Listening to Julian is like listening to the history of the last 150 years of guitar music. He moves seamlessly through ragtime and blues and jazz and rockabilly and rock and roll and it all just becomes a coherent whole thing. It's not a genre, it's ALL the genres.
@jooohan-i9o I’ve met Julian and seen him live many times. I understand his understated demeanor and calm disposition. All I’m saying is to improvise the way he does (especially in an acoustic set where he’s playing solo), it requires a certain level of courage. Improvising doesn’t always “work” and the way you get to this point is by not being afraid if it doesn’t.
Is a child fearful of playing with their legos, even if adults are standing around watching? Julian is what this world needs more than anything right now - joy, playfulness, freedom. Forget instagram perfection, he is truth and beauty
The best music is on the brink of disaster. Julian’s music is consistently on that line. My favourite live shows ever. Just a wonderful energy and, to your point, a sense of freedom that is really compelling.
Julian plays the guitar completely. Loud, soft, high, low, gentle, harsh, fast, slow. He is a pivotal player, like Django or Chet, in our generation. We’re fortunate to see him in concert.
He played tunes from his latest as well as his older ones and some old jazz standards. I don't think he's playing the same stuff at each because in the videos from the other solo gigs he's playing stuff that wasn't played at the Dublin one.
I always watch any new Julian Lage videos right away. It's so remarkable how he can provide such new, refreshing takes on songs we already know well. They never get stale or "overplayed" all thanks to his unparalleled level of feel, fluidity and creativity. My favorite current guitarist by a mile. Thank you for the amazing video, Julian!! Please come back to Colorado soon!
Maravilloso. En cada una de las interpretaciones de sus temas, siempre nos sorprende con cosas nuevas. Estoy completamente enganchado a este guitarrista. Su conocimiento, su ejecución, su puesta en escena, su capacidad de improvisar y crear... GRANDE LAGE!!
This is total guitar. Jazz, pop, rock, blues, classical. The guy combines the total range and possibilities of the instrument and all that while improvising. It's the highest level ever achieved in a guitar, I really believe so.
I was there, at both the earlier and the later show. Both were amazing, you could hear a pin drop and Julian left us all utterly blown away. Absolutely amazing stuff
The outstanding guitarist of the past 20 years, and arguably one of the outstanding improvising musicians alive today of any genre or instrument. I often wonder how much of this talent is ‘simply’ a matter of his softly-spoken and enthusiastic personality. It’s rare to see a musician so obviously enjoying what he is doing every time he performs.
Thank you Julian for coming to Ireland I came to this concert from Limerick and I don't regret it although I'm not entirely happy with standing there for two hours I'm not old but not a teenager anymore but meeting you and your music live compensates for any inconvenience. Please consider coming to Limerick next time. best regards Suavic
I love the original recording of this track on the Martin, but it's also lovely to hear on the Collings and this was such a good rendition. Nice work on the audio as well Mr. Goodell!
So pleased to see some new live performances hitting UA-cam. Like someone else said, I always seek new clips and listen to anything as soon as it’s out. I basically search at least twice every day 🫣🤣 I can’t wait to see you again in London and the Brighton - the latter with my 2 daughters who used to sneak out of their rooms after bedtime and listen to me learning Ryland. Special.
Was at the Glasgow show last night, absolutely spell binding and the interpretation of Summertime was amazing. Truly peerless and unique command of the instrument and harmony. Thanks for making the trip to Scotland and hope to see you back.
the joy of him listening to the sounds your own guitar makes is beyond and it transfers so much to the audiences ears. Always curious about the next line and how it might sound. I believe very few people can make their instruments speak so much for themselves and tell such an interesting story as presented.
Nobody enjoys a Julian Lage concert more than Julian Lage
Amen!!!!
Nice comment! Well said. As Wallace Stevens said: “It must give pleasure”.
🤣🤣
I thought the same, like wow hes the most surprised, present and delighted person there
I’m trying my hardest to win, but how could I ?!
How fortunate we are to hear this music from wherever we are in the world
Very fortunate
Estaba pensando lo mismo, cuando apareció tu mensaje 😂

@@c.t.6314 we keep enjoying him

Literally what I was thinking. Is there anything like this man in full flow?
nope. He’s 1 of 1
The fearlessness, that’s what I truly admire. That’s true freedom on the instrument.

The remarquable musicians are the most free ones. Am i listening to jazz here? blues? gipsy? pop? Who cares, it's brilliant !
So true, i hear those genres as well

I was there. Completely blown away by the whole set.
Nice. I got to see him in Homer, NY. Felt the same way.
I'm seeing him this weekend. Is he playing a mix of his albums? Mostly from the latest?
He played tunes from his latest as well as his older ones and some old jazz standards.

@@tombyrne8657 Nice!! So glad he's over here. I have to see Hiatus Kaiyote next as well so I'll be looking out for them coming over.
Saw him in London a few days later. He left everyone speechless, even though we knew exactly that we would be in for a treat.
The music from this tour is absolutely slaying. My wife kept asking if I'm ok as I listen.
Julian is the greatest improv guitar player I’ve ever heard. Everything just sounds so organic, touching, and yet so technically amazing
he plays so freely yet the rhythm is always keep tight. Amazing
I am speechless. Few other humans play guitar solo like this.
I think that was the most musical thing I've ever seen ❤
Was there. He was astonishing. Such a talent.
Absolute galactic mastery of the guitar, unparalleled.
Just back from his Glasgow gig. Extraordinary.
Julian Lage toujours meilleur, toujours plus génial, toujours Magique !!!
There's so much joy in your playing and so much soul it's always a wonderful moment Thanks
Fortunate enough to say I was there. What a show!!
Yesssssss! From my favorite Julian Lage album so far. Go Jules!
Every performance of Day and Age is a joyous occasion, thanks for sharing Julian and team.

That modulation to Gmaj at the end... unbelievable. You can see him transcribing it as he's playing!

This hits deep as it's really played from the gut. Very nice!! Bluesy too!

Wow. Just wow 🙏
Just saw the show in Leeds last night - absolutely incredible!
Gold sir, pure gold.
What an amazing guitarist and real musician!
A wonderful rendition - as joyful to watch as it seems to be for Julian to play.
His control, his phrasing, his willingness to explore new territories during his improv is all so refreshing. A true master of his craft
Incredible playing, amazing music 🥹❤️

So wonderful to see and hear these live videos. Just sooooo good!
Oh my goodness 😍
What a treat, thanks for sharing these! See you in London this Thursday!
No one talks with their guitar like him. Missing his seattle show is one of my biggest regrets.
Speechless. That was a moving experience.

First listened to Julian with World's Fair and it's still one of my favorite records. Phenomenal!
Absolutely unreal how his fingers flow around the fretboard.
Parfait..👌🚶♀️🎧

The glory of today's guitar. So proud to know Julian (in person). Breathtaking and exilharating performance for a crowd of happy few fellows

This song is going to end up being a timeless classic!. You are blessed Julian 🙏
Meraviglioso ogni volta la trasforma parte dalla base e non si sa dove arriva 👏👏👏
Was at the early show in Dublin, totally jawdropping performance.
Tak skal du have! 💙 ✨️
This is my favorite song by this amazing artist
The jimi hendrix of our generation!
We can’t wait to see Julian live (again)
Absolutely beautiful
He is incredible.
Sounds perfect.
3:10 thumb position on guitar! this cellist loves to see it
Absolutely! But it's totally unnecessary in this situation. I suspect he does it just because the rest is so easy for him :D
Amazing Julian - would have loved to be there in my hometown!
Legend.
