@@Justice1711 i haven't finished it yet, but i really think if you can't find the next place to go, just look it up, some may say that it ruins the experience, and that is partially true but, meh, it is better to not have a complete experience than to not have an experience overall, but try to look over and over for new things, because it is important that you find things by yourself
@@sunnerssnag Me: "Oh, I can hear him humming, he must be in this room- wait what's that black force thing?" *proceeds to walk up to it and try to pass it only to get hit into the lake and die* "Guess I'm not going that way then"
Yes, I can vouch for that. In my first playthrough, I wasted so much time by looking at incomplete parts of my map, thinking, "Oh, I forgot to go that way; I should explore that," and getting there only to find that I hadn't explored it because I didn't have the right abilities yet. It really does save headaches when you just mark those places instead. Even more importantly, it is a TERRIBLE time trying to remember things like, "Wait, where was that room that had that treasure I couldn't reach? I remember acid water... and some kind of stone wall... what area was that even in?" (Acid water and stone walls describes about half of the game areas.) I would also add, use pins for important locations that the map doesn't identify. For example, the grave where the Grey Mourner wants you to take a flower isn't marked... and you REALLY don't want to go wandering around with that flower any longer than you need to, trying to remember the exact location.
@@jimminslippysballs what? what secret area. ive been to resting ground slaying with a light nail (dunno if some people still dont have it) but thats it. tell me pls where.
cuz spells actually have an immediate impact, so at least u know you're doing sth worthwhile. Getting killed while healing makes u feel completely useless
@@StarrySkys and that's how i kill most of the hard bosses that everyone keeps talking about over and over. I still remember the very first time I killed the Mantis Lord took me only 5 tries, but not because I was able to figure out all the correct timings, but it was because i was spamming vengeful spirit whenever my nail can't reach, and descending dark whenever it charges at me. Needless to say i was left w/ a single mask when i killed it, and it was after i have gotten at least 3 additional health upgrades.
If you quit the game and rejoin, you will spawn at the last bench you rested at, along with all your geo and new map areas discovered. Great for quickly and safely escaping deep and difficult areas.
A tip that really helped me with some of the tougher boss fights: Just because the boss is moving quickly doesn’t mean you have to. It’s REALLY easy to panic, start trying to keep pace with many of the later bosses, but it’s also incredibly difficult to do so. It’s a lot better to learn when and how you NEED to move, and do just that. If there’s 50 projectiles on screen, you don’t need to avoid all of them, just the ones coming at you. Keep it easy, and be deliberate with your movement. Also, if you’re really struggling with a boss fight, make an attempt where you don’t try to damage the boss at all. Focus ENTIRELY on dodging. Start weaving in damage after you’ve started getting the feel and rhythm for how to avoid the bosses attacks. You’ll almost certainly die, but it’ll jumpstart your handle on the bosses moves, and it’s worth it.
@@gabtrg314 False knight can be tricky, but he also has a trick to him: he actually only has 1 phase. Let me explain: First, equip the Spell-boosting damage charm, I think it’s called something like Shaman Soul. With this equipped, you only need to get him staggered once. Then, dream nail him ONCE, and then pogo on the top of his body. This will reset his timer to stand up on his own. You can also get away with healing ONCE, and then pogo on top of his body (important: NOT his head. Deal enough damage and he’ll stand back up, we don’t want that). Repeat until you’re at full soul and masks. Then hit him so he stands back up. If you’re good, you can Wraith scream him as he jumps to the center, either do that or just immediately run to one end of the arena and spam Shade Souls. With the boosted spell damage, you should be able to deal enough damage to restagger him. Repeat the dream nail-pogo loop until full soul again and repeat. I’ve got it down to a science at this point, although I’m in the post game, but you can def get the handle of it. I believe in you!
@@mattfenner7824 thanks, also i think my problem is i tried beating failed champion, while underleveled, when i forced myself to beat him, i only had the cloak, the mantis claw, and the crystal heart, i didn't have double jump (or the monarch wings), and also for the longest time, i didn't know that desolate dive was an attacking move XD, also only had the 1st nail upgrade, So even though i got his abilities down, i was still underskilled considering this is my first playthrough, either way i appreciate the advice, and I'll try learning more on it, while also trying to have fun since it's my first time playing it, have a good day mate
Me with no patience in absolute and took like 4 hours to beat hornet's second phase and now I absolutely hate em, dodging my ass man that shit is impossible to do with like 145645342456 spikes in your screen :l
I know about most of the tips already, but when he said “everyone dies A LOT when they first start playing.” really helped me. I compare my gameplay to others and think “God, I suck...” but now that I think about it, that’s the worst and biggest mistake you can ever make when playing Hollow Knight. Everyone grows and gets better at their own pace, and everyone starts out with a certain amount of skill. Some might start out really good, but never get better. Others start out extremely trash, but get better over time, and eventually beat the people who started out really good. My point is, don’t compare your gameplay to someone else’s, and don’t compare the amount of times you die fighting a boss. Just play the game at the pace you’re comfortable with, and you’ll fall in love with it.
It’s a challenging game for sure, but if you’ve got experience with the Souls genre, it’s far less frustrating. You’ve already been programmed to learn move sets, tells, openings, and so forth. This makes boss fights more manageable. As for platforming, there are some brutal areas for sure. A weapon arts one comes to mind. Kinda felt like the platforming was a mini boss of sorts since the music changes. Haven’t gotten to “THE platforming hell section,” yet, but I know it exists. But anyways, it’s about precision and timing. My point being, keep at it. The great thing about games like this, Ori, pick a Souls game, is that absolutely everyone can beat it. I mean it. The whole “git gud” meme did get toxic, but it’s also true. You’ve got to figure it out for yourself. Mantis Lords are a fun battle, but once you figure it out you realize how telegraphed it really is. Same thing with.....Pontiff in DS 3 or Lynels in BOTW. The Ginso Tree in Ori is brutal, but once you figure it out you get to go for a nice swim. So, in closing, it’s okay to take a break. Chances are you’ve made progress, even though you keep dying. Maybe you made it to phase two and couldn’t get back to it this time. Maybe you finally made over the first set of spikes, but kept dying. The point being, you did make progress. Relax, take a few hours, maybe a couple of days, and start fresh. Games like this are meant to test your resolve. Why let developers win when they designed it for you to win?
Thank you so much! I just started and I am really bad. I am really really bad. Even more than other who didn’t play long. These kind of comments give me hope, bc I think that the game is beautiful and extremely interesting and I don’t wanna give up...
