Kasey Chambers changes a lot of the emotional context for Rage to fear and does a wonderful job. Gold standard probably doesn't change the emotions of the song in general. Thanks for sharing that I didn't know about it until I read your post.

I perforated an ear drum a few months back, still experiencing some pain and hearing issuses, but I put both ear buds in just to get the full benefit of her voice with this song!!
I finally understood what this song is about. The original sounds epic but it was about the experience of the delivery than the meaning of the song. This combines a great delivery while being able to understand the song

Ladies and gentlemen: we have just been presented with a master class in how to cover a classic rock song. There have been many covers of "Dream On", but nothing like this. Magnificent!
BadassRandomness It's hard to speak generally about it, because anyone has to work hard at cultivating that high register. But in my experience as a female vocalist and in learning from and teaching male vocalists, I find that men typically have a little bit of a clearer and healthier access to that which we call "falsetto" than us women have with going into a high whistle voice and making it have sufficient power and control. When we do with our voices the same mechanical thing that men do for falsetto, it just comes out as an airy weird cheer-whoop thing that is extremely hard to train for vocal control, and most women simply develop a different register to get high and "belt" those super high scream-like notes instead. It's not exactly harder or easier for anyone, basically, just different for each and each gender's version of hitting those high wails comes out differently and has different implications for fatiguing their voice.
@@AA-gi7ot You must be tone deaf, if Billie sounds crappy to you, no wonder you liked this video as you can only appreciate when the singer is screaming, not singing.

The cello solo was totally awesome - really fresh and original, thumbs up! It is very difficult to shine behind Morgan James - she is so dominant and brilliant with her voice and drop dead gorgeous on top of that, that attention is completely focused on her, but the band is absolutely great and meshes together so well.
I didn't believe... no. Let me start again. I thought I knew, I was sure, I kind of built my life on the fact that nobody could do this better than Aerosmith. This was THE UNCOVERABLE SONG! And now this....
In 1973, Aerosmith wrote and perfomed a cover of this song. It was an impressive feit, because Morgan James had not yet performed the original version of the song.
PMJ has been a buffet of great talent, but Morgan James truly takes the cake. How on earth do her videos not have tens of millions of views? Is it because she covers songs that are good, but not necessarily recent or particularly popular?
I am very impressed with Morgan, but HALEY Reinhart is phenomenal!! you should see their duet of the Beatles "Dear Prudence" it is blissful!! and makes it quite obvious that they are friends and collaborators not rivals. Nobody, NOBODY blows HALEY out of the water.
Indeed. But all of that also speaks to the writing itself. It’s simply a great song. And from her, the meaning and story that the the lyrics tell comes screaming through. 👍🏻👍🏻
Morgan James is, in my humble opinion, the best female vocalist of the many very good ones featured on PMJ videos. Please feature her great singing more often.
Totally Agree... Haley has a wonderful voice and really different from Morgan's but I personally prefer Morgan voice, not because Morgan is better but I want a voice to be pawerfull as her
I cooked my steak, did my laundry, drove to work, got in an accident on my way home, had to stay at the hospital for like a week, came back home, and she's *still* in the middle of a high note.
While I really really like this the "Take Me to Church" cover she did with Scott Bradlee is amazing. I heard her do it live a year ago and she blew the doors off the place. People were screaming and in tears by the time it was over.
I can't listen to this song without imagining the entire building coming down around her from just the sheer power of that high note. It's apocalypsically beautiful.
One of the "musical moments" in this beautiful presentation is when the cello is played like a jazz guitar for a short time. A very talented musical group supporting a very talented vocalist.
This is beyond excellent. Something that really impress me of her and other performance from Haley Reinhart, Hannah Gill and others is how they sing with theirs voices, bodies and clearly their souls. Complete artists 1000% percent.
This is one of most amazing performances I have ever heard! Ever since it was released here I come back to it once or twice every few months and listen in awe every time.
Yeah, one of the greatest performances of all time for me, along with: Janis - ball and chain @ woodstock, Freddie king - have you ever loved a woman @ sugarbowl Imelda May and Jeff Beck - Walking on the Sand @ Honors Les Paul Eric Clapton - Old Love @ Crossroad Centre 1999 POWERFUL GOOSEBUMPS!!
I haven't heard this kind of emotion in a voice in decades. She is in the class of Sarah Vaughan, Nina Simone, etc. The youth of today have not been exposed to such voice given the electronics to alter the pure emotion of a lyric.
I found this video last night and already watched it 9 times and I'm not tired of it yet. I really don't want to listen to anything else for the rest of the month. HOLY HELL woman, you can sing. I'm so amazed by this cover that I want to put on a gigantic stereo so everyone else listen to it too. They need to know what they're missing out!
