Crooked, crooked cover up from the beginning. These detectives are great. Glad she got caught. She got 20 extra years of freedom. Sherry died painfully and horrified. I'm so sorry for Sherry''s parents.

I think it really shows how incompetent the force was when it came to suspecting their own. Sherri's father was onto Stephanie from day one and they should have taken that into consideration despite the fact that Stephanie was a cop.
It is so scary that Lasarus worked as a police officer for 23 years after committing a murder. I wonder if she killed any other innocent people in all that time. Your videos are very good.
Because she did this terrible crime, and was obsessed with her ex boyfriend, does not mean she was a complete lunatic , murdering others! I am not excusing her. But motive is an important element in most murders. She is not a serial killer. YOU are allowing your own imagination to go wild!
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. She knew herself that she reacted poorly to situations. For instance, she explained she reacted crazy to people "razzing" her, and she would just forget about it. She very well could have hurt other people.
One of the fascinating aspects of this. This may well have been her one lifelong horrible moment. How her internal life was - suppressing the memory and whatever guilt, if any, she felt - only she knows. This video is a classic in true crime history - and she is world famous for her facial expressions. thanks to the heroic efforts of Sherri's dad and those who picked up the ball years later and solved the crime - she got the "knock on the door" that she had to, at some level, have been terrified of for all those years.
@@annbutowski6379 you sound extremely naive or a lazarus cheerleader. They had Lazarus' DNA in a bite mark. What could have possibly been her defense? "Oh, I stopped by to give Sherri a quick chomp and some dudes must have broken in and killed her after that"?
orrr.... "I stopped by and noticed she was dead and all, so... I figured 'when am I ever going to have a better chance to find out what human flesh tastes like?'"
The defense lawyers were never going to try and set her free with no implication....., her "defense" was that Sherri attacked her and it was all self defense. But she was / is guilty all day long. Eligible for parole in 2034 but hopefully they keep on declining her requests. Being free for 24 years AFTER the murder is the amount of time you should serve AFTER your sentence is complete. Getting out in 2058. She'll be 98.
The envelope that the DNA tube was in was torn and her attorney said that she was framed. Thank God she incriminated herself over and over again in that interrogation. It helps seal her feet.
Really seems like they were covering for her. Because that level of incompetence is scary. Her being a cop would be a red flag not a pass to not be looked into in my book.
If John didn't think Lazarus had anything to do with his wife's death, why did he ask if she had anything to do with his wife's death before his trip to Hawaii?
Good observation, wow so true. that played his part in it, sleeping with stepheny keeping on the hook and telling his wife just to ignore it. He did that trying to get the best of both worlds and got his wife murde9
Sherri’s poor father. I couldn’t imagine how helpless he must’ve felt being told that ‘he watched too many cop shows’ and his suspicions being repeatedly brushed aside. I don’t usually believe this type of stuff, but it does seem very likely that this was some sort of cover up.

Just as guilty???? Are you crazy? How was he suppose to know she was a sadistic killer. He committed adultery, something that millions of people do everyday. He is only guilty of cheating on his wife, which by the way isn't even a crime.

