Problems with Sleep are probably not a LG fault. There are thousands of articles on the internet that show problems with Sleep in all laptop brands. I have the newest Lenovo laptop and Sleep is unusable.

    • @ChuspinSpain

I read there are issues re. the sleeping function, but I found rather the contrary: many laptops go to sleep but then do not wake up... Plus, I own a Samsung Galaxy Pro, which was cheaper, and it has never given me such headackes, and the sleep function works great, so all of LG fanboys (hired?) writing excuses and blaming it on Windows is simply not true. I repeat, I have had many laptops and none has posed that issue.

Same, with the smaller laptop. I'm sitting here trying to reinstall windows because I 1) put the laptop in my backpack, then 2) took the laptop out and tried to start it. 4 days of troubleshooting, and I'm reinstalling windows. Battery would die unplugged in my pack in a day or so. Worst laptop ever.

All makers make some bad units. And pretty much all makers (starting with Apple as the leader) are now defeating inexpensive third party repair by soldering components. So if you don't like that practice you don't have many alternatives. Consumer Reports shows that in the last 3 years the LG Gram has been a top tier laptop in terms of user satisfaction and reliability. You roll the dice and you take your chances.
(One lesson from this story is to test ALL the ports when you get the laptop. It may very well have been that the failing port was DOA from the start and could have been repaired under warranty. )

True. I should have tested it. Let me say something quite curious: unfortunately, UA-cam has hidden all dislikes, which I think is a mistake. They were very revealing. Now, normally I don't get dislikes in other videous, but for this video I am getting almost as many dislikes as likes. My guess is (and companies do that) these are LG employees or people hired to do so. I mean, no matter what excuses are given, the fact that they apply a "flat rate" of $500 just to repair the most minimal issue is a complete shame, and people should, and are entitled to know it. If I had known it beforehand, for sure I would have not bought it. Companies cannot just limit themselves to sell and sell and then once they've reached that goal, leave customers unattended or "ripped off" if they have any issues. I will repeat again and again, so that people know this. I just hope LG loses some sells and then they change their policy. For sure most of the potential customers are not going to be glad when they find out about this potential repair cost, or am I wrong? This video is not saying all LG grams are faulty, it is a statement about their astronomical cost for small repairs, and that is unquestionable, so they can dislike it as much as they want, or give any excuses or reasons they wish, but that fact stays.

@@ChuspinSpain You probably got dislikes because of the video's title. People dont like to be emphatically told what to do. They just want information that will help them make up their own mind.

Maybe... I mean, I recorded the vid. being pissed off, but I recall having said: don't buy it (or I meant if I were you I wouldn't), and, if you still do want to, just consider this. I meant it that way ☺️. All I really wanted was to convey my feeling about it, and I certainly did. People are free to decide, but knowing facts never hurts :).

LG customer service and very short 12 month warranty are both terrible. My control key came off after a few months, still in warranty, started the return, heard nothing in weeks, contacted them to find out it would COST ME around £125 to replace the keyboard as I'd damaged it. Amazing. LG are without doubt one of the worst companies I've dealt with, the LG Gram is fully loaded but poorly built.

Thank you for posting your experience. I feel your pain and frustration. I am currently experiencing some problems. My intention is not to undermine in anyway your experience. I merely wish to expand on your comments to ask is this is just LG as I would not be surprised if some other manufacturers are similar. This is my experience: I have had my LG Gram 17 for approximately 1 year and 8 months. It's a familiar story. It's out of warranty and they keyboard is developing a problem, often the "A" key is unresponsive. This appears other owners have the same problem. To be fair, I use the PC several hours a day, nearly everyday, I am an IT professional but nonetheless I expect a product to have some more durability. As I can tackle the repair myself I contacted LG to try to buy the replacement keyboard. Firstly it took sometime to do but eventually on a chat session I got the part number. LG could not supply the part to me! They referred me to amazon.co.uk, John Lewis, PC World etc. I am trying to source the part but I doubt they can help and it is taking hours to try to source. To be fair: to date I have been quite satisfied with the product. As @ChuspinSpain points out it's a nice machine, light etc. I have some problems with MS-Windows 11 driver versions, at one time the audio did not work and Bluetooth had a problem but these were Intel driver version issues. I currently have a crash sometimes after waking the PC from sleep but that maybe not an LG problem but a Microsoft problem as the crash report shows it's related to Hyper-V. This also may prove to be a software/driver issue eventually. I also refer to my experience with my Asus ultrabook the LG replaced. This was also a nice machine but after a few years the keyboard wore out and the fans started to get noisy. I also could not get reasonably priced spare parts for that machine hence I bought the LG. In summary: my point is I am wondering if this is a wider problem than just LG. If all manufacturers behave similarly. They are happy to sell you a new device but after the warranty period they are not interested. Not only does this mean we have little choice to spend more money to buy a new PC but also this accelerates the whole eWaste problem further damaging the environment. There should be more consumer protection to ensure we can get the value for money we expect and reduce the environmental impact by manufacturers making it easier to get spare parts. I personally don't mind buying a new machine after maybe 3 or 4 years, I need it for my work but it's a big waste if older machines cannot be economically repaired. In my case I will find a use for old machines. Hack the case, use a plug in keyboard etc but that not what most users can do. Does anyone have a good after warranty experience with any manufacturer? Thank you @ChuspinSpain

