Love these deep dives! For engineer-groupies like myself…these videos pull back the aluminum curtain to reveal inner workings. Love it. Mr.Nibbles approves!
A duel motor EV has no drive shafts connecting front and back, no t-case/ no transmission . A quad motor EV has none of that plus no differentials at all. A quad hub motor EV has even less with no CV/stub shafts at all. I’m thinking in a few years ev 4x4s are going to have way less parts to break and upgrade $$$. Just big RC cars will a lot of torque.
Depends on your vehicle, gear ratio, tire size... a lot of different factors, but in comparison 40's with stock gearing and no portals.... using portals will increase your fuel milage since your increasing your gear ratio (numerically) and multiplying torque by whatever the portal ratio is.
@@isaiahfranco6868 yes the gear reduction will help. But nobody runs 40s with stock gearing, we regear our differentials. So I’m wondering if portals and the added friction from all 4 gearboxes decreases the mpg even more. Obviously big tires and all the rotational weight and added friction on the road will decrease mpg a lot

Great stuff you guys. Love the technical videos
Love the information !
Outstanding. Thanks
Excellent as usual!!!
Thank you for the education. By the way do you make portal axles for Landcruiser 1998 pickup?

How much do portals affect the miles per gallon

@@sheephead3I commute with portals and 40s on a JK and get about 15-16 MPGs as long as I keep the RPMs at or below 2500
Who cares.
@@eriksteinholt Kind of a useless comment without saying what engine you've got.
