Thank you Harri. I have loved this song forever. This type of music may never return. 😩 Absolutely fantastic. So many great memories and new treats on your channel. Thanks again Harri. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
There were many groups like this in the 60's. A couple that come to mind are The Associations the Walker Brothers, The Zombies to name a few. The 60's was an era rife with so many genres of music that laid the foundation for the decades of music to come and I grew up in that era. Was truly blessed.
This may be my all-time favorite '60s song; I heard it at an early age, and have never ceased to love it. This band was from Jacksonville FL, and later Atlanta. I think of it as early soft pop rock with a southern semi-jazzy/blue-eyed soul underpinning.
The song you reacted to previously was "Traces", sir. These guys are just a JOY to listen to! MUST check out "Spooky", sir - their style will confuse you all over again. Thanks for another reaction to a delightful band, sir!
@@judithstewart9612 Hi! I double-checked The Classics IV catalog, friend, & I still find "Spooky" listed as one of their songs. I know ARS covered it, so maybe The Rascals did, as well. Thanks for your comment.
This song reminds me of a hot summer day at the Jersey shore. It was playing on my big sister's transistor radio. She and her friends told me to get lost.
Actually soft rock was quite common back in the 50's-70's. There were bands like the Mamas and the Papas, The Association, Bread, America, The Fifth Dimension, The Cowsills, The Byrds, and many that had both a soft side, as well as songs that were more rockish.
These easy listening songs were very popular in the 60s.Around the time of the Mamas and the Papas,Peter Paul and Mary,Gerry and the Pacemakers,Gary Pucket and the Union Gap ,The Seekers,The Association,etc...
Great video, great memories of growing up in brooklyn. Excellent band. Guitars were plugged straight into amps, vocal were pure, no fancy effects, just pure talent. God bless.
Back in my younger days I listened to a young man sing this to me. He'd put my name in the place of Stormy. My young heart thought this was so romantic. Thanks for sharing this and making me remember that time.
Complete whole work of art tune:))))) Love it for everything and on all levels. I have been a singer/musician my whole life and this is in my top 200 tunes of all time. Love it.
These guys played in a small club outside my hometown back in the day. What a great show! How that club managed to get the Classics IV is still a mystery!
Harri, Santana did a great cover of this tune. My favorite Classics IV song is “Spooky,” their first big hit. Has a killer sax solo that I remember note for note.
This version is far superior to Santana's version or anyone else's ...This recording is one of the best examples of BLUE EYED SOUL that you will ever hear ...This recording is an untouchable ...Dennis Yost voice is incredibly emotional on this record ...Part of the charm of this recording is the time in which it was recorded ...This can't be matched ...It's like an old black and white classic movie . You can't remake Casablanca ...And you can't remake this ...
I thought you would really, really love this one, more than you seemed to. I think his voice is so powerful and sounds like an instrument. It’s been a favorite of mine for so long!
From Jacksonville FL, Some members went on to form Atlanta Rhythm Section and ARS covered redid Spooky which was a Classics IV song. The guitarist I know for a fact was in both the Classics IV and ARS
In all three major hit songs as I mentioned earlier-all have the same riff that was taken from their mega hit Spooky. they also had a hit song titled Everyday with You Girl.
@@michaelplotino7046 Nice! Mine was "Campus Green", one-speed, with a silver banana seat, low sissy bar, chrome fenders and slicks in the rear for super-long skidmarks!
Soft pop rock a la adult contemporary. Notice the subtle accents of the vibraphone during the verses before the sax solo. You'll hear that on a lot of hits that followed. The atmosphere it creates is a big part of the sound.
Love this song with it's haunting melody & lovely harmonies. Worth checking out the supremes version Love it as much as the original. Great reaction choice 👍👍
The original name of the band was the Classics but another band had that name so they changed to the Four Classics (four band members) and then eventually changed again to Classics IV.
"Stormy" is an example of the beautiful music created from that era. This song was just one of the eclectic songs about experiencing beauty from the 1960's. Try listening to "Like To Get To Know You" by Spanky and Our Gang, Harri.
What trips me out is both of their biggest songs, this one and Spooky, both have six letters in it and both start with S and end in Y. I tried to make sense of it for years but couldn’t find an answer. Classic IV is genius in conclusion.
Atlanta based and have a very smooth southern sort of jazzy laid-back style that made them very popular on those hot summer days when people just wanted to keep cool .
Loved The ClassicsIV. There is another group from the same period that most reactors don,t do. They are the Vogues. Some of their big hits were 5 O,clock World , My Special Angel, and Turn Around Look at Me. They are from my hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They have great harmonies. You should look them up Harri!
Their first hit, Spooky, had been an instrumental hit the year before (not by them). Yes, back in the 60's there were instrumental hits. Some DJs dig up Spooky and play it when Halloween is approaching just because of the title.
This is the kind of music that transcends and defies description, it just makes you want to sing, and harmonize... I love singing these songs.. Do the "Grass Roots" next...They are also beyond description, par excellance...Hah hah!
Their wiki page says singer Dennis Yost started as the drummer. He didn’t sit while playing and was known as the ‘stand-up drummer’ Cool song. I think Yost’s voice sounded like Eddie Vedder - compare this to ‘Black’. A first proto-grunge song? “Yesterday’s love was like a warm summer breeze’ I did a video on it too.
I wonder if this kind of music was a counter reaction to the few years before, which saw the rise of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Who, Kinks and others, who shattered the scene and some listeners ears together with the eyes by having "long" hairdos.
Dennis Yost has a beautiful husky voice, soulful soft rock ❤❤❤
Loved this back in the day. The voice is so soulful and with the sax it is so smoky.
Absolutely wonderful song. We play this on the gigs.

