I only found your channel about two weeks ago and have been following the 3000 Year Old Guitar build. I am loving the channel. What I like about your design values is the assertion that to be good plugged in, an electric guitar also needs to be superb acoustically and superb acoustically first. I've been a player, not a builder for nearly 50 years and was coached by a great teacher early in my life to always audition electrics unplugged first. That process has never let me down and for the few that I bought over the internet without playing them first, I have been both lucky and not. Same make and same model shipped the same week can sound very different acoustically. This is a beautiful looking instrument that sounds great and from this great distance sounds amazing. No relic fakery and I'm really impressed. Perhaps someday you can sell one to a certain fellow in Canada Thank you for the incredible work
Holy eargasm, Batman! Chris, it's blatantly obvious you craft some of THE MOST stunning guitars in the world, and that applies to your acoustics AND electrics now.. but your devotion and passion regarding innovation, voicing techniques, and overall attention to every detail, has resulted in astonishing tone, beautifully-resonate harmonic characteristics, and certain tonal aspects that are limited to an extremely exclusive group of highly sought after guitars! Seriously Chris and Matt, you guys are creating something special.. and I feel like I've understated its significance. You both should feel incredibly proud of what you've accomplished, and prepare for where it will potentially take you! The amp you were given on the way to Rhett's is killer! That guitar/amp combination sounds sick. I'd love to see it stress tested in a studio situation where the amp can be gunned and play with the resonance of the guitar.
Guitar sounds amazing, enjoyed the journey with this guitar and hope to hear some updates from Rhett in the future about it. Keep up the good content guys!
Did some research regarding the D tubes since I was curious. Maple wood (silver to sugar respectively) has a Modulus of Elasticity (MOE) ranging from 7.9 to 12.6msi (million lbs per square inch). The carbon fiber for those D tubes has an MOE of 33msi. So the increases are in the order of 2.6 to 4.2 times stiffer than the maple alone. Also carbon fiber is a lot less susceptible to the effects of time and/or cycles under tension (aka creep stress) in a less that ideal environment. 100ish lbs of string pull isn't much but over of lots time and humidity fluctuations it will shift. I think it's interesting that sugar maple is the stiffest... possibly due to the crystallization of the sap fortifying the wood fibers? I do know if that's the reason, but if so, then it's gaining stiffness much in the same way that the resin is fortifying the carbon fibers.
If you compare growth rings of sugar maple to other types of maple, sugar maple’s rings are incredibly tight. There is a massive weight difference between two similar sized boards. Interesting thought about the sugar content of the board, I hadn’t considered that.
@@keenaheaton8853 I didn't know that about the growth rings, that's cool though. I did read where they make baseball bats out of sugar maple because of its density.
I think for your first electric build you hit it out of the park. That guitar will be very special to Rhett being #1 and acutally a Beta guitar as you are already talking about making a few changes to the next builds. Congrats on a beautiful looking and very resonant sounding first build, and that amp sounded killer!

Great video. The guitar is amazing. Also, when you got to Rhett’s and opened the door and said “Hello?!”, it immediately took me back to when we used to hang out in high school. Keep up the good work dude.
I have one guitar out of 15 that has a great resonance that you can truly feel throughout the body and is very loud unplugged. Interestingly enough, it was made in a custom shop in China, of all places. My other guitars are your typical Fender's, Gibson's, and custom builds etc...They all sound great and are expensive, but the China one tops them all as far as resonating. So I get what Rhett is saying. It will be nice to see what he has to say about it on his channel. I hope he is fair and objective. Like Donkey said, only a true friend would be honest.
I'm confused about something, maybe someone can enlighten me: I thought that the idea of having a solid guitar body was to keep as much energy as possible in the strings, so that it wouldn't be spread to the body (and get wasted). If you have a loud guitar, a guitar that's very resonant, doesn't that mean that a lot of the energy is being transferred from the strings into the body, making the strings having less sustain? I hear a lot of guitar players say that the first thing they do with a new guitar, is to play it unplugged and hear how loud it is. At the same time, people say that electric guitars are equipped with pickups, not with microphones and so, it doesn't really matter how resonant the guitar is because the pickups only pick up the magnetic energy and not the volume the guitar produces. Does anyone know more about this ? (and please, don't be the guy who *thinks* it is like this but claims it as if it were a *fact* )
@Nathan Tardrew Did you delete your reply? I can see the beginning of what you wrote in my notifications window but when I click on it to read it all, nothing appears.
Here's my take on this issue: Since pickups take string vibration and convert that into electrical signal, a more resonant guitar will have more string vibration and harmonics than a "dead" guitar. I've always found lighter solid body guitars and ones that sound good unplugged sound better when plugged in. I think it helps sustain too because the only way the body and neck resonate is if all of the wood on wood connections are super solid.
@@lottrocky "a more resonant guitar will have more string vibration and harmonics..." - See, this is what I'm not sure about. I remember a video made by PRS where Paul Reed Smith said something like "Everything starts when you pick the string. You transfer energy to the string and everything on the guitar will take some of that energy and the goal is to minimise that by using the best parts and choosing the best materials, so that most of the energy remains in the string". I don't remember his exact words but he was talking about parts like the bridge or the nut, saying that if it is made of a soft material, like a plastic nut, for example, it will absorb more of the string vibration (or string "energy", like he said) than a much harder material, like a bone or a tusq nut, for example. So this makes me believe that if the whole guitar body is vibrating, that's a lot of energy, right? Energy that was transferred from the string(s). But now, I'm wondering: the vibration (or energy) that was transferred from the strings to the body, could it be that it goes back to the strings, creating more harmonics since it is being added to the initial vibration of the string? Or is this complete nonsense?! :-) Anyway, I really appreciate that you took the time to read my question, think about it and then write down your opinion!
@@Sadlander2 I think the softer materials would absorb the vibration, keep it from transferring to the wood. The harder material transfer the energy from the strings to the wood with less loss, causing more vibration of the whole system, and in turn more harmonics fed back to the strings. But I'm just a country kid that plays guitar, so who knows? Lol

Such a nice guitar. Good job.
That Trainwreck clone sounds amazing!
Beautiful guitar gentlemen! I didn't see the t-shirt link you mentioned... I'll catch it on the next round. And congrats on selling out your first batch of Tidalcaster guitars. There are going to be A LOT of happy players out there when they are released into the wild.
I have that same t shirt cept mine is blue
Dayum. When you amped that thing, Rhett, the stink-face was just unavoidable. Nice sounding axe, y'all. I still wouldn't trade ya though, ;)
Cool guitar. That quilt/flame top looks incredible! Rhett is a great choice to demo it. Great player and super knowledgeable about all things guitar related. I know David Edwards and his amplifier builds personally. He is amazingly talented. His original amp designs are incredible. The Trainwreck clone sounds great but is only the tip of the iceberg on what he can do. I hope you guys appreciate that he just GAVE YOU that amp. I hope to come down there with him and meet you guys. Rock on!
We sure so! I hope you can come along as well. We’d love to meet you.
@@DriftwoodGuitars Thanks I'd love to meet you guys and check out your operation. That guitar looks amazing. Looking forward to playing it. We are talking about coming down there together and bringing some of David's other amps.
Congrats on 14k!
