Well- as someone who was a Zen monk for almost 10 years, the guy asked and Seagal - to his great credit- showed him directly. In formal Zen training, immediate demonstrations are required, not clever, wordy pablum. He asked for the essence of Zen and he immediately got shown directly exactly what it is. I doubt he has any idea of what happened to him, but I have a deep respect for Steven Seagal’s depth of understanding, as his demonstration was perfect! And he definitely passed that koan!
It's an old tale. A student asks his mentor "What is the Budha nature?" And the mentor throws him in the water in response. Seagal himself told this story before in interviews.
Steven doesn't like ppl who think they're above the law and make him feel he's under seige. That puts you on deadly ground and makes you marked for death, and if you think you can fight back just understand when he's out for justice he's definitely hard to kill.
