The Lexus GX is an excellent choice for those wanting a traditional SUV that's as comfortable trudging through snow to the ski lodge as it is dealing with light rain on the way to dinner. Its body-on-frame design gives it nearly unrivaled durability, while the V8 engine provides smooth acceleration, and the large interior offers high-quality materials and driver safety features. The cabin technology is not as cutting-edge as in newer rivals, and the GX's off-road equipment impacts its fuel economy figures and handling agility. Nonetheless, the GX is a luxury vehicle that isn't afraid of bad roads or bad weather, making it an excellent choice for shoppers looking for something comfortable for exploring (or living) in far-flung places.

I really disliked how this Lexus gets bashed, this Is the most reliable vehicle available in todays market, but for some that’s not enough. These other amateur family vehicles need all the bells and whistles to sell. This doesn’t.
They are still selling like hotcakes despite the reviews so obviously lexus is doing something right.
This has all the bells and whistles it’s just dated
Hi BD. I have to agree with your comment, my past boss had Lexus's, there statement that both gave me was" Lexus is reliable and don't brake down & are very quiet". Since then I said when I become $$well off I will buy a Lexus. And this year I'm doing just that.
@@go5582 congrats dude! You’re gonna love it!
exactly I would buy it and keep if forever old school is the best
The GX460 is a vehicle for people who appreciate craftsmanship and things that will last forever. Whining about getting poor fuel economy when it’s clearly listed on the window sticker lol
yeah he's talking about 16 mpg as if he is surprised
👏👏👏
No different than my Ford F150 V8. It’s a luxury “Truck” not a Prius!
I've heard others getting 19 and 20 mpg in the GX. in my platinum Ford explorer I was getting 17 avg.
Like you said not sure what he was expecting from a vehicle built around reliability and functionality. The technology of this vehicle goes back to 2009 when it was released. Back then 16 mpg combined was great especially being a AWD/4WD vehicle. 301 HP was great too for the time.
I own a LX 570 which gets 14 city and 18 highway and I don't care at all. I bought it for one reason and one reason only....reliability.
Just got a 2023 GX premium. Best truck ever hands down. Rides smooth as silk and comfortable
Hi handsome FT. Would you explain in writing, how quite is your Lexus? Thanks . Happy new year.
I get click bait but both the gx and sequoia both probs are mpg .. if that’s going to be a deal breaker why even test drive it ?
@@fettaboyproductions6022 if you’re look for file economy don’t buy a V8. You’re better off looking at a Prius.
GX460 Best SUV ever made
@@justinh8959 a hybrid obviously
might get crappy fuel economy but in 10 years all these Hyundai and Kias will be in the scrap heap, this thing will just be getting broken in 🤓
Funny my Hyundai is over 10 years and haven't had one issue.
I see lots of 20+ year old Hyundais and Kias. What are you talking about?
@@TheRealCatof hahahaha! Wait….. hahahaha! did you say “lots” and “hyundai” and “20 years old?” hahahaha
Sounds like a good choice, if you think you have full control of all other factors in your life for next 10 years. The bottom line you might enjoy your car now and safe some $$ at the same time.
@@MJA5 Yeah, I live in the middle of the city and I see a lot of 20 year old hyundais and kias. Is there a problem?
GX owner here, this guy obviously doesn't love his family as much as I love my mine
Agree, GX owner here,
😅😂
Oh and newly 2023 GX owner here, San Diego
Ditto. He needs a Jeep.
Agree. GX tank
Best SUV ever made. I think you work for the competition
Traded in our 17’ Honda Pilot for a 22’ blackline last year because I wanted something a little more off-road worthy. No regrets whatsoever, the pilot was roomier but for my family of 4 the gx work’s fantastic. Last summer we loaded up and took a road trip through the mountain passes averaging 20~21 mpg’s in comfort. I load up the back and head into the forest to go shooting regularly. I’ve flipped up the third row and hauled my kid’s friends home from football practice during the summer. Its been a stellar vehicle for my family’s needs here in the PNW.
