This song always makes me cry. The Classics IV mostly stayed with softer rock in the 60'. The lead singer was Dennis Yost, who had an amazing voice. In the 70's this band evolved into the Atlanta Rhythm Section, who you reacted to yesterday. Both bands did the song "Spooky," and both versions sound very similar.
This is in my top 10. We love what we grew up with. I met Dennis when I was in my 20s in the early 80s and working at a Radio Shack in Doraville. He came in to buy a mic. Super normal and nice. What a talent! All good wishes, Dennis!
This song is so perfectly written! I am so lucky to still be able to play this song with my old friend who is a fantastic sax player - who also was offered a gig playing with the Jackson Five!
Tremendous band . I loved this late 60s style of song you can't beat it. I loved their track 'Stormy' another great tune. Reminds me of hearing this as a kid on Sunday morning radio shows.
Song makes me melancholy remembering my 70s NYC childhood. In the 70s you were still connected to the 60s via TV and radio programs. So it's like you were a part of it.
Spooky is my fave from them-puts you right in that October mood. I also found it interesting in the song Traces that they use the Spooky riff throughout the song-same with their other hit Stormy-I guess to remind people of their former hits. Members of this group would go on to form the Atlanta Rhythm Section who put out their own version of Spooky which also became a big hit.
Great choice Michael. I love the Classics IV. Dennis Yost is one of my favorite singers of all time. Spooky, Stormy, Change of Heart, etc. Great reaction Harri. 🤴🇬🇧🇨🇦🇺🇸🇺🇦🕊️💟🙃🔥
Always makes me cry for VERY personal reasons, especially the "page brown on old love letters" line. Difficult to listen to these days. It's a lovely but very sad song.
"Traces" was a number two hit in the US for Classics IV in 1969. Classics IV also scored hits with "Spooky" (1968), "Stormy" (1968), and "Sunny" (1969). "Spooky" features a killer sax solo. Check that one out next.
Just close your eyes and focus on the incredible instrumentation taking place in the background. Real musicians playing real instruments. Lyrics, vocals, musicianship, production. Perfection.
I heard this as a young child & it was very popular. For most of life, I thought that was a BJ Thomas song. Definite similarities in the vocals to his rendition of "Raindrops"starting from 3:15. I loved this song; such memories flooding back 🙂 😥
This song is typical of the Classics IV sound. Check out songs like "Stormy" or "Spooky" and you'll see. These guys never strayed too far from their basic sound.
The Classics IV’s style reminds me of another band called Bread. They have an amazing song called Guitar Man. It’s a must listen to Harri! Please review! Thanks again for your insightful review. ♥️
Hi Cosmo, Thank you! There's another one coming. The only thing that could make hearing this song any better would be maybe while driving a 1968 Firebird! - Brooklyn Mike
'Spooky' and 'Stormy' should definitely be next from these guys, but also 'Everyday With You Girl,' another fine tune, although not as big as the others. 'Traces' almost went to #1 on the U.S. charts.
All these bands like this . Make just beautiful music 🎶. Beautiful sounds thats. Music to my ears. And they made music foundation to the sounds that became ❤
Probably the best classification for this song is "easy listening/pop". The Classics IV had a very smooth sound. You said you're going to react to another of their songs, sir, so let me suggest 2 for you, sir. "Spooky" & "Stormy" are both good choices. Thank you, sir, for a song one can just drift away with.

Human beings have this incessant annoying habit to classify everything including popular music. What? Does it make them feel safe and organized? Haha. it;s just music, if it touches you it doesn't matter what people think it should be. That's a lot of human paranoia...it's "soft rock," oh no...it's not something else, oh no...my sense of security is gone...it's called variety. Live with it.

