I usually just make 2 green lines in the notepad, one extremely high value and one extremely low value. Then when i want to place a green line with a value outside of the editors limits i just copy the high one and scale down the slider velocity (because for some reason it does accept higher values when the previous value was even higher). Still inneficient tho
The reason for the limited sv multiplier in the editor might be because of how they are first introduced. they actually used to multiply the bpm. And since they act like that, using sv multipliers other than 0.5x (Half sv), 1x (Normal sv), and 2x (double sv) will make the slider tick sounds really off and thus, 1.5x sv isn't really possible. This is not fixed until the .osu version 8 is released back in mid 2010
Nice video! I'm really glad that you are putting out sop many tutorials for people to watch. You have inspired me to make my own map so keep up the good work!
Maybe a properties panel for the selected object/s where you can change hitsounds, SVs, and anything else that shouldn't be changed by a new greenline? It could probably replace the right-side buttons since Grid Snap, Distance Snap, and Locking Notes are going to be moved to the left side (see teaser on osu!next tumblr), and adding Whistles, Finishes, and Claps are going to be in the properties panel. Not sure about the New Combo button tho lol
I would definitely like per-object everything, I was thinking just separate physical length from time length. so it traverses the whole slider instead of cutting off at the nearest tick before the end (which is annoying) and you specify a timeline length which won't be changed even as you adjust the object. having made some stupid maps with notepad tricks, i find lots of other things frustrating too, especially being forced into certain levels of precision (.1 distance snap, 1 degree, 1 osupixel, 1ms) like I get 1 pixel and 1ms but it shouldn't round until I am done, as repeatedly rotating precise patterns will distort them slightly each time, and 1 degree doesn't allow you to line up with any shape you want
Hi! I was wondering if you could do a video on the logistics of overlaps. Reasons they're significant, why people use them, and how not to make them look ugly (though that last part is pretty subjective, I realize).
I've never even used the sampleset dropdown thing in the editor, and I've been trying to map since I first started osu! 4 years ago... i guess im a dumdum
i understand u might have wanted to refer to the limitations of the editor currently, but on that slider u wanted a 0.1,couldnt u have just made a longer slider on the lowest sv available(or some weird rrtyui/hollowwings slider to cover the timing section required on that part) without switching mode in song setup?
maybe your maps are a bit mistimed? maybe your placement is unintuitive or you place objects at wrong times, so it's hard to play No one can know without actually seeing your maps
ua-cam.com/video/J4OKPHZzJ1k/v-deo.html Ok this even confused me, and I've done this a few times already. Easier solution: Make a new difficulty in the mania mode, then place the sv change, copy it and paste it into the main diff.
While I agree that slider ticks should be consistent with the beat, to my experience you don't read slider velocity off of them, it's impractical. While reading you passively look at a slider, seeing mostly its shape. To analyse the speed from slider ticks, you'd have to actively locate them, and track the distance from the slider start to the first slider tick, comparing it to the tick rate on what you've seen earlier in the map, which isn't very practical while playing.
In your example at 8:03 you can't see most of the sliderticks outside of the editor. You can't see any sliderticks that overlap with the sliderhead or slidertail in gameplay.
an SV changing dropdown for every object would not be great it would be annoying. there's nothing wrong with the green line system, we're so used to it. all we have to do is make it already part of the UI so we don't have to open it up every time we want to make a change. and we need better ways of moving lines around. the most annoying part about the green lines is having to open up the box every single time, if we remove that things will be a lot more convenient and of course removing the SV limits in the editor
I just place 0.10x and 10.0x sections at the very end of my maps and copy paste them when convenient... Not really much work to do. Also, I just use -100000000 and -1 for 0.1x and 10.0x
Come to *taiko mapping*
We have:
0.1x sv
4.0x sv

stay in mania, they have 0.01 (i never knew that before now...)

They should also make it easier to make streams that slowly change spacing, so you dont need to do it completely manually.
would be cool, though that's rarely a concern compared to green lines lol
You could use distance snap editing but yeah still to long

FLarezi Osu! Thank u for the time you have saved me
so that's why there was so many vomit lines on every map i look at through the editor
*cough* storyboard editor *cough*
i prefer to believe it doesn't exist
i was thinking about asking you to make a video on the storyboard editor. guess not?
Speaking of storyboards, is there any official reason as to why coords can't be floats?
it's an atrocity. I really hope it's fixed in the new client, whatever fixed means.
ppy did confirm a complete rework of the editor, expect alot of changes in 2018 to the editor
osu!lazer is likely to include a new editor, maybe it's good for some experienced mappers to have some discussions about it with the developers :)
if it ever comes out, that is
@@mystic5008 i like how this comment didn't aged at all xd