I mean, when ya think about it that way, it actually makes sense-- : 0 Although usually the second syllable is shorter, so my first thought was Jiji from Kiki's Delivery Service, but that works sjsvjshj--
it feels so good to find this part of the community. im a noobie and it was rly rly discouraging to see some of the community saying “just drop the game if you can’t defeat ____boss in _____ tries” but seriously some people have never played games like this before and all they need is more practice. ugh i cant even believe i took it to heart at first. in any event awesome video even to new fans 3 years later :))
I can't lie I would say I have played a lot of games on mobile but some computer games are difficult on another level and Hollow Knight is one of them. I still haven't beaten the game yet but I'm just slowly taking my time and clearing small parts of it at a time and it's relieving that people advise you to take your time
it was the same with me! I was so sad because I kept seeing comments saying to just leave the game and that if you struggled with ..... boss then there is no hope for the later ones. Its the first game like this I've played too and the art is sooo beautiful I really didnt want to give up and I'm glad I didnt! Im slowly getting through it and am really enjoying it despite the frustration of dying so many times :'3
I've only recently accepted that I'm a slow gamer, lol. I'm something like 60 hours of my first HK playthrough, and I'm still not done. I just think about it this way: the longer it takes me to beat a game, the better value it is, lol. I bought HK on sale for like, $8? $8 for 80 hours of entertainment is way better than $8 for only 20 hours of entertainment - the fast gamers saying to give up if you need 10+ tries to kill a boss don't understand getting value for your dollar, lol.
The most useful tip I can give: _For the love of god, PLEASE be patient during boss fights._ I understand. You might make a decent amount of progress on your first run; you might get to phase 2 or whatever. But then you die, so you think, "That wasn't too bad. Now I can rush through the first phase to get back to the second one quicker, right?" But no! That's a terrible thing to do. Don't ever think of anything as "easy", because in this game, chances are, they're definitely not, and you're just making yourself angry by continuing to fail at an "easy" boss. This tip is invaluable at every point in the game, but _especially_ with certain endgame bosses. _Keep calm and be patient._ If anyone reading this is new to Hollow Knight, I hope you enjoy the game just as much as I did! It may be difficult, but everything is worth it in the end, believe me. I have faith in you
I'm currently attempting Hornet's second boss fight and my main issue is panic jumping. I have issues, only with bosses, where I jump reflexively until I learn the patterns and it's something I really need to stop doing. But thanks for the tip anyways :3
This is actually really helpful! I went into hollow knight completely blind and didn't know anybody else whose played so I got discouraged. Deff going to give it another try
I had this breakdown three weeks ago when I gave up completely on the game because I was SO BAD that I just thought this game was too much for me. This week I've continued it and I'm so happy because I have advanced a lot in it. I think that boss fights depend on luck (kinda) because one day I'm super concentrated, keep dying and get exhausted and other day I come and beat the boss in the first try. Now I'm in the spider boss and I've kinda learn how to love boss fights :)))
A similar tip I wanted to add: watching is better than punching. Even if the Boss has 5 different attacks and you can only attack them during that one. You wait. You wait, until you can finally attack, don't try to rush to deal dmg. Chances to heal during a fight are often risky and sparse.
i dunno, i recently talked to him and he was talking about visiting a graveyard and then seeing a pair of eyes... how is that supposed to help me hahaha
One tip after about 20h of gameplay: Enjoy that your character is not becoming so much better like in other games, but that you as a player are becoming better. Many games nowadays are easy if you just grind enough weak enemies and level up, becoming basically immortal. In this game, the first boss will kill your upgraded character if you hand your controller to a friend for half a minute.
Yeah I realized that I should "git gud" if I want to 112% the game which I've done But for the life of me I still can't beat pantheon 5 mainly because of Markoth
@@Muhammed_English314 I get you, Markoth is difficult. Heck I can't even get passt Pantheon 3. I think I made it one time, but the combination of god tamer and grim gets me most of the time and I can't get the hang on grey prince Zote and Uumuu is just annoying and slys last phase is just too fast for my taste.
Just a quick tip for new people, whenever you get monarch wings, dont go immediately fight watcher knights. I personally would get a few nail upgrades and shade cloak if I was doing my first run.
I beat the other two dreamers before I even knew there were nail upgrades but I just couldn't get past the watcher knights. Then I discovered the nailsmith and maxed my nail and when I tried again, I blew right through them. So yes, upgrade your nail!
@@debpet6345 having descending dark is really helpful too. I think I was doing watcher knights on a run & had got caught a few times then got cornered between 2 & panic spammed d.dark & killed them with 1 hp left 😂
15:00 when i first played i thought the broken soul gauge was a lasting effect and you keep that permanently as sort of a "punishment" for dying. It's only after I died to hornet that I found the shade, and was so shocked when killing it repaired my soul meter.
Omg, yes. When i went to fight Hornet I passed by the Stag sign so many times without paying attention, I had to make this whole path every time from the nearest not-that-near-bench to the fight. I sure felt stupid when I found the Stag
My tip is that charms matter a lot in terms of gameplay. Find the playstyle that matches with your abilities the most and use the charms that help you the most in your playstyle. There are people who use more the nail than spells and vice-versa, people more focused in defense and healing, people more focused in offense and tanking/avoiding damage. When you progress the game, you are able to find items, abilities and charms that will help you develop your playstyle the most, so, explore the game. You will often find platforming challenges, embrace the challenge, and the game will reward you. Experimentation, trial and mistake are all part of the process
Something that I think is really important (and which I often do) is to adapt your charms to each boss. Some of them have gimmicks that may require specific charms to make the fight easier, like the broken vessel/lost kin who summon the balloon enemies which you can counter with the defender charm
Major advice for Hollow Knight I'm surprised no one mentioned as first: Please don't die before recovering your shade. Or you will lose ALL your collected Geo. I've lost 12000 Geo this way. Second: Play on headphones. Hollow Knight has astounding sound design that gives you subtle audio hints about secret areas.
Ehhhh at that point if you’re holding onto 12,000 geo you better be at end game and have bought out all the stores already. Otherwise it’s on you. But I think the most I’ve lost is maybe a couple hundred? But mostly because it was a situation where I didn’t care just cause I already bought everything I needed at the moment.
I almost lost 7 thousands of geo, because my shade spawned near of a annoying foe (the same that killed me in the first time). I hit my soul in the last moment.
My version of HK game combat: - Dodge. Seriously, just dodge. Heal when the battle's over. - Cast Descending Dark. Just Descending Dark. Those I-frames really help. - Pogo on everyone who doesn't counter back or jump.
There are breaches long enough to heal on several major bosses. Soul Tyrant has a huge one enough to heal more than 4 points. Killed him in 4 tries under-equipped once the patterns were obvious.
