    Haven't even started this video, but I just wanted to say I've been watching your vids for awhile and finally got an eRank account a couple of months ago. I did a rebrand of my vintage business recently, and with that, I put in a bunch of SEO research time because of you. And it is already paying off! I had several months of the lowest shop traffic I've ever had, and that is finally turning around in a huge way. Thank you!

    Solid info! I've been selling on Etsy now for about 5 years but have recently started looking deeper into how I can tighten up my listings, keywords, and better drive traffic to my shop. I've sort of felt like I've been lobbing spaghettis at a wall for a while, and just not paying attention to this stuff at all, and not knowing what keywords have been helping / hurting my shop. I completely forgot I had eRank linked to my Etsy shop so I just recently reactivated it so I can do a more thorough deep dive. My problem is though, my niche is really hard to get good results as the keyword search is low. :( Anyway, plodding forward and loving these videos!

    LOVE your videos. One thing that has confused me about changing tags/titles was when you incorporate holidays such as what you did in your video (Mother's Day). If the item sells, rule of thumb is to not touch it - I have done that before and it tanked my item! If you are remarketing that same item for the next season/occasion and you are wanting to change the title and tags to reflect that, say for Father's Day, what will it do to the algorithm? I know not to touch anything during that 90 day period, but what about after that time frame? I assume that if it didn't sell, make some changes. If it did, leave it alone. How do you handle changing out the seasons/holidays/occasions without tanking your product? In Feb I changed a couple of tags on a product that had been selling but had slowed down - it went from being ranked on page 1 to page 3 (per eRank) and now hasn't sold at all since then. I assume I need to wait the 90 days to work on the SEO a little more. Things are slow right now, so wanted to spend some time working on making sure everything is where it needs to be which includes my tags and titles. Your video helps A LOT!

    Thanks for this great updated info! But what will you do with a very saturated niche like wall art? All the relevant keywords I've found are super competitive! And words that are less competitive doesn't fit the tags limitation of character number... would love to get your advice on that 🙏

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  4 місяці тому +1

      If a category or product is too saturated, you may need to narrow your way down. For example, if you create hand painted pet portrait art, you'd want to be more narrow than simply searching "Wall art". In which case, you could search "dog Wall art" or even "pet art". 🙂

    Question...for tags...as an example I've found a lot keywords for things like, travel shirt, vacation shirt, outdoorsy shirt.... in our tags could/should we just do something like "outdoorsy shirt" then "travel vacation" in another so we can get the broad matching instead of repeating the word "shirt" over and over? Does that make sense??

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  4 місяці тому +1

      You absolutely can! This is exactly what I do. Exact match for whichever of those terms has the highest searches and lowest competition if possible. Then group the other two together so you can broad match them. 🙂

    Yes! I needed this. Thank you. Question: should my superstar keyword be in the begging of the title and how many super star keywords do you recommend? I am using all 140 characters to maximize my keywords and have broken my title up into three sections

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  4 місяці тому +4

      A superstar keyword should be the term that describes EXACTLY what your item is. The order of your title doesn't matter for search, however, you should attempt to make sure you lead with your superstar keyword since this term should ideally be visible right away to shoppers on a search page.
      Superstar keywords have no specific ideal quantity BUT since your superstar keyword should define what your "item is", it's unlikely that you'll have more one or two. Not every keyword needs to be a superstar keyword. 🙂

    • @abbyjphotos
      @abbyjphotos 4 місяці тому

    Can I add tags even if it's not related in my products? For example selling digital products wedding invitations, can I add tag for acrylic wedding invitation or passport invitations?

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  Місяць тому

      I wouldn't. You won't be targeting the types of customers who are actually looking for your products. If someone were to click your listing, only to realize it isn't an "acrylic wedding invitation", this could technically cause you to begin ranking lower in search. Instead of trying to target as many "types" of wedding invitations as possible, try focusing on the buyers themselves. If the digital invitations are decorated with flowers, could they appeal to those planning "cottagecore" weddings? What season are they getting married? What are the wedding colors? These are all significantly more relevant terms. Remember. "Relevancy" is key. If the keyword is not "relevant", you shouldn't use it.

    Starla, wat I always ask myself... 'exact matching', is it so that the keyword ideas that we see on Erank are indeed exact matching terms? Cause in the end, we don't really know what customers are looking for, do we? Isn't it always a guess? I think I could figure out two words, like 'digital download', but anything that's longer, is always hard to find for my listings, so I think I rely more on broad matching, but not sure if that's bringing me the right amount of traffic of course...

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  4 місяці тому

      I'm not quite sure what you mean. Those terms ARE what customers are searching for. You have to remember that customers tend to not be super specific in their searches. They search, refine, search again, refine, etc. 🙂 Feel free to let me know if I've missed something. I may just be tired.

    • @anjadedobbelaere9958

    Question - does changing the listing photos reset the SEO for Etsy so you start from scratch?

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  2 місяці тому

      Nothing "resets the listing's SEO". This isn't really the correct terminology for what takes place when a listings tags and titles are adjusted. But to answer your question, images have zero impact on the algorithm. 😊 The areas you won't want to touch are your tags and titles of listings that are already selling well. For new listings, you'll just want to make sure you're giving Etsy time to identify what you want to be known for. Editing a listing does not "reset" it. When adding new keywords, you're giving Etsy a list of new terms you want to be known for - and it can take Etsy a bit of time to assess these terms and decide, based on those terms, who they should show your listing to. 60 to 90 days is a good period of time to allow new keywords to settle because this average timeframe ensure that Etsy has time to assess your listing - AND as a seller, you have an appropriate amount of data collected after 60 to 90 days in order to decide if the terms you selected are working for your listing.

