I'm only 6 years behind ya, good how too ,found my solo for 140 dollars with back pack 3 batteries controller and go pro hero silver, I have been trying to resuscitate Mathilda now for 3 months. Today she took her first breath in a while,I'll be putting up footage soon

I'm new at this and I'm getting a gimbal for our 3DR. ¿Does this gimbal package include the camera or do I have to use one of my cameras on it? BTW Great channel, has been really really useful
I just took my solo for its maiden voyage today, and man did it have some problems, first installing the gimbal it almost felt like i had cross threaded the screws even though i took a heap of care, then once installed i kept getting magnetic interference or it couldnt find the solo, also it had a bit of a hissy fit and nearly crashed itself for no reason, and i couldnt get the gopro to stream for more than a second or two before it dropped out.

How do you fix the problem with the gimbal wanting to point a Lil more to the rt. This unfortunately causes the leg to come into frame. Is there a way to reach calibrate the gimbal so its straight?

Unfortunately, 3DR is not making the Solo and the gimbal any more. Maybe you could buy a used one on eBay?

I've learned a lot from your videos and wanted to thank you for posting them. Everytime I get the solo started, it asks me to connect the camera to the wifi in order to use my phone as the monitor. What happens when I am not home near my wifi?
+Don Kim The Solo puts off its own wifi signal. That's what you connect to. So you don't need to be near your home wifi.

So frustrating that my new drone gimbal was not functioning. I updated everything. removed batteries and reinstalled....nothing worked. Removed the gimbal and found they never plugged the dang thing in. Works great now!
Glad to hear you got it fixed. I had a problem with mine when I first set it up, but once I rerouted the cables, it worked just fine. Happy flying!

Be forewarned, as of the time of this comment, the gopro hero 3+ SILVER running on firmware version 3.02 will not work with this gimbal period. The only way to get it to work is to manually downgrade your gopro firmware to 2.0 and even after that it only enables the live stream and provides no control over recording and snapping photos remotely (you have to manually push the buttons on the gopro itself) There were rumors of an update to fix the issue on 3DR's side back at the end of September but nothing concrete thus far. Hope this saves some people some time and money!
+Ready Set Drone the Hero 3+ Black has the same frame rates as the Hero 4 Silver... Unless you need 120 FPS then or 4k 30 then no need for hero 4 black. Also the sensor on the Hero 3+ and 4 silver is the same.
I wasn't so luck. My gimbal just blinks blue and never moves. I'm waiting for a reply from 3DR. I took it apart 4 times to check wiring and it all looks fine. Gimbal doesn't show up in app settings either.
You'll never hear from 3DR at this point because they are no longer in business.
8:14 Starts to show issue...make sure to route the HDMI cable and gimbal cable around the outside of the electronics or the motors that run the gimbal.

For how much this quadcopter costs, it's kind of shit the condition they are sold in especially with how long it has been since they launched.

@22Tech, very much wrong. With the info below I have never had an issue and neither should anyone else.
@Scott Hubard here's how you make a gopro hero 3+ silver work.
You need to downgrade your firmware on the gopro to a 2.xx version. Here's a download link for it provided by 3DR. (if youtube does not remove it. If so PM me and I'll hook you up.)

I'll let you google on how to do the downgrade. Later firmware will stop the gopro from working with the Solo.
Once that is done follow these steps.
1.) With the Solo OFF, place the gopro in the gimbal and turn the gopro on via it's power button. Seriously do not have the Solo on.
2.) Turn on the Solo. You should now have a live feed in the app.
3.) You will have no in app camera controls. So to record you need to manually press the record button on the camera. This can be done through the gimbals plastic with a gentle but firm press.
4.) Fly and have fun with live feed and working recording. All gimbal controls will work as they should.
5.) When finished be sure to remember to manually stop recording the same way you started and power down the gopro
This link has more information on how to install the downgrade. Be warned if you use the gopro app it will want to update the camera. Don't do it otherwise you'll just have to downgrade it again.

Recommended camera settings and what I use are 1080p medium 60fps. Using wide you will get legs and props in shots all the time. Same will happen with my settings in high winds or if the solo is flying or turning too fast. ANy way you'll get used to it.

Sorry for the late reply blake, issue is you need to downgrade the firmware and in app camera controls will not work. But yeah doing what I outline in my other comment the camera will work fine, just 3DR should of made it clearer 3+ SIlvers were only partially supported. They led many to believe it'd work just fine.

I don't think you can install that camera on the gimbal. However, the Solo comes with a normal mount (no gimbal) that might work.This page shows how you connect the GoPro to both the gimbal and the fixed mount. lol your gopro is cracked in the same exact spots mine is cracked. I didn't do anything to my gopro. No drops, take very well care of it. Those cracks just appear.
Mine never works! Brand new from the box. Gimbal has power, green LED to red LED. Gimbal moves after powering on the Solo, but sometimes it shows "no gimbal connected" on the remote. I tried playing with the gimbal controller on the back of the remote but gimbal does not move at all. It only shows the angle of the gorpo but the gimbal never moved. I reinstall and checked wirings but the same problem after putting it all back together. Recalibrate again but the same problem. I tried resetting the solo to factory settings, now both Solo and the remote control is not communicating to each other. I sent it back to Amazon and waiting for a replacement. Seems like 99.9% of gimbal users have the same issue.
I'm sorry to hear that. I agree that the solo's gimbal was not the easiest thing to install and now you can't even get support. Hope you are able to get it fixed!
Ready Set Drone do you recommend the Karma? I like the fact that it comes with everything full package and the gimbal, so perfect unlike the 3DR gimbal that people having so much problems with them...

I had the same problem as you can see in this video when I was testing the Gimbal in Orbit Mode.ua-cam.com/video/G_5XPLTDXmc/v-deo.html I took mine apart and moved all the wires to make it a clean install all is good now. Also its good idea to do the Level Calibration after the gimbal is installed.

That happens when the cable inside is not routed correctly. Open it back up and check to make sure that cable is not close to any other components.
Yea Robert that is nicely said but after removing the four internal screws I still can't open the back, any hinds !!!??
Removing which four screws and trying to Open what "back"? You should only be removing the 3 small screws holding the base of the gimbal to the bottom of the solo frame. The front corners have molded clips which keep it from popping out....thin optical screwdriver will release them.

This company has been a nightmare to deal with. They have a common software issue that mine experienced. 4 weeks ago I sent my request for a solution and was told that it would be 2-3 week for it to be reviewed. It still has not been reviewed! After my purchase I found an article in Forbes Magazine pretty much saying that their new technology gave them the ability to take over the industry, but apparently they screwed something up because the article also said they are struggling to stay alive. BUYER BEWARE
3dr solo gimbal is SHIT!!!! not smooth at all i was going to get the 3dr solo at the time there was no gimbal ... and there tried it out with the gimbal and was all over the place the gimbal is not smooth at all.. so i got the dji phantom 3 professional. omg gimbal on the dji p3p it just amazing smooth its like night and day... i can see in your video what im talking about....
