Holy smokes. I’ve been a passionate Ford man since the mid 70s, and respect to the Barra, but no matter how you tune them they sound poxy. And the ones that only have free flow exhaust are ghastly The V8. Holden, Ford, whatever - nothing beats the sound and feel of the V8
From what I've read on various forums, standard FG's have a +2km/h "error" on the speedo @ 60km/h (so 58km/h not 60km/h), apparently for "safety". "Police Mode" removes this "error". This mode can be made available with a CAN programmer, doesn't have to be a chaser 😉
I'm on the fence between Ford and Holden having owned a number of Commodores and Falcons. I do prefer the exterior look of the VE over the FG though. The VE seems more solid, especially in the rear end.
I own both. Fgx around 550whp and vf around 480 due to it not being reliable and added cost to try get the power out of the ls2. Clutches go in them. Slave cyclinders. Runs hot and not good for summer days. Diff is weak as for hard driving. Love the v8 though reliability and drive ability the fgx is better. Plus the 8 is a bit of nugget accelerating at speed on freeway compared to the 6

Gotta love em eh
Nice video. I have s similar Holden model. Love the V8 sound.
They sound awesome
I can’t live with turbo lag. The response from a 6.0 litre naturally aspirated at all revs is so much more satisfying.
The noise is the best from a V8
Barras don't have much lag at all unless you got a massive turbo. My Fg has full boost just after 2k rpm.
The big 4L carries it to boost pretty well.
@@connorwichman2506 pretty much. I have an ss and a fgx g6e. Auto fgx manual vf. Two different cars. Ss good if you want to put a show on in traffic with the sound though for speed. Acceleration etc the fgx is so much better. External gate makes it 1000 times more fun to drive than the ss. And when you’re at speed and want to accelerate the v8 is a nugget compared to it.
I’ve had v8s for a decade and best thing I did was get a fgx. Way more reliable. Doesn’t run hot like the ls. Better fuel economy with the ability to put down almost 100hp more.
Only have it as my son loves the v8 for cursing
Both beautiful cars. Kinda just what you like. XR6 Turbo is an awesome car and the commodore ss is no different. Kinda depends whether your into v8s or i6s. I’d take the ss, sounds so good 🤤
Yup can’t go wrong with either
Why not just have one of each? ;)
Love a cammed v8, but 6s can also scream some almighty lovely notes too!
@@petezappa8748 that’s the dream! Barra at high rpm can definitely scream some nice engine notes!
i wouldnt mind seeing how my VF SV6 black edition with twin turbs at 504hp would stack up. Does a 10.78 Quarter
Even though i love my VF, the mighty Barra is an amazing engine and so easy to slurp up the boost!
Damn sounds like a beast bro!
Cammed SS all day long. Sounds way better than the six banger. Hard to beat that idle.
A good cam is something special eh
A future review has got to be the legendary XR8 Pursuit 250! Only 250 were made. 5.6l stroker. Do it!!
I’m keen
I love the power from Australian cars. We never had.proper.power, from the Fords and Vauxhalls in Europe and the U.K.
It’s a shame the Aussie cars never really got shared around the globe
VE HSV GTS is the 6.2 litre LS2 BIG brother to the Little VZ! sibling
Finally people who don’t argue it their both beautiful cars Aussie icons
Amen both epic
You can tell which car Ross likes the best. the turbo must be funnier to drive , but up the cammed ss
Both are so good in their own way
Holden man here - Those turbo barras, to me at least, are frightening at full noise.. even a stock one
They go HARD on full boost
@@RossReviewsau they sure do, I nearly shit myself everytime
I've had turbo cars and they were fun, but there's nothing quite like a worked V8. Tuff as 💪
It’s a fair statement the noise of a rowdy V8 is hard to pass
Cant beat that barra
It’s a magical engine
Regardless the outcome, nothing beats the V8 sound and feel
gotta love the rumble
The V8 sounds glorious , but I'd take the 6 turbo
I think that’s me too
Just install a turbo on the V8
@@kajak012 could buy another car for that cost. Plus the heat in the bay goes through the roof. Can’t daily it. Fuel use goes through the roof and your ac will be blasting air as warm as piss
@@lukeneill1568 ac blasting warm air?
My Ve SS tows the boat effortlessly....luv it
good stuff
If both car's are AUTO i take XR6 Turbo. I love to see a Cammed XR8 5.4 Boss Engine.
Yes I’m auto form the falcon is superior with the ZF for sure
@@RossReviewsau would you what Auto transmission the Holden SS ran on ? 2008-2014 versions
@@anishchand4420 not sure which one it is, but I know its 6 speed auto with tiptronic. It also "rev matches" kinda when you downshift, I found it interesting.