This has been on every playlist I have since it's launch, and still after 8 years and counting I still amazed how she can touch the soul of anyone who listens. Morgan James, you're an underrated star. God bless you.
If I had never heard Aerosmith's version and only heard this, I think my perspective would be completely changed. Just the feeling and soul she puts into singing this is phenomenal.
As a singer and a rock listener since forever you have my aboslute respect. This breath control the timbre the accentuation the voice placement changes, the interpretation. Just respect.
Bitch what part of "it's an expression" and "fuck off" didn't you understand? some people liked that comment because they did understand what i meant and it's just my way of giving a sincere compliment, move the fuck on.
Powerful stuff. Her voice could blister the paint right off of a battleship. I was never much of an Aerosmith fan, so this slowed down and more dramatic version is the definitive "Dream On" for me. It packs a far bigger emotional wallop than the original.
@jmaedl027 jmaedl Wow! I didn't know I could like her more... But you know your comment is really stupid, don't you? Unless you think that all the huge stars that condemn Trump are secret admirers...
I'm atheist and I desapprove your message. All this is human-made, no Gods here. You can adore something without giving credit to some extranatural hypothetical force. The musicians and singer are amazing, they deserve all the credit.
@@jbs.1666 The etymology of the word "god" reveals it to be a verb meaning " to make a sacrifice " an act... much like this music. Not the noun, and not human sacrifice.
There are more important traits in a person, than how good they sing. Although we probably all admire this good singer... no reason to feel inferior. Life is no singing competition.
Morgan James really is showing the power and control she has in her voice. Wow, girl got pipes! Give a talented vocalist a talented group of musicians behind her and watch the magic they create. Oh, this version is so smoking hot!
One of my favorite songs of all time in this type of genre...wow...amazing. I never thought there would be version to compete with the original but this would be. They standalone in their own way & that's my opinion.
-- "They standalone in their own way " I very much agree. While I admit the song was always a great piece of songwriting, I never liked Aerosmith at the time, and their performance was soured for me. But this version is pure mastery and passion, soul shaking art of the highest order, and it does something with the song that does stand fully on its own fresh merits. Many of these Post Modern Jukebox performances are fresh re-births of songs that well deserve unique new passion, and in these performances they are reborn fully as new and powerful masterpieces, not just covers. I don't feel like they are leaning on the original artists, whether we loved the original performances or not, and even though they do borrow a little from the original styles here and there. These are new works, and they stand at the forefront of music.
During the "dream on" section, I just found myself laughing at how mindblowing Morgan's voice is. Absolutely incredible, and a great arrangement of a classic to boot.
I had to listen to this epic ten times in a row to fully feel the song. It's just so much soul and emotion. She sings with her voice, body and soul. It's incredible.
MY GOD!! Rarely do you see them go so passionately on a cover bit they did it and they nailed it. They transformed the song and made it better, BRAVO 🎉 and a standing ovation
It is her elocution. You can understand every word. I have been listening to this song for over 40 years and this is the first time I could make out all of the words. The lyrics are really good when you can understand them. Tyler sounds like he is saying "Sing women" rather than "sing with me". He just mangles half of the lyrics. James' elocution is so good that I have to think she had some kind of opera training. It makes a huge difference. She hits every note and every syllable perfectly and the meaning of the words add to the song. She sings the hell out of this song. She is just fantastic.
@@johnkluge3421 And he also screams the high parts as opposed to singing them as Morgan does. She has been opera trained...at Julliard if I'm not mistaken.
@@johnkluge3421 I agree with your sentiment, but the word you're looking for is "Diction", the efficiency and clarity by which words are delivered. Elocution is about the skill and control by which those words are delivered. In singing we talk about having good diction, never have I heard elocution spoken of...save that for speech giving and debate team.
@@andreaschmall5560 Tyler didn't scream the high parts, he used falsetto. The difference is that Morgan stays in her chest voice for the majority of the song and pushes up into her head voice for the high note, but never shifts into falsetto. Results = much stronger delivery...oh, and goosebumps.

Brain-dead UA-cam trolls, mostly. Plus more than a few Aerosmith dead-enders, who mindlessly hate any and all covers (and refuse to listen to them.)
The queen casually walked in and belted out a masterpiece 💯
Seriously, I didn't think anybody could ever top Aerosmith on this song, but, blown away.
Dio did it.
Indeed. But all of that also speaks to the writing itself. It’s simply a great song. And from her, the meaning and story that the the lyrics tell comes screaming through. 👍🏻👍🏻
Her voice tears my heart.
true!
simply amazing this Lady
1 million like's
What a time we live in. This level of performance used to be available to kings and queens... not the paupers.
LOL calm down
very true! I wish it wouldn't be taken for granted
LMAO
Postmodern Jukebox is where one understands the lyrics and the depth of the same too , what a powerful cover !
