I need to say that you and your wife are such a true inspiration. The way you do things for your animals and how you take care of your farm and yourselves is the only way to do things. Mr Pete with your background as an architect and the words of wisdom and your jokes (love them) makes Just a Few Acres Farm a true series filled with truth, compassion and the real life of a small successful farm. You and your wife followed by your children are an example for all of us to follow. For the few out there that say this or that about how you should or should not do certain things they should keep it to themselves. We watch you everyday if we can and it helps us also to continue on our journey. Thank you so much for bringing us on your journey Mr Pete. Best regards to Mrs Hilary and your beautiful children.
He’d make a great caretaker of the redwood forest in California. The old guy is 90+ who’s been doing it, and I think Pete meets all the qualifications.
I love all the tractor extensions and gadgets you renovate and use. Here is where the “boys and their toys” urge really triumphs. Who needs an overpriced sports car, but THESE mechanical marvels make your farm life possible. And they are far cooler than any sports car.
You were correct Pete, this video did have a little something for everyone. Chickens, cows. pigs, cat, (old Ezera) out Tom cattin again! and like you I love to listen to a Sickle bar mower. with tractor or with horses. both are soothing to me. I keep waiting when you are doing fence line to "miss the swing" and hit and knock over a fence post, but you have not done that yet. (not that you've shown us anyway) and of course the MD parts update and new machine shop try. Hope the new guy does what you expect of a good machinist to do.A good shop will not want for work, used to be one locally and they were a pair of brothers. up in age but their work was beyond reproach. and the whole area wen to them and I talked to hundres of guys who did nothing but praise them so lets hope this is the case with your new guy. good luck there and thanks for another great video. I have known Dave Richards for several years now, he has done work for 2 of my brothers and it has been excellent. His back shop is steam powered with line shafting running almost everything.
Pete, For a gas container vent hole I drill a 3/8 hole and insert a complete tire valve stem then remove the schrader valve. Un-screwing the valve cap allows air to replace the fuel as it exits.
Hi Pete and Hillary this is Tom and Ronda from Goshen Indiana. We both grew up on farms. Tom on a dairy farm and I we had cattle chickens and crops. I have 6 sisters and 3 brothers. We butchered chickens and took them to South Bend farmers market every Saturday. For over 25 yrs. I had John Deere and Tom had that red tractor. We both enjoy your videos. I enjoy your 2 bulls and how you say Come on Cows. They follow you with no problem. And your boss Cow Patti. Well guess I wrote enough. You guys take care.
Pete, your channel is great! I love it and always look for a new one. And your Dear wife Hillary is wonderful also with her laid back quiet manner. With all her behind the scene work, home making, raising the children, and helping with all the chores I think she is pretty special!
I agree the new gas cans are a pain. I modified my cans using a semi-truck (nut screws down on the value core)value core and it works great. I think they are about $2 on Amazon. Drill a hole in the can (turn can upside down and the material will not fall in the can). Use a piece of wire with a hook on the end to feed the valve core thru the gas can opening and pull it up into the hole that you drilled. Place the nut on the top side of the valve core. Remove the valve stem and use the value cap to seal the stem when not in use. It took less than 5 minutes to make the modifications.
I just got my catheter out this morning after a bladder tumer was removed by my urologist . I hope I have the flow of your hose by the end of the day.lol
Pete, I really enjoy your You-tube postings. Many years ago my father raised angus cattle as a hobby farm. We only had about 25 acres of irrigated pasture in northern California. I did a lot of the feeding, kept the water troughs full and Irrigated the pastures. We didn’t have much money to invest and our tractor was a “Doodlebug” made from a 31 Ford AA truck. We mowed with a sickle bar mower that was originally horse drawn. Our rake was a horse drawn dump rake. I see how you enjoy your cattle grazing. I felt the same way. Happy cattle and frolicking calves are enjoyable to watch and listen to. Due to my mothers health we were forced to sell the livestock and the farm. It was a sad day when the cattle were sold, The empty pastures and barn seemed so sad and forlorn. I enjoy your tractor restoring video also. I spent mot of my life selling auto parts for a NAPA store. The filters you use as well as things like hi-tac and lubriplate take me back to those days. One of my jobs was going to the local farms and orchards to take inventory of the tractors so we could be sure to have filters, belts and whatever they needed on hand. Thanks a bunch. I enjoy your attitude most of all.

Your lovely wife is a great chicken farmer she's a really good at at that probably a lot of other things to do but she's good at dealing dealing with the chickens I love your videos so down to earth so country fried
We had 220 acres of corn, oats, alfalfa and pasture. Dad mowed all of the hay with a sickle bar. This was 60s to early 80s. He would be amazed at the equipment that flies down the road these days. All of our equipment worked the land in 10' wide paths or less. We thought we were pretty fancy when we got a kicker baler! Just found your channel. 👍 Nice video!

Another great vid Pete. I even paused it to look briefly at David's Channel. it is indeed interesting. Then I realized I'm not a gearhead and ran back to your channel. Thanks again!
Wow, you really have a lot going on this year. That's awesome! I miss the sounds and smells of a farm. Some don't appreciate it! That bedding is a great idea. Allows for drainage as well. Too bad you don't have a roller to pack it down some to help prevent erosion from use and the weather. 55 gallon drums work pretty well for that and are easy to make!
Glad to see that you took the head from the MD a little further apart. You really are saving yourself by having another shop go through it and not chancing another dropped valve. I love your channel Pete and we need more people like you in this world! Excellent job!
I love those old sickle mowers. We used one behind our old H for years cutting stuff like alfalfa and clover. They are kinda hard to find in decent shape anymore.

We're happy at our end. Anxious to see the MD when it's running, again.
Pete, love the sound of the "H" at work, sorry the "MD" wasn't done right at that shop. good luck as you rebuild. I sure hope the "love for your farm", shown by yourself, Hillarie, and kids is passed on through your channel to a lot of the up and coming young farmers throughout the nation.
I was happy with the video Pete. Coming from all the way over the pond in Evesham in England 🏴. I always look forward to seeing your videos when I get home from work. Thanks mate keep up the good work and tell patty to stop having a go at you 😂
Evening Daniel....I'm from the North Norfolk coast UK 🇬🇧
it has been bone dry in coastal NC also, finally got some rain last night, hopefully it head north to you!
Nice video! Love the morning fog!
It’s 1 thing when a part fails due to poor quality but when parts fail because of trusted work done by a specialist shop thats another thing. Sorry you had to experience this Pete but hopefully, Richard can come through and correct the head so you can get the MD back in operation. Cheers from BC🇨🇦Here’s hoping you folks get some rain soon.