I'm on my second GX460. They are a great SUV if you prioritize safety, comfort and long-term reliability. The factory in Japan where these are built produces some of the highest quality vehicles in the world. My current 2019 has averaged 19mpg over 24,000 miles and I can easily get 20+ if I obey the speed limits. As an added plus, Lexus customer service is second to none. The major cons are a small third row, vague steering and ponderous handling.
Safety?
My GX handles like a Ferrari compared to my 200 series Landcruiser.
Appreciate your review. Lexus is a top safety brand but so are a lot of others. So not a deciding factor in my case. Seeing comments about tops in safety and all. Third row seating and rear cavity space are though. Along with dash console design/functionality (they can be distractions) and technology offerings. At that price range feeling like that’s not a huge ask. Gas mileage is surprising! This model has been a wishlist item but moving down the list. Yukon or premium trim VW Atlas looking to move up my list.
This review taught me one thing about this car. We as general consumers have become so spoiled that we can't enjoy a car for what it is. We expect it to be....more.. I personally love the simplicity and the naturally aspirated engine. 301hp is more than enough, lets be frank. The 3rd row, basically is an option for us to use or not to use. It will have it's uses when needed. But if you're going in thinking of using it as a full time 3 row? There are better options.
In the long run. I would buy this vehicle almost as an insurance to the crazy future were facing ahead. So that to me is leaps "worth it" over all the new fancy coming out. Reliable, great engine. Abundant parts. Yea this is good.
You are very mature, intelligent, insightful, and fair as opposed to his shallowness.
@@leslie4950 thank you for the kind words ended up buying the car a 23 Luxury edition. Loving it.
I've actually never seen one of these being towed... EVER.
I’ve had mine for three months and I love it. I’m a Toyota fan so I’m happy to pay the “reliability tax” at the pump. I’ve had people above 15% body fat in the back seat and they fit just fine. My 2011 Tundra has the same engine with over 170,000 miles. Compare features, brands, prices, and overall value for yourself. For me and my family, this has been a great vehicle.
I'm sure Lexus will be happy he's sending it back. Pretty sure you're supposed to return press vehicles.
I have a 2013 GX 460 base I bought in 2017, currently has 99K miles and almost paid off. The GX has had two recalls since I’ve owned it; one was the Takata air bags and the other was something minor with the 4x4 system. All recalls were resolved under warranty. The GX sucks on gas mileage but is the most reliable car I’ve ever had.
The wife has a 2022 Kia Sorento which now has two recalls; one is a transmission problem which if not solved with a software update may require a new transmission, and the other recall is with the trailer hitch which may cause a fire and Kia says there is currently no remedy.
The Kia is a full of tech and fun to drive, but I’ll stick with my gas guzzler as long as I can.
Never watched this channel before, so this may be unfair but here's my take:
This video was posted 2 months ago, has 23k views, and only 412 likes. The stats say it all.
Specific critiques:
What doesn't he like about the 3rd row seats? I think they're amazing. They look EASY to hide away and take out. They fold flat into the floor for storage and if you want to camp in the thing - which many GX owners do.
Every other complaint, maybe with the exception of gas mileage was a stretch and nitpicky, IMO.
And yes, he knew about the gas mileage before buying. It doesn't take a week of driving to learn that the mpg are what the manufacturer states they'll be.
My assessment:
This clown never intended on getting this car. Bet he returns it for a freakin Tahoe. You can tell by looking at him.
I’ve got a ‘22 GX and love it. I wanted a Tahoe, but the quality control issues with the GM engines over the last couple of years had me looking in another direction. Glad I went with the GX.
In what world do you get to drive a car for a week and send it back? I have this vehicle and love it. The mileage was posted in the window, so I knew about it when I bought it. When any other vehicle is rotting in the junk yard, this one will just be warming up.
Ok, press loaner. Got it.
Unless you're in the Northeast or an area where they use road salt. Lots of Toyota's rotting away in junk yards because the chassis rotted out before the mechanicals gave up. Keeping a body on frame Toyota long-term in a road salt state takes constant maintenance.
