How to derestrict Yamaha FZ6R

  • hi guys, this video is a tutorial on how to derestrict a Yamaha Fz6r. Fz6r generally comes restricted for L and P platers also knows as LAMS approved. but once you have your full license you can have the restriction removed to unlock the full power of that 4 cylinder 600cc engine.

      Was just going too say how much was that because it looks the exact same and could have just cut the leg off. Did the throttle body not open all the way before? Did you notice it opens fully with the new part?

    Good to see someone having a go and learning to work on their bike themselves but one bit of advice..... Don’t use power tools on security torx bolts like on the throttle cable plate. I cringed and yelled no at the screen, quickest way to strip the heads of them out. A little 1/4 drive ratchet is perfect for them.

    Did mine today and bought it from the same supplier. All I can say is farrrrrrrrrk me!!! The difference after riding restricted is amazing!! The way it is designed! Incredible. Thanks very much for the video and link. It was ok to ride before, but it is a GREAT bike to ride now. 🙌

      Rhys Hiscox I was thinking of doing this. So it is worth it? My bike seemed fast till I was used to it and I was curious if it would give me that oh shit feeling again lol.

      @@MikeDMays I believe it will give it back. Like I mentioned, it was ok to ride before. Now it's great to ride. I recommend doing it. It really did feel like a shame to have it tamed as it was. The high end power now really pulls.

      @@MikeDMays and for the cost of the throttle plate.. Best mod you could do to increase the fun. 😊 👌 That's if you're in Australia and it's still restricted. You'll tell by the minimal throttle twist.

      @JuicyDeucey88 if by title you mean registration papers, no I don't believe it does, not that I've seen. It's up to the police to make that connection and be aware of LAMS approved bikes.

    Thanks for the great video. I have an XJ6 with the same restriction plate. I was suggested to cut the long piece on the stock plate as others were selling the de-restrictor plate for $100. I will be getting on to your guy right away!

      I am not sure on 2009 sorry. I have a 2012 XJ6N and the restriction plate is the same. Have a look on your bike near the trottle body and see if the plate looks the same i.e. the throttle is stopped from turning at only about 40% and the plate has the same holes for the screws and a small hole for the pin. Mine has T25 tamper proof screws. Btw the power is always there but the stock plate on a learner version of the bike stops the throttle from opening all the way to use all that power. This derestrictor plate doesn't have that extra piece of metal that stops the throttle so you can turn all the way and use the bikes available power.

      hey mate. yeah as long as your bike is Lams restricted. best thing would be to look at the plate to see if you have the same one. if you have the same restriction, then you are in luck :)

      @@markwood9387 from what I gather... the plate is the only thing that stands in the way of it being 100% derestricted. The ecu however has been retuned for a more linear and shorter rev range than the 03-05 r6 (the engine it came from). So practically with a tune and a few mods it would practically be very similar to the r6 (older model, obviously)

      No its not mate. It's designed for that power, but just locked due to government regulations for L plates approved.

    I also have the European version, the XJ-6. It is 2011 and I honestly don't know if mine has the restrictor...

      hi mate, no i don't have any measurements. but i could feel about 60% more power. the increase in power is amazing before de-restricting it felt like i was riding a 250, which is what the restriction is supposed to do anyway.

      MR because they are expensive and hard to find. If you need to sell your bike again the new buyer might need it again.

      Sorry mate, the Seller had stopped selling them now. At this point you can just buy a small cheap metal saw and cut that little part off to release the full throttle

    I just saw your video. I was trying to get the information that you supposedly left about the restricted plate. You said that you had information on where to buy them.       Hi mate, i used to have that info of the ebay seller. But seems like he is no longer selling it. If you can't find it anywhere then try just cutting off the little notch with a saw and you should be good to go.

      It's no longer being sold mate. One thing you can do is that you can cut off the little knob on the bottom so throttle can turn all the way.

      Hi mate, no i gave the other plate when i sold the bike and unfortunately the ebay seller has stopped selling them. You can just cut the notch off and you'll be able to unlock it.

    R6 motor has different cams than the FZ6... Different sprocket, etc...

    I cant beat 750cc on my 2012 FZ6R i had restrictor removed also i can ride wheelies now in 2gear for longer than cops let me! Lol Before power was kinda dog on bottom & good on top so i was just chase them out! Now foot on back break cause DON'T RUN OUT POWER ANY MORE! Right robinkhaira1 its a Beast now!       Naa mate, last i checked the seller is no longer selling them, only solution now is to cut the little notch with a saw.

