on 4K 60fps is pretty much the holy grail. You have the choice, resolution or FPS. 240 fps @1080p, 144 fps @ 1440p or 60 fps @ 2160p seems to roughly be the max you're ever going to get at current time. Hell, 2080TI can't consistently deliver these framerates in some games, so most likely your refreshing is limited by your GPU. For example, 2080TI in newest Assassins Creed, 203 fps @1080, 109 @ 1440 and 53 @ 2160. Just because the screen can process more doesn't mean the GPU is sufficient to push it all. But yeah, a 60 hertz 1080p display is kind of a waste.
@@TheSRBgamer63 Since monitor sizes are standardized, for most people it works like S, M, L, XL t-shirt sizes even if they don't know the equivalent metric size. For TVs the measurements are displayed in both units though since they're much larger and people want to actually know if they'll fit.
This is why I stick to good 1080p 60Hz panels! As Progster0192 said, "My PC is bottlenecked by my bank account." @@samdickinson8212 Yeah I bought it too but ended up returning it because it just looked like a 1080p monitor. 32" of 1440p gives you the same pixel density as a 1080p. I had a 25" 1440p and as soon is i plugged the 32" I immediately thought "this doesn't look 1400p"
My old laptop screen and my backup screen for my server have that resolution. I hate it because some professional/productivity applications are just plain unusable on those screens. 30fps is one of two standards for video framerates. 60, 120, and 240Hz or fps video is really made for slow-mo or that TruMotion bullshit. 60fps is becoming more common as a regular-speed framerate, but it looks weird and kind of stupid, plus it requires twice the data and it's not worth that.

One of the single greatest upgrades I ever did, before even building a new rig this year, was buying a 1MS 144HZ monitor last year. It single handedly changed my PC and was damn near like building a new one by itself. However, as you said, It has indeed ruined all other panels for me. After having helped build a friends new computer, seeing a game I'm very familiar with for testing on screen at 59.9HZ was... aggravating and shocking. I almost had a moment where I thought he was losing frames but noticed he was holding steady at ~200FPS in testing. It's not a gimmick, this shit changes the way you see things for sure.
I also "upgraded" to a 144hz 1ms Asus VG248qe last black Thursday. It hasn't ruined low fps gaming for me, I still use a Fire HD8 for most of my internet usage. 480p 30fps UA-cam all the time, maybe 360p, whatever. Add in that I still LOVE my PS3, and Resistance Fall of Man, my 2nd game had a noticably low frame rate, and low FPS (20-30) is what I'm use to, also Borderlands on a HD 3000 Laptop, Lost Planet 2 on a Pentium D 840, 20fps is fine. 144hz is nice, but only when it drops below 15fps does it actually become a problem for me. Also trying to play mobile games at 5fps on my phone... And I say "upgraded" because even after I finally got the colors to be "good enough" on the monitor, it still can't come any where near the "true black" levels on my PlayStation 3D Display, which I have retired exclusively for Simul-view games as it is near 20,000 hours usage. Movies were so good, now I have trouble focusing on anything other than the Backlight Bleed, even with backlight set to 0.

I have a cheap 1080p monitor and the ghosting is pretty bad. Another issue with it is that it's not very sharp. Just because a panel has X resolution doesn't mean it's going to be just as sharp as higher-grade monitors. I'm planning on replacing my video card soon, and my monitor will be the very next upgrade I do, to a decent-quality 1440p display (because I don't want my GTX 960 trying to push a 1440p display!).
The concept of sharpness does not exist on PC monitors, even a very old 1024x768 LCD monitor can be as sharp as a 4K monitor. Ghosting sure, it can be horrible on some monitors, but sharpness is never a problem on monitors using digital signals, worry about sharpness if you're using an old CRT monitor or you are using VGA as your source of signal where phase and clock do matter and make the picture look blurry.
if digital output is blurry it could also mean you've turned on GPU scaling. This feature is for displaying virtual resolution only, there's no need to enable this.
if videos look blurry, same thing is happening; you have to make sure it's NOT the scaler is to blame, because ALL video player do scaling as well. Some renderer like MadVR did give you option to change this.
Thanks for the input, guys. I've tried to mess with ClearType settings and stuff, but I had never found a solution, and wasn't able to dig anything up online, so I just assumed it was because my monitor is shit. I'll try your recommendations this weekend!
@@honeymanod in most cases, 1 single 2080TI in a 16x slot can push and maintain 60-90 fps at 4K. so that's 500 to 800 million pixels processed per second (1440p @ 144mhz is near the top range of that.) So I would look at comparison sites. Considering the 2080TI is actually almost exactly double as good (97 vs 196 bench) as the 1070 (non TI) you are probably capped at around 70-80 FPS on 1440p. I agree with "once you experience 144hz you cannot go back" you are ruined forever.
This is why I stick to good 1080p 60Hz panels! As Progster0192 said, "My PC is bottlenecked by my bank account." I might some day splurge on a 1080p high refresh rate monitor, but I do not plan on going 1440p or higher until the relative prices come down to 1080p levels. @@samdickinson8212 Yeah I bought it too but ended up returning it because it just looked like a 1080p monitor.

@@Trainboy1EJR I didn't say it has ruined low FPS gaming, I simply stated that when it comes to Monitor performance on a modern PC, it has ruined it. I clearly notice the difference now with high fidelity gaming and the way my UI/OS moves and reacts.