It is expensive, it has no much horse power, it is confined and not spacious
However, I bought it cuz I know it will mostly work fine and last long time with my aggressive driving and with my local badly maintained harsh roads for years with no major issues.... It is quiet and smooth for me despite some say it is too much solid
In one word, it is super reliable 👍
sorry butnmy gx is really fat with gas pills
The GX460 fuel economy is the main reason why I still have my 1996 Corolla, not to mention the 1996 Corolla still starts and drives like it has 200K miles on it but in reality has 390K.
I never bought mine for the fuel economy, I wanted a V8 GX in my driveway, love everything about it, especially since Lexus does not fix what's not broken.
One of the weirdest videos I’ve seen. Bashed the car for everything that you admitted the info was readily available and things you would have easily caught within 5 minutes of sitting, looking or walking around the car. Seat heater dial criticism was one of the oddest comments I’ve also heard. Dial has blue and red temp marker indicator which seems to be a universally understood (going back 40+ years). The dial seems to do exactly what it was designed to do, but you want lights that show temp type?
Unless you buy a Suburban (or similar) very few SUV’s in this class that have 3rd rows actually have usable 3rd rows. Seems almost like the car was bought to make content…
If you watch the video he made when he first got the GX he pulled the 2nd row seat forward and was surprised to see that it had a third row…. Then in this video he complains about how the 3rd row is difficult to maneuver…. Kinda stupid really. About as stupid as me wasting time mentioning it in this thread right now…. Haha
@@Cleo4321😅 No, your comment is on point and not a stupid waste of time.
I'm 192 lbs (not 191 or 193) and 15% body fat (not 17 or 13). That specificity cracked me up.
LOVE my brand new 2023 Premium Plus!! FYI, I know it’s a press car and you have limited time with them, but you made a big deal about the 3rd row bottom seat not extending, which could make this a Deal Breaker for some. However, if you simply pull the strap at the top of the seat once it is raised, it will release BOTH the Headrest AND seat bottom cushion at the same time. No need to reach forward like you were doing to extend the bottom cushion!
I figured there was no way that was the way the third row operated because once you open up one side how would you reach for the other one? Lol
The color is fantastic, I love this appearance package on what is typically a hideous vehicle. The thing to keep in mind about this vehicle is that it has not had a major update in over a decade, and if buying a brand new 2023 you're essentially buying a brand new 2010 vehicle. That said, they do last damn near forever as long as you keep up with chassis maintenance if you live in a road salt area.
2010 design and a LC Prado outside of the American Market. So long as you don't look at it as luxury in isolation, and additionally consider its engineering pedigree and build quality/reliability, its a steal for 60k. We will look back on this vehicle in a few years and wish it is still being built.
Absolutely true.
Gonna gold myself back from any comments. 2022 gx is the best suv for the money. Hands down
Agree!
These things are amazing vehicles. I don't have a GX but have a 22 year old 4runner with 200K miles that still runs like a champ. Previous owner didn't even take care of it all that well. Buy one of these or a new 4runner now if you can, undercoat it before every winter, and enjoy headache free ownership. This age of reliable 20+ year ownership daily drivers is coming to an end.
I just bought the 2024 TRD off road premium,4runner. I had it undercoated with only 27 miles on the clock. I managed 21 miles per gallon on my trip to the under sealer. There are those of us, who gladly give up the so called, modern luxury/expensive, items for known reliability. Most cars today will drive over 100 mph, who does that. How much time do you save driving, (unlawfully), at 100 miles per hour for 50 miles, with traffic, lights, hold ups, probably, 5 minutes. What was the point, you are just a danger to yourself and others.
If you don’t need the ability to off road then this supremely capable SUV does not check a lot of boxes for owners. If you want a mall crawler then an RX350, Highlander Platinum, Mazda CX-9 Signature etc will fit the bill. But if image is important then “those in the know” will look at your purchase as wise if you plan on a long term relationship with this old school V8 beast.
Who wants to buy it just because of capability for off-road? It’s considered expensive for this old thing!
