When your kick and bass are hitting at the same time with massive amounts of energy and voltage, it can be near impossible to get that loud and fat master dialed in...
You, luckily don't have to worry about that because you're about to learn how to get 1-3 dB of loudness back to your masters using these side chain ducking techniques with some of my favorite plugins to get the job done.
Tune in to learn how to achieve a perfect side chain with your kick and bass working in harmony.
Let me know in the comments which plugin and method you prefer the most!

Great share!
I think this is the 3rd time I've seen people using Nicky Romero Kickstart... I think I'm going to have to try it out!
Reason being is; I actually write in automation on the channel manually.... for every kick which crosses the bass.
So this feels closest to that "envelope draw" workflow;
RE: Pro-Q3, I've used pro-MB so I can control the envelope of the compression;
Love it. Yea, Nicki Romero, bounce in place and you got your volume automation done!
Got It! =)< ...I like the topography of Soothe 2 the most... I have to say that Kickstart 2 truly surprised me! A great way to start side-chaining things while saving up for something like Soothe 2
Yea, it really depends on what you're looking to achieve.
Bradley thanks for that as I have Soothe 2 but I haven't used it as yet till I watched the video to set things as you showed and absolutely brilliant sidechaining on the bass and kick on my track ! I hope you show something about snares that sometimes can drown in a track
Absolutely! Explain what you mean by snares that can drown in a track…?
@@RadiumRecordsHollywood what i meant was how to make sure the snares sit well in the mix
You are so funny, best way to learn
Soothe and Trackspacer do it for me in this area.
Both great plugins but definitely try out some other ways… Both those plugins use multiband resonant filters to EQ/compress down and can add phase shifting/ distortion. Try fab filter and kickstarter and hear the difference, as they use dynamic EQ and volume automation instead, which can be cleaner and more transparent in certain cases.
@@RadiumRecordsHollywood will def be trying that. I have the cable guys bundle. I believe volume shaper is the same function.
Yes. I just don't know if it can do the filtering and freq specific stuff?@@jorgefrias7889
Awesome video, and it was wonderful to hear the differences between all 4 ways of doing this! Quick question: Why did you use a bus instead of directly side-chaining to the kick track?
Sorry, not sure what you mean by “directly”… Explain?
@@RadiumRecordsHollywood I meant that you have created a bus and sent a signal to it from the kick track, and then side-chained the bass to that bus. But why haven’t you chosen to side-chain the bass to the kick track itself, without creating a bus?
What do you think about the Fuser plug in from Mastering the Mix?
Haven't ever used it... Should I?
Since Soothe (and I guess Gulfoss as well) are doing this “intelligently”, would you just always do this as a precautionary move? Or are you only doing this if you hear 👂 a problem?
Oh no!! Don’t fix what ain’t broken… I’m showing you a few different tools here and they all do things differently. You can actually introduce some issues and artifacting when using these if they’re not needed
