I bloody love a cammed V8 as always a top review Jon. Sorry to be a LS nerd but I'm pretty sure that is a L98. The manual VE SS came out with L98 and the auto the L77 with LS2'S only in the VZ/VE HSVs there all 6L so easy to confuse them. Haha there is more LS variants than a someone could poke a stick at and I love every single one of em.
@@RossReviewsau haha don't worry mate most LS owners don't even know the difference between the LS's apart from the LS1,2,3 LSA not knowing there is heaps more to the LS family. At the end of the day it don't matter ay they are all great platforms and I'd have to say the L98 is better then the LS2 because LS2 have the old cathedral heads but a better cam where as the L98 has square port (LS3 style) heads and intake manifold so after a cam upgrade the LS2 makes less power than a L98 for the same upgrades lol sorry being a bloody nerd again

Recently lost my ssv manual sedan to a distracted driver, devastating knowing ill probably ever be able to afford another as nice!! Had the same mods but different brands. Was a beautiful car to drive. Like you said it's all about the engagement.

This definitely didn’t disappoint, love the colour, sound and looks! Oh and the power is bloody sweet. Pretty good 0-100 considering it’s a manual, that needle was flying. A good friend of mine has the Sudan in this colour and no video can do it justice on how good it is.

I've got pretty much the same power as this in my Caprice V WM. Can confirm is good fun. Not a manual though since its a caprice. Always wanted to see a proper review on a cammed L77/76/98 with manual. Half the videos on YT are them just doing burnouts haha
Same with my Calais only come in auto /similar HP , its good to see both sides i still love my auto on bendy back roads I still can drop it back gears n so fourth so u know, nothing better than a sunny day back roads windows down full noise haha
Excellent review mate. Would love to see a few laps and some track footage. The stock VE brakes also hold up really well based on our experience and everyone reckons they are dirt compared to the HSV stoppers. Also, I think it will have a L98 or L77 in it as opposed to the LS2.
Great review ross, recently bought a VE SSV 60th anniversary edition Sedan 200kms but still going strong in the 6 speed manual, even bone stock these cars go really well!
Sold my cammed VE manual today. The price of having a family. I had her for third of my life. I feel like its the last part of my adolescence. But she will live on in good home. I'll just miss her. RIP 2012 - 2022
Got 2010 ssv 3 months ago with 90k on it nice ute but must admit I was looking for another xr6 turbo ute but missed the boat and they became to expensive so now it's time for DOD delete and cam in the SS looking forward to this review.
First thing I did with my 08 Caprice was a vcm air intake then got dod delete kit vcm 532 cam and three inch exhaust system, cost round 12 grand mark fully installed and dyno tune and tell you what it's the best daily I've ever driven👍
i got a sedan of this, most of the same mods too, i dont know why people say its boring, i instantly loved the car when it was released, its got a nice shape
I love my 2006 manual ve ss sedan just had a cam and all the goods in it now pushing 470 to the hubs it’s so fun to drive still easy to drive and it’s my daily the 6.0L push good power with just a cam is so good and you can’t go wrong I wish I did it ages ago
My 2008 ve ssv has all the same mods 3 inch stainless xforce xhaust with inch and 78 headers Ls7 lifters pac racing springs full custom tune vcm otr vcm cam mines auto and it’s got the tuff stuff 25% under drive and it’s 350rwkw these utes with the L98 Are powerful as I wouldn’t mind doing a brake upgrade and stereo upgrades

I have an immaculate vz ss 6.0 in my garage that i drive like twice a year and have/ had a Ve ss as my daily lol that i just gave to my son when i got my vf ss as a daily. My face lights up in my vz, even my VF is boring compared to the VZ.
It's damned hard getting a manual off the line quickly isn't it.? Going through the curvy roads and winding it out is what's best with a powerful manual car. I don't even try getting good 0 - 100kmh times in my manual JZZ30 Soarer as I feel I have too much mechanical sympathy, ha ha ha.

Why would Ford choose leaf springs in a market that they knew would automatically associate them with old tech unless there was a mighty good reason to? Putting in an independent rear in a ute indicates they were aiming at a lifestyle market, not serious load carrying prowess as their main purpose is. It always bothered me. I would still consider one as I am not interested in lugging a load of bricks either. I'm talking about the market as a whole. Holden should have offered a live rear axle leaf spring rear on the utes, as an option.

@@kresnik_ss no doubt, for you and many others, the superior dynamics and ride of IRS is perfect for your ute. Good point about such a combination no longer attainable. The car based ute was devised to give a car like experience while being able to carry bigger items a car couldn't carry. Yours just ups the car side of things that bit more and that's perfectly valid and in reality, a very small percentage ever load them to the gills, so may as well enjoy the best car like dynamics on offer. Will have no trouble carrying dirtbikes or jet skis.
When Holden released the VE, the public were in the early stages of moving away from large sedans and into twincab utes and SUV's. That one billion spent to develop the VE was money squandered. I realised even back then that Holden had nothing left, and was on borrowed time. A twincab ute and SUV designed and built inhouse with a uniquely Aussie name and character would have resonated with Holden fans, and saved the company. They just didn't foresee the future correctly. Once they began importing even the Commodore, I just gave up on them.

Holden Elizabeth 20 mins from me north of Adelaide stopped production and all Holden's sky rocketed. But yeah COVID probably also didn't help but main reason is Holden stopping production and many now hold price or gone up massive like your VL, MY VK, my old VP Calais bought 4K sold $ 5k thought I made a good profit Holden closed down and when looked up both VK and VP I nearly had heart attack in so sad. VK like I said above $30-60k I got for $500 from a front yard and did it up. VP Calais now $20k -$40 if I kept both and sold yeah that's around 100K. 30K I would put in VE SS V8 UTE and rest into a house. Or kept the VK as had such sentimental value to me being first car, first vehicle had a root in and priceless memories me and first girlfriend. But yeah. Anyways have a good day and weekend. Reliability..hahaha, the Barra is known to be bullet proof unlike the V6 holden , the VF timing chain issue just for starters.

L98 has LS3 rec port heads and intake, LS2 has LS1 Cathedral Port heads and intake, both 6.0L but that's the difference between them

@@supraaa94rzI sold my VK for fkning $800. They go for $30K to 60K now. Also it wasn't COVID that price hike. Holden Elizabeth 20 mins from me north of Adelaide stopped production and all Holden's sky rocketed. But yeah COVID probably also didn't help but main reason is Holden stopping production and many now hold price or gone up massive like your VL, MY VK, my old VP Calais bought 4K sold $ 5k thought I made a good profit Holden closed down and when looked up both VK and VP I nearly had heart attack in so sad. VK like I said above $30-60k I got for $500 from a front yard and did it up. VP Calais now $20k -$40 if I kept both and sold yeah that's around 100K. 30K I would put in VE SS V8 UTE and rest into a house. Or kept the VK as had such sentimental value to me being first car, first vehicle had a root in and priceless memories me and first girlfriend. But yeah.
Anyways have a good day and weekend. I'm glad I'm not only one sold for cheap and lost big hahah 😅😤

@@noelgibson5956 Nope clown boy. Coming from someone who bought a brand new VZ SS and had it supercharged by Marks Workshop i can say the barra i own now would rape it without even trying. Also, name a GM car that is exclusive as the GT 40 that won LeMans many times, sold for 15 Million and even the latest version goes for 2 million. I'll wait dopey. Reliability..hahaha, the Barra is known to be bullet proof unlike the V6 holden , the VF timing chain issue just for starters.