    Throttle body doesn’t affect gearing rpm and tuning. The engine itself If still detuned. Informative video however please fact correct

      I never implied that tuning is changed mate. It's simple opens up your throttle to full and lets your bike to go to higher RPM. Please watch the video carefully before leaving such comments. Have a good one

      I don't think so. The restrictions are for different levels of drivers' licenses in other countries (think of license grades in Gran Turismo). The US only restricts based upon emission standards, not the class of drivers license. And even then, emissions standards for motorcycles in the US are pretty lax except for the necessary catalytic converters (and in California, a charcoal canister for fuel vapor).

    Is this engine the same as on r6? And has anyone done this on a '06 r6/fz06?

      IT has the same engine as a 2004-2008 R6 but detuned. The original FZ6 had 78ps and then they de-restricted it for the S2 model with 98ps. This one the FZ6R (or the XJ6 diversion here in Europe) is restricted again to make it emissions and A2 compliant. You may gain some power. but not the full 98ps since the rev-limiter is at 12K and the R6 and FZ6 S2 rev to 14K

      That's a European restriction. The bike went from 34 to 78 hp.

      well it unlocks the power, from factory bikes comes with that restrictor to make it learner approved. but if you remove the restriction then it unlocks the full power.

    Well I immediately went to the garage after I seen the video remove the fairing of the motorcycle just to find out that is being cut off already . that's why this bike is fast I took a picture of it but I don't know how to upload it but yeah its just been cut off nothing fancy

    JUST A HEADS UP. had an xj6 in the uk for 5 years unrestricted and it wont do 100kph in first gear, that's bullshit. its about 80kph (50mph)

      well your bike is restricted at 250cc, by doing this you're essentially unlocking 350 CC's more.

      is this the case with all lams bikes over 250cc? i had a v-star650 that had been derestricted and got it to 180kms and felt like it would have gone faster if i let it.

      yeah if your engine is bigger than 250 and its lams approved, then it would have a restrictor on it, i heard some kawasakis have electronic restrictor, which can only be removed by dealers and they charge you a kidney for it.

    hey dude,.. you wasted money on that,.. all you had to do was take the old one off and cut it like i did,. i cut the leg off and that was it, saved my money

      i know i could have done that mate, but i wanted to keep the original one because i am going to sell my bike, i always keep changing my vehicles. so i wanted to keep it in case the buyer wanted a LAMS approved bike so they can change it. and restrictors are very rare to come by.

      not a slow bike bud, its cuz people with L or P plates can't ride this bike without restrictor, i ll give them the original part with the bike, its up to them whether they want to install it or not. you can buy derestrictor easily but very hard to find the restrictors again.

      @@robinkhaira1 Ah yes, that could hold you up a bit. In that case I'd mend it using jb weld or epoxy. Also you could take it to a local muffler shop and they'll usually weld just about anything you want for a few $. Hope that helps someone, cheer's.

    Hi, is it legal to derestrict your bike here in NSW Australia? Because my rego paper says 400cc now if I derestrict it then the bike won’t comply with how it’s registered with RMS

      I don't know about Aussie Law's, but I do know that if you did this to your bike, you should be legal still. You aren't changing the cc's of the bike, just de'restricting the throttle so you get more turn at the handle thus giving you full throttle of the 400 cc bike. Easy peasy, legal eagle.

      L Kaan it’s a 600cc bike the rego paper reads 400cc due to the restrictor I assume. If derestricted it’ll then be full power 600cc.

      @@FuriousRider99 Here's the thing, it was always using the full power of the engine, the resistor just stops the throttle from opening completely, thus keeping you from reaching the potential max speed of the engine. I have trimmed them down before and I know first-hand that there is NO power difference, only a max top speed difference. My bike will hit 160+ mph now and before it'd only hit about 140mph. Take off speed and torque remain the same. If the title says 400 but the bike is 600, something is off I'd say. My title reads correct and it also had the restrictor.

      @@lmcclellan Not true, The majority of the power is in the higher RPMs the restrictor stops you from entering said RPMs therefor you are not using the full power of the bike just the low end power.

      @@multitrikz3240 put it in neutral and see if you can red line it, if so you're getting full power. Mine was restricted and could red line, but wouldn't hit top end speed. Now it hits top end speed.
