Just finished putting flat base on my kitchen cabinet last night. Easily see my hand mark after I screw them back to the frame. Now this gives me an idea. Thanks!

Very nice, a word of advice, buy yourself a box of aluminum foil, and place a small piece on the can you your are going to use, so you don't make a mess on the edge (rim) of the can, Granda gave that advice, since then I always use the aluminum foil on the can rim, specially on enamels , urethanes (or no water base ones), it a lot less clean up to do, I don not use solvent base products that much, and when I do, I use the Poly mineral spirits trick and do it by hand, maybe just maybe I will try spraying it, you did a beautiful job, thank you very much I'll keep in touch, gracias

    Lookin good man!
Love the finish of that 2K Poly.
Those Tekna Prolite guns are awesome! I have one and do automotive painting as a hobby.
Can you do a vid about toners and maybe going into more detail about them?
Im gonna takle redoing my parents kitchen cabinets. It was a custom kitchen, and is about 30 years old...Its oak. I want to refinish but tone them just enough to take away the orange or yellow hue that they have. They dont want dark, so i will have to be very light with the toning process...but im not sure how to mix it up, or what even to use...
Thanks for any help you could provide!!
Also, where would i purchase a 2K poly?

Do you have more in-depth bigger videos? What do you use for a toner? . What brands do you use? If you could do a video on just mixing the 2K poly.
    I’ll look through your video.
Do you have a specific pre-cat lacquer? Can you use a vinyl finish on everything?
Would you use a 3k poly on a table top and a pre cat on a base? I have 100 questions lol I think you said the brand but I missed it.
I noticed you aren’t wearing gloves and touched it with your hand, is it not terribly effected by oils on the skin?

You dried sample does look better, but this low sheen does hide that wet orange peel look before. I’m wondering if a full gloss dried
might reveal the orange peel, especially from my previous comment is what might cause it. .

I have white cabinets that were finished on site with SW semi gloss paint. The hood above the range is beginning to yellow. Nothing has worked to clean this hue off. Do you think I could use your method to restore my cabinet color? Would I have to sand down the white color and repaint?

Bad news is it's most likely that cheap precatalyzed lacquer favored by all the let's get it done quickly..... your whole kitchen will turn yellow overtime..... you need a Conversion varnish or a 2K poly.
      Multiple times better.....!!

In a painting versus staining application; have you had much success in grain filling oak, either with an additional product sold as a grain filler (such as: AquaCoat, Timbermate, high strength spackle) versus vinyl sealer? I'm curious about pros and cons of other methods versus just trying to fill a cavern with sealer. Thanks.

When you cross spray the 2k on the last coat your still spraying 2 coats essentially. Even if you jump right into the cross spray immediately
That first coat is drying fast enough that now re applying the second coat they may not flow as it could. You still show an orange peel under those lights. I,ve done this cause the underlying coat sucks the solvents needed to flow the coat out. Might have you done better not to spray 2 coats ?
Maybe just slow down for one heavy coat ? I’m using turbine air at lower pressure and it doesn’t have so much air as you do.
    What do you think ?

Why not use 2k poly on furniture? It seems to have great qualities of durability that make me want to use it on furniture. Also, what's the out gassing time frame of pre-cat vs CV vs 2k poly? At least in relative, spray to installed in a home time frames? I know it can change due to all kinds of factors (temp, amount of thinning, etc).

    • @finefinishsupply
      @finefinishsupply  5 років тому +2

You definitely can! I enjoy the soft amber of lacquer on furniture. Poly is a plastic so it can give the furniture an almost plastic appearance. It is very high solids so it's not my preference for furniture.