    Hi,how much time i should give to listing before i delete the listing? If i see is not get any sale..thanks

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  3 місяці тому

      There is no magic number.
      First, I would evaluate why the listing isn't selling. Are you getting views and no sales? Or no views and no sales? If you are getting views and no sales, it may something such as your photos or description. Look at competitors and see how yours compare. If you are getting no views as well, look at your SEO.
      Also, it takes time for a listing to gain momentum. Be sure to drive traffic to your shop through social media and not just depend on organic Etsy traffic. And this time of year is slow on Etsy for everyone!

    Sorry to ask this. But I started a digital download shop 4 months ago and got 42 sales. But I want to add pod products of my digital art because I thought it will bring more profits. I added 3 pod products and got 1 sale after 1 week . Now I am confused if I will hurt my seo in the long term if I have a hybrid shop. As most UA-camrs said you shouldn't combine digital and physical. Thank you for answering. ❤

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  4 місяці тому +6

      Digital and physical can absolutely be in the same shop. Instead of looking at the "type of item", think more about the "type of customer". If your target audience is the same for your digital and physical items, it would make sense for these items to be together. For example, if your target audience is "guitar players", it would make sense to have clothing for guitar players in a shop along side printable sheet music or even printable art because the target audience is the same.
      When it comes to your SEO, think more about the commonalities of your niche and the signals you're sending to Etsy, based on your items "all together". This is why having a defined niche is important, especially now, with Etsy being more saturated than ever. We have data to support that general shops simply do not perform the same as shops with defined niches.
      Digital products is not a niche... it's an industry.
      Physical products is not a niche... it's an industry.
      Shirts, mugs, and stickers are not niches.... they are all industries.
      So think about what your NICHE is or how you can move closer to forming one so that Etsy can gather clear clues about what you want your shop to be known for.
      You can learn more about this topic, as well as the data that supports several of my statements, in this video from a few months ago: ua-cam.com/video/5YkBRCDzkcY/v-deo.html

    • @StarlaMoore

      Unfortunately there is no way to know your quality score. This is a metric Etsy does not share. But it can be FELT. Have you ever sold and item, then soon afterwards, you make a sale for the exact same item? That's your quality score growing! 🙂

      Commas are more for creating more "readable" titles to help human shoppers understand what you're selling. They don't have much impact on the algorithm. The focus should be to make your titles make sense for readers when possible.

      Remember- keywords are just ONE small part of Etsys algorithm. There are 7 total contributors to Etsys algorithm (I cover them in the free SEO toolbox mentioned). What erank provides is data. It's not disputable because it's based on actual shopper behavior. But there are more factors than just SEO that contribute to success on Etsy. Not just the algorithm itself but also seasonality, your exact target customers and when they are spending, and even your photos. It's easy to point fingers at SEO because it tends to be the most confusing element of listing an item. But data is data. It's a story of how shoppers behave, not a magic button that creates sales. Sometimes it takes a bit of experimenting before you find the perfect combination of keywords, products, photos, pricing, etc. It takes time.

    Hi Starla! I have a question, I sell Laser Engrave Files on Etsy, (shop is 3 months old) I design these files, I focus mostly on wildlife designs and everything is Pacific Northwest Themes. (Bears, Elk, Deer, and other PNW animals and life) I am really struggling with Etsy SEO for these, each file is a PNG engrave file but each file is a different animal or event, I am confused on what my star keyword would be? would it be the subject? or engrave? I think it would be easier if it were a Blanket lol. I feel like if i put Bear PNG it would follow under everything bear art and not so much that it is an engrave file? Please help, im sure it is much easier then I see it. I am a Erank Pro subscriber and I use the tools but im lost. Thank you :)

      Be sure to read the instructions also listed along with the link, otherwise, you'll end up encountering issues. Our system isn't really designed for free trials so our "free trial" is a bit haphazardly put together right now. 😅 There are a few issues you could be encountering, which are listed with the directions I posted alongside the link. So make sure you're following those. If you've ever had a paid eRank account in the past, you'll need to sign up for the trial using a different email, as the trial only applies to new users. I hope this helps!

      Are you talking the exact same item duplicated or a different similar item? Either way, the answer is yes. However, if you are duplicating the exact same item, that is usually done for A/B testing, which means that there is something different you are trying with the second listing.

    What i don't understand about eRank is how they come up with this data to help with keywords on Etsy. There is no API for Etsy to understand what is happening within their search engine, or to get views information for every listing on the platform. You can only return 12,000 listings via the API which is nowhere near enough data to power such a tool. So it just leaves me a little skeptic about it all. Unless of course they have access to different API's than what Etsy make available to others.

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  Місяць тому +2

      It's not public. Just like any other data company, we purchase this data from a 3rd party source. Our data provider is truly the best, spanning over MILLIONS of panelists. This allows us to present the most accurate average possible. We also vet our data panelists extensively, ensuring our data is collected by ethical means.
      I like to compare it a bit to how TV ratings are collected from Nielson families. 🙂

    • @StarlaMoore

      Etsy specifically tells us in their ultimate guide to search that all keywords from your title should be repeated in your tags (but not everything in your tags needs to also be in your title). 🙂 Keyword consistency helps Etsy to identify what you want to be known for.
