I remember Revenge Of The Cybermen for a specific reason, it was April and I had left my home on the Isle of Skye and moved into a tiny flat in Glasgow close to Glasgow University which I was to attend in May. The reason it sticks in my mind is the flat had a 14" black and white TV and when I switched it on Revenge Of The Cybermen was just starting. Fast-forward to April 1993 I was in a house I was renting and had just got the news I had a job offer to work in London which meant I would be leaving Glasgow which by now I regarded as my home city. I remember I switched on the satellite box and by chance, and quite eerily, Revenge Of The Cybermen had just started and was being shown on the UK Gold channel almost 18 years to the day when I first arrived in Glasgow.
One thing that drove me crazy at the time was the Vogan weapons. Cyberman weakness is gold your planet has lots of gold yet your weapons don't project gold which you have lots of.
I wish we got more stories about the key events of the actual Cyber Wars instead of just sticking to the prelude to or aftermath of them in the main show.
I've always thought adding personality to the cybermen makes them scarier. It's not just enslaved the brain and body to the cause of the cyber-race but, where notable candidates are encountered, they enslaved the personality and attitude, perhaps even a shred of emotion, where they can make use of it. It means a, the Cybermen have a mouthpiece instead of a faceless random drone, b, it gives them a leader who can think for itself in a tight spot rather than sit around waiting for orders from the planner or controller and c, it's a reminder that it isn't just a walking, talking automaton. There is a living element to the creature. It was a human once and under the metalwork and pipes there is still an element of that. It's scary enough to take your body but you have some gumption, intelligence and charisma that the Cybermen can make use of they'll twist it to their own purpose too. If you become a random Cyberman and you don't realise what has happened to you or remember who you were, that is terrible. But if you're reminded by your voice, mannerisms and thought process etc of who you were, that must be a living nightmare you can't escape because of what you've become and being hardwired to survive. I think it is the most terrifying thing I can imagine.
“Knocking the snot out of each other” 🤣 It wasn’t til now that I realised that Kellman and Lytton are pretty much the same character. And yes, Cyber stories went down the pan after the 60s.
David Banks who played the Cyber leader wrote a whole book about the Cybermen and said that the Cybermen had split off after my dad was destroyed so maybe some of them had emotions still While others did not
My head-canon for the 'Total machine creatures' is the same as I use for explaining away the description of the Daleks as robots in Destiny of the Daleks - the organic component is so overwhelmed by the computer guidance that the creatures may as well be machines or robots. Also - did anyone else spot Toberman from Tomb of the Cybermen in 'Live and let die' (and not just the hairbrush prop)?
REVENGE, used to be a fave. I’ve seen it so many times now, I get sick of even hearing about it. Even though I enjoyed this video. I do like these Cyber-nomads. A great redesign. They look tougher than the INVASION models - which I thought were a little too delicate-looking, with the thin rods running along the arms and legs. My favourite is still the 1982 EARTHSHOCK models. Only have FOUR issues with them: 1) They’re too skinny for my liking. 2) The voices weren’t mechanical enough. The Cybermen from THE FIVE DOCTORS sounded the best for me. 3) Some flashing / blinking lights in the chest unit would’ve been nice. It would’ve added more interest to their many scenes in the gloomy cargo hold of the freighter. 4) The ski boots look rubbish. ATTACK OF THE CYBERMEN is my favourite Cybermen serial. It’s all about the Cybermen - and introduces the full-breasted Cryons.
I do prefer the original script of this Cyberstory titled Return of the Cybermen, and it is on audio CD from Big Finish and I have got the CD of the original script . I had read the original script in magazine form from DWB, and also in the Dr Who book the scripts 1974/75 and the original script is billions of times better than the broadcast version and also in the original script the planet of gold is featured and it has no name and also it is populated by human miners and also the planet of gold plays a smaller role in the original script only appearing in episode 3 and also the original script has individual episode titles like the very early black and white Dr Who serials did up to the Gunfighters.
@@TheChosenChimp I do say Gerry Davis original script having the Cybermen take over, space station Nerva in an attempt to destroy the nearby planet of gold which was originally nameless and populated by human miners instead of alien Vogans. I thought in the original script the planet of gold only appearing in one episode which is episode 3 the Gold Miners means the planet of gold has a much smaller role than in the finished story but nonetheless it is fun and I have the cd of the original script Return of the Cybermen and I have listened to it several times and in comparison with the finished programme it IMO is billions of times better and better made in billions of ways . I also think the idea of a space casino was daft and it was a blessing it was scrapped completely, I also say the location for the planet Voga, at Wookey Hole was awesome, in billions of ways and I have visited Wookey Hole and I liked it . I do say had the budget not got bigger, then this story would have been studio bound, as intended and also when Bob Holmes rewrote the script he named the planet of gold first Alanthea, then Vegan and finally Voga and so also the human miners were replaced with aliens instead .

We have a lot of oil, we don’t use flamethrowers unless we know we need them
We have lots of lava. We don’t make lava guns.
I wish we got more stories about the key events of the actual Cyber Wars instead of just sticking to the prelude to or aftermath of them in the main show.
The Five Doctors...that time the Cybermen were defeated by a Power Ranger...

Glitter gun always gets a chuckle out of me.
Hands down my favourite cyberman story.
“Knocking the snot out of each other” 🤣

I like the explanation in the last of the cyberman that with the super controller gone the cyberman were directionless and a bit emotional
David Banks who played the Cyber leader wrote a whole book about the Cybermen and said that the Cybermen had split off after my dad was destroyed so maybe some of them had emotions still While others did not
Great one Chimp. Well worth it
Your best one yet. The level of deep cuts… but fabulous tongue? I’m still laughing!
Growing up on the 70s doctor Who was Sci Fiction minus Trek reruns. Late night Channel 11.

Revenge of the Cybermen is one of my favourite Classic Who stories.
Another great video thanks😍
YESSSS MY REVENGE HAS COME TO PASS!
Could the 1980's Cybermen stories be improved just through re-dubbing their lines?
Wait - he’s a Trekkie too !! I want more Trek!
Do reviews on bigfinish cybermen stories.

I would like to see a video about the cybermen's appearances in TV Comic.
CYBER WARS!!!!
Did yt delete his islous episode?
You use lots of tautologies :p
That's a fair point. I'll minimise the habit................and do less of it.😉
@@TheChosenChimp =D

This Cyberstory was terrible in billions of ways, and it should have been billions of times better than it was.