I know it's hard to fathom now but there was a time between the free love of the 60s and the birth control of the 70s that 'screwing around' was not near as serious for many. Then aids hit and being faithful morphed into what it should of been all along. Throw college in the mix and being younger and it was really hard to judge it now.
Y'know, creators who just talk about themselves at the beginning/end of every thing they put out, so only 50% of the runtime is the content in the title, are totally not my bag. However! Creators who deliver great chunks of quality content, who tuck in quips and anecdotes related to the topic and share info about life events they're affected by or seriously care about - like this guy here - these feel like character-building and/or getting to know a person over time through natural conversation. That's a bag I'm totally into. ❤️🍍
There were several “slip ups: in the 1hr. 12min. interview. At one point she blurted out “what’s this got to do with me dating him and her getting killed?” Up to the point she said that, there was NO mention by the detectives that she was under suspicion. Stephanie herself put those two together before they closed in on her with the DNA evidence.
Everytime I watch an interrogation I always take a deep sigh of relief knowing that I don't have to carry around the guilt of murdering someone or the fear that one day I may be caught for it.
The weird part about this one is the motive seemed so senseless. I guess that does qualify her as a monster. Would have been interesting to hear what her husband and adopted daughter thought or even fellow officers.
He interview was one of the first police interviews I watched and it got me hooked. It was golden. I've watched it countless times, I just love the complete look of panic on her face throughout the whole thing
Sometimes it can be a result of a religious upbringing, you're taught that you're supposed to be married to one person and divorce is a disgrace (a prominent idea in many religions but only practiced modernly by strict ones) additionally in many films it's depicted that people are "made for eachother" which can lead to an unhealthy mindset There are obsessive disorders that make you compulsively focus on certain things or people. Maybe you hit your head and develop a different behavioral pattern? It's a case-by-case basis and that's why learning about motives is vital to a case.. that and prosecuting.
I can not imagine the relief that Sherri’s family felt when they FINALLY re-opened the case but then the anger too for the way the were treated and 20 years of i justice! They freaking protect each other even to deth. Her family deserved millions in restitution and yet LOST the case. It’s not about the money it’s about setting a precedent! God bless her family and I pray her loved ones are finally in a sense of peace until they see their beloved child, sister, and friend again. RIP Sherri
The full interrogation had me on the edge of my seat, she was just so casual it was like she had been cast on an episode of Law & Order. It's amazing how much leeway you get because others assume you must be innocent because you have a badge.
I really do like the way you describe some of these actions. "This does make him a bit of an ass," and so on. It's pretty funny, like listening to Jim Can't Swim with a bit more humor thrown in.
She really thought she’d gotten away with this, she’s not in the slightest bit concerned and she’s proud of what she did. He is a total douche bag for still sleeping with her after he was married
I don't believe he did sleep with her while married, I suppose he technically did sleep with her "after being married", but only in that he slept with her after his wife's death, he slept with her while engaged, then after the murder I believe that's it.
@@Black-Sun_Kaiser I just don't know what world all of you people saying he "got his wife killed" or "it's mostly his fault" or "he should take responsibility" are living in, he was young, he cheated, that's a pretty common experience, murder isn't. The only way it would be his fault in any way is if he somehow knew what she was going to do, which he obviously didn't. Sherri had such humble, kind eyes and this whole incident was just so sad. John should have taken things more seriously, especially after Kookoo eyes showed up at his wife’s job making threats. No, it’s not his fault at all, and I’m sure the man still has unresolved guilt and maybe even resentment towards himself and that he should have done more (just speculation.) If crazy eyes didn’t bite Sherri (thus leaving dna) I’m wondering if the case would have still been cold and unsolved? Biting someone usually lends itself to crimes from passion, it’s not impossible but surely not that common for thieves who break in houses/armed robberies bite their victims. I just don’t understand why John didn’t take his beautiful wife’s dad more serious? Why would he not even explore that possibility and try and dot as many i’s and cross as many t’s? Especially since he knew how Stephanie was, and I’m sure Sherri also told her husband about being followed everywhere. I just feel somethings a bit off. Again, he was not responsible for Sherris brutal murder, but he should have set some boundaries and been more assertive and forceful. Maybe there was a tiny part of him that boosted his ego just a bit knowing someone was that obsessed with him and having two women fight over him. That’s also speculation and by now means facts and definite s, just my thoughts and opinions. Regardless, Sherri was such a bright young lady who could have done much more good for the world. It’s ironic that one would think that being a detective (at the time) and interviewed & interrogated many people, that she would then be able to breeze right through hers. However, the side where one sits on the chair changes situations drastically and is two totally different dynamics. Her fight or flight responses were on full force (stomach gurgling, voice cracking, adding fluff and having too long and nonsensical answers to very simple questions.) I’m glad Sherris family & friends got that closure. No parents or care takers should ever have to bury their child. Rest In Peace, Sherri. 🙏🏼🤍👩🏼⚕️🩺 Rot in Jai, Stephanie. 👀🔩🔧🚫
Did you listen all the way through? They theorized there was a fight for the gun and Sherri got crazy eyes in a headlock and thats why she was bite. She may have very well went over with the intention of just scaring her buy Sherri went into fight instead of flight plans were immediately changed. John was a scumbag therebis no doubt about that. He had set with crazy eyes after he was engaged to Sherri. He no doubt liked having a side piece or two around.
I do think John is partially responsible. He failed to protect his wife, he failed to listen to her, he failed to keep it in his pants after he was engaged-sleeping with the wacko that he knew was obsessed with him...he was and likely is a weak POS. He definitely set this crime in motion by not telling Crazy to back off and never be near his wife again.
I couldn't imagine being a cop, trying to lie to other cops about a murder i committed, she probably thought she could outsmart them..in reality it was over before she ever went into that office.
It’s really not hard to fool a cop as another cop because they assume you’re innocent by virtue of your position as a cop. But that shouldn’t deter them from reviewing even other law enforcement as suspects, that only slows things down.
They had left the swab with the DNA from the bite in the coroner's office. Tucked away from police records. Otherwise, it probably would have been removed years ago while in their possession.
@@clareowens2597Stephanie Lazarus wouldn't have had access to the coroners freezer. Just stumbled on your channel two days ago. Haven't been feeling great and I have been trying to finish crocheting this big beautiful afghan blanket (it is the size of a king size comforter/duvet) for my son as I have so much to do before Christmas, I'm going home to Canada (I'm in the UK married to my British husband)! We finally don't need to quarantine. My son splits his time between Canada and the UK (we go to Canada lots too), but since Covid, I haven't seen him. Video chatting once or twice a day with a 13 year old isn't the same. Since we couldn't see each other, he went from the height of the top of my shoulder and now he is 5'8". We are all so lucky that we never caught Covid (any of us), but this is the hardest and worst thing to go through, not seeing him, it was devastating, so we're excited. I am making so many gifts for people (I have a chronic illness that has me bedridden half the time, so I make home decor and artwork and knitting/sewing/crocheting, literally in bed!), and lots to prepare. I'm sharing because you so kindly updated us and because your videos have made the perfect background to let me get on with making this blanket and to make my photo album with artwork throughout and plus my hand painted and crafted Christmas cards, wreaths, etc, so I needed a distraction and this channel is PERFECT. Between JCS and this channel, it's been such a fantastic outlet and great to learn whilst I am busy doing other things. Keep up the amazing work and feel better soon!