4: I actually hate CoD? Those videos are OLD ass parodies making fun of CoD.
5: I'm fucking 31 so yeah, I've been gaming and enjoying games for a long ass time.
6: I literally work this field with computers, my guy and have for 6 years along with IT.
Can you... like, find a bridge and get your name in the papers?
You clearly have Zero idea as to what you're fucking talking about when it comes to tech and are attempting to cause problems.
Changing from a 22" 59.9Hz display over to my MSI Optix at 144hz and 1ms Response WAS a huge upgrade for me and really did change thing for my gaming experience on my PC. Further changing out my previous 8350/1070 rig to a 2700X and 2070 with 32 gigs 3200Mhz DDR4 Gskill was a stupid upgrade from that and coupled with the current MSI screens, does a fantastic job of making things butter smooth in Metro and Warframe with the Frames locked at a matching 144.
At this point you're clearly either a troll attempting to get a rise out of someone for some pathetic reason or you're actually mentally disabled.
Have a good one.
P.s.
You owe me a left Kidney.
Jay FYI even in Europe and the UK Monitors and TV's are measured in inches. also why don't you have a link to that 34" monitor you are raving about?
Also wheel sizes for cars.
Jay was educating you about the Reason to buy a high refresh rate monitor. I think Jay bought that monitor for personal use and was not sponsored by LG. That's why you do not see a link about where to find it.
The tools used in airplane maintenance in (western) Europe are in inches (instead of millimeters). Probably unlike the tools for Jay's Camaro.
@Cerus98 Buildings probably only in the UK. Here in the Netherlands houses are advertised in square meters and building materials are the same sizes but described in metric.
This one 34GK950F and the other one he mentioned is the Gsync model 34GK950G.
Props on your channel. You actually explain things pretty well. Even though i learnt this alittle while ago, as a video editor i appreciate your videos. I doesnt seem like your over reading from something. Your kind of actually just speaking... well.... which not many people just do. goodjob dude.
Your screen probaly has a non standard subpixel layout. You need to calibrate ClearType.
Thanks for the input, guys. I've tried to mess with ClearType settings and stuff, but I had never found a solution, and wasn't able to dig anything up online, so I just assumed it was because my monitor is shit. I'll try your recommendations this weekend!
The monitor also has the most RGB
That was a good recommendation to build your pc to the specs of your monitor. Makes sense...
by the way, screen sizes for monitors are in inch worldwide. No one uses centimeters for screen size.
It would have been great if you had included the ranges of GPUs that would process the different monitors well.
Ya, I don't think my 1070 could push 21:9 1440p past 60 FPS anyways. So I think I might stick with an LG-34UC88 for half the price? Thoughts?
@@honeymanod in most cases, 1 single 2080TI in a 16x slot can push and maintain 60-90 fps at 4K. so that's 500 to 800 million pixels processed per second (1440p @ 144mhz is near the top range of that.) So I would look at comparison sites. Considering the 2080TI is actually almost exactly double as good (97 vs 196 bench) as the 1070 (non TI) you are probably capped at around 70-80 FPS on 1440p. So your conclusion seems correct. Your current graphics card can't consistently achieve 144 fps @ 1440p and I'd rather be steady at 60 than swing between 60 and 90 the entire time on a 144 hertz screen.
that depends on the monitor... resolution and video game, google gaming bench marks...
yo that room he is in is a goldmine
Let's break in lol😂
Cries in broke while my computer is hooked up to an old TV
Can totally agree to this. I spent $1000+ on a PC build but i was still using a 24inch monitor (60hz, 5ms and VA panel type I think) I decided to spend on a new 27” 1440p resolution 144hz 1ms IPS panel with 131% sRGB monitor and it’s life changing. I can’t believe I just decided to buy a new one just now. I had to spend a little more because I want great colors and IPS for my design work but it’s worth it!
8:00, “you computer might be...” and I got an add starting out with “pegi 18”, that cracked me up just wanted to share it, have a nice day
me, who uses a TV for PC screen: yes you're right Jay
hah thought i was the only one
I'm using a TV also. I have a RTX 2060. Dang, I need a monitor sooooo bad.
Your monitor can only see you in 30 fps
02:40 - just gold hahahahahahaha Honestly this is just my favourite tech-related channel that also provides laughs and great info
so many monitors so little time
Caitlyn approves
why wouldnt you put these monitors in the description jay
me: *watches this in 4k*
my old lcd tv: *idk what to do with this:
I've been researching monitors as I've been looking to upgrade my panel. This video has been helpful in explaining the specs and marketing terms involved. Thanks Jay
My PC is bottlenecked by my girlfriend...
get a new girlfriend only bottlenecks your stupidity
Or you can harvest her
Will easily pay off for a 2080ti build
_body for sale! $1200 or tradeable for a rtx 2080ti_
imagine having a girlfriend😂😂...😑...😕...☹🥺
My PC is my girlfriend.
Its weird but we use inches in EU for monitors and TV's so no problem. Everything else metric.
Amazing info on response time that was confusing for me but you made it sound so simple. Thanks bro 🙏🏼
Jay, I can see in ur eyes keen of learning thing and brain storming teacher inside of u! Humbleness & fun combined keep it up!
We (Europeans) use inches for monitors too.
Confirmed
Any reason why? I'm in the U.S and really wishing we could start using real measurements.
DRwarnclif probably because tv was first widely available in America and the UK. Thus the standard for measurements was imperial.

@@GoldBold563 In Burgerland, it would be too expensive and costly to change at a time like this. Most likely several billion USD. It isn't worth it.
G-Sync and Freesync only work when the PC's frame rate is below the monitor's refresh rate, not above.
Shootin' Bruin wrong
@@satanicunicorngod8821 care to explain then why the upper range of adaptive refresh rate monitors always matches the refresh rate of the display?
You know gsync and freesync are used for getting rid of screen tear right I use freesync and run 100 FPS on. 60 hz monitor and it works just fine
And some games it unlocked at 60 FPS

Huh, I just bought that monitor. Good to know I chose well.
I remember 10 years ago when Skunkworks V1 was built. You had 60hz monitors. Look how you've grown. Jay's all growled up now.