Morgan James is, in my humble opinion, the best female vocalist of the many very good ones featured on PMJ videos. Please feature her great singing more often.
greg sco
Morgan and Haley are for sure the two best.
Constantly been lookin over the other videos and the most recent ones and yep...still Haley and Morgan with the best pipes
Totally Agree... Haley has a wonderful voice and really different from Morgan's but I personally prefer Morgan voice, not because Morgan is better but I want a voice to be pawerfull as her
Don't you know Haley Reinhart?
her voice is HUGE
I cooked my steak, did my laundry, drove to work, got in an accident on my way home, had to stay at the hospital for like a week, came back home, and she's *still* in the middle of a high note.
LOL :)
Quality comment
You made steak for breakfast?
I sang this comment on bass while the song was playing.
@@ninjaaron
Steak and eggs, my dude. 👍😋
*My asthma could never.*
I also have asthma, and I agree with you.
🤣🤣
I disagree :₽ I also have asthma
mine neither
Hahahahahaha take my like!
When a song is well written, the cover can be this good
She could make any song sound good...and she has.
Impressive. Best version Morgan has done in and out PMJ. Her voice shows at its best.
maps is very good.
But nothing compares to this. Of course is up to taste, but this gave me chills like any other.
While I really really like this the "Take Me to Church" cover she did with Scott Bradlee is amazing. I heard her do it live a year ago and she blew the doors off the place. People were screaming and in tears by the time it was over.
Eric Cable OMG lucky you. I wish I could see her live.
agreed, can hear maps like everyday
I can't listen to this song without imagining the entire building coming down around her from just the sheer power of that high note. It's apocalypsically beautiful.
One of the "musical moments" in this beautiful presentation is when the cello is played like a jazz guitar for a short time. A very talented musical group supporting a very talented vocalist.
Holy crap! That's it, nothing more to say. I'm just sitting here, open-mouthed and ready to watch again.
I know what you mean...same.
Me too Stephen, me too.
me too! I absolutely LOVE this version.
@@robins5248 Me too! And her "Sledgehammer" song, too!
Yeah, one of the greatest performances of all time for me, along with:
Janis - ball and chain @ woodstock,
Freddie king - have you ever loved a woman @ sugarbowl
Imelda May and Jeff Beck - Walking on the Sand @ Honors Les Paul
Eric Clapton - Old Love @ Crossroad Centre 1999
POWERFUL GOOSEBUMPS!!
I've lost count of how many times I've watched this, but DAAAAAMN, it gives me goosebumps more than once every goddamn time.
Everytime i listen to this I HAVE to share it with some one, and I do it proudly hahahahahaha
That's called Frisson - a brief moment of emotional excitement : shudder, thrill. It happens a lot when listening to Morgan.
I'm sure a million of the plays are mine....
Goosebumps is a plural.
This mafia version sucks!
At this point can we just all agree that this is the greatest American rock and roll song of all time.
Morgan James is owning it as soon as she walks in. She is such an incredibly talented and beautiful woman.
Musicians are 10/10. But the voice! The voice is from heavens. So powerful, so clean, so much energy!
Amazing Priscila!
words of gold Priscilla! 👍👏❤️
2:24 - 2:32 4:00 - 4:10 She doesn´t need oxygen to live.
I don't think enough credit is given to the ones who MAKE the music so she can sing.. GREAT JOB to the strings, piano and drums!
loved the piano!
enterprise59 e
This is a truly wonderful arrangement, for an exceptional voice.
So true. All the musicians are highly talented, and the arrangement is brilliant
Scott Bradley's arrangements are amazing, and he works with the best vocalists he can find.
As a singer and a rock listener since forever you have my aboslute respect. This breath control the timbre the accentuation the voice placement changes, the interpretation. Just respect.
How can this music not be in the top5 of the channel??? Such a powerful performance!
You never see that power coming from such a tiny human, i love it! :)
Xstina was "tiny" once upon a time. Ariana is small, too...
I'm complimenting this tiny human in particular, smartass.
+Ciclopea2 Lol
Omg it's a fuckin expression included in a compliment, am i being corrected over a freakin compliment? LOL GTFO
Bitch what part of "it's an expression" and "fuck off" didn't you understand? some people liked that comment because they did understand what i meant and it's just my way of giving a sincere compliment, move the fuck on.
Can you imagine her doing "Great Gig In The Sky?" Souls would burst into flame.
That would be lovely.
I seriously have chills just thinking about that! I am sitting here stunned by the mere idea....
I would literally cry
Hell yeah
Gimme Shelter by the Stones or a personal favorite Light My Fire by the Doors
Powerful stuff. Her voice could blister the paint right off of a battleship. I was never much of an Aerosmith fan, so this slowed down and more dramatic version is the definitive "Dream On" for me. It packs a far bigger emotional wallop than the original.