I've owned both and love both. I could never pick between them.
both is the correct answer
3:23 that honestly sounds like a plastic bottle jammed in the spokes of a push bike
🥲
Nice review man, what road did you film this on? Keen to cruise it haha
O’Brien rd 👌✅
I went from a ls3 custom cammed ss ute to a fg xr6T ute with plenty of work done to both i much prefer the xr6T over the ss
The VE is easier to get in and out of if your big n tall.
without watching the Turbo should smash it.
I had an xr6t stock and it moved, traded for a 6.2 ls3 SSV and in stock form the SSV was quicker and easier to drive.
Both great cars...
Thanks for sharing
2:36 what Australia does best he says, yet the V8 engine in the holden ss is a Chevrolet LS
RESPECT for both beautiful BEASTS..
amen bro..
Hey there, Love your videos!! 👌👌 btw can I know that placed please 🙏 looking for a good road for a weekend drive in perth😀
It’s in Gidgegannup
Amazing video I would just like to know where you ever do a review on a Holden Commodore VN SS and SV6
Thanks ken.. I’d love to just need to find one
hey dude where did you film this? i live in perth too looks like a nice spot to drive
What can I say Johnny mate 2 Aussie classics right there lol,I'd own both if I could absolutely beautiful cars both with their own + & - top review loved it man.
Knew you would love this one
Should have been ss vs xr8 lol and also idk why Holden did not make a v6 twin turbo. 😢
Awesome comparo Jon, I feel like if you own both of these in your garage you've made it, the best of both camps.
Spot on brother!
I've got a VE SSV Manual and I love it, but I would absolutely love to own a FG XR6T as well, I would go Auto in the Falcon though.
i want to get into drag racing for fun and build a track car i was looking into a BA xr6 turbo, but then i watched cletus and McFlurry and now i want a 7.3L Ford Godzila crate motor in an Incredible AU lol, i have been down the R33 rabit hole but the V8 Noise just sounds beautiful.
the ss just sounds so much better
It does
Been a holden boy since i was botn watching bathurst with my dad growing up but you just cant go past the turbo barra man. Ford did a really good job with the falcons.
How cool is we once had the option to buy either of these cars new
It’s sad we no longer make cars 😞
as ford lover, i’d take the cammed ss any day of the weak, tougher, cheaper and just and absolute weapon. 👌🏼
That’s a fair call!
In other words your a turn coat
It’s cheaper for a reason. Own one and you’ll see wh
Love my SSV.
They are very nice
So good advertisements and all the info we already know. Such a great vid
glad you enjoyed the ads and the info you already know ;)
I had an fg manual turbo ute, then I had the fg auto turbo ute, The auto would reel off around 4.8 stock for me, the manual around 5.1 stock. I modified the Auto ute I had to 460rwkw and the best I could manage was a mid 5 with the same rubber. Sometimes Less is more lol (Below 100 on the street)
Like you said both are different in the way they put power down, Im a V8 hoon all the way but I love turbo barras too so i would own either I currently drive a cammed VY SS.
lovely mate! my fav is VZ tho.. both are great in different ways
I have to say, I love them both Ross lol
Me too mate
Holy smokes. I’ve been a passionate Ford man since the mid 70s, and respect to the Barra, but no matter how you tune them they sound poxy. And the ones that only have free flow exhaust are ghastly
The V8. Holden, Ford, whatever - nothing beats the sound and feel of the V8
I actually have one of each! Both are really fun in their own ways.
Your living the dream mate
that year VE as an SS wagon 🤤 it's tough.
Would love a comparison between a holden and an audi wagon at the same price. would love your opinion.
Well done mate
Thanks 🙏
What was with the police display on the Falcons dash when you turned on the ignition?
Ex chaser?
From what I've read on various forums, standard FG's have a +2km/h "error" on the speedo @ 60km/h (so 58km/h not 60km/h), apparently for "safety". "Police Mode" removes this "error". This mode can be made available with a CAN programmer, doesn't have to be a chaser 😉
Might be eh😅 I noticed that to
Buy both for the garage
amen
yooo that holden ss sounds so good omg 🤤🤤🤤
Gotta love a cammed V8
Crumbs! If you ignore the lag, that turbo moves once it's on boost. Impressive, though the lag perhaps not so much.
Turbo lag is a thing with them 🥲
Comes on at 3k not much lag
The V8 for me, the sound it Makes over the Turbo is a deal breaker for me.
Fair call
This is my new fav video from you ay 😂
🙏🙏🙏🤙🤙
