I’ve watched my husband play the last of us twice now and the driving part you referenced is a part of the game you are actually playing so for those who loved the game it was a very special moment! It’s almost frame for frame perfect! It’s an incredible story and I assure you there’s so much more to come! Ellie is an absolute badass, and even though I know what happens I’m still loving it. I do have to knit through it though as I can handle the tension 🤣🤣🤣

You could sew your cozy memories into a tube and stuff it with scraps like fabric or yarn and use it as a draft catcher for a door. If you don't need it you could always gift it to someone who does.
If you need the actual armhole to be biggest you could steek it by doing a crochet slip stitch on either side of the cut, then cut a few stitches down between the secured stitches to give more room. Then you can pick up stitches in the secured stitches.
Your blanket will always be not only warm as a blanket but also full of warm memories.

Cozy Memory Blanket. Maybe everyone who has abandoned their blanket can send it to someone who loves it. That person can connect the pieces somehow into a finished product. I also love the scarf idea.
This is such a cool idea and it glorify all the work placed in the small pieces!
For your crochet scrappy blanket: Soak your blanket in the washing machine using wool wash and bath water temps with 3-4 carbona color grabber sheets. Drain. Spin. Spin again. Transfer to dryer and tumble on low heat. You want less than 106deg for the water and the dryer. Try the "damp" setting on the dryer if you can't select temp. By skipping the agitator and watching the temps, you'll minimize the risk of felting. All the yarns should bloom though. Avoid the heat of the dryer to prevent felting and high temps of the water to prevent color bonds breaking in the superwash.
You can totally make a pretty pillow cover with your Cozy Memories project!

hope you had good luck washing your blanket. i was all my 100% aran sweaters and blankets in the machine all the time. the most important thing it alot of water and then let it sit in the water without agitation. i fill the tub with a bit of wool wash and warmish water. then i just let it soak and get all the fibers really wet. i agitate it for maybe 30 seconds then let it sit for about 5-10 minutes. depending on how intense your machine is- i remove the water and then let it spin. if you have an aggressive spin cycle, then remove the items and remove the water from the tub- then put the pieces evenly into the tub and let it spin for a few seconds. stop and check it. spin again. i never wring or squeeze it. so with short bursts of spinning it removes the most water- but hopefully gently. then i pop it in a cool/barely warm dryer for about 1-2 minutes. yes- very briefly. it fluffs it all up and will make the item less heavy and wont distort as much. so then i just lay it on an ironing board or a towel on the bed (toaster free zone). i also sometimes hang them on the shower rod or back of a chair with a towel or blanket under it. then i turn it and re-fold it every hour or so. most of the yarns you use have already been under tension and have been in hot dye and water already- they can take alot. its best to wash them with lots of water and mild swishing-- it prevents dye transferring as well. hope it worked out for you. love the colors.
I have made many sock yarn blankets. I wash them on delicate and dry on delicate. I have never had a felting issue. Crossing my fingers for you!
Wash blanket cold , delicate cycle, in your machine and the spin cycle should be enough drying for you to hang it over your shower curtain rod. Hopefully you have a shower curtain rod. That should reduce any felting. 🤞🏽
For pet issues, Bio-Kleen makes a product called Bac-Out; it is a natural enzyme cleaner. I have wool area rugs and when my cat throws up, I use the cleaner and it neutralizes any bile.

You can steek superwash wool if you reinforce the edges either by sewing or crochet. That way you can fix the sleeve situation on the Lace & Fade Boxy, and wear it with an extra bit of pride for your bravery! I know you can do it, I was so impressed how you added length to your Rhinebeck sweater last fall!

Not sure if you got around to washing the blanket yet but - I would recommend trying high-rpm spin cycle rather than machine dry. Much, much smaller chance of felting and with 1000+ rpm it comes out half-dry anyway! I've used this successfully for multiple non-superwash yarns without damaging them.

For your Boxy, if you have time, make a test sleeve with the ripped out yarn not "fresh" yarn. For the cozy memories blanket you could send it to the person who is getting the small 10g or less yarn. Just put it in the bag without unraveling it.

I have machine washed my granny stripe blanket a few times on delicate and dried it on low heat. It came out fine. I only used superwash sock yarn and magic knot the ends. While it was in the dryer I checked it every 10 minutes or so to see if it was holding up.

I’d get the blanket dry cleaned, I know it’s a cost but if that felts it will be ruined
I just started reading the book you just finished. I love a little light reading on the kindle while I knit, too.
When you wash wool that you don't want to felt use a cold (30° Celsius, not sure on F temp) wash and lowest spin cycle (800 or less) on your machine. You should be fine with that on most wools.