Spells make me lose. I don't use em ever. The best advice for combat is remain calm and move slow. Being fast almost always gets you hit and panic gets you hit a lot. Just stay steady and swing the nail and there's no boss you can't fight
I cant say it enough: dont feel shitty for having to google stuff sometimes. HK has so much content, enough for multiple playthroughs, and half the stuff is very well hidden. Youre not worse of a player for it. The experience is the most important, not how you got it.
I googled where Millibelle was (after she robbed me of my precious geo) and was not disappointed. I cherished that geo until I lost it 30 minutes later.
TRUE. In my first playthrough I literally had to google where is the False knight since I somehow missed transition leading to them and didnt want to farm 1800 geo for lantern lol
In my first playthrough I tried going through blind, but realized I just was not enjoying myself that much struggling to find things. The map is HUGE and knowing where to go was difficult for me since it takes me a while to learn maps. I ended up googling where a lot of things were, where to go, etc. And I still had a phenomenal time with the game, and it still became one of my all time favourites. People told me I basically spat in the face of Team Cherry for not enjoying a specific part of the game, but enjoying the hell out of literally everything else. That's normal. That's called having opinions. Nobody likes every part of any game. And its your experience, not anyone else's. You bought the game. So enjoy it how you want. You just have to choose whether to deal with it, or look online to make it easier for yourself.
One massive tip for boss fights is: Dont always try to heal. Some bosses are literally just too fast and will end up causing you more damage instead of healing that health. Quick focus is a great way to get around it, but sometimes dodging can lead to you defeating the boss instead of dying trying to heal.
@@Mike_Dubo The first Hornet fight was easy for me. I am Noob in metroidvania games, and I I had died a lot of times against the first boss. But when I finally arrive to the second zone and play vs Hornet, it took me just 3 tries. Soulmaster was my third boss, and took me 9 times. But the problem was, I only died 5 times in the first phase, and 1 time in the second phase because it took me by surprise. But the other 3 times that I died, were on the road to arrive to the boss. This get me frustrated. Ecah time you died, you had to go through a long way to arrive. And the wizards enemies were really annoying. I lost 1000 geos through the way. With Soulmaster you can heal yourself in a specific moment, and with Hornet too. The problem is when you are in panic and you try to heal yourself in a wrong time. But there weren't the most difficult. As I said, you could heal. Maybe the next bosses are faster
This was the very first game I got for my switch, a system I payed for with my own money, and this was the only game I had on there for a while. It. Was. Breathtaking. This game is a master piece, and my only real advice isn't really so helpful: Stop and look around often. Just take in the beautiful artwork of this game as you try to put together the somewhat confusing lore. This game is a test of skill at times, a test of patience, and an engrossing experience all around. It's one of my favorite games of all time, and not just for it's great gameplay. I could spend hours looking at the art and listening to the soundtrack. This game is teeming with life and passion and care from some very talented developers. I know I'm a little late to the party commenting here, but if you do happen to be reading this, I hope the game means as much to you as it does to me. Please enjoy every moment you have and every secret you discover. That's my advice.
I completely agree! Once I was about 1/2 way through this game, I began to call it that- a masterpiece. It is artistically/visually stunning, the music is perfect, the story is a grand tragedy and an existential commentary, and the gameplay is just next level. I have been a gamer since 1988. Hollow Knight is in my top 5 games of all time.
I quite agree with you, it was the beauty of the game that got me into playing it, even tho it's incredibly hard for me. May I offer you a suggestion? If you love embracing a masterpiece as you play it, you will love Ori and the Blind Forest, and his sequel, Ori and the Will of the Wisp! Ori graphisms are just as beautiful as Hollow Knight, and the soundrack is too of incredible quality! The story, while waaay more simple than Hollow Knight, is well made and touching. The gameplay, while way less difficult than Hollow Knight, will give you a sense of freedom very fun to play with. I wish you a beautiful day, stranger on the internet, and may your journey in theses wonderful worlds be full of the same love and passion that animed both of us while writing this, as well of the devs of thoses masterpieces!
A tip for any new players that just saw this video: Bosses usually repeat attack patterns if your struggling with a boss try to memorize its attack pattern.
@@CheeseBoat25I just kept dodging until there was an opening and attacked. I just beat her though and I probably got lucky she didn't spam the AOE attack.
@@CheeseBoat25 It's very probably too late but today I just beat the second hornet bossfight and here's my tips for the second bossfight (because I don't think there's much to the first tbh) 1)when you just dodged something by jumping and dashing, don't forget that you still have your double jump ready to dodge her throwing attack 2) if the spikes she places are getting to dense, don't try to get rid of them by breaking them one by one with the sword, just use a spell 3) you absolutely need to pogo her (hit down with the nail) at every chance you have, after every attack of hers 4) healing in this fight is tough, you can be sure of it pretty much only when she does her orb energy field attack and her throwing attack (if you're far enough) so it's better to use your soul for the downwards spell. This comes in handy in this fight as you dodge all of her attacks by jumping, making it so that she is always right beneath you, the perfect place to hit that spell 4) remember that, if you run out of dashes and double jumps (and wall jumping isn't an option) you can still stay in the air if you pogo her nail in her throwing attack or the spikes she places in the area.
here's a couple of tidbits about your shade. When you die without your shade, you lose all of your geo. When you don't have your shade, you can see if on the map (It'll be a pretty obvious, black shadowy thing with glowing white eyes. Your shadow gains health when you do, making it harder to kill but also easier if you upgrade your nail. Your shade learns when you do, meaning that when you learn a spell, so will your shade.
And if you use the charm that transform all your health masks into blue masks, you can kill it with one hit. (The blue masks don’t count to it’s health)
Someone may have already mentioned this, but my own piece of advice is this: when you get the Monarch Wings (double jump), it may be very useful and fun, but don't become _overreliant_ on it. Many times after I first unlocked it, I caught myself doing quick double-taps on the jump button and messing up my timing and judgement of distance on what were relatively easy platforming puzzles before. Don't be afraid to use a simple hop or a high-jump and save the double jump just in case you miss your landing.
I actually time my use of the double jump to help position myself better. For example, sometimes a quick double tap can move you horizontally without moving you vertically very much. It’s all situational.
For anyone who has monarch wings but hasn't beaten soul master - this helps a lot being able to double jump (yes it's absolutely doable to skip soul master & come back with some upgrades if you're having a tough time!)
You can basically fast travel to the last bench you were at by quitting to the menu and reentering the game. This is especially useful if you want to take a break from a difficult boss, but your shade spawns in the arena; you can enter the arena, focus entirely on defeating your shade, and then quit out of the boss fight by going to the menu.
