MIGHT actually be a drone issue. However, remove the 'controller' battery and leave it disconnected for 5 minutes. If that fails go to www.3drpilots.com for far more in depth trouble shooting. Good luck

    Thank you for this....
    Question: why is the no adhesive on the left at 4:03? Would the foam not vibrate out of place?
    Has anyone followed this modification and flown without anymore limp or vibration?

    • @CascadeGraphicsBend
      @CascadeGraphicsBend  8 років тому

      +xyreyes The Foam I used had an adhesive backer. So no it won't move. I placed one piece on each gimbal rubber isolator (2) and one piece on the interior forward section, on the chassis, where the HDMI cable magnet rested directly on the SOLO's plastic frame. And finally one last piece above the gimal data cable, just in case it were to pick up any vibrations from the battery tray/chassis contact. It's temping to go over board with the foam rubber but i just focused on the points where the HDMI cable was floating and touching the gimbal or the housing.. If there is only one thing to take away from all of this is that the 'silver gimbal rotation damper' cannot be allowed to have anything, including the main board, come in contact with it, ever. Any resistance or undue load is the primary culprit of gimbal failure.. Hope that helps.. Cheers and thank for watching.

    I installed the gimbal as shown here but still get lots of vibrations in the video. How do I update the firmware ? Or is there something else happening? I also removed about 2 inches of the plastic sheathing around the hdmi cable and no change. The gimbal was making a buzzing sound while stabilizing so not sure if it may be going bad. Just got it so not sure.

      Which GoPro Model? if it's any other model than a GP4 BLACK you'll need to install the requisite 'counter weights' on the gimbal.. Otherwise, It sounds like it may be a bad gimbal. Just make sure that under no circumstances that the gimbals flywheel, it has to spin freely, is not contacting anything. Especially the circuit board that it very closely reside to.. Introducing drag, of any kind, to the flywheel is a very bad thing.. The cable routing must be closely looked at while closing up the drone. The last part of the video where I pull the cable to one side is important. It keeps the cable from contacting the flywheel.. Hope that helps...

    • @CascadeGraphicsBend
      @CascadeGraphicsBend  7 років тому

      At 4:55 - That's the flywheel.. It's very easy for the gimbal power cable, shown right next to the damper/flywheel, to contact and impede its rotation.. This must be completely avoided for proper gimbal operation. Hence the final routing of this cable when closing it all up.

      Firmware ?'s - go to; 3drpilots.com
      This is the best resource for SOLO pilots...

    If you unhook gps module don't you have to recalibrate gps?

    • @CascadeGraphicsBend
      @CascadeGraphicsBend  8 років тому

      +david ringler No, disconnecting the GPS's molex connector is the same as powering the Solo off. Meaning it's a passive action, as are most GPS antennas, including WAAS GPS.

    just got a 3dr w gimbal, installation appears to work showing green flashing light, however my control says no gimbal detected. firmware and all should be up to date as I updated every right out of the box, I just want to be able to change camera angles with the angle presets like I should be able to, any insight is appreciated!

      It was not pre intstalled I just bought the package deal at best buy so it came with it and I installed it myself. I updated the firmware right out of the box as they suggest so I believe I have the latest software/firmware. Its a solo, and currently the system info is --- gimbal = 1.3.4, controller = 2.1.0, controller firmware = 1.2.8
      thanks for taking the time to help

      go pro is hero 4 silver and the version the gopro is running shows 3.0.2, the firmware of the 3dr solo is as follows
      app -- 2.1.0
      gimbal -- 1.3.4
      controller -- 2.1.0
      controller firmware 1.2.8
      thanks for the help!

      Mitch Ghelfi did you ever get your gimbal to work. did your controller ever detect it. I am in the same boat. Gimbal has green breathing light, and also stabilizes if touched, but remote says no gimbal detected. any help would be appreciated .has all the latest updates

      Which GoPro? Stock gimbal accommodates GP4 BLACK.. All other GP4 (i.e. Silver) require counter weights to be installed. Also, on the interior of the GIMBAL BAY the cable assembly can accidentally come in contact with rotational flywheel (silver in color) creating drag on the gimbal and or the flywheel may come in contact with surrounding circuit board (see video at minute 4:09). Any drag on the flywheel induces a load onto the gimbal motor creating all sorts of issues... Good luck

      Check the 5 minute mark for the recommended routing of the cable.