The jazz butcher does the best version of Spooky
Please do Spooky
ARS version has a great guitar lead and is a little more rock sound. Great version for sure.
Same - this song 😭😭😭😭💔💔💔💔

The late Dennis Yost and the Classics IV. What a beautiful song.
Great soft rock band from the 60's. Their biggest hits were "Spooky", "Stormy" & "Traces".
This is an all time great song.
Traces, Spooky and Stormy all great tunes from this group
My cousin Billy Gilmore of Sarasota Florida..played bass in classic 4 and behind Roy Orbison in candymen and Atlanta rhythm section..😊

Always loved this song.
This song is so perfectly written!
I am so lucky to still be able to play this song with my old friend who is a fantastic sax player - who also was offered a gig playing with the Jackson Five!
"Traces ," I listen to this song over and over .Never get tired of that sound. One word songs like"Stormy","Spooky","Sunny","Midnight".
One of those painfully truthful songs that they don't make anymore.
A friend of mine in Jr . high was in the choir - can still hear him letting loose to this . I love the memories a single song can bring up .
I sang this with my school glee club back in the '70s. Good old-fashioned schmaltz!
I can't even remember the last time I heard this song. Probably when it was on the radio for the initial run.
I remember a song called stormy or spooky I think . Good song
The chord progression makes me think more of jazz than anything else.
What a beautiful song. I hadn’t heard this one in a long time.
This is a classic song...no matter how much time passes, this song never grows old.
there is so much gold to be mined from the late 60's and 70's it's mind boggling. rip dennis. left this world at 65 - way too young
Tremendous band . I loved this late 60s style of song you can't beat it. I loved their track 'Stormy' another great tune. Reminds me of hearing this as a kid on Sunday morning radio shows.
Spooky is a great song by the Classics IV
I hadn’t heard this in probably 20 years and it still hits me in my feelings.
Song makes me melancholy remembering my 70s NYC childhood. In the 70s you were still connected to the 60s via TV and radio programs. So it's like you were a part of it.
Nice, nice jazzy chord progressions. Forgot how 'cool' these guys were. A special group with hints of soul.
'' Stormy '' is a great track from them ❤
Spooky is my fave from them-puts you right in that October mood. They also did "Spooky, "and "Stormy." Those two songs alone, set them apart. The lead singer has a wonderful voice. Oh, those 60s Bands and songs.
Great choice Michael. I love the Classics IV. Dennis Yost is one of my
favorite singers of all time. Spooky,
Stormy, Change of Heart,etc. Great
reaction Harri. 🤴🇬🇧🇨🇦🇺🇸🇺🇦🕊️💟🙃🔥
Hi Daniel, Thank you! There's another one coming. - Brooklyn Mike
Always makes me cry for VERY personal reasons, especially the "page brown on old love letters" line. Difficult to listen to these days. It's a lovely but very sad song.
I remember hearing this song. I didn't fully understand the lyrics. I just loved the beauty. Thank you Harri!
"Traces" was a number two hit in the US for Classics IV in 1969. Classics IV also scored hits with "Spooky" (1968), "Stormy" (1968), and "Sunny" (1969). "Spooky" features a killer sax solo. Check that one out next.
The sax player was the great Ronnie Laws who in the seventies & eighties wrote & played some really cool smooth jazz songs & a number of albums!!
Love this group! My favorite one is Every day With You Girl.
Just close your eyes and focus on the incredible instrumentation taking place in the background. Real musicians playing real instruments. Lyrics, vocals, musicianship, production. Perfection.
Such a beautiful, emotional song. Loved this when younger. Boohoo breakup song. Thanks Harri. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
I heard this as a young child & it was very popular. For most of life, I thought that was a BJ Thomas song. Definite similarities in the vocals to his rendition of "Raindrops"starting from 3:15. I loved this song; such memories flooding back 🙂 😥
“Spooky” (Covered by The Atlanta Rhythm Section & countless others) & “Stormy” (Covered by Santana) are great songs.
Thank you for requesting this Michael. I had totally forgotten about this band. Their soft, sweet sound was always touching. 🌺✌️
Hi Debbie, My pleasure... there's another one coming! - Brooklyn Mike
"mr. dieingly sad" of the critters also belong to the same soft rock genre.
Spooky and Sunny are great tracks as is 24hrs of loneliness and Mary Mary
This song is typical of the Classics IV sound. Check out songs like "Stormy" or "Spooky" and you'll see. These guys never strayed too far from their basic sound.
Great song I haven't thought about it in years, but I always feel sad listening to it
Hey Harri. Thanks for doing this song. I haven't heard it in a long time. I think the vocals are pop music but the music is classical.
Second verse…and when those violins come crying in…just melts me every time!
Wow! I haven't heard this song in so long.
Harri, you’re nailing these classics
The Classics IV’s style reminds me of another band called Bread. They have an amazing song called Guitar Man. It’s a must listen to Harri! Please review! Thanks again for your insightful review. ♥️
This song is *SO* 1968!!!! Love it!!! Sublime selection, Mr. Plotino.
Hi Cosmo, Thank you! There's another one coming. The only thing that could make hearing this song any better would be maybe while driving a 1968 Firebird! - Brooklyn Mike
@@michaelplotino7046 '67 'Stang for me, but yeah, I dig what you're sayin'.
Wow, you hit on a great one here.
Love this song!!
This song is beautiful! "Love me or leave me alone" is great too
Of course it's soft rock, or "lite" rock as it was also called.
Beautiful song
'Spooky' and 'Stormy' should definitely be next from these guys, but also 'Everyday With You Girl,' another fine tune, although not as big as the others. 'Traces' almost went to #1 on the U.S. charts.
The song is really enchanting and challenging when I heard it a week ago. And I have tried to cover it. Thanks for your review of this unique song.
Songs I loved as a boy crazy teen in 60s & 70s. Spooky is great too🎶💙🎶💙🎶💙
Spooky and Stormy were bigger hits but I always loved Change of Heart. Dennis Yost was sort of a laid back Southern version of Gary Puckett.
Don’t forget “Everyday with You Girl”, another of their big hits!
All these bands like this . Make just beautiful music 🎶. Beautiful sounds thats. Music to my ears. And they made music foundation to the sounds that became ❤
Hi Harri, Thank you for doing my request! I never get tired of hearing these guys. - Brooklyn Mike
Thanks a billion MY Friend You Always Send The Best 👌💯🎯👍🏅🏆🍒🇺🇸🙏
Check out Stormy by them. Awesome song!✌️
Please check out "Don't Let the Sun Catch you Crying" by Gerry and The Pacemakers.
Yes! I second this!