@@luiz_carlos Same, I killed a lot of moss knights to get that lantern. Do you not actually NEED it? Would have been a pain to see without it, guess it's like Flash from Pokémon
I just bought it. I just happened to earn 1900 coins while exploring certain areas. I haven't beaten yet the boss that shoots lasers and the vampire-like boss that is surrounded with 4 globes.
@@somemong989 I didn't need the lantern at the very early game, but then it showed to be very useful. I also used the moss knights technique to farm geo.
Pressing the attack button repeatedly extends the duration on cyclone slash, making it hit up to seven times with 1.25x damage per hit. If an enemy is stationary or pinned aganst a wall, cyclone slash is the highest damaging nail attack and the fastest way to gather soul
Yeah I feel like every single youtuber/game guide has misled me on that. Literally EVERY single one of them says, "Oh, don't worry about geo later in the game, because it's easy to get everything--" no, it's really not.
@@Icerope-km9lu Once you get access to sell your artifacts, you'll gain a TON of geo. I just recently got to that point and gained something like 8000 geo and just went and bought pretty much everything that I hadn't already bought. I need to buy unbreakable strength and fix one of the other ones, but I still have like 4000 geo lol
This isn't a huge tip, but it's one I would've liked to have when I was starting out- You can't touch the acid, but you can swim in the water. Makes the City of Tears and Royal Waterways a little less terrifying when you realize falling isn't that bad. In most spots anyway
But it should also be importat to mention is while you are in the water you can´t attack and therefore are a bit more prone to get damage if you dont get out quickly.
Oh dude, it could have been worse. There's an image online of what is presumably a cut boss in that area; a giant, red-eyed spider that slowly appears from the darkness in the background. Some fans theorized that, based on the location it would have appeared in, those creepy dudes that approach you on the bench were originally going to be puppets on that thing's legs, and that you would then fall through the floor into its arena to fight it. It's kind of funny to imagine that monstrous beast putting on a fake voice to trick you like some puppeteer, though.
i feel ya, i accidentally fell into deep nest just after i got the desolet dive, i was on 1 hp and just barely escaped! i couldn't heal from the dirtcarvers ii think they are called. i could not heal!
The downslash tip is one of the most important on the list in my opinion. Learn the timing and your gameplay will be much easier in many parts of the game. And don't be like me and start using spells on the end game, train how to use them and you will have a good time later on.
Vicar Manus It takes a while to get used to, especially if you change it with badges. Same with the no knock back badge, I just couldn’t get used to it.
@@maplebiscuit5005 I haven't even finished the game yet,I just like rusty. I learned the importance of pogo fighting in the hornet fight where I avoided her and her nail half the time if instead of waiting to leap above it I went foward and pogod on her a few times
I recently started playing Hollow Knight, and my catchphrase quickly became “its all patterns babeyyy!” It’s kinda silly, but I say that before fighting almost any major enemy, and that’s helped me slow down and pay more attention to the patterns. Remember kids: it’s All Patterns
Here's a good tip if you're struggling with a particular boss: try switching up your charms. Every boss is different and the strategy that works well to defeat one boss might not work for all of them.
Out of the 40-45-ish, charms, I still can't find a good setup for NKG, I just run in with 15 Lifeblood masks and hope my attempts at memorizing his patterns works

I carried some of my knowledge from my Bloodborne phase into Hollow Knight and it’s helped me immensely. Specifically, when you first meet a boss, *don’t try to fight it right away.* Just spend a few minutes learning the boss move set and figuring out your dodge windows. Take as long as you need to do this. That way you don’t get surprised by the changing phases and rare moves. I beat the Soul Master in three attempts that way, but I spent an hour learning the move set first. Taking that extra time makes fights so much more enjoyable
Yeahh, I dropped down in deepnest before I even discovered the city of tears my first time playing. It's safe to say that I didn't feel in control and thought I had gotten stuck
Some charms interact with each other in interesting ways. Dash master + sprint master Further increases walking speed Sprint master + weaver song Spiders move faster Grub song + weaver song/grim child Allies generate soul Defenders Crest + flukenest/glowing womb Creates poison areas insted of contact damage Grub fly elegy + fury of the fallen Nail swings cause a shock wave when at one health Dream sheald + dream wielder Sheald is larger and regenerates faster Shape of un + quick focus Increased movement speed well healing Grub fly elegy + life blood heart/core Keep projectiles untell you lose a white mask Grub song + grub fly elegy Increase soul gained when hit Hive blood + Joni's blessing Slowly regenerate life blood
Don't expect to beat any boss in your first or second try. After losing a couple of times and understand your enemy, you will start seeing improvement at a constant steady pase and, eventually, the boss will seem much easier and you'll find yourself beating a boss which, at first, seemed impossible. Hope this helps someone ; I
This one for sure. It took me an embarrassing number of tries to beat False Knight and Hornet on my first play-through, and now their fights take about a minute each and are close to effortless. The bosses will kick your ass the first time around. You will die. A lot. But you will eventually beat them, and the more you play, the easier it will get. And once you get to the point where you start to feel actually kinda skilled, the whole game starts to make more sense and feel so much more fun. You just gotta practice.
Here is a tip someone actually had to tell me (by watching a video on the subject) that i wish i knew sooner: the charm notches are not as restrictive as you think. repeatedly try to equip the same badge you dont have enough remaining notches for and the game will eventually let you over charm. Over charm has some limitations, most notably that you can only over equip one charm at a time (so is best to make it your most expensive charm) and you take double damage until you go back within your normal limit, but if you prefer a glass cannon approach, sometimes it can give you the strength to overcome a long boss fight that otherwise you would slip up in. Weigh the risks and rewards properly and it might surprise you how much stronger you can become with just 1 extra charm.
Being someone who’s played Hollow Knight over and over and over, I can surely say that one bit of advice that I have for new players is: Don’t be afraid to explore and don’t rush the story. The story is amazing and the gameplay is a match made in heaven as well, don’t be afraid to go around and find things for yourself, and when you do find something, remember it, because it may remind you of something later! I hope any new players have as much fun as I did when playing Hollow Knight, good luck!
Except if you're going for the 5 hour speedrun archievement, in that one you have to plan the route and go Sonic the freaking Hedgehog if you wanna make it on time ;v;
@@colbyboucher6391 you can just fight The Collector and get the locations of the Grubs on your map, also you can just set up a Dream Gate to fast travel or just use the Stag or Tram. Also there's a lot of shortcuts everywhere to get to areas quicker.
