I first saw this video a year or two ago. It was the first time I had ever heard her sing. From the moment she walked out I knew it would be something special. Her voice is a hug for the soul. She gives me goosbumps.
"My whole body is my instrument." Totally. As I watch her sing, every part of her is in the moment. Whew. Doug Wamble, you are one of the luckiest men in the world. What a team!
That's such a huge note at 5:24, gorgeous. I find there's something really cathartic about hearing a singer really hit that point of resonance and just let the note breathe without any vibrato.
Morgan James is such a soulful talented singer. She's amazing. I stumbled upon her one day on UA-cam and I have been following her since. I agree the arrangements are so interesting. Your analysis is perfect. You are so interesting to listen to. Thanks for sharing.
You nailed it when you said it was very James Bond-like. I could really see this as the intro song to a Bond movie, although I'm not quite sure "Dream On" is a good Bond title, lol.
Please do a reaction for the Postmodern Jukebox cover of "Creep", featuring the BRILLIANT Haley Reinhart. And, Scott Bradlee, the piano player, is the absolute genius behind the arrangements of PMJ covers.
The whole package was an extraordinary journey to me ! The musicians ...wonderful and gave to it a special Jazz sound , then Morgan steps in and she starts performing and i was crying silently not to lose a moment from the "magic" that took place before my eyes . This lady sounds like an angel , she looks like a DIVA and all i can say about this song is that i never thought anyone could make it better than Aerosmith did but i was wrong ! All of them did quality job here and of course Morgan James took it to the next level !!!! experienced , classy , absolutely stanning and her emotions were spot on , it doesn't get better than this . Thank you Beth for teaching me something i didn't know !!!! Have a nice day !
Best reaction to Ms James I've seen. It's terrific that you did your research on her background. Nobody sings like that without some serious, serious training. Thanks.
Hi Beth, I saw Morgan at a sold out show in a small club (500 people?) and she was incredible. I must say I agree that it was one of the best show I've seen. Thanks for featuring her.
Ok, right off. Aerosmith are one of my absolute favorite bands. And this song is one of my favorite songs of theirs. I went into this with a lot of trepidation. But OMG! This was AMAZING! Her power, her souly jazzy delivery is just transcendent! Thank you for introducing her to me!
When I first heard this cover, I couldn't help but hear, Steven Tyler's voice in my head. I mean, come on, Steve and this song are an icon. I had to listen to it twice more before I could not hear Steven and then was able to fully appreciate Morgan's version. Now I absolutely love it! Frisson every time.
Morgan and many others from PMJ are perfect examples of how screwed up the music industry is. How can such talented people not be more famous as a Taylor Swift or Miley Cyrus. Sad
I had never heard of Morgan until I watched your 'Good Job' Podcast ... I then went on to watch some of her live club shows on UA-cam ... she is AMAZING! That's what I love about your channel... stumbling onto awesome artists completely by accident, that I know I will follow for a LONG time. Thanks a ton Beth! :)
Live this reaction. Morgan James won my ear with one single note; the first phrase she sings in All About The Base. I knew by that one that I was hearing an amazing talent. Everything I have heard since only reinforces that. The way she sings, the way she places notes and tunes them reminds me of the jazz greats from the 30s. The early Ella Fitzgerald recordings have that same vibrancy and life plus the incredible, other worldly ability to tune a chord to perfection.
WOW, you're doing Morgan James!!! That's awesome. I've seen her a couple of times here in DC and the lady is just amazing. She has some very interesting cover albums... and some impressive originals. New album coming soon, too!!! Thanks, Beth!
I actually requested it on the last PMJ video too so very happy this showed up and that you've seen her live. Had tickets to Stockholm but had to cancel last minute unfortunately. Absolutely love her!
BTW I saw her with Post Modern Jukebox. She did a performance of "Take me to church". Just her in a beautiful white gown and a spot light on her. Probably the closest thing to a religious experience I'll ever get. So powerful, it had my eyes welling up with tears.
Oh, I love Morgan James, I've seen her live in a small club in Munich and she was truly fantastic. Her feedback with the audience is as well. Great that you're reacting to her! Morgan's high notes in All about that Bass (ironically) were what drew me into PMJ in the first place. My favourite PMJ song is Maps, performed by Morgan. The belting she does is so great and she absolutely draws me in with her facial expressions. She is and stays my favourite PMJ vocalist and that's a heavily contested position, because they have so many great vocalists. Another one I like very much is Sara Niemitz, who always seems to have the most fun on stage and in videos and that's so very contagious. And, of course, the fabulous Haley Reinhart and Robyn Adele Anderson. I must've been to 5 PMJ shows and except for Von Smith all of the vocalists were great. Von Smith surely is skilled but I find his way of singing highly annoying. Among the male vocalists I've enjoyed Puddles and LeVance Colley are my favorites
@@BethRoars Uh, are you allowed to say who your friend is? ;) And yes, Haley is great, I could listen to her singing Creep all day. Or her singing Mad World together with Puddles. And well, All about that Bass gives us both Morgan and Haley - as well as Ariana Savalas, who is Telly Savalas' daughter
@@BethRoars Thank you, I've actually never seen her at one of the live shows, but I'll certainly keep the name in mind and my eyes and ears open the next time I go to a PMJ show

The first time I listened to this...I love this song,. Always have. But the first hearing of this version was like experiencing one's first kiss a second time. Pure magic and perfection, in the scoring, soul, emotion, arranging & performance.
Strange that seeing Morgan James at the little gig in London was the best gig you've ever been to. I've been lucky enough to see her live 3 times: once in a small venue, once with PMJ, and once with a full philharmonic orchestral backing. The PMJ was special and the small venue was fantastic, but having her take center stage to sing James Bond themes with an orchestra was sort of once-in-a-lifetime.
@@BethRoars The small gig was good. You could tell that the performance Morgan was putting out was top-notch, but there were technical issues. The stage monitors were messed up, she spent a solid 10 minutes, during her performance, trying to subtly get the attention of whoever was running sound before finally just unplugging them and crushing it on pure talent. Regardless, well worth the cost of admission. And it netted me a signed double vinyl of her white album lol.
