I was a high school and college intern for Bud Hobgood (James Brown's producer/engineer) at King Records in Cincinnati back in the day. He ALWAYS recorded the bass DIRECT to the board, and the amp was only used so the bass player could hear in the studio. He ALWAYS recorded the bass on TWO TRACKS. One was CLEAN DIRECT,and the second was recorded with a SLIGHT DELAY on an EMT plate reverb. The delayed track was positioned HARD LEFT, and the clean track was positioned HARD RIGHT. It worked well for his Funky R&B tracks.

I really appreciate that your guys' teaching style foregoes "Do this, then this, then this" for "Do this, because this, which affects this"

Oh Isabelle you are a star ⭐️ I have been playing bass for many years and only in the last few years have I been using Logic? You have just about answered every question I have ever had about mixing bass, so no more mud! Just pure sounding bass guitar and yes! Like you, my fav was the bass guitar mix. I love your videos so much and I always get fantastic ideas and inspiration from you, so more more more…. Please. Much love to my favourite presenter xxxxxx

I've been following along with my mix. It would have been great to see the graph on Isabelle's compressor, but I think I got there. My mix is sounding much better thank you. My favourite was the bass guitar. So funny to see the guy who comes in for the kick! Your videos are entertaining as well as informative.