Colby Boucher i completely understand what you mean. Personally, I enjoy that kind of aspect to the game, but not everyone plays the same or has the same interests. Honestly, just enjoy the game as you do, there’s nothing wrong with having some dislikes here and there, however I do hope you find more enjoyment in the game
The problem with the story in Hollow Knight is that 1.) 90% of the lore is delivered in what seems like cryptic riddles, and 2.) dialogue beyond the last sentence that NPC spoke (and Zote's mountain of precepts
One really helpful trick is to quit the game. Seriously, if you get caught with one mask in a tough situation, you can just quit and get sent to your last bench. I almost failed a steel soul run, but done this and it saved me.
Yeah I second this advice. Don't be a hero. If you're on a boss to learn their patterns, and you see that it's kicking your ass, don't be a hero and lose your shade to them. Just menu quit out to the nearest bench and try again. This saves you a lot of trouble finding your shade again, especially if the shade is in a hard to reach area or in the area inside a boss room.
Finally someone said it. “Combat logging” gets a bad rep in other games but for a purely single player game where losing a shade can really hurt you, just do it
I understand people use this and it genuinely helps them, but I personally have to say, the shade is only a minute at away most and easy to kill. Save and exit is awkward and throws the flow of the game off. Although one exception is when getting shade traps you in boss arena.
I really never had a lot of trouble with them once I realized you just had to be patient. I’m surprised how little I see let’s players actually just CHILL when they see a new enemy. Just stay away and observe how the enemy attacks. Would save them a lot of trouble haha
@@fluffy7358 I just heal up to full and then spam attack while tanking hits... :P If you touch it instead of letting it hit you, you'll only take 1 damage instead of 2
Great slash man. It breaks the guard AND damages the enemy. Immediately dash away from them and you won't get hit, they become soul once you start doing this
@@pluto3194 and you can dash through them with the shade cloak as an additional means of attacking them, either from behind while they're swinging or with the charm that turns the dash into an attack.
My little contributions to these tips are: 1) Make a copy of the save games once in a while. If the power goes off while saving, you'll save file will most likely be corrupted and you won't be able to load it. Even when there should be a couple "older" save files you can use to patch your save game, it's not a bad idea to make a copy of save games after some time, specially after clearing difficult areas or bosses. 2) If you die in the Colosseum of Fools, there is a room inside the Colosseum itself where you can retrieve your shadow. First time I died there, I went back to the arena to fight my shadow but I only found the usual enemies instead, so I died again and lost all my geo. Even when geo it's really not that important after a while, at that point I still needed it.
I discovered the importance of perfecting the timing on the pogo strike. There are times in the game where having that down cold is absolutely necessary.
Some bosses are just too fast/spammy. Of course the best time to use it on bosses is when they're staggered, but with bosses like false knight (and i think failed champion) you can only deal damage while they're staggered.
LordNul1 dream nail him while his head is stuck out, then bounce on his back, not his head, every time you hit him it resets his timer to get back up, and then repeat until soul is full, hit the head a few times, then you have a full would gauge for the next phase
Tip: leaving the game at anytime and reloading the save file puts you back on the last bench you rested on (just like how you spawn after you die), which can save quite some time for back tracking or exploring, especially if you plan it out ahead.
If you find a trail of one type of corpse, (or a lot of corpses in general.) Always follow it. Sometimes it’ll lead you to a new boss fight other times it will lead you to a key, or item you can sell to certain bug you meet mid game.
It's also the second most damage dealing spell (first one being abyss shriek) and you can get it pretty early on so it can help you rush areas you normally go in the late game.
When I first got to Greenpath I used the blue flying bug in there as a spring board to get to that part you first see Hornet and I never felt that clever before. I missed a lot of stuff in Greenpath.
My tips 1. You can upgrade the Dream Nail to a point where it allows you to set something called a "Dream Gate" in most areas of the game. That "Dream Gate" is a place you can teleport to. I recommend having that thing in Dirtmouth so that you have a safe place with a bench, stag station and nearby lifeblood to always back in to if things are getting dicey. 2. If it's lore you're interested in, use your Dream Nail on any NPC you can find, heck you can even use that bad boy on corpses for just ever so little interesting things you could've missed. 3. If you get a new Charm, don't hesitate to try it out. You can never know what combo of Charms is the one you get along with best if you don't experiment. Get wild with combinations and even if it seems weird to other people, just go with what suits you, the game givesyou the tools for that. 4. Rusty basically already said it but patience is key. Sometimes you'll stumble upon a brick wall that you just can't seem to get past. But getting frustrated will lead you to make silly mistakes. The game can be rather hard so just take a step back, breathe and think. If you can't defeat a boss as of now, try and challenge it without the intention of beating it. Analyze movements, try to see if there are any indicatirs on what attack will come next. If it's a puzzle or you just don't know how to continue, go bac to areas you were in before. You will most likely have gotten some new ability that lets you progress there instead which may even be the key to continuing forward.
Sim Card I think they got that date from Steam because Team Cherry had to give a release date there. What we don’t know is if the date there was maybe just a placeholder. At least thats what I know. If it were to be the correct date I’d be happy af tho :)
Paul Lütze I don’t think you understand,Nintendo posted a picture that has like 20 games that are supposed to be coming this year,Silksong was there(with no date though),I’m not talking about the placeholder date on steam.
its honestly crazy how this video was made over 3 years ago and Rusty was saying "silk song should be releasing extremely soon" and we still dont know the release date
I got lost in deepnest, found my way out into the fungal wastes and IMMEDIATELY fell back down through the floor that breaks and proceeds to get lost AGAIN I still get PTSD when I hear the music
I practice on nkg for 150 times and still i couldnt beat it but damn it made all the other bosses easier when i face them i did kingdoms edge hornet 4 times after practicing with nkg
An addition to the breakable walls bit is that if you can hear the sound of an item, enemy, grub, etc. that you can't see, there's a pretty good chance they're hidden by a breakable wall. And don't write off the sound an item makes for anything else. I've always written off the glowing sound at the entrance to the Forgotten Crossroads as the light coming from Dirtmouth and it was only yesterday that I learned that you can ignore the chain and wall jump up and find an artifact.
He said you can bypass the well chain to go back to Dirtmouth and slide the left wall in order to find a wanderer's journal. (Translated into HK technical words)
I LOVED Hollow Knight. It was so neat- and I HATE platformers usually... but this one really got my interest- the music, the art style, and the character is sooooo cute!
You forgot rule 11 Don’t do divine unless you have completely use that fragile charm and have the Hallownest treasury of geo Seriously it cost like 32k to get all 3 unbreakable charm
An I Guy @ well I tried that but all I collected was Borden and stress since I cold beat trial of the fool and I accidentally waster by fragile strength by divine (still pissed btw )
Early and (pretty) safe geo farm: keep killing the 2 moth guards near the stag station in Greenpath. That’s (mostly) how I got enough to pay for all the unbreakable charms, and it’s one of the fastest methods I can find without having to go into deepnest.
