Went to a local card shop tournament. After 3 duels I didn’t even get to attack. Didn’t even summon successfully on 1-2 of the duels. RIP Yugioh!

@@peaj4812 yea it's real. Because yugioh evolved so much. They adjusted the rules to make it fair. Cuz now a days. You can basically win the match in like 2 turns because a lot of decks can make unbreakable boards or just super annoying boards with like 4-7 negates(not including traps or handtraps if have them). So to make it more fair they just say, if get the option to go first and you'll probably make an disgusting board where the opponent can't even play anyway. So no draw on the first turn for you. Person who goes second gets to draw on their first turn cuz that will give an actual shot at breaking the cuz they have one extra card to work with. If you play any of the dueling simulators(duelingnexus, ygopro, edopro, master duel) you'll see this as well.
There was an event a while ago that banned a lot of newer cards and hand traps. You basically could only respond with cards already on the field. It felt so good to play during that event.
I don’t know why. It would just be ruled by Dark Magician. DM still has relevancy even in MD now. The only thing that can carry Blue Eyes is Jet Dragon.
Legacy of the Duelist has this game mode where you're given random cards from certain booster packs and you have build a deck with those cards. They should add it to Master Duel as a permanent game mode where you can face the AI or other players.

It's basically display current modern people. Everything needs to be fast to stimulate the brain for short period. Wether it's Tik Tok, a very fast MOBA game or Yu-Gi-Oh. People are even addicted to very fast chess games which are on a very low time.
Its a different game because playing 1 normal monster a turn got boring fast. No other tcg is nearly as complex and for a lot of modern players that's the entire appeal! There's so much intracacy and interaction haha. You could maybe play Magic or Goat Format or something if you want that old slow paced action?
I used to play yu gi oh up to the cyber dragon/ phoenix meta. Had a great chaos controll deck back then. I am now playing magic and youtube decided to show me yu gi oh content. I don't recognize the game anymore :D

To every old school player returning: the current meta is to stop your opponent from doing anything. If you pull a knife when he starts his turn you technically win.

This is exactly my problem. I've spent hours watching videos on the new meta and I still wouldn't beat a single person. Old yugioh is where I'll stay 😊
Remember when we actually played with them cards instead of keeping them in a cold safe storage to sell them after some years? Miss my childhood so bad rn
This is so accurate! I felt this playing duel links for the first time (coming from only knowing DM rules). But I love how broken yugioh is now that I've learnt the new way of playing, it's just so much fun ♥️
Broooo that’s exactly like me when you haven’t played Yu Gi Oh in ages and then your opponent does all kind of stuff just to summon 2/3 monsters on his side 🤷🏻♂️💀
It used to be WORSE. For a while, a lot of decks were built around a 0 turn kill - you choose to go second, then activate the effects of cards in your hand to do a bunch of stuff to beat your opponent during _their_ turn. And if it wasn't that, it was all Lockdown decks that would prevent the opponent from playing Spells and Traps, using Monster Effects. attacking, summoning, or literally doing anything other than forfeiting the game.
@@OtakuUnitedStudio There's no possible way to ZTK and you never have been able to. I'm guessing you're talking about Firewall format, the year and a half time period after SPYRAL format and before TOSS where various ways to FTK with Firewall dragon was the only thing anyone was doing. But it's impossible to ZTK other than opening Exodia, as almost all burn and draw cards can only be activated on your turn. Even if you hypothetically summoned 3 Blaze Phoenix on your opponent's first turn using the Tear cards you wouldn't be able to activate their effects so you still would lose.
Most broken tcg ever. In 10 years most battle will probably be finished in 1 turn or 2 given the possibilites of how much you can do with card effects and all kinds of different special summons now.

I didn't know they even made GX. Shocked at the amount of additions and summoning mechanics . But in recent times I made it to diamond once and consistently make it to platinum using fusion based decks the best way to play.
Then you see an eight year old summon goku and vegeta monster cards using a spell card. The same kid plays the field card Namek. The kid then lays two faced down cards in spell/trap card zone. One to swap monsters with each other and other to sacrifice any vegata monsters to replace the switched monster into krillin but is faced down. Krillin's effect is when destroyed, sacrifice Goku and place Super Saiyan Goku on the field

So they would prefer a game that is simple and easy and takes less skill and less thinking because it's preferable to them. Which is fine. But to say the state of the game is bad is sad. Admittedly Kashtira format is pretty dreadful atm. But modern YGO is isn't. But the current state of YGO is actually infinitely better than old school. Old school took no skill, was slow, simple and boring. It was also very 1 dimensional. Hence why I said if he wanted to turn his brain off just go play uno.
It’s funny. Every time I choose to take an extended break, the true love of my card game experience, Skull Servants, gets one more bit of support that makes me want to come back and give my child some updates. It’s a shame I’ll never duel with it irl, not with how things are.
Same I came back after stopping after GX abd it feels like they have massively overdone it with trying to keep the game fresh. Wayyyy to many special summons and negates. I mean what's the fun, when everyone summons 3 top monsters in their first 1-3 turns and matches are so often over within the first turns, doesn't feel like duelling anymore :/
This is not a worthy game any more. Winner or loser, it's sad game for both participants. I wonder how Konami could let it get so bad. Really not worth coming back to it and spending the slightest amount of money. Any other known card game and it's corresponding online platform is a much better experience.
@@michaelq4965 depends if you spent time thinking or actually making moves.