Hi Natty I wanted to recommend you to wash the blanket anyway. I would the podcast Finnish Knitting story and Jana finished her Cosy memories blanket, and told the water was really dirty, because of the years she was knitting it. And Kay from Crazy sock lady, told in one episode how she wash all her socks and she put it all into a dryer as well.
I love my coziest memories blanket. I am using fingering and dk scraps. For the fingering, I am holding it double. I'm loving how quickly each square works up being at that weight. This is my long term project to use up all my scraps.
I love the boxy you are wearing here! I might have to make one... I like the sounds of the V neck option. I am trying to find a good project for some fingering weight variegated tweed so something with a simple silhouette like this!

I’m knitting a coziest memory blanket too. I did put it away for a few weeks while working on other projects. For me, I’d finish the last row you’re working on and put it on your window ledge like you would a table runner.
I would think about adding a border and making that cozy memory blanket a cool, chic looking scarf!
Luckily I had started my cozy blanket with a corner, next row two blocks, etc. So then it sat for years and I finally finished it off as a square, and crocheted a binding, and now it is a winter centerpiece on my dining table❤
You have helped me so much and you don't even know it. I am making a sweater that calls for 8 inches of positive ease. It is a circle yoke sweater. I thought I would just go down to give myself 2 inches of positive ease, then rethought that and now am making it with 4 inches of positive ease. I would never have thought about the sleeve issue until you had a problem with your boxy. Now I am aware of it and will put my Barber cords in and try it on so I can make adjustments for fit. Hi. Love your stripe blanket. If you want it to cover the pillows as well you might want to consider to add more stripes. Whatever you decide, it looks amazing already.
For the blanket with the odor, could you febreze it and let air dry? If not, maybe just soak in vinegar water and then dry on low spin cycle after trying to get out as much water as possible. I've done the vinegar water and surprisingly doesn't smell like vinegar. Good luck! Beautiful blanket!
I’m having issues with a sweater too lol I’ve made it a point to try on the sweater as I go and felt good about it until I finished the first sleeve 😅 it’s got some bulk in the front underarm section that should’ve been solved with less increases but I think I’m just going to finish it 🤷🏻♀️ mistakes were made but I still think it will be something I wear and use as a “template” for future projects with similar characteristics

I have washed my non super wash and it was fine. Before I knew about super wash I used non for socks and I still wear them a yr later. I wash them and dry them and the sts still look great. Ur beautiful blanket should be just fine.

I made the Lace and Fade Boxy to wear at VKL because I am taking a class of Joji’s and I am so excited 😄. I’ve learned to look and read project notes of patterns before I knit them to see if there are any special issues to be aware of. I saw that several mentioned that the sleeves were very tight. So I decided to knit an inch longer before I divided for the sleeves and I modified the sleeve decreases. It worked very well for me.

I love your videos. I have loved watching you work on the Granny Stripe Blanket and hope to make one someday. I have a couple of suggestions to avoid possible felting. First, why not, for now, just put the part you want to wash in the sink, and not the whole blanket. Then squeeze it out as much as you can and only that section will have to dry somewhere. Second option, how about small indoor clothesline from a hardware store that rolls back into a circle. I have one in my closet or sometimes people put them in the bathroom. I loved all your stash videos and you have such great suggestions on how to organize.
I switched to Libby about a year ago, and it's fine, but Overdrive is better. I'm going to miss it. I love downloading to my super old MP3 player for when I'm at work. That way I can listen, but not be distracted by phone notifications.
If you don't end up wanting to keep your coziest memories (I see a few suggestions), I would be happy to take it off your hands and use the yarn in my scrap blanket (and pay for shipping). =) Love watching your podcast every week!
I wash all my knits in the washing machine, whatever they’re made of. If it’s a very precious fibre (cashmere, alpaca/silk or silk mohair), I choose the setting for cold water and the slowest spincycle. This takes about 30 mins in my machine and nothing has been felted yet. I use mostly non-superwash fibres. I think your blanket will be perfectly fine if your machine is good. 🥰☺️
For your Cozy Memories, I would finish the row and have a funky scarf. Or you can rip it out and add it to Toaster's blanket.
Also started Severance and I totally agree. Not sure if the payoff will be worth the effort of watching the whole thing.
I commented last week but I just had another thought!! I remember one of your reinbeck sweaters, when you cut off part of the sweater, knit some more, and then kitchenered it together. Could you do that again - cut it at the point where you have the stockinette section starting, knit flat on both sides to make the armhole wider, unravel the corresponding rounds on the bottom half of the sweater and then seam them back together? It would be serious surgery but you did it before and it looked great!!

Might I suggest you lean into a TLC approach with your lovely granny square striped afghan? A little water regurg from Toaster at this point can be remedied by spot cleaning. Perhaps lay out your blocking materials, refresh the part that is affected with a mild plant-based detergent ...rinse and towel blot. This section should dry relatively quickly [within 24 hours] ...and you can use some Febreeze after that.
Love, love, love your boxy bright pink top you are wearing and also your light pink lace boxy confection that needs sleeves altering. Might I suggest a short steek on each side? It seems below the present opening it is stockinette stitch and would be easy to accomplish.
I am no expert ...so I thank you for your great knitting expertise. Your podcasts are a "mini vacation" for me.