Once they are available it isnt that difficult to come up with the money for them. Selling artifacts gets you there or mostly there. Plus, they arent even that useful, there are way better charms.
Small combat tip: learn to swing your nail upwards when attacking enemies mid-air. It’ll help you to have more control of where you’ll land after the attack while preventing any possible recoil from the swing that could push you into a spike pit or other hazard. Trust me, swing upwards to attack mid-air, it helps a lot.
Something that I found useful when fighting bosses: don't stop moving. Unless the boss is winded and you need to heal/charge an attack, keep moving. It's something that most people probably already know about but seriously it's super helpful. Hit everything. You never know what shortcuts you might unlock. Also upgrade your soul spells, nail, and masks as much as you can. It's oh so very helpful!!
One thing I do from most 2D games (like this one) and most people don't and REALLY helps. Don't watch your knight. Watch the enemy. You gotta be aware of your space to maneuver, but lock eyes on the target. NEVER leave the enemy out of your sight, neither it's projectiles. My friend faced Hornet and he had his *ss handed to him 7 times in a row. I told him: "Ignore what you CAN do and watch where she is. Pay attention only to her and react accordingly." He beaten her right after no problem.
@@jaxryz_380 Yeah in early game my first play-through I was saving for a Lumifly Lantern and had 1,200 geo... and lost it all. Didn't even realize that was a possibility. Devastating.
PLEASE be aware that when you die you can get your geo back by killing your shade, I didn't know it for the first 3 areas of the game and I wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy.
A little detail I discovered accidentally: When you encounter the False Knight, after staggering him once so he goes berserk, you can break the door to the left and retrieve the spell without having to slog through the whole battle without it.
a habit i use when fighting a boss is dedicate your first try to learning, first try on a fight i spend just dodging and learning the attacks, then when you feel comfortable knowing the patterns you can continue on with trying to kill it. learning patterns first is better than constantly yoloing it
something you missed in the down slash section (aka pogoing) is that while it resets your double jump when you successfully land a pogo on an enemy or spikes or whatnot, it also does the same for your mothwing cloak dash as well. so you could, if needed, jump > dash > double jump > pogo something > double jump > dash, or some pattern similar, since you regain a new dash AND double jump both from EVERY pogo you land before touching the ground
This is incredibly helpful, thank you! I'll start using Vengeful Spirit more -- I definitely fall in the "but what if I need to heal???" caution camp, so I'll see what switching it up does for me.
You never need to heal if they're dead. Good practice is to keep just one third of the soul gauge in reserve for healing. Anything over that, immediate spell time.
@@tylersomerville313 he's really just annoying once you get the hang of his pattern. just make sure you prioritize the aspids when he spawns them so you don't have extra projectiles to deal with.
@@misterturkturkle only by health amount and the nail upgrade balances it out but with 2 nail upgrades the minions the collector spawn are one shot instead of 2 or 3
Oh also: that downward strike "pogo" is reeeeeelly good for enemies. Most enemies that don't have a shield and a lot of enemies that do, you can just pogo off them 2-4 times (whatever the normal amount of hits you would need to kill them) without you taking any damage
Generally having more health makes it a lot more calming... There's that point where you don't really care about like 3 damage on your way to a bench and you'd rather use that soul for some spells to speed up progress
Oh shit, looks like lots of newcomers finding this from the PS Plus freebies.

Oh yeah it’s bench time
tip: every time you see something that you need to use an ability in the future, mark them in the map pins, so when you're stuck you know where to go
Yes, I can vouch for that.
I remember acid water... and some kind of stone wall... what area was that even in?" (Acid water and stone walls describes about half of the game areas.)
I would also add, use pins for important locations that the map doesn't identify. For example, the grave where the Grey Mourner wants you to take a flower isn't marked... and you REALLY don't want to go wandering around with that flower any longer than you need to, trying to remember the exact location.
How am I JUST now learning that you can mark shit on your map? I bought those markers thinking they were charms!
I didnt need to, I just would pull up the map and look for branches/passages that weren't shown yet but were open. Thats where i needed to go.

Thanks in advance, i'll try this later, I'm off after losing to failed champion (dream false night) more than 20 times in a row lmao
@@gabtrg314 False knight can be tricky, but he also has a trick to him: he actually only has 1 phase. Let me explain:
First, equip the Spell-boosting damage charm, I think it’s called something like Shaman Soul.

I agree. This comment is really good!

The most useful tip I can give: _For the love of god, PLEASE be patient during boss fights._
I understand. _Keep calm and be patient._
If anyone reading this is new to Hollow Knight, I hope you enjoy the game just as much as I did! It may be difficult, but everything is worth it in the end, believe me. I have faith in you
THIS! Patience, watching bosses and learning their telegraphs is by far the best way to success. The only way, really.

One tip after about 20h of gameplay: Enjoy that your character is not becoming so much better like in other games, but that you as a player are becoming better. Many games nowadays are easy if you just grind enough weak enemies and level up, becoming basically immortal. 15:00 when i first played i thought the broken soul gauge was a lasting effect and you keep that permanently as sort of a "punishment" for dying. It's only after I died to hornet that I found the shade, and was so shocked when killing it repaired my soul meter.
I thought that the broken soul gauge would get worse and worse with every death until It breaks completely and get a game over for dying too much.

@@hilvystewy7298 jeeez 12,000 today I lost 900 coz I started the game, I was pissed now imagine 12,000 😶😶😶
The game combat is basically;
- Dont heal, learn to dodge
- Use spells
- Learn to find breeches on enemy movement so you can deal more damage
My version of HK game combat:
- Dodge. Seriously, just dodge. Heal when the battle's over.
- Cast Descending Dark. Just Descending Dark. Those I-frames really help.
- Pogo on everyone who doesn't counter back or jump.
@@yurilxes Magnificent Zote likes your reply
There are breaches long enough to heal on several major bosses. Soul Tyrant has a huge one enough to heal more than 4 points. Killed him in 4 tries under-equipped once the patterns were obvious.
Spells make me lose. I don't use em ever. The best advice for combat is remain calm and move slow. Being fast almost always gets you hit and panic gets you hit a lot. Just stay steady and swing the nail and there's no boss you can't fight
Remember, when in doubt, descending dark
I cant say it enough: dont feel shitty for having to google stuff sometimes. HK has so much content, enough for multiple playthroughs, and half the stuff is very well hidden. Youre not worse of a player for it. The experience is the most important, not how you got it.
I googled where Millibelle was (after she robbed me of my precious geo) and was not disappointed. I cherished that geo until I lost it 30 minutes later.
Thank you for this!