The battery died after 8 months in mine (17in version too), they replaced it under warranty. Then, after a year from the purchase, the "E" key stopped working, then the "9" key stopped working, then the "7" key on the numeric keyboard stopped working, then the touchpad "left click" stopped working. LG wouldn't help and wouldn't even recommend anyone in the UK to repair it. Hey LG - something went wrong with manufacturing this "beast", right? Have courage to admit it. I have 4 other non-LG laptops that are 5, 7, 9 and 10 years old and everything works in them. Your laptop is unusable after 2 years of light usage. Shame!

I’m a little confused by some of the commentary in response to this video. [Note: I have no connection to this YT channel]. Major issues with rudimentary functions like sleep, startup, and so on should not be trivialized or rationalized easily. This kind of thinking gives corporations a green light to create even more creative ways to take advantage of consumers. By this logic, I suppose it’s too much to expect my laptop’s screen to turn on or produce colour for that matter? Finally, the laptop was purchased directly from LG. This should have translated into better customer service, since LG’s behaviour reflects directly on itself (there is no middleman company onto which LG can project blame).

Sounds like a lemon. Haven't had any problems with mine, hopefully I didn't just jinx it - I would hate to spend $500 for a 2 dollar part. I can see spending $60 -$120 for a repair but $500 is ridiculous. That is unfortunately how all these companies are operating these days. Look how the cell phone companies first made it very difficult to replace batteries and now the batteries are including chips that must be programmabley matched with their phone and only authorized repair shops can do that.

  • @alexjbriiones

LG Support was very helpful the first time I contacted them, and I used chat, not the phone. I got some suggestions right away on how to fix my issue. The $500 is the standard charge for any repair. For example, in my case, I need a new Wi-Fi card, but since it is soldered into the board, they would charge $500. I have to use a Wi-Fi adapter to fix it, but it's very slow to connect to Wi-Fi now.

My LG Gram 16 managed 40 days before trying to regularly cook itself at almost zero load - 85-90+C temps with the fans going wild - for no reason. Not that LG seems to care.
So based on my experience so far, don't touch them with a bargepole until they fix their shitty support attitude and the random overheating.
When it wasn't impersonating a portable heater, the screen, keyboard and other stuff were just fine. Sleep didn't seem to work as well, thinking about it.

Hey, thanks for the video. I bought a 17" LG Gram a couple years ago, and have lived to regret it. The first thing that started driving me crazy was the keypad is off center. So my hand keeps brushing against it, sending the cursor in all directions. I've never seen another laptop with its keypad off center like this one. I read a number of reviews and many others found it as frustrating as I did, though some did say they sort of curled their hands to avoid touching the keypad. -- Similarly to what this video says, my LG Gram laptop is also all over the place with the shutdown, sleep, and hibernate functions. A third frustration is the often extreme difficulty with just copying text. I keep doing the things that I always do to copy, but it just won't let me. I' just this morning tried adjusting the keypad settings, and I can't find the directions on how to do that. I suspect I'd have a much better experience with a relatively inexpensive model that does the fundamentals just fine.

Yeah, I know what you mean. To be honest, I bought almost some months later the Galaxy Book Pro 15,6', which is half the price (I made a quick review vid with both of them) and super light too, and has not given me any problems so far, so I am much happier with it. This one has the keypad also off center, but less so than the LG. It's a bit more to the left).

    • @ChuspinSpain
      @ChuspinSpain  2 роки тому +9

Well I bought it from LG, I have Windows and, besides, all those things are irrelevant and useless to justify these flaws. And a unit shoud not come with defects, even if it costed 600 bucks, but obviously it hurts even more if you've paid a lot. Is that so hard for you to understand?

They meant a "HARD" reinstall... and that was for the sleep issue (if ever that issue were solved that way, because I even doubt it), but nobody spares me the $500 for a minor repair. Shame on LG. Now I just wish I hadn't bought it and I'll be happy if this vid. alerts people about the LG post-purchase treatment towards customers. "Flat rate" for the smallest issue? Are you kidding me? So what if a key starts malfunctioning? Gotta pay $500 for that? It's a joke.

They get customers who are already upset and they expect results when there usually is not much they can do if it’s a hardware issue. Identifying the problem from on the phone is hard and to me not worth the effort they would pay.