can you cover star rating ? what makes it higher, what makes it lower and everything around it ?
larger jumps = bigger star rating
Yeah, obly jumps are hard
jeder basically covered it all gg
:/ you know more about maping then me so i need to believe you, thanks
Check out the 'spread' video.
I never clicked off an ecchi anime so quickly
izikblu stop!
i will allow you to continue
Am I the only one that, not even playing the game lately, watches every one of Pishi's videos? Damn, I didn't even download it in this PC.
Nice video! I'm really glad that you are putting out sop many tutorials for people to watch. You have inspired me to make my own map so keep up the good work!
This has to be the most annoying aspect of the editor indeed. Hopefully this will change with osu laser.
Any plans to do some sort of podcast with mappers like happystick's doing with players for his improvement month?
not really. ztrot's got that covered i think, and i'm on there fairly often already lol
we need more pishi asmr

zauberkugel is one of your best map in my opinion so I think it was worth it ^^
the new update changed slider velocities in a good way! :)
thanks to this i realized why i have so less motivation in mapping anymore

" Have you ever seen an Evening map ? "
You shoulda added Billain - Boogie in the examples
finally, i got the answer for most of technical maps >2x sv

I agree with you, you should try open the editor for the mania maps that is made by evening.
It should also show angles between consecutive objects. No more unpolished maps!
Also a tool that makes blankets easier to make?
Now i see that i have messed up choosing a camellia song as the first song i ever tried to seriously map and rank (didnt rank it btw)
yay a new pishi video
congrats 10k

Holy shit he's mapping Zauberkugel!!! \o/
The timeline is now in Lazer

:^)
0.1 = Allowed modes
ohhhh
thanks for the information.
Never tried to go into the map editor.
Feels revolted by some green line shit.
I wish you could make section of custom combos with inhereted points, just like hitsound samples :^)
Honestly, what we need, is a programmer who can make an external editing program, making all the issues like this, easier to fix.
well lazer is open source, so it wouldn't need to be external
Once lazer editor comes out and it's better, I might just edit exclusively on it, though there'll still be inconveniences
Creating beatmaps sure does look pretty hard...
Dude, what about those green lines in Ascension to Heaven?
It's like every note in kiai there has its own green line
that's keysounding
also give us a proper scaled coordinates system, with 0 at the middle of the screen please
i understand u might have wanted to refer to the limitations of the editor currently, but on that slider u wanted a 0.1,couldnt u have just made a longer slider on the lowest sv available(or some weird rrtyui/hollowwings slider to cover the timing section required on that part) without switching mode in song setup?
Wow, didn't know about that Taiko setting. I thought everyone uses notepad for these things.
Pishifat,
Solving mappers' problems after realising we all sucked
Creating a tech map is stressful , you need to have a lot of experiments with sliders
Mapping is going to God Mode
Why do I get super high UR when I play my maps?
maybe your maps are a bit mistimed? maybe your placement is unintuitive or you place objects at wrong times, so it's hard to play
No one can know without actually seeing your maps
Slider velocity changes still confuse me...
How do I remove a green line, I can't figure out. I might have missed it in this video it's just too long to rewatch.
maybe this is a sign that I shouldn't map weird techno songs so i can actually finish a map for once :p
Can you make a video about yellow lines?
bro i just wanna know how to place them wtf
not even 255 nacht gameplay
hitsounds and kiai should be part of the storyboard tab and not controlled by greenlines tbh
So, i started osu 3 days ago...how do I change the color of my dots?
AweProd22 oh shit youre right there isnt any dots in this game shiiiiiit

Ok this even confused me, and I've done this a few times already.
Easier solution: Make a new difficulty in the mania mode, then place the sv change, copy it and paste it into the main diff.
how do you feel about making sloder ticks position on the slider body adjustable?
I dont see too much purpose to it since it's generally just ignored and a lot of skins either have empty hitsounds or textures for them if not both.
While I agree that slider ticks should be consistent with the beat, to my experience you don't read slider velocity off of them, it's impractical.

I hate sliders with quiet ends.
Why? is it because it feels weird
@@Deastrisk I like the confirmation noise.

can uhhhhhhh about mapping skin?
At least, you have an editor, not like in CtB :>
Rougoku going by this, only std and mania got their own editor. But overall, there's nothing bad using the std overlay for ctb mapping.
What is osu!lazer I've never heard of it
if you're serious, it's the new open source client for osu

qwerzy it's a meme
if the editer gets to easy then there might be more shit maps made by people that dont know what they are doing
i mean... that'll happen no matter what lol
rip
Well, it doesn't matter how many shitmaps are made, If a map is (objectively) bad Its not going to get ranked
I hope.
that's what loved for is right hahahaha :(
Hey don't worry about shitmaps, they have to go through a qualifying system first before they can actually matter a lot to most people :)