TRUE. In my first playthrough I literally had to google where is the False knight since I somehow missed transition leading to them and didnt want to farm 1800 geo for lantern lol
I had to Google what to do with purple mushrooms in Fungal Wastes cause I didn't know I could jump on them lmao

Learned that one the hard way, against Hornet and the Soul Master.
*Nightmare King Grimm has entered the chat*

@@GetHypedandShockedAttack and use spells, the damage will pile up
@@CheeseBoat25 It's very probably too late but today I just beat the second hornet bossfight and here's my tips for the second bossfight (because I don't think there's much to the first tbh)
1)when you just dodged something by jumping and dashing, don't forget that you still have your double jump ready to dodge her throwing attack
2) if the spikes she places are getting to dense, don't try to get rid of them by breaking them one by one with the sword, just use a spell
3) you absolutely need to pogo her (hit down with the nail) at every chance you have, after every attack of hers
4) healing in this fight is tough, you can be sure of it pretty much only when she does her orb energy field attack and her throwing attack (if you're far enough) so it's better to use your soul for the downwards spell. This comes in handy in this fight as you dodge all of her attacks by jumping, making it so that she is always right beneath you, the perfect place to hit that spell
4) remember that, if you run out of dashes and double jumps (and wall jumping isn't an option) you can still stay in the air if you pogo her nail in her throwing attack or the spikes she places in the area.
@@kinulidd0598 thank you!
here's a couple of tidbits about your shade.
When you die without your shade, you lose all of your geo.
When you don't have your shade, you can see if on the map (It'll be a pretty obvious, black shadowy thing with glowing white eyes.
Your shadow gains health when you do, making it harder to kill but also easier if you upgrade your nail.
Your shade learns when you do, meaning that when you learn a spell, so will your shade.
your shade's health, however, is also directly proportional to your nail strength
And if you use the charm that transform all your health masks into blue masks, you can kill it with one hit. (The blue masks don’t count to it’s health)
You can dream nail your shade for instant kill it
It took me one second after actually dying and finding the shade that the lil fucker attacks you lol
@@akundaruratkalalupa9710 If you get voidheart it'll be passive, which is kinda nice. I wished it still followed me around though.
Don't be afraid to use a simple hop or a high-jump and save the double jump just in case you miss your landing.
yeah, specially pantheons in godhome, i fuck up easy fights because of god forsaken double jump jank
I actually time my use of the double jump to help position myself better. For example, sometimes a quick double tap can move you horizontally without moving you vertically very much. It’s all situational.
For me it’s the opposite. It’s so much easier to do the double tap since you can save yourself whereas before you couldn’t
This is so true. I started using it all the time, even for small jumps, and half the time I'd miss the platform because of it.
This is especially useful if you want to take a break from a difficult boss, but your shade spawns in the arena; you can enter the arena, focus entirely on defeating your shade, and then quit out of the boss fight by going to the menu.
that's a good one. thank you
This was really useful. Thanks for this.
So i can steal my shade
Ok thanks
I just lure it toward me without triggering the battle & then bounce once I'm whole again lol

0:22 that "extremely soon" prediction for Silksong really didn't age well...
Also super useful when fighting bosses on radiant

One really helpful trick is to quit the game. Seriously, if you get caught with one mask in a tough situation, you can just quit and get sent to your last bench. I almost failed a steel soul run, but done this and it saved me.
Yeah I second this advice. Don't be a hero. If you're on a boss to learn their patterns, and you see that it's kicking your ass, don't be a hero and lose your shade to them. Just menu quit out to the nearest bench and try again. This saves you a lot of trouble finding your shade again, especially if the shade is in a hard to reach area or in the area inside a boss room.
@@l.n.3372 i mean may as well just reload saves
I wish I'd thought of this before I lost about 10k Geo trying to get through a really difficult platforming part
Another tip: When facing Devout Stalkers, just uninstall the game. It’s more efficient at killing them than the “standard” tactic

How to make a copy of a save file on ps4?
How to make copy on ps4
Oof! I felt that one for you. I must’ve been a pretty bad surprise not to find your shadow when you got there.
You can't seem to copy save file on Switch that I can find.
How? I can't figure it out!
"Extremely soon, like sooner than we think", me 4 years later still with no silksong in my life
I discovered the importance of perfecting the timing on the pogo strike. There are times in the game where having that down cold is absolutely necessary.
*path of pain*
Its mandatory to get past White Palace
i love how informative you were about the game without actually delving into spoiler territory. you rock.
Rusty: You can use dream nail on bosses it's very useful
also Rusty: _doesn't use dream nail against failed champion_
Some bosses are just too fast/spammy. Of course the best time to use it on bosses is when they're staggered, but with bosses like false knight (and i think failed champion) you can only deal damage while they're staggered.
@@lordnul1708 yeah so? You still have plenty of time to dream nail them at least twice
sven weiland but then you don’t do any damage lol
@@scratch9349 once you kill him in the pantheon you can dreamnail the body twice before going to the next boss
LordNul1 dream nail him while his head is stuck out, then bounce on his back, not his head, every time you hit him it resets his timer to get back up, and then repeat until soul is full, hit the head a few times, then you have a full would gauge for the next phase
Damn "Silksong will be released soon. Like sooner than we think." aged like a fine wine :)
Tip: leaving the game at anytime and reloading the save file puts you back on the last bench you rested on (just like how you spawn after you die), which can save quite some time for back tracking or exploring, especially if you plan it out ahead.
But then you lose progress...?
@@kokirilink nope, you just teleport back to the bench and all progress is saved
@@bigman7676 wow, I had no idea, thanks!
that’s how i got out of the deep nest when i fell in there early game
I would not use this trick first time you enter the Abyss as you will miss some npc interaction.
If you find a trail of one type of corpse, (or a lot of corpses in general.) Always follow it. Sometimes it’ll lead you to a new boss fight other times it will lead you to a key, or item you can sell to certain bug you meet mid game.
Tip: desolate dive gives a 0.4 second i-frame, so it's good for dodging attacks as well as dealing damage. it took me a while to find that out
It's also the second most damage dealing spell (first one being abyss shriek) and you can get it pretty early on so it can help you rush areas you normally go in the late game.
"Silksong will be released soon. Like sooner than we think" 3 years ago
When I first got to Greenpath I used the blue flying bug in there as a spring board to get to that part you first see Hornet and I never felt that clever before. I missed a lot of stuff in Greenpath.
My tips
I’m looking forward to comments like 8 months from know that will clown him saying Silksong is gonna come out sooner then we think ^^
I know this may not be accurate, but google “Silksong release date”
Nintendo confirmed Silksong is coming in 2020,so that’s something at least
Sim Card I think they got that date from Steam because Team Cherry had to give a release date there. What we don’t know is if the date there was maybe just a placeholder. At least thats what I know.
