Shireen's death scene was Kerri Ingram's last day on set, she and Liam Cunningham ( Davos ) exchanged gifts, he gave her a silver stag, she gave him a pillow embroidered with a stag.

He's her intended, not her her husband. The attack by the sons of the harpie has nothing to do with the fighting pits, it has to do with the masters wanting slaves back.

The man that almost killed Jorah is a Braavosi Water Dancer, he fights with the same style that Arya was taught by Syrio

That’s Ser Meryn Trant the one that beat Sansa and slapped her when Joffrey told her to. He also killed aryas "dance teacher“ Serio Ferrell

Stannis cares more about power than he does his own family. He proved that when he had his daughter(Shireen) killed and his brother(Renly) 3 seasons before that.

Stannis cares about "order" and "justice". He wants the Iron Throne because (as he sees it) he has an obligation as the rightful heir to Robert. He's even implied several times that he doesn't want the position and probably isn't suited to it. But to him everything is about duty and obligation. Doesn't make what he did any less horrific or any less vile. But I really wish the show hadn't fumbled the Stannis depiction so badly, despite Stephen Dillane's great performance.

For me personally the burning scene of Shireen was the most difficult/disturbing in the whole show.

Lmao Tyrell is not on her list. It's the man behind Tyrell, protecting him. That's Meryn Trant, aka the guy who killed (as far as we know) Arya's sword teacher Syrio Forell in S1. In earlier seasons when Arya would recite her list, the name "Meryn Trant" would always be on it. And yes that's the guy who plays Mycroft in Sherlock. But you've seen him in GoT before too. In S4 when Stannis and Davos went to the Iron Bank for a loan.

Stephen Dillaine, the actor that plays Stannis, lost his parents in a fire. Incredibly difficult to do that scene for him.
Also the books are completely different. At this point in the story, Shireen is with her mother at Castle Black and if she gets burned alive by Melissandre (the books are not there yet) it will most likely be to resurrect Jon Snow and it won't be an order from Stannis as he is nowhere near Castle Black and in a fight with the Boltons and Freys.

    • @DigiCount
      @DigiCount 2 роки тому

Lol it will be utterly ridiculous if anyone other than Stannis orders it. George isn't one for easy answers that keep the hands of his main characters clean just because the fans want it. If you need a "how," Mel has the ability to see across long distances with her crazy powers

    • @jpa5038

@@DigiCount "I'll have no more burnings. Pray harder!" ~ Stannis I think Melissandre will convince her mother, who is at Castle Black with Shireen, to do it. She's even crazier in the books.

@@jpa5038 I hope you're not suggesting that Stannis is not going to do this because he said so, or that a tertiary character (if we're being generous) is going to take the decision out of his hands.

    • @jpa5038

@@jpa5038 I recognize what you're saying. I also question how you think that the story we've been reading thus far is going to be so kind as to let Stannis off the hook regarding his daughter's fate. Stannis is going to "not kill" Shireen the same way he didn't kill Renly: at a distance and with plausible deniability.

Great reaction. And don't worry, you're not the only one enjoying it. This is basically the reaction of most new reactors who go into it blind without any notions about all the online negativity. Remember that the Asoiaf purists who hate watch these reactions was a tiny percentage of everyone who was watching GoT back then. The casual viewers couldn't care less about what was in the books. Check the IMDB ratings, the unbelievable viewership numbers, the record breaking slew of awards, all the articles, the insane popularity during that time...and you will get a much better estimation of just how big GoT was in the later seasons than the hyper criticism of the Asoiaf purists. Everybody was watching this shit and I mean everybody. But they drove away pretty much the entire casual fanbase in the final season. The only ones who remained are the ones who've always dunked on the show and that's how the purist attitude became the dominant narrative about the later half of the show. Cause nowdays you don't wanna get clowned for saying you once liked the show and everyone love to pretend they were reading the books since 2002. But back then it was a different story when this season and the next one was winning 20 something odd Emmys combined.

George is on record saying Shireen's burning is his idea. Maybe he's gonna do fanservice and change his mind after all these years, who knows. But if it does happen, then it's going to be like this. Circumstance slowly stripping away the moral compass from your heroes. Because there are none, only the choices that make you the lesser monster. If someone really thinks George will have the Evil Red Witch sneak up behind Stannis and kill his daughter without his knowledge on some Cinderella shit, then I got a bridge to sell them. Feel like the Bolton saga will conclude roughly in the same way and it ain't gonna be Stannis who takes them out. I'd say the Shireen stuff is perfectly in line with George Martin's nihilism.
Basically what began as a tongue in cheek meme of Stannis Da Mannis turned into a full blown "overlooked righteous hero" grievance cult. They just used Shireen as a scapegoat to satisfy their confirmation bias about the show

Whenever I watch a reactor get up to this episode I have to prepare myself to mute at the Shireen's death scene because her screams are just too traumatising. Luckily with you I didn't have to do that, so thank you. But yeah having said that, this scene for me is much worse than the Red Wedding. Before this, many people were rooting for Stannis but then after, many wanted him dead which is understandable.