Bad review. Very limited info and you seemed biased like you just wanted to bash the thing. For starters, you don't know how to operate the 3rd row, and you do realize that's a touch screen, right? Then you tried to say something negative about the knobs but could only come up with "I don't know." I'm supposed to say something negative here, but uhhh, I don't know. Not to mention the whole sending it back thing being negatively misleading
Lol
@@everymandriver Exactly.
I have the 2022 GX Premium Plus it has a touch screen with the option for the touch pad. The seat climate control is blue for cool and red for heat. The rear third seats are controlled with the touch of a button. Maybe you should have mentioned what's available on other trims or did a little more research before bashing the vehicle.
Thank you.
Why do you guys get so defensive? This is supposed to be a 2022 Luxury vehicle. Power folding seats and a blue light to indicate cold should be standard across the line.
Bought mine back in 2016 “new” and I swore I will go to grave with it. 130k miles on the clock and still drives and looks like day one.
Things I have done through ownership
1- oil change every 6k miles
2- 3 set of breaks
3- 3 set of tires
4- spark plugs at 100k and water pump with engine drive belt.
Still on original battery it seems it won’t die “driving me nuts”
That’s it.
I tend to make things at the dealership so I can spend on maintenance I always get sent home with oil change receipts.. I guess I got used to my previous German car every oil change I get a list of problems avg 3k bill.
Fuel economy 21.5 ~22.8 on the dash mix drive 40% city and the rest highways I use premium gas only 93 octane. Full tank will last me 380~ 400 miles/ tank, if all highway on road trips 460~ 520+ miles depending on road conditions and attitude on 23 gallon tank. I tend to run this sucker dry till next fill up stop.
True opinion!!
This engine require higher rev to pull weight due to lower torque and natural aspiration engine but that doesn’t bother me. Its designed to have lower torque to improve reliability. Thus, I never felt one day that the engine is under powered in any situation.. just slam that gas pedal and it will deliver.
I rate the vehicle 9 out of 10.
Will see you at 230k for follow up update.
21 - 22 mpg?
Right, maybe when you’re going on a steep downhill.
Agree I am on my third one. I lost my 2016 in Hurricane Ian flood. Flawless as far as I am concerned!
So your driving style is to "slam that gas pedal" and you claim to be getting 22 MPG? GOOD ONE! Thank you for the laugh.
If your uncle owns a gas station or you are very wealthy and gas prices don’t matter this is the best truck in the world. It will last 250,000 miles goes anywhere and takes you there in luxury. Only the Land Cruiser. 200 series and maybe two or three other cars in the entire world are as good as this truck. Yes it’s old. Yes it’s dated but that’s not the point. Fantastic Car. Will miss the VA when they redesigned it next year.
It’ll last over 500k miles if you maintain it well!
@@zacklemmon3201 It all comes down to how much u drive. If you drive less than 10000 miles per year, gas price isnt a big deal. Also, if you have your own business, you can get 100% write off in the first year.
I’m getting over 20 mpg highway in cold weather and 21.2 in warm weather / Wisc
Same here 20-21 here in sc but I don’t let my vehicle idle..
Same here 21.5 aver on hwy. Its all how you drive it. This guy must have heavy foot.
What would you suggest in place of the GX?, I love these so called reviews by people who have not either owned one, or put at least 10,000 miles on one. That vehicle you are reviewing will last 20 years, I know because I have 3 of them, oldest one being an 06. The people that buy the GX are not buying anything else, we are sold and love the heck out of them. You need a GM Tahoe or a Ford expedition. I must say if economy is what your looking for, go but a Kia, or Hyundai.
Hi handsome RE. I will add a simple mathematical formula to your comment, 10,000 miles ÷16= 625 gallons of gasoline. 625 gallons X $6.00 per gallon at Costco= $3,750.00 that's not a lot of money to get 10,000 miles per year. Question Why is this host complaining about his Lexus if the luscious luxury and safety is worth $3750 per 10,000 miles?