Every time I listen to Morgan James I ask myself "Why is she not a bigger star?" And I don't have a good answer...
@jmaedl027 jmaedl
She is? How so?
@jmaedl027 jmaedl ~ You should tell that to Trump. Irony, ain't it a bitch?
@jmaedl027 jmaedl
Except if you hate haters. That's the one exception.
@jmaedl027 jmaedl Wow! I didn't know I could like her more... But you know your comment is really stupid, don't you? Unless you think that all the huge stars that condemn Trump are secret admirers...
More than likely because she won't
audition on the casting couch.
She gave taking it to a whole other level another meaning. Like damn girl, that voice is soo powerful!
You could also say: She took 'taking it to another level' to another level.
Best performance of Morgan, she nailed it completely. Only "amazing" can describe what I've just seen and listened 💜
Love all her performances. Really beautiful voice and she's just amazing. Woman for which I could kill someone...
PMJB cover of Maps with Morgan James is best
+xavierxrc All are fantastic
It's amaaaaaaazing ♫
Wow. This woman has a HUGE VOICE ❤❤❤
This is a religious experience. It puts me on my knees and thank the Lord for Morgan James and PMJ.
I'm atheist and I desapprove your message. All this is human-made, no Gods here. You can adore something without giving credit to some extranatural hypothetical force. The musicians and singer are amazing, they deserve all the credit.
Come on, who is the asshole ? The guy that steals the credit of human-made music to give it to his god, or the other guy that points it ?
THAT I can understand and agree.
preach!
@@jbs.1666 The etymology of the word "god" reveals it to be a verb meaning " to make a sacrifice " an act... much like this music. Not the noun, and not human sacrifice.
This, kids, is perfection on the highest possible level
This and their cover of Creep
@@Not_An_EV try Royals too, he's unbelievably talented
And she is classically trained in opera!! She went to julliard at 17! In case you wanted to feel more inferior lol I know I do
...🤦♂️
Ahhhh the opera training explains her impeccable technique ( but you have the to the talent training only sharpens it)
There are more important traits in a person, than how good they sing. Although we probably all admire this good singer... no reason to feel inferior. Life is no singing competition.
I have trouble playing the radio.
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!! Priceless comment!
Just, wow. What a cover. Morgan's taking my breath away. Kudo's, Morgan. Nothing but respect.
Dear God! If that doesn't move your soul, nothing will. 🔥🔥🔥
Now I think she should do a Bond theme or get hired as a Bond girl to do a song.
Oooh... you know my name by Chris Cornell with that voice? Yes please.
+
-- "They standalone in their own way "
I very much agree.
One of the best female vocalists I've heard with a great band (piano player to boot!)....🎆
During the "dream on" section, I just found myself laughing at how mindblowing Morgan's voice is. Absolutely incredible, and a great arrangement of a classic to boot.
I had a tear in my eye. Absolutely amazing
You think it's at the level!
(and then it goes up a level).
(AND THEN IT GOES UP A LEVEL!) ✨
Real music by a real talent. Saw her live in Traverse City, Michigan. She knocked it out of the park.
I bet.
Morgan James surpassed Aerosmith. Her range, control, feeling and artistic interpretation are utterly stunning! Bravo!!!
But Aerosmith wrote this masterpiece. At least the original version. Before Mr. Bradley improved on it, as he always does.
A super hard song to sing ... done beautifully.
@Joe Devola I think we all do sing "flawlessly" in the shower. ;P
@Joe Devola As long as your shower is not golden, unless you’re into that sort of thing.
cant be that hard The Mission did a cover of it so did Amy McDonald
Every time I look in the mirror
All these lines on my face getting clearer
The past is gone
It went by, like dusk to dawn
Isn't that the way
Everybody's got their dues to pay
Yeah I know nobody knows
Where it comes or where it goes
I know it's everybody sin
You got to lose to know how to win
Half my life's in books, written pages
Lived and learned from fools
And from sages
You know it's true, oh
All these feelings come down to you
Sing with me, sing for the years
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears
Sing with me, just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away
Sing with me, sing for the years
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears
Sing with me, just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away
Dream on (x3)
Dream until your dream comes true
Dream on (x3)
Dream until your dream comes true
Dream on (x6)
Dream
Sing with me, sing for the years
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears
Sing with me, if just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away
This knocked something loose and I cried. It was existential and felt so good. Thank you
Most powerful performance by Morgan James. Gives me goosebumps everytime I'm listening to the song, and it's been a lot of times.
She sings it like it's the last song she will ever sing, it's so powerful

Awesome and heartfelt!!!
If someone told me they heard an awesome version of Aerosmith''s "Dream On" played by a string quartet, I'd be very skeptical--and curious.
Does it to me every time I listen.
Oh. My. God. Amazing!
