    If you’re wondering if 74 weld portals are worth the money? The answer is… Absolutely!! I installed portals in March, have over 10k on my gladiator with no issues. Traveled from Oklahoma to Tennessee hit Windrock Park then traveled to Colorado for more trails. The only thing better than the quality of the portals is the service you get from Quinn and his team! Awesome product, awesome people!

    great video! still peaking for the chevy platform stuff, wonderful stuff about the Live Valve. That's how I feel about abought the DSSV shocks on my truck, anything under a $1000 package isn't even close to the factory spec shocks even if they have more travel. I did a UCA swap with DirtKing and a shock spacer, but haven't done a shock swap I figured I would down the road for when I want to run a 37, but hopefully I can get a portal from you guys soon.....

    Hi, greetings from Australia. I’ve hand my Raptor for 18 months now, am loving it and finally about to start some mods (including bullbar and winch and spots). When you say the only way to lift is to use a portal is that because of the extent of the lift you’re going for? Here in Australia there are lots of guys changing to 35s with a change to springs and / or a perch collar with no direct impact on the suspension (as I understand it). Interested in your thoughts. Thanks! Mark

    I'm curious to know if these would be compatible with mid-travel kits that will eventually come out for this truck, the thought of a mid-travel kit combined with portals would be reminiscent of a mini AWD trophy truck.

    • @74weld
      @74weld  2 місяці тому +1

      @@500whpSTI they would work with say the Foutz kit, but I don’t see a big market for mid travel kits in general. It would be insane to take a live valve shock off and put a non live valve shock on. I see guys do it on F150 Raptor and I think each and every one of them is insane and dumb. If you want more shock than the 2.5” internal bypass which I for sure do, we have a solution in the works. We are designing a 3.0 internal bypass reservoir shock with live valve moved to a different location. We have a close relationship with Fox’s race department and they are letting us design and prototype it with their guidance. The issue is that with these computer controlled shocks the days of changing the suspension are going to be almost non existent. And it’s really because the only way to improve it is with another fox shock that retains the computer system. On this truck if you unplug one shock you instantly have codes on the dash and lose all drive and steering modes. The vehicles are just getting more integrated. This isn’t good it isn’t bad, it’s just where the tech is going. You either learn to adapt or you are fighting progress

    • @500whpSTI
      @500whpSTI 2 місяці тому

      @@74weld It would depend on type of driving or off roading the truck will do. For those that rarely offroad or do moderate off-roading but still want an excellent daily driver the OEM live valve is amazing. I have put a few thousand miles on my 3rd gen in Baja and the California desert and found the shocks to fade frequently (even when new). For my application, my pipe dream would be non oem race shocks with live valve coupled with bypasses and a +3" mid-travel kit. I just wish Fox made live valve race shocks so there wasn't such a hard choice to make between comfort on the street and consistent performance on long days of pre-running or a well-mannered and comfortable truck that does everything pretty good and is super livable.

    • @74weld
      @74weld  2 місяці тому +1

      @@500whpSTI while they might not make one I know they are going to release a gen3 shock very soon. The way the do the cooler on it shock fade should not be an issue. I haven’t looked at the shock closely but I would venture to bet it will have their 8 port piston. If you used that shock as a baseline and talked with a good tuner like Downsouth or Alltech they could easily move you to a 9 port, change valving for your style and that shock should be more than enough. Before his passing I had a long conversation with John Marking about a single shock in the front and he was adamant that with a recirculating cooler it would be plenty of shock. The way fox does their recirculating cooler vs how most shocks are designed is night and day different and shock fade should not be a problem. But that is ONLY on shocks that have two hoses coming out of the top cap. Otherwise the resi doesn’t really do much for cooling other than heat transfer through fluid and minimal dissipation from the finned reservoirs. The finned resi thing is really more for looks than actual function. If you want actual cooling you need that fluid to pump and that requires two hoses to a cooler

    • @500whpSTI
      @500whpSTI 2 місяці тому

      @@74weld thank you very much for taking the time to get back and explain that. That just sounds like a less expensive, better integrated and overall better for daily driving. I will be keeping my eyes peeled for those shocks for my 3rd gen!

    • @74weld
      @74weld  2 місяці тому

      @@500whpSTI it should be, but it might need some work to get to “Baja approved”. Most of the shocks they release are meh imo but that is only a knock on their tune. The shock is great and in the hands of the right guy it can be amazing. I’m spoiled to have access to “the guy” at Fox but we still work within the confines of the shock. Valving changes can make huge performance and feel differences so don’t be afraid to play around. A good tuner can translate what you feel into valving changes and you will see huge differences. We are releasing a Bronco shock now that looks the same as the shock fox makes but we did a different inner body and changed the bypass zones, different piston, and different valving. The end result is night and day.

      @@Suomyice anything can be done, but you would have to hack up the truck to fit a 40. A portal rig on 32’s has the same ground clearance as a non portal rig on 40’s. It’s just not needed. This truck on 37’s is fast, fun, nimble…it wouldn’t be the same on a 40

    • @Suomyice

      I am looking at it from a snow wheeling perspective here in Iceland. Where the bigger the tire is the better "floatation" you are able to gain when you have deflated down to 2-3 psi.
      I realize you can't always have it all. But as our season is short. And these trucks we have modified heavily to be able to challenge the toughest of condition ( 44x 18.5" tire is what is underneath most serious ones, we even have few Rams on 58" on Unimog portals ) makes them very lets say tailored for a specific use and not something you can( or will) daily drive.
      So what interest me about Portals is no least the ability to be able to put them on and off. And then over 8-9 months out of the year just keep the vehicle at stock height and use as your daily and to overland with.
      I have notice the Werewolf kit for the Bronco at least seem to provide both more lift and gear reduction. So maybe their approach might be better fit for the type of use case I might be considering portals for.

      @@ktm250xcw you must have missed the part where in the road certification test we beat the factory Ranger Raptor on the high speed evasive maneuver testing.