You can't listen to Dennis Yost and the Classics Four, and not be happy as all get up!
@@judithstewart9612 Sorry, but the "Classics Four" sang 'Spooky' as well...
These songs were welcomed in the 60s, because times were tough. Tunes like these calmed you down ,and soothed the soul.
I always like your reactions. You have such a positive upbeat attitude and a real diversity of music you react to. Thank you
I was a teen when this came out, a great mellow song. 👍👍👍
That sax! That sax! That sax!

Soft rock was mandatory in department stores and elevators.

@David Bradley Wouldn't you think of them as soft rock, or at least folk rock? They sure aren't heavy metal.
@David Bradley I disagree, but I guess it's how you define things.
@David Bradley Why are you making a big deal out of essentially a non-issue? All I've ever heard the Byrds referred to is folk/rock, and I agree.
In my opinion, "Spooky" is the Classic IV's best hit.
It was is Stormy!
Yeah, Stormy not Spooky!
Both songs were hits, but “Stormy” is an all time classic!!! 🎶 ❤
Traces made the BMI top 100 songs of all time. I love all their hits!

soft rock for sure "Every day with you Girl" another good one from them.
I grew up with this, truly classic.

When this band broke up some of the members formed the band Atlanta rhythm section.
They Actually Joined the Candy Men in 70 who were Roy Orbison's backing band then became Atlanta Rhythm Section in 72
Nice song very pleasant to listen to

A classic from the Classics IV. Good quality sound in this version. One of my favorite songs to sing. Thanks Hari!
Always dug this song & group from more than 50 years ago!! RIP Dennis Yost, lead singer.

Next must be Spooky!!!!!! Finally someone doing this group. Thank you.
Amazing how much great music is out there!
Such relaxing music! Love how they resolve to the major 7th chords for a soft jazz feel...then the sax kicks in to keep you floating! 😀👍

Excellent reaction as usual. You need to listen to Every Day With You by them - one of the best love songs ever.
Great reaction Harri.
I hope you react to more of their music because I think you will enjoy it.
Classics IV "Spooky" (1968) is bit more like a rock song, still jazzy, but with emphasis on the guitar vamp and a killer sax solo.
Love your choice of tunes. Great 60's classics

Apple Music has them classified as POP. I hear a mixture of jazz and R & B. Other big hits they had were "Spooky" and "Sunny".
Dennis Yost.
