Just got mine delivered today. Looking at reviews as I do haha. Good tip on the chuck for the 1st 20 times. I've read it's an issue but maybe just needs to be used a few times :) Thanks for the review!
Yes, it can drill in masonry but a corded hammer drill or a sds plus rotary hammer would be a better option if that is going to be the main usage of it
I like the 996 but when i saw that personally, it was huge and heavy which is not ideal doing some carpentry work it will stress me easily. So i think the 796 will fit me well with it size and right power enough for me and a perfect partner with my other dewalt drill if i need a heavy duty drill i have a 2 corded drill that can do the job
I have thought about buying the 996 a lot too but I have the same thoughts on it. I like the 796, it has plenty of power to do everything I have ever asked it to do and with a 4ah or 5ah battery it is perfectly balanced in the hand. Thank you for watching!
I've been binge-watching power-tool reviews daily for the past two months, as I'm about to invest in my first cordless drill, so I've been doing lots of research. And I have to say, I really appreciate your review of this drill, as it stands head and shoulders above the others. This is what I want to see in a review, all these tiny details you discuss based on your experience. What you like, what you don't like (and why), all these subjective things that most reviews leave out, or at least they don't go in depth like you do. Major kudos to you for that. Plus you are very easy to understand, and your pace is just perfect: relaxed, steady, fluid. Superb! I can also tell you take care of your tools, and I appreciate that. I wish you had used the hammer function more, just so you could tell us what you like or don't like about it, as it's what I'm most interested in, but it is what it is. Thank you for this review! It has been really, really helpful. I wish you could review more tools, 'cause you are amazing at it! Keep up the fantastic work!
Thank you! It’s always nice getting feedback from my viewers on these reviews. I’m glad you found it useful. I do have more tool reviews coming although they aren’t on hammer drills
Excellent video. 14:50 shows why these drills aren't for me - they are beasts with no control. They should have put a good, well calibrated, versatile mechanical clutch instead of this e-clutch that is not delicate at all as you rightly put it.
I've just bought this drill, on speed 2 when I push the trigger then let go for the machine to stop it makes a click/rattle noise, is that normal? I cant hear it on yours
@@toolreviewsandrestorations ok thank you, wasn't sure, I've never had this before on a drill so I automatically got worried thinking it was a defect. As mine makes it every time, haven't tested it while drilling, it was just as soon as I opened it and of course testing the buttons etc
Just search for Dewalt spare parts on google and you should be able to find a seller. Otherwise type the part number into google. Thank you for watching.
Just got it form home depot, 250 usd for the 796 drill, 2x2Ah batteries, charger and plastic bag, pretty handy for light work, I hope I use it on hard metals soon
Just purchased this drill and I’m sad to say I’ll be returning it. The batteries feel very loose and the selector switch feels like it’s from a cheap toy gun. Tbh the whole unit feels low quality. So disappointed as I’ve got a trusty DeWalt corded drill that never lets me down. Went for this for the convenience of cordless but this unit is disappointing.
I came for the concrete test. I left unsatisfied

I just got the DCD996 it's a beast, blowing right through any material!!!
Cheers buddy. Enjoy watching your video.
I got the 996. Its awesome. But the 796 is my favourite. Compact and powerful. Love it. 🏴😉

I have the same drill and love it, no issues and never lets me down ever, I run mine with 4ah compact batteries.
Thank you for watching!
No chuck wobbles ?
Thank you for watching, the chuck is true on mine.
@@toolreviewsandrestorations Cheers, this go well on Concrete / Brick ?

Have you checked out the new DCD805? Slightly more compact than this drill.BTW,i have the 796 and its a great little drill, along with the 791 driver.
No, I haven’t checked it out. I’m hoping that the 796 I have will last fifteen years or so so I’ll look into a new drill then. Thanks for watching!

Your honest reviews are priceless, regardless of which tools you are reviewing. Thank you for your reply, and looking forward to your future videos. 😎
How about other features? Can you change chucks eg? Maybe fit an sds chuck?
No, you cannot change chucks.
@@toolreviewsandrestorations good to know thanks!
You’re welcome.
@@toolreviewsandrestorations this is the answer i came for. Thank you.
Seems like you are also looking for a proper tool for your money :D
DCD796 to strong at 1 gear. Much better DCD795, very delicate at 1. Beast like DCD805 the same, to strong at 1 gear.
I suppose that depends on what you’re doing
if you want to have allinone it's only 795/790 and 708/709. Strong and delicate in one. 800/805 would be perfect, but it's also too strong for 1st.
thanks for the video
O justo wanna know how to actívate they rotodrill.. bit he don't explain..
All you need to do is turn the clutch selector on the front to the little hammer symbol
Very good video, thanks!

Dcd796 includes mechanical clutches
Yes, it has a mechanical clutch.
I've just bought this drill, on speed 2 when I push the trigger then let go for the machine to stop it makes a click/rattle noise, is that normal? I cant hear it on yours
Yes, it’s normal. It sometimes makes it and sometimes doesn’t.

@@rickr9906 Glad I could help. My dad has the same drill and it makes that noise every time, it's just the brake engaging and stopping the gear box.
Hello do you know where I can purchase a 20v dcd796 motor switch
Just search for Dewalt spare parts on google and you should be able to find a seller. Otherwise type the part number into google. Thank you for watching.
@@toolreviewsandrestorations Ok thanks
Can you use a 20V battery on an 18V drill?
Yes, I do it all the time. Thank you for watching!
@@toolreviewsandrestorations How??? They are made different. Thx
@@mikeike7114 A 20v dcd796 in North America is exactly the same as an 18v dcd796 in Europe
Do you use it much times? Is it worth it?
Thank you for watching. I do use it quite often. If it’s worth it really depends on what you want to use it for.
Can it be used in concrete drilling?
Yes, although only for smaller holes.
Just got it form home depot, 250 usd for the 796 drill, 2x2Ah batteries, charger and plastic bag, pretty handy for light work, I hope I use it on hard metals soon

Hi
Excellent review/display. Subscribed
Thank you
Son, grip the drill like you would a pistol. That thing has some torque and could break your wrist holding it that loosely
I read this in the voice of Hank Hill 😂

But this is the strongest in his class, no other compact hammer drill reaches 70N/m unless u go twice the price of this
@@TheJuliusCo I’d happily sacrifice a few N/m for better build quality.
Mines the same pal. In fact batteries that loose it disconnects when the going gets tough and vibration gets high