After 2-month break-in period my 2023 gets 17.4 MPG city, 21 highway.
Rides like a Bentley.
Pulls like a tractor.
Will never break down.
You made a mistake.
You apparently do NOT know the Gx when you say NOTHING HAS CHANGED!
I have a 2022 Luxury GX. Love it. Have had it almost 2 years now. I am not a huge fan of the newest body style. I like having a comfortable and calm ride. Mine has plenty of power. Gas mileage isn’t abysmal. I love the sound system, looks, and features.
It sounds like you just need to get a crossover and stop complaining. For people who can't appreciate what the GX 460 or the 4Runner brings, yes it sucks. I can kind of understand though, you're an automotive journalist. You don't keep the same vehicle for 15+ years and 200K miles.
You missed the beauty of this vehicle and the reason it is so popular. Not sure why you trashed it so hard and failed to speak of its many attributes... from listening to you, it sounds like the GX is "beneath you"...
Ah, thank god you said something. I’m always concerned about the body fat percentage of my passengers.
Kinda surprised how many people are saying this is “based on” or the same as a 4Runner. Definitely not the case. It’s “based on” the Landcruiser Prado and “similar” to 4Runner but most definitely not the same.
It's actually the 4runner. Prados and GX are just badged 4runners
@@bonaanayaga 😂
@@bonaanayaga NO. The GX460 is the Landcruiser Prado... the 4runner is a watered-down GX/Prado... Repeat: a 4runner is a GX460 with REMOVED features...
They're all the 150 series.
@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROADwell, they didn't remove the features that count. My 4Runner has crawl control, multi-terrain select, locking rear differential, and a lever operated transfer case. Are any of those available on the GX 460?
250,000 miles on the engine. Doesn’t suck!
This GX is one of the best SUVs made hands down. I think he doesn't want it cause it is not the latest tech inside. I get that. But the mileage should not be a reason to get rid of it. If you can buy a minimum $60k SUV, the $1250.00 additional gas money per year (16mpg vs 24 mpg) should cause you financial hardship. I used 24mpg as example of a higher mpg (non-hybrid) SUV doing 15k miles per year at $4 per gallon. I wanted to hear what he was going to pick instead. He said go larger but not luxury. Well, what does that leave you with? Tahoe, Sequoia, Suburban, Armada, Expedition? All those will be $60k and over and the only one that will be reliable is the Sequoia, another Toyota product. Would love to know what he actually would buy in this price range.
Amen.
The Grand Highlander I’m guessing
It’s probably the best vehicle you will ever drive best reliability nothing will ever go wrong with it. Yeah it has bad gas mileage but it still will outlast any Honda Kia Hyundai even Mercedes.
A glass of room temperature milk would outlast a Mercedes.
Your behavior (buying cars and taking them back) warrants you a child seat.
😆 🤣
Clearly a press vehicle not sure why he acted as if he purchased this
The only thing that sucks is the 3rd row and MPG. Outside of that, the GX is the best SUV money can buy.

Bought a 2021 GX Luxury with 11k, plan to keep it forever. No kidding on gas mileage-not why we got it. Solid, reliable, Toyota LC Prado off road capabilities. Go get your Kia with a tech package!
I own ‘23 GX460 and really love this car. I wouldn’t change it for anything else. Body on frame, very simple and solid V8. But I understand it’s not the best choice for everybody. It’s very quiet and comfortable, trust me this V8 300hp got enough power for this SUV.
Couldn't agree more!
Just picked up a certified GX 460 Luxury (cameras, air suspension, rear bench, Mark Levinson, and power 3rd row seats, loaded), and took off on a 1600 mile round trip the very next morning. The full time all wheel drive provided an enjoyable driving experience, driving through nearly 6 hours of rain. This thing was right at home. When it cleared up, and on the return trip, we averaged 78-85 miles per hour, and 20.9 miles per gallon. Overall, round trip mpg, 20.4, which is better than my GMC Denali. Certified from Lexus comes with 6 years/unlimited mileage warranty, and 3 years of service. We love the simplicity of the GX 460, . Keep your high-tech gadgets, I'm keeping this one "until the cow's come home"!

