    Hey Starla! Thanks a million for another insightful video!
    I have one question though: I've seen some bestsellers avoiding commas and punctuations in their titles, while some have used a keyword more than once. Is there any solid logic behind these practices?

    Hi Starla, love your short videos (even though I always watch all the long ones too :) ) Would you say copying the title at the beginning of product description affects the listing quality and therefore ranking? Thank you x

      It wont affect the listing quality but it also isn't a good practice. This is a very outdated strategy that sellers once used in an attempt to rank listings on Google. Unfortunately since shoppers can only see a very small snippet of our description before having to click "show more" (which they often don't), it's way more important to make sure that the first few lines of your description have essential information about your item. Though your descriptions can be keyword optimize, this does not mean that they should be unnaturally keyword stuffed. And through our testing at eRank, we've actually found that the weight that keywords within descriptions isn't very significant at all. You can learn more about the role that keywords play in our descriptions in this video: ua-cam.com/video/LMCM7CsIzuA/v-deo.html
      The short answer is no - I don't recommend putting your title in your description.

    Hi Starla! Is it important to have a lot of stock for all of my listings? Will it affect my listing and shop quality score if my items ran out of stock?

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  Рік тому +1

      Stock doesn't necessarily matter. Selling out of an item doesn't "hurt" you, however, the longer a listing is inactive/sold out, the more you'll tend to see it drop in search when it has been reactivated because Etsy relies on customer interaction with listings. If a listing is sold out, customers can't interact with it (whether that be due to the listing expiring, selling out, or your shop being on vacation mode). The more time a listing sits inactive, the more likely it is that you'll lose traction in search.

    Can you change the whole listing as s whole? Decided to stop selling some products,is it ok to change everything in it to avoid fees 😅😅 btw awesome content always

    • @StarlaMoore

      Etsy has stated that this isn't a good practice, for several reasons. Primarily, anyone who has favorited the previous item will have a totally different item in their favorites after you've updated it. Not to mention, the good reviews for that listing were from the previous item. So the reviews that display at the bottom of the listing will no longer be relevant to current shoppers. I'm not sure if it violates Etsy's terms of use but I do know that they frown upon it, so I wouldn't recommend it - just in case.

    Im REALLY confused about something. If it takes etsy 60-90 days to figure out how to place a listing, how in the heck am I supposed to keep on top of trends and keep my keywords relevant if I shouldnt be changing my tags and titles? Or, is the 60-90 day thing only when you initially publish the listing and then after that amount of time you can change them more frequently?

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  Рік тому +1

      It's important to note that 60 to 90 days is the average amount of time that Etsy moves that listing around, showing it to different types of people and ultimately trying to determine what your listing "is" and who should see it. Your listing IS ranking during this time though! It's rank is just changing frequently.
      Typically, trends are not going to change so frequently that you should never need to change them every 60 to 90 days. If this is the case, you may be listing way too close to the intended occasion/holiday (I recommend listing seasonal items a minimum of 4 months in advance). For "fast trends" that pop up out of nowhere (Bernie Sander's mittens are a good example of this), you can still rank for these trends rather quickly, as long as you're acting fast in order to outpace other sellers who may have also noticed the trend.
      But if you find yourself CONSTANTLY changing keywords, you likely need to re-evaluate your strategy. Keyword dominance is gained over time. Every time you tinker with your listings, you essentially run the risk of losing any traction you've gained, which is why you should never touch listings that are selling. I have another video that is similar to this one (a bit more recent) where I cover this a bit more in-depth, as I understand it can be a pretty difficult topic for many sellers: ua-cam.com/video/c-9bOawM9QE/v-deo.html
      I also highly recommend grabbing my free SEO toolbox, as this toolbox covers the questions you've asked in-depth and also includes a free mini-course that explains how Etsy's algorithm works. You can sign up for the free toolbox here: bit.ly/EtsyNoodle

    My best selling listing got a string of low reviews due to factors outside of my control and tanked in sales- anything I can do about this?

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  2 роки тому

      Sales and positive reviews are really the only way to get the listing quality back up. You have a few options.
      - You could try promoting that listing on social media in an effort to drive up the sales of the listing. I recommend using my swipe files for this at www.AlphaSugar.com because the more positive reviews you can get on this listing, the faster you'll be able to bury the bad reviews.
      - You could try running a steep sale for the listing in trigger more buyers. Again, you'll want to make sure they also leave reviews, so my swipe files are recommended.
      - If you do not feel they you can recover the listing, you could copy the entire listing and start over. There will be no listing quality at all if you do this, but no listing quality is better than bad listing quality. It wont remove the reviews from your shop but sometimes starting over with a clean listing is the best option.
      I recommend trying one of the 1st two options before starting over, as it's harder to start from zero than it is to recover a best seller.
      I hope this helps!