If it were to be the correct date I’d be happy af tho :)
They said that was a fake date, word of god
Paul Lütze I don’t think you understand,Nintendo posted a picture that has like 20 games that are supposed to be coming this year,Silksong was there(with no date though),I’m not talking about the placeholder date on steam.
its honestly crazy how this video was made over 3 years ago and Rusty was saying "silk song should be releasing extremely soon" and we still dont know the release date
Tip 16 - Take anti-anxiety medication 30 minutes prior to entering Deep Nest.
Lmao
YES TRUE
God I needed this tip when I first started-
tbh i am terrifyed of deepnest as i just beat the boss to get there but everyone says deepnest sucks and i currently wana shit myself before i enter
I got lost in deepnest, found my way out into the fungal wastes and IMMEDIATELY fell back down through the floor that breaks and proceeds to get lost AGAIN
I still get PTSD when I hear the music
02:14 If it makes someone feel better, in my first playthrough I died to Hornet more than 100 times. I don't regret it.
I died to mantis lords 50 times
It took me about 2 hours to beat hornet the first time.. only took 2 tries the on my second play through though :P
Lmao it took me a week to beat the mantis lords with my default nail, yet I can proudly say I’ve killed herrah soon afterwards
I died to Watcher Knights 87 times
Wait you can WHAT
I'm sorry what.
You forgot rule 11
Don’t do divine unless you have completely use that fragile charm and have the Hallownest treasury of geo
Seriously it cost like 32k to get all 3 unbreakable charm
Grimlock Greg you can grind colloseum of fools for the geo, while time consuming, is worth it both for the geo, and extra practice
An I Guy @ well I tried that but all I collected was Borden and stress since I cold beat trial of the fool and I accidentally waster by fragile strength by divine (still pissed btw )
More importantly, don’t do it if you are in steel soul mode
I really didn't care about more life charms ever, so I only focused on strength
Early and (pretty) safe geo farm: keep killing the 2 moth guards near the stag station in Greenpath. That’s (mostly) how I got enough to pay for all the unbreakable charms, and it’s one of the fastest methods I can find without having to go into deepnest.
Rusty: Geo isen't that important later game
Me: Unbreakable charms? Those things are expensive man.
rusty: geo isn't that important
new gamers: OH YEAH, GIVE ME THOSE PURPLE ROCK THINGS ISELDA!
15,000 for... what was it again?
I have heart and greed, but I always forget the third one...
Oh well, it probably wasn't that important, then.
@@brianheroic9543 strenght
Once they are available it isnt that difficult to come up with the money for them. Selling artifacts gets you there or mostly there. Plus, they arent even that useful, there are way better charms.
Well, they're not that important though..
I have this hard wired into my brain and I can't press space without pressing W.
Pay attention only to her and react accordingly."
He beaten her right after no problem.
YOU LOOSE ALL YOUR GEO WHEN YOU DIE WITHOUT YOUR SHADE...
YOU LOOSE ALL YOUR GEO WHEN YOU DIE WITHOUT YOUR SHADE...
I lost my first 400 geo because I wasn´t careful... because I didn´t know this. It hurt so bad :'(
Florencia Mastrandrea I was about to mention that 400 geo is pocket change, then I remembered that beginning game it really is a lot
@@jaxryz_380 Yeah in early game my first play-through I was saving for a Lumifly Lantern and had 1,200 geo... and lost it all. Didn't even realize that was a possibility. Devastating.
@@absf15 Oof. I am tearing up reading that. Been there done that.
I lost 10000 geo from this. (It was for converting fragile charms into unbreakable).
BIG oof for me
PLEASE be aware that when you die you can get your geo back by killing your shade, I didn't know it for the first 3 areas of the game and I wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy.
first three areas= forgetten crossroads, greenpath and fog canyon?
A little detail I discovered accidentally: When you encounter the False Knight, after staggering him once so he goes berserk, you can break the door to the left and retrieve the spell without having to slog through the whole battle without it.
I remember seeing that in a speedrun and almost spit my drink out
But if you skip that fight then you don't get that crest thing which will be useful to enter city of tears.
@@ashishdhingra8034 you get the spell and then go back and kill him makes it a lot easier
@@lordofwardens3728 Actually, now that I think about it. This makes more sense.
@@ashishdhingra8034 or you can do the shade skip to get to resting grounds from salubra's shop (after you get dash and mantis claw)
a habit i use when fighting a boss is dedicate your first try to learning, first try on a fight i spend just dodging and learning the attacks, then when you feel comfortable knowing the patterns you can continue on with trying to kill it. learning patterns first is better than constantly yoloing it
Tip: Don't expect silksong to come out anytime soon.
its august now and no signs so yeah
Aw goddammit
It's September 16 now
Ah yes can confirm
Welcome to October 2020, where your disappointments amplify further!
something you missed in the down slash section (aka pogoing) is that while it resets your double jump when you successfully land a pogo on an enemy or spikes or whatnot, it also does the same for your mothwing cloak dash as well. so you could, if needed, jump > dash > double jump > pogo something > double jump > dash, or some pattern similar, since you regain a new dash AND double jump both from EVERY pogo you land before touching the ground
Rusty thinking sulksong coming out “extremely soon”, two years later still not out
Personal experience tip: don't try a boss called "the collector" with less than two nail upgrades...
Im still on my first playthrough and I haven't played in multiple months because of that damn, boss. I really just can't beat him
@@tylersomerville313 Yes you can... don't give up.
@@tylersomerville313 he's really just annoying once you get the hang of his pattern. just make sure you prioritize the aspids when he spawns them so you don't have extra projectiles to deal with.
Nail upgrades make most bosses harder?
@@misterturkturkle only by health amount and the nail upgrade balances it out but with 2 nail upgrades the minions the collector spawn are one shot instead of 2 or 3
Oh also: that downward strike "pogo" is reeeeeelly good for enemies. Most enemies that don't have a shield and a lot of enemies that do, you can just pogo off them 2-4 times (whatever the normal amount of hits you would need to kill them) without you taking any damage
*cue traumatic memories from vertical Garpede puzzle
As a noob, I have to say, the reason why we don't use spells is that we can't even manage to hit them...
This exactly this
In my case i just were paranoic enough to save soul bar exclusively for healing.
@@Soundwave1900
You get a lot calmer once you put 50 hours into the game.
Then you can strategize how you want to use your soul bar.
Generally having more health makes it a lot more calming...
There's that point where you don't really care about like 3 damage on your way to a bench and you'd rather use that soul for some spells to speed up progress
:D