Gx owner here and i literally just drove my family cross country with it. No complaints about the 3rd row, the 301 horsepower engine paired with the transmission…..makes it more than enough to get up mountains and around the slower drivers. ….the fact that it’s a Land Cruiser Prado…polished nice and shiny gives the owner the peace of mind of having a bulletproof vehicle that is an Off Road Beast as well.
Some people need a Tesla Model X... and some a GX460.
When you absolutely can't risk a breakdown or side of the road adventure.

No contest! GX all the way.
I absolutely and completely disagree with your harsh review. I own a 2015. Mine has an electric 3rd row. This is the Land Cruiser Prado 150 Series. The benchmark worldwide for durability, dependability and reliability on the harshest terrain on the planet in any continent. There is absolutely no vehicle on the planet other than this cars bigger brother the Landcruiser 300 which can rival it. No German Car, no American Car and especially no Range Rover or Land Rover. Take it from me.....This is the vehicle you would want your wife and kids to be in if they were ever involved in a catastrophic accident. This car saved my wife and sons lives......I understand that this vehicle might not suit your families needs, but this is the vehicle is the gold standard all over the rest of planet. You only ever buy a Landcruiser once in your lifetime. This is the vehicle you would want to be in if crossing deserts, glaciers or a rainforest. At 60K it's a giveaway and underpriced. We gladly pay double or triple that in other parts of the world. Most people will work an entire lifetime just to buy one of these. It's the ultimate trophy for most families. I would buy it any day over anything else on this planet. Money being no option.
Fuel Economy does matter because fuel is expensive but V8's are just badass. It's just that simple for me. Also, Nowadays V8's are litteraly becoming a rare thing. If I buy one I want it too last as long as possible. This one made by Toyota/Lexus is meant to do just that. These last year models are the best of the best. The GX470 was really good, then the GX460 was even better and the refinements of these last model year production ones are near perfect. If you do the maintence on these like you are suppose to you should be able to get at least get 400k out of it. They are excellent off-road luxury tanks that do excellent on road too thanks too the KDSS Swaybar system, The suspension made is by Tokico/KYB specifically valved for Lexus Standards. They have extremely luxurious, comfortable and spacious interiors with reclining second row seats. The few things that these don't have though is computer screens in your face with crazy light shows or any kind of self driving.......Lastly they sound like a V8 and not a vacuum cleaner. I have a 2014 GX460 Base and the only thing better than this would a new one like this. I had a 17 Audi SQ5 before I had the GX and it was an amazing vehicle but it lacked one crucial thing you need in an automobile.....The ability to get you from point A to point B without having to stop for oil, not gas but oil.
This is a cool car but the gas mileage compounded with the outdated tech and quirky tail gate is what really turns me off. Requiring premium fuel it’s gonna cost about $100 to fill the tank. It has an advertised range of 368 miles (16mpg x 23gal tank) which realistically we know you’re not gonna get that full amount. A full tank will barely last on a drive form NYC to DC. That’s almost a 50% increase in cost compared to my current crossover. When I put it in real terms like that it really shows the shortcomings of the SUV.
It’s like a person returning a truck because the gas mileage is bad. Bro you’re buying a truck. Just enjoy the craftsmanship, reliability and comfort.

So, you get a very popular SUV and you do a negative review. Your bias is really showing.
I've got a strong conviction he never bought the vehicle at all. He did ut all fir UA-cam. Period.
Best 4x4 suv hand downs!
Thanks for the video but you didn’t drive the car in this review? How did the 4Lo work? What about the center locking differential? And the active stabilizer bar, KDSS? How did the V8 sound under throttle? Reliability ratings? 🤔
You need a Sienna.
