Every concert has been different. I saw him at Cadogan Hall in London and this wasn’t in his set. Even when he has played the same piece each night is different in improvisation. He’s truly a genius and is so generous musically, giving something different and unique to every audience.
I know only a handful of people are as rabid as me and see these less than half an hour after they drop, but these live recordings are gonna be some of the most longstanding guitar recordings in history.
I'm definitely one of the handful. Saw him front row two months ago and was absolutely blown away. I will always go to see him if he plays within 200 miles of my home.
Yeah, I’m very much in the club. I’m like a kid at Christmas with this stuff. Had front and centre seats at Cadogan Hall last week and took my 2 girls to see him in Brighton on Sunday. 😬
A lucky person is able to create a source of his own happiness that never will fall dry or be poisened. A source that is so rich that the owner can share in multitude without losing any of its strength nor quantity. Julian Lage is such a lucky bird and we are the happy people that participate in his relentless joy.
What a rare treat these have been. Solo guitar is so raw -no place to hide. Yet this unmatched tone and range is like something I've never heard. The melodies shine and the story telling is incredibly captivating. The involuntary smiles and groans from Lage are like we are discovering these gems together. The depth of exploration in the improvisation is not just virtuosic and awe inspiring, but totally enchanting. Only this personality could deliver such an honest and inspired performance -so free of ego, rules, and norms. Nearly each video in this series has brought me to tears. Bravo!
I feel so privileged to have been in the same room as Julian hearing him play live. I heard him in the Mackintosh Church in Glasgow last week. It was mesmerising. ❤
I think a lot of people came in to seeing JL after Worlds Fair especially in this country we’ve only been blessed with the trio (which is always special to witness) but these performances have brought a deeper value to that album and his devotion to improvisation. I’m so thankful I got to witness Gateshead and hope to see more projects in the future here in the UK ❤
Julian is so inspiring! I love it :). He plays with such abandon and rapture it's beautiful to listen and enjoy . You can see he is having a damn fine time too, which is very satisfying. I sure wouldn't get sick of playing if I was him. I'm not him though and I still love playing just as much :)
There's such great beauty, grace, satisfaction, enjoyment and entertainment listening to you Julian. Thanks you so much. AND, boy would if I could be inside your head when you're coming up with these harmonic, polyphonic lines.
I was there in Bristol! It was truly amazing. This man is a wizard ... by which I mean he can do things you simply can't believe. And he's such a nice guy! I waited for such a long time to see Julian play live. Wonderful! BTW I didn't realise you had som many cameras going! Fabulous recording!
this series of acoustic songs is/are the most wonderful playing I've ever heard/seen. thank you Julian for sharing these concerts with us. the songs are truly the shining point in these somewhat dark days. (literally dark winter days here in Oregon). I'm so excited when a new one appears. Come back to Portland!
I loved the whole performance in Bristol, it was wonderful to see you here :) And this piece in particular stuck in my head on the night. 🎸♥ Hope you come back again soon!
Julian is definitely gaining more and more fans. But I feel like he should way more well known outside of musician circles. I’m sure that’s not what’s important to him. But I tell everyone I know to listen to him.
I feel the same way. I suspect a small amount of Jam band fans are finding out about him after his sit in with Goose. However, the vast majority of fans tend to group mostly in the genres they are comfortable with. Otherwise he would at least be playing concert halls for Orchestras.
I think it’s interesting when he’s constantly referred to as a jazz guitarist. His original compositions cover all genres. And yet remain completely unique. This doesn’t sound too much like jazz to me. The only constant in his music is improvisation.
There's this legend that Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil in exchange for his guitar virtuosity. What did Julian Lage sell to get his other-worldly ability?
This series of live acoustic recordings has been the greatest treat - and completely unannounced. What a delight.
So right!
This is the only way.

Can only agree.Saw him in Belfast and Dublin. If I could would have gone to Glasgow & Manchester.
I know only a handful of people are as rabid as me and see these less than half an hour after they drop, but these live recordings are gonna be some of the most longstanding guitar recordings in history.
I think I’ve watched each one within 1 minute of them being posted ha. Groundbreaking stuff
I'm definitely one of the handful. Saw him front row two months ago and was absolutely blown away. I will always go to see him if he plays within 200 miles of my home.
I hope there will be more and more of us!!

@@grahamaldridge Did your daughters enjoy it?

Julian's solo guitar is a gift to humanity
Just brilliant from beginning to end. Such a fantastic artist.
What a gorgeous ten minutes filled with life, elan and love. Thank you, Julian.
Truly amazing player. It's like he channels something at every performance.
He's just being himself. That's enough of something to channel.

Another amazing performance. I love these solo acoustic videos so much. Thank you Julian for being such an inspiration.
Spectacular Americana. The soundtrack of my life.
A man with the whole world in the palm of his hand. Treating us all well with it too.

I was at this performance and loved it! Highly recommended, what a musician.

Kind of comforting to know even one of the best guitarists in the world has dust under those hard-to-reach places under the strings of his guitar!

No one better.

I was at the Bristol gig too! It was such a fantastic show, I was completely captivated.
I was in the audience watching this very performance. Inspired me to give up learning the guitar 😂
i found out he was playing bristol after he sold out the venue!! looks like it was amazing
Nooo don't give up! 😅
@ nah I was joking about the giving up guitar part. 😂
Absolutely brilliant so much talent

This is incredible. Perhaps listen to the recorded version....perfect, and then this...just mind blowing
Lovely playing Julian. Loved seeing your performance in LA a month ago with your trio
much appreciated ❤
So happy to see this one pop up...loved this song for a while and haven't seen as many live vids of it. Thank you!! Love where you go in these tunes.
Great video.
I loved the whole performance in Bristol, it was wonderful to see you here :) And this piece in particular stuck in my head on the night. 🎸♥ Hope you come back again soon!

Incredible!

He's too good. Jesus
Currently sat about 5 minutes away from Chalk. Looking forward to seeing you again after London, this time with my daughters. :-)
Wow!!
My favorite
I’d say God bless you Julian but it seems he already has.
The accoustic allows more subtility, range and colors than the electrics and he uses all of it... Amazing
Absolutely absolute. Imagine if you tuned that guitar!!! (I love the dissonance joke.)
❤

Voice leading is so strong in this one!!
Amazing music aside, I love that he always wears that over shirt or one similar to it
🥠🥠🥠
boundaries were merged
He should play Abraham Lincoln in a theater production somewhere...
Dramatic. I'm so glad to go to bed basking in the afterglow.

I just want the have the first Comment.
Also Julian did a good Job here.
But i got first comment.
