I've owned this game since it came out. Never beat it. Within the last week, I picked it up (didn't start a fresh save), and was just roaming around. I built up 1800 Geo and lost on the way back to the Soul Master (by far the farthest I've ever gotten in this game and THEE MOST GEO I'VE EVER HAD BY FAR). I was fed up, turned the game off. But then I decided to fire up the game the next day. Refreshed, I said screw the Geo, play to survive. I started playing a LOT slower and meticulously and that led to me surviving a lot more and keeping my Geo. So within half a week of me firing this game back up, I am steady progressing inch by inch. This game is badass. THE MOST IMPORTANT LESSON FOR ME IS TO JUST STEP AWAY WHEN FRUSTRATED, THEN COME BACK. This has led to all my progression. I really like this game. And I hope to 100% it before Silksong.
This is really good advice. Getting past how frustrating this game can be at times is such a barrier to being able to fully enjoy it. Glad you were able to take a break and come back again as it is well worth it! Good luck on your completion 👌
This will be the 4th time I picked it up.. my last game I was 14 hours into it and I couldn’t get pass a particular boss.. I put it down and haven’t picked it up in over a year.. maybe this time I’ll be able to beat it
@@bodacious117the most important tip i can really give you when you are stuck on a boss, any boss is: try every possible way you can think of to dodge every attack and pick the one that is most comfortable. Also dont just try to heal whenever, evaluate healing opportunities and of course dont sit on full soul, cast spells a lot. EXPLORE! You can get nail upgrades, spell upgrades, more charms and much more stuff by exploring, so try to explore about 90% of the area before fighting the boss, unless of course you come across an obstacle you cannot currently surpass like a spot that requires the wall jump and you dont have it for example. Map markers can help to mark spots to return to as well.
@@innergenichiro thanks.. I’m Learning to love hollow knight cause I really wanna learn.. I’m taking my time more and it’s paying off.. I love a good game with a great story and lore to it.. and metroidvanias are one of my favorite genres so I’m hoping once u finally beat it it’ll become one of my all time favorites
@@bodacious117 hollow knight is my first metroidvania, i first played it because i heard it takes inspiration from dark souls and it shows quite a bit, but its quickly become my favourite game ever, the week i bought it i played 50 hours. In one week! My little brother played just as much and we only have 1 tv and 1 console, sooo it has been overheating constantly for the past 2 weeks 😂
your description about dropping the game for a while was completely right. Bought the game when I was 12, got frustrated and quit, but came back now 6 years later and am really loving it. Thanks for this.
That opening was a very accurate representation of my experience. I've decided to give Hollow Knight a 4th shot, but this time with some help from videos like this to get me started so I don't just get lost and quit in a few hours again.
There are definitely early roadblocks in Hollow Knight, it's so worth it once you get into it but can be very difficult to get to that point. I hope you do stick with it, this game is amazing when you give it the change to be
I keep coming back to hollow knight, I love the exploration, the environment, the music, getting lost in the world. While I've never advocated for easy mode in a game before but I'd love to see it in hollow knight. I'm not talking about everything in the game, I get that the devs have tailored a lot of the true ending and DLC to higher skill players, what I'd like to see is just a slight adjustment to how brutal the difficulty spikes are early on to keep people from putting the game down. All the content creators for this game I can find, are posting hitless and speed runs, while most of my friends list has never beaten the game. I want more people to be able to pickup this game and the next one, but if the devs keep tailoring difficulty towards the content creators and die hard high skill fans, it comes at the expense of a larger community.
Thank you! Glad you found it helpful - The thumbnail - I used a sprite sheet to grab the Vessel holding the map and the rest is simply photoshop masking etc, nothing super fancy
I almost never used magic and focused on Nail charms for my first finish playthrough. When I looked at magic and nail damage on the wiki during my second playthrough, I felt like such a silly fool. Shaman Stone for life. Followed by Flukenest
Tip 8, play on PC. It took me over 30 tries to beat 3 of the hardest challenges on the Switch, and I only managed to beat 1 of them, but got it on PC and beat all 3 in under 5 attempts. Look below to know what these were. Beating The Radiance Beating NKG Beating Trial of the Fool Still am yet to beat Pantheon of Hallownest on PC because... well... Pure Vessel is still the second hardest boss in the game, and being on PC didn't make it any easier.
I recently got the game and have already almost 10 hours in. I am currently in the fungus region and I still didn't lose any geo. I didn't know what would happen after my second death so I always took it slow and carefull and always got my shade back. Also I didn't know until later on what was pogoing, so I skipped some areas thinking I need some skill to get there. Later I learned about pogoing and I finally could go to places where I couldn't before.
I don't really know how to reply to this without coming across as a HK snob 🤣 If I'm honest, yes xD most of the filming for this video was incredibly painful, and very hard to make look convincing 😅
These tips are trivial. "it is normal to die cuz the game is hard"? And "the map will help you get around"? Really you wished you knew this? And all of this in a video riddled with crappy humor.
The scenario at the beginning was exactly what I did till I came back to it yesterday and discovered that the default controls were f'd up

It’s a surprisingly common thing! Glad you found your way back to the game and are enjoying it!
I think part of the reason I'm finding it less frustrating now is because I've played celeste. The floaty movement feels very natural now.
"Played for an hour, got lost, died 37 times and haven't been back in 4 months" they just hide city of tears too well in my experience 🤷♂️
It is very well hidden and out of the way to be fair
when i got into the city of tears the first time the game finally clicked for me, this game is masterpiece
Was the sloth in this video the picture of Young Hill? 😂

Hilarious

Cool video but why is there final boss footage in a “spoiler free video”?
Since the dude is in the opening cutscene, I thought he was fair game 😅

Ok, thanks!
I love this game so much

Trying not to get salty and panic in QG is a very advanced strategy that I haven't mastered yet either xD