V8 and yet only 301 HP? Doesn't make sense. And still consume 17 mpg? Wow... this is just stupid. Also, they should've made it little easy to open 3rd row seats
You’re right! This GX 460 isn’t all that great. I watched your video and agreed with what you said. It’s different from most UA-camr reviews praised about it! I bought the used 2019 about a year ago and compare the price I paid I could get another suv brand new. This thing is too old in every way you look at. It’s heavy, the hydraulic steering wheel is tight to maneuver around, loud engine when first start from mechanical fan. Not enough power for it’s weight. Bad mpg. Old style and technology. Road tires noises even tires are still good. Talking about reliability same as other Japanese vehicles if keep it maintained. Off-road? Who wants to take this expensive new suv to do so and not many people need to.
the 2 biggest complaints were the gas mileage ( it's a body on frame proven NA v8 vehicle, what did you expect?) and the 3rd row seat folding.. (get the luxury model they're power)
One of the best vehicles ever made.
Honestly for me if I needed three rows of comfortable seating, I would just get a minivan. Yes, they’re not as cool and you’ll probably get made fun of here and there but it just makes sense at the end of the day. As you saw in the video there was barely any cargo room behind the third row plus the third row seats looked like they are best suited for kids. I bet if it was a Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna being reviewed, this simply wouldn’t be an issue. 🤷🏾♂️
LOL, exactly.
@@crazygooseventures finally someone who gets it 😂💯
Remember 30 years from now and 300k+ miles later the GX is still ruining like a clock with virtually no issues... And if well taken care of will look, feel and operate as nice as it does today. More to think about than just fuel millage and wireless charging. I'm personally disgusted that they are changing it for the next gen.

Sorry; the gx460 is not a everyday daily driver it's a weekend family driver, try my 1996 corolla with 394K miles on it for a daily driver to and from work.
I decided to go with a 4Runner, but was seriously considering a GX460(and hated having to make the decision). It doesn't seem like this guy appreciated the strongest attributes of this amazing vehicle. Top-notch craftsmanship, uber-reliability with proper maintenance, and uniqueness (these are rare compared to other SUVs such as 4runners, Pilots, etc)
You got the black line edition for an extra $4,600 dollars and now you don't like the gas mileage? $4600 will buy a decent amount of gas.
Welcome to my channel
Wow, we have an RX 450L, and I thought that 3rd row was useless as there is no room to sit because the front of the seat cushion touches the back of the second row seats. But, at least the 3rd row is power folding and, in our case, we keep the 3rd row down for more trunk space. But, in that car, could you sit in the 3rd row comfortably?
Had a 2014 GX - basically the same truck. The third row is great if you are 10 years old, otherwise it's only good for very brief people hauling stints.
2005 GX still running strong
Those are some pretty nit picky things to complain about. We just bought a 23 gx460 luxury caviar exterior with red leather guts. We traded our 21 f150 platinum in on it. Our f150 was nothing but a headache. 19k on it and 17 recalls, and they never had the parts in stock to fix the recalls. The f150 had ALL of the bells and whistles that you're looking for but none of that matters when you cant drive it because the driveshaft could fall out or the wiper motor might work . I could go on and on but i won't. The gx460 is perfect for me and my wife. Most importantly zero recalls on it. We love it.
I was really close to buying one of these a few years ago. Ultimately decided to go with a 19 GMC Yukon. Not as reliable on paper but with the 5.3 and 6 speed trans it is pretty close and a bigger vehicle. We had an equinox and felt the GX wasn't much bigger, and that year the infotainment and dash was very outdated.
It was a setup. He never intended to keep it. Video was intentionally made to discredit the GX.
The GX is the best SUV ever made
Did you ever talk to me about my intentions OR are you making an assumption?
So you get this for offroading and reliability. The mpgs are bad, but here in SoCal we have $7 gas... so be glad about $5 gas 😆... but seriously unless you offroad you will be happier with a Sienna...
That's right and I totally agree. GXs are only just built for tougher roads and not the regular daily drive SUVs. I don't know why people just don't get it.😅😅
@@dermotwallace5533 exactly. The highlander and lexus RX are great daily driver suvs and way better on gas
Bashes one of the best vehicles on the road…
if you know you know
Luxury to me is fuel efficiency. Luxury is not knowing the gas prices. Luxury is driving without worrying about the cost of fuel. It costs me $40 for 600 miles.