Do you have just a plain spin cycle on your machine? If so, you can hand wash your crochet blanket in wool wash and spin all the water out in the plain spin cycle and do very low delicate cycle on dryer. I’ve done this process with 100% wool and it doesn’t felt! ❤
I was interested in your Boxy changes as I still haven’t started one for myself -yet! Also I hated my cosy memories blanket too! I started with great enthusiasm but I have to say I found it boring! I made mine into a reasonable size (small) and put it in my dogs basket where it was, and still is appreciated! Perhaps you could donate yours to Toaster or an animal shelter! Before you throw your Cozy Memories blanket away, maybe consider making one or two squares a week, like on a specific day. I almost gave up, too, but once I decided to make a schedule and stick to it faithfully, I am now excited with working on it again. I am keeping a list of the months with check off squares to mark my progress. My goal is one a week and if I feel like it, maybe two. With having other projects on the needles, this helps take away that overwhelming feeling. Hope this helps.

I'd recommend going up a needle size on your sleeves of the boxy sweater. I'd knit it past the elbow and maybe go full length sleeves
#Question Are you going to do a border around the blanket? And you would sc on each side of the live stripes you want to keep, cut out the felted stripe, then join with granny cluster and remove the lifeline sc stitches at the same time.

I made a 100% wool afghan that will definitely felt in the washer. I've washed it twice in the bathtub. You just use wool wash or a very mild soap, let it soak, drain the water and do a rinse soak. Then you squeeze the water out with towels. I have dried it on towels on my dining room table (folded because it doesn't fit).

The tool for center pull balls is called a Nostpine. They can be exceptionally beautiful. It's definitely a skill for winding.
use your lifeline tool- I'm bad with remembering this. Throw in a lifeline wherever you want and finish to length. If after washing/wearing can always rip back with ease! Game changer

I know that us machines are a little different than the ones we have in Germany, so take this with a grain of salt. I’ve been washing all of my knits (mostly non sw wool) in the machine using cold water and a gentle spin at 800. Nothing has ever felted and after spinning I find that wool is already pretty dry. If you can select those settings on your machine I’d try doing that instead of using the dryer.

Nat, soak the blanket in the tub and then drain. Channel your wine makers vib and stand on the blanket in the tub and squish out water. Then put it in washer on spin cycle x2 or x3 times. Then put in dryer on air dry intermittent with delicate. It will be fine.

#question I usually have 3 - 6 wips, because I get so excited when I find a pattern that I love that I want to start it straight away. But then I get overwhelmed and feel like it’s taking forever to finish something.
I also have so many ideas for designing my own patterns! You seem pretty balanced in your making. How do you balance your wips and pattern designing?
As for the mitered square blanket, you (or someone else) could rip out a few of the squares and make it into a lovely scarf for donation! I'd be happy to do this if you're interested!
If you have a top loader machine you can just soak your blanket without agitating just pressing gently with your hands, then spin on a low spin. Fill with rinse water soak again without agitating, then spin again on low. I find that my knits don't shrink or felt doing this. I'd then lay it on your couch to dry, folding it in half if you need to.... putting some chairs in front of the couch so your pup doesn't sleep on it. I don't know if you can stop and start the cycle in the machine if it's a front loader. Good luck whichever way you choose.
PS if you have a bathtub you could also wash and rinse in there and then just spin in your machine..

I think the boxies look better without the sleeves in a sense they already have it. The blanket you don't know what to do with you can contact the one your sending the scraps to she might want it or another knitter. Your projects look beautiful to me.
I suggest dry cleaning. It should not felt because it is a solvent and no water is involved.

#question What are your favourite cables for magic loop for socks? So far I've been using DPNs for socks but I'd like to give magic loop a try. I was thinking of getting a set of Chiaogoo interchangeables but I've heard a lot of people say the cables are a bit stiff and cause ladders in the sock. I love how your granny stripe blanket is coming along btw
You could try laying the wet blanket out on your mattress and dry it with a hair dryer
Use the blanket as stuffing for a stuffed animal!!! Especially if it’s going to a baby. The big, already knitted fabric can’t come through the stitches like fiber fill will.
And if you don’t make stuffed animals (which it looks like you don’t based on previous podcasts), maybe someone on the Love In Stitches membership could use it as stuffing.
You might not need 6 more stripes especially if you're gonna pop a boarder on it !!! But the boarder will take up the rest of the month 🤣
I had the same experience with slipping the last three stitches in helix knitting. I found I was spending more time trying to even out the three slipped stitches than I was actually knitting the round. I finally bit the bullet and tried slipping just one stitch and being very mindful of my tension when I knit the first stitch after the slipped stitch. If you are naturally at ease with this, it should work for you. Give it a try.
