    Was torn between another well known make and a Dewalt. Looks like the Dewalt have moved up to the no 1 spot on the shopping list. Really impressed with how it walked through the concrete block.

      I was impressed with that too, normally concrete blocks can be difficult to drill with a cordless but this made very light work of it.

    Thank you so much for the review. I have a DeWalt DCD780 20V cordless drill/driver. Don't laugh but I hadn't a clue what any of the settings were for. I also had no idea of the power it had. That is a brilliant piece of kit. What a torque. I have never seen a cordless drill making a hole in a brick like you did so quick. I have 2 cordless drills, one is Hitachi and the other one is Ryobi, but both of them are nothing compared to that one. I had to buy a hitachi SDS (brilliant piece of kit, I call it the demolition gun,lol) to do heavier jobs during my flat's refurbishment. Enjoy your new toy.

    Thanks for the post. I have ordered a kit that comes with the impact driver. With the 2" hole saw on, you had the drill on torque setting #13. If you had it on the drill-mode, it would have drilled through the plywood without hesitation.

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  3 роки тому +3

      That is correct, but the torque control is to prevent damage to the drill and the user, which is why I always use it with hole-saws.

    that is actually smaller than the old 12v xrp, very nice for an 18v, the light is a bonus, no more messing with a torch or finding one that isnt flat, the 2 speed i think is less messing than the old 3 speed too. is there a side handle for it? my makita 14.4 i had to drill a 6 inch deep 13mil hole in steel, i thought that was pretty good going for cordless!

    Did you find that forward and reverse gear changer felt a bit lose? I've had a Makita in the past and it had a middle (safe) selection which this one doesn't seem to? Or if it does it's too easy to have it slip out.

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  4 роки тому +1

      No, its absolutely fine with this drill, I have never had any issues with it.
      I had a similar problem with a Milwaukee impact wrench at work, there was a small piece of spring steel, which had dislodged, so the selector button was loose and did not engage properly.

      Yes, you need to apply force to the drill, also ensure that hammer action is selected. It’s also important to make sure that the drill bit you are using had a tungsten tip. Example drill bits here- bit.ly/3uaRP9B

    Hi handyman what drill would you recommend that can drill using circular drill bit and also won't get overheating for continuous using around 1 hour period? This is because i have a drill that overheat very fast and also can't grip the circular drill bit very well..and of course i am looking the affordable one :)..and not cordless

      And actually i am drilling woods not very hard wood ...but its too frustrating it wont go through and i have to chisel it in the end...i would rather chisel it all the way through j/k

    Hello. I have a few questions please. WHY did you use the low setting, instead of high, for the drilling into wood and metal? In general, isn’t higher speed better for drilling? Also, when you used the hole saw, why didn’t you put the drill into drill mode? You put it on # 13 instead. WHY? Is that because it won’t kick/jerk your wrists if it gets stuck in the wood? The clutch stops the drill. I know if it’s in drill mode, the drill can jerk in your hands. A little risky.
    Lastly, do you still highly recommend this drill? I don’t want to spend a lot of money on the newest version. I was thinking of buying this particular model in 20V (I’m in USA). Do you still presently have and use this drill? Thank you for the video.

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  Рік тому

      The lower speed setting gives more torque.
      When using hole saws, it is important to use the clutch, as you rightly say- to prevent injury to the user!
      This drill is OK, but there are better drills out there. The chuck on this drill is not brilliant, and a few people have commented saying that the chuck cannot be replaced!

      Normally the letters at the end (after the model number) denotes what comes with the actual tool.
      So the DCD796 will be the bare drill on it's own
      The DCD796 is probably the exact same drill, but including a battery. etc.

    Hello,
    I am thinking of ordering a Dewalt DCD 795 as there are really good deals on Ebay at the moment. I am a huge Milwaukee fan, but I can't afford their M18 combi drills at the moment. I've never had a brushless combi drill before so I wonder if they make a lot of difference. :) Are the brushless Dewalts as good as the Milwaukees in your opinion?

Because I want to buy a professional drill, I'm scared about this problem. On youtube there are a lot of videos about this topic and can you suggest me what drill can I buy? Some manufacturers do special deals like that, so that you buy the drill. Then when you buy the next tool, you go for the same make, as you already own the batteries and chargers.
      Bosch were doing a similar deal at screwfix a few months back, they had a Bosch 18v drill kit for about £90 with batteries, charger and case. It was worth buying the kit just for the batteries and charger!