Listening to Shereen screams was one of the hardest scenes I ever saw or heard. Stanis in his heart didnt want to do it, he did live her. But he knows and believe The Night King and the dead army are coming, for the whole world.
Melisandre knows he's the one true King to stop it, and at this point Stanis is supposed to be on the Iron Throne. And based on what shes proven, of course he believes it too. I felt some kind of way about Stanis doing that, but he believes he's saving the world. No matter how much it hurts him Sacrificing his only child. I saw this show as it aired , I really enjoy your reactions 👍🏽✌🏾🔥

It's still funny to me just how much book purists lose their collective shit over a record 12 Emmy season for Stannis. But GRRM confirmed in 2016 & again recently during all the press for Winds of Winter that burning Shireen was his idea. Book Stannis while very different, was also rigid & inflexible, & subordinated everything to his sense of duty. Stannis' story is meant to be tragedy, there's a lot of book foreshadowing of his downfall & GRRM has hinted he'll most likely have the same Winterfell arc, no matter how much Stannis cultists delude themselves. It makes the most sense given where the Winterfell story is headed. I guess he is the one character in the show who fits right in a gunslinging cowboy western, so no wonder he's so loved. And of course people in general get frustrated when you take away the choice of rooting for clearly defined linear sides & give them a cycle of lesser evils(Stannis or Ramsay). Now ofcourse the season way more highly rated by critics than the fandom & GoT had become the most watched drama series by this point, so the overtly negative perception didn't have any impact on the general viewers. It was more a reflection of the fandom, with all their opinions becoming some bad-faith variation of "they ruined this or that" & you get browbeaten if you point out anything positive about D&D. Some criticisms are justified, but most are laughably minor inconsistencies, straight up inventing faults retroactively, complaining about why they condensed 300 page subplots, & insane nitpicking over subverted expectations, & just purists overcompensating with the hive mind circle jerk at GRRM's alter to cover for their general lack of analytical ability to comprehend the purpose of the storytelling. The intent of every character(like Brienne) somehow become a 4d plot to demean Stannis lol. But yeah if you were watching the show without a preconceived notion from the fandom negativity, you usually tend to have a different perception. The positives (Hardhome, King's Landing) far outweigh the negatives (Dorne). The key to understanding 5 is it's a long & foreboding setup for "the wars too come". They build everything up just to knock it all down. It's fickle, it's the "wicked game". Even the cinematography & score is a reminder of a sinister dreary winter gloom & doom. The shots capture the hopelessness really well. Winterfell with its grim spectral beauty represents that to a tee. Some say it relies on shocks, but the shocks are in the books too & the buildup is what makes the shocks hit. But not everyone can enjoy a tense mournful buildup, they want it all instantly. You have to take it for what it is, a beautifully poignant pitch-black Shakesperean tragedy. Also a season with 24 nominations & 12 Emmys which is still a record I believe.

Stannis is an absolute one-dimensional shite character in the show AS WELL AS in the book. He's a Jason Statham character in a series that takes pride in not having Jason Statham characters. Stannis quite literally represents the anti-Asoiaf, and yet he's loved so much because what the purists deep down really want is an action hero savior. There's nothing I hate more about Asoiaf fans than the stannery surrounding the "book Stannis" myth. Hate it with a burning passion. The subtle hints of Stannis burning Shireen is littered all over the previous books, and it's absolutely gonna happen unless GRRM bows down to years of whiny backlash from the Stannis cult. Stannis was never a character who was designed to win, he's the one who goes to his doom by way of his zeal of duty and unyielding rigidness. He's written as a tragic antihero from the start, but all the genius experts refuse to see this obvious character psychology. Probably because they're too busy with Ramsay r**** jokes on r/freefolks. Ironic thing is that these are the cretins who think of themselves as the supreme gatekeepers and perception makers of the series. Sad. But I love drinking all the Stannis tears directly from the dozen emmys they won for this season. To purists it's almost as if GRRM's greatness cannot be established unless you go out of your way to shit on everything else. Some of the things they nitpick and whine about are jawdropping petty. I've seen toxic fandoms, but pettiness and sycophancy of the r/got, r/freefolks type Asoiaf purists hellbent on discrediting even all the good stuff is next level psychotic.