Sherri’s dad was an amazing dad he really kept pushing for them to look at Lazarus he believed his daughter & knew that’s who killed her. I’m so glad those last two detectives took it seriously & reopened it, otherwise that case would of been closed & Sherri would never have gotten justice.
Well said!
Too right. That wanker Johnno “Rotten” even poo poo’d the idea of Lazarus being the killer all the way through. He’s a wrong ‘un as well. Kripes!
I think it really shows how incompetent the force was when it came to suspecting their own. Sherri's father was onto Stephanie from day one and they should have taken that into consideration despite the fact that Stephanie was a cop.
LAPD seems to have the most horrible officers.
Sounds like my dad 🥺 so messed up he had to work so hard to get justice for his baby girls MURDER!!
She went 23 years before the truth came out about this murder so it is quite possible she has done others that we don't know about yet. You sound like your extreme naiveness is taking over the critical thinking part of your brain.
no, people who commit "crimes of passion" and "serial killers" don't think the same way.
@@cautionTosser I laughed and then wished for a world where this happened in the interview.
I hate how people I bite randomly get murdered by strangers stealing their vcr.
The initial detectives were either incompetent or covering for Lazarus.
Really seems like they were covering for her. Because that level of incompetence is scary. Her being a cop would be a red flag not a pass to not be looked into in my book.
Police can find evidence to convince guilt or innocence.
Thet find whatever makes them look innocent.
LA has a long history of coverups and corruption.
Cover-up and incompetence unfortunately

If John didn't think Lazarus had anything to do with his wife's death, why did he ask if she had anything to do with his wife's death before his trip to Hawaii?
because sherri's dad said she did it and he didn't put it past her
The stolen marriage license must have given John some thoughts that Spazzy Lazzy did it.
He wanted to believe the Hispanic people did it
Because he didn’t think that then.

Plenty of stories out there of men killing other men over a woman. Do people ever say fellas stay away from those trash girls? I detect some Saltiness over here. Every single thing isn't an excuse to attack men Karen.

At 26:23 it sure seems like Lazarus let an actual real memory slip out when she said, “you mean like was she throwing things at me or somethin’?”
Also at 33:17. She says "Cause now it sounds like there's......" She was gonna say "evidence".
Everytime I watch an interrogation I always take a deep sigh of relief knowing that I don't have to carry around the guilt of murdering someone or the fear that one day I may be caught for it.
Life is a breeze when ya dont go around killing folk 😅🤠🙏
The weird part about this one is the motive seemed so senseless. I guess that does qualify her as a monster. Would have been interesting to hear what her husband and adopted daughter thought or even fellow officers.

Sometimes it can be a result of a religious upbringing, you're taught that you're supposed to be married to one person and divorce is a disgrace (a prominent idea in many religions but only practiced modernly by strict ones)
additionally in many films it's depicted that people are "made for eachother" which can lead to an unhealthy mindset
There are obsessive disorders that make you compulsively focus on certain things or people.
Maybe you hit your head and develop a different behavioral pattern?
It's a case-by-case basis and that's why learning about motives is vital to a case.. that and prosecuting.

@@Black-Sun_Kaiser I just don't know what world all of you people saying he "got his wife killed" or "it's mostly his fault" or "he should take responsibility" are living in, he was young, he cheated, that's a pretty common experience, murder isn't. Sherri had such humble, kind eyes and this whole incident was just so sad. John should have taken things more seriously, especially after Kookoo eyes showed up at his wife’s job making threats. No, it’s not his fault at all, and I’m sure the man still has unresolved guilt and maybe even resentment towards himself and that he should have done more (just speculation.)
If crazy eyes didn’t bite Sherri (thus leaving dna) I’m wondering if the case would have still been cold and unsolved?
Her fight or flight responses were on full force (stomach gurgling, voice cracking, adding fluff and having too long and nonsensical answers to very simple questions.)
I’m glad Sherris family & friends got that closure. No parents or care takers should ever have to bury their child.
Rest In Peace, Sherri. 🙏🏼🤍👩🏼⚕️🩺
Rot in Jai, Stephanie.
John is totally responsible. He’s a creep.
John is to blame too