What would you get instead? Not much options out the that are comparable as far as capability and size.
Came here for the comments. Reviews cars for a living and at the same time has never heard of a Gx460. They are tanks and will hold their value better than most cars on the road.
I have heard of it?!
That truck will outlast everything sold in the USA right now. Period and end of story.
Should have sprung for the LX. the jump in price is absolutely worth the jump in price. Everything you didn’t like on the GX isn’t an issue on the LX… plus the LXs are still hand made in Japan.
I test drove one and thought it was too small inside for how big it is. It was nice but just small.
I had the same exact thought 3 months ago. I felt like I had to keep my legs perfectly straight no room to open up my legs to let the boys breath. Lol. Bring back bench seats!!!
you knew the fuel economy when you dropped $62K, it was printed right there on the sticker. Don’t blame Lexus for building the most reliable off-roader on the planet. today’s lesson: read the sticker and bring your family to the dealer before buying a vehicle. blaming gas prices and Lexus and knew the MPG when signing 🤣🤣 what a tool
Too much complain. I love mine so much. It is a bullet proof proven engine.
Appreciate your point of view. I’m 65 with grandkids I need to pick up once a month and they fight over who gets to sit in the back. This is the last vehicle I will own until I am dust and I bet this vehicle will still be going as long as fuel is still available.
You realize that this entire review is about YOU, how much you don’t like the car, how you’re going to give back the car and barely about the car, right?
A bit unfair review, I got the 2023 platinum edition and it's a very smooth ride, quiet cabin, fantastic audio system (Mark Levinson) and premium interiors. The fuel economy is bad, about 7 km per litre but that's the general range for all SUVs. Even the highway acceleration is not the best in class but its adequate for daily commutes, this is a large vehicle and not meant for sportier use. Can't wait to take this off road and see what this baby can do !!
You're nit picking a truck that Toyota/Lexus INTENSIONALY didn't change a thing. You know why? Because if "it ain't broke don't fix it!" it's not that they can't update it they choose to not update it. Less things to break , less electronics to malfunction and STILL these things fly off the showroom like no tomorrow! This is a luxurious japanese tank! That will outlive majority of it's competitors and it's drivers and that's what you're paying for. This is the "end game" truck
You obviously knew the mpg before you bought it. You must have tested the rear seats , and the infotainment systems, Then why did you buy it? Sales professionals hate these kinds of people.
This video is not for me. Not for my family. Take it back.

That truck will probably end up in Afghanistan with 600k on the clock and still run like new.
Gas mileage... SUCKS.
However, when it continues to be a functional, working vehicle, after paying it off for ten years, and you don't have to finance/buy a new vehicle... and requires minor maintenance over the years because, well, toyota, the extra money you spend on gas will be way, way lower than the cost of buying a new car.
If you plan to just keep it for 3-5 years and get a new one, consider the resale value. It'll probably be higher than the competition. What you end up saving on gas on some of the competition, you pay for in depreciation, or catastrophic failures because it was poorly designed.
That's why Toyota is reluctant to update their engines/transmissions, leaving us with hilariously out of date engines, rather than making their customers guinea pigs, when they replace the old stuff, they want to make sure the new stuff isn't unreliable crap and that takes years.
The 3rd row is a joke. But I have never used a third row in over 50 years of driving. What I like is the GX460's third row is stored in the floor unlike earlier models where it folds up against the rear windows reducing storage and blocking vision. The GX is engineered to handle rugged terrain and inclement weather, not good mpg. It you don't need those qualities, which most drivers don't, then the GX is not for you.
Yes
You don't get it for mpg. Stop ruining it for people who buy it for reliability. Naturally aspirated V8, 6 speed transmission, timing chain? Yes, please.
It’s not really meant to be a family sedan. It’s really meant to be out in the mud for executive personnel. It was never designed for like the kids and stuff like that.
sliding glass door from 4 runner needs to be incorporated into all toyota lexus products