My aunt liked them. She had all their records when she died. I think they are more easy listening type.
Also Try Atlanta Rhythm Section , same Guitarist
no this is entirely what they do--and they are great
Biggest band to come out of Jacksonville, Fl.
Old but gold 😢

What a truthful, painful song that makes me think of some of the mistakes I have made in life. I love this song.
Hari you might want to do a comparison of Spooky done by Classics IV and The Atlanta Rhythm Sectioned Which members of the first band for,Ed!
Love you, Harri. Don't you love the quality and variety of classic rock?
I remember and like the song, but had no idea who did it.
This song reminds me of Elvis Castello from his Imperial Bedroom Era.
I may be wrong but I believe they were from Jacksonville, Florida. Great music.
I always thought he sounded like Frankie Vallie.
It’s funky I think that’s the term you might have searching for genre wise.
Maybe it is a "sunshine pop" song.
My first 45 i ever bought i was 15
Hi Mr. Harri, What did U say "Malikily Voice" what is that?? ♠W.G.
Dennis Yost.
"soft rock" but it's over jazz chords. 60s pop, that has become easy listening.
HARRI PLEASE SPIN P.P ARNOLD LETTER TO BILL

Try stormy
Harri please spin Gino Vannelli I've just got to stop
Saw him in concert in New Orleans in 2019, still sounded and looked great!
This is a balad
Can you react to beatles for no one
They were never a rock band more 60’s pop band.
You have a slight or some what a British accent, are you a Brit ?
Classics I thru III were vastly inferior.
Ba-da-boom..
They were just Classics but there was already a group with that name so later added IV because they ended with 4 members.
