He wasn’t perfect note for note every single night but dude delivered night after night . Still can and does. It’s almost impossible to tear Sebastian apart on his ability or his talent. Even more so as far as his stage presence. Most bands would have sold their nuts for a Beautiful cocky tall thin blonde frontman who could break glass if he wanted to with a scream from hell while balancing a power balled. They just don’t come along like him anymore. Sebastian is a rock god legend.
And how ironic...they parted ways with him because he said they would open for Kiss...they said they were too big to do that...and a short time later Skid Row opened for Kiss 💋 more than once. He may have an ego, but theirs was bigger. They still won't reconcile even though he put them on the map.. He had good business sense and knew it could only be good PR to open for a legend. He has such charisma...was watching him in Ricky Horror Picture Show as Riff Raff and Jekyll and Hyde...amazing. And watch him today, he is so appreciative. Can't say enough about his fans.

He's not only a great singer, but a great front man. He's got the looks and vocals, but he connects so well with his fans and I think that's super important!
There are videos on UA-cam of Sebastian absolutely killing it. I mean when this man was in his prime nobody came close to his raw power and range. The demands that 80's metal singers put on their voices would takes it's toll on anyone's voice. These guys did world tours performing in a different town every night.
Sebastian is my fave vocalist of all time. Such versatility. A beautiful vibrato and such power in his upper range. The class and training and style of his voice took him from metal to Bway. So impressive. Also, loved your breakdown of his technique. Thanks so much. 😘
Thanks so much for adding Sebastian to the Great Singers Collection, Ken. Wasted Time, In a Darkened Room, and Quicksand Jesus should make it into Part 2!
In my HUMBLE opinion... Sebastian Bach was the greatest singer to come out of that "hair metal" genre/80's rock & metal music. His range was incredible, his tone, and during his prime years ('88-92) his ability was truly unmatched by anyone. A shame he didn't take care of it properly, but oh well. And id say, def Top 5 greatest vocalist OF ALL TIME in rock/metal music history, along w/ Axl, Freddie, Dio, Robert Plant, etc.
Such a crazy life he has lived. From audition for KidWikkid a local band in Peterbrough Ontario. To ripping lyrics in Skid Row. He is timeless abd he has some acting chops with a few cameos in Trailer Park Boys. His vocals may not be what they were but, you will be entratined for sure. He goes all out. Also who has cooler hair? Sebastian or Ken 😄
Many moons ago back in Ontario we had this famous bar in the City. My sister worked with this lady and her brother's band was booked to play at this bar, I was asked to go check the band out, I did, and guess who the lead vocalist was??? Yep Sebastian, this was a few yrs prior to Skid Row.
Sebastian Bach is one of my all time favorite vocalists! I couldn't get into Skid Row after he left! He was the reason I was into Skid Row! After he left Skid Row I followed his Broadway and Solo career. I met him a few times and he was so enthusiastic and had so much energy! Please do one on Michael Sweet! He is also one of my favorite vocalists and a real down to earth guy! Every time I met him he was so nice and appreciates his fans!
Yay! My mom hung out with Sebastian back in the day when he was in a band called Kid Wikked back in the early 80s. Good times from what I hear haha. Great video!
Saw Skid Row several times in the 80s. Amazing sound love the heavy base, and Bass's singing true belting rock. Not too bad to look at back in the day.
Skid Row's debut album is one of my favourites of all time, and Sebastian Bach has always had that killer high tenor wail! Also, he appeared in a few episodes of Gilmore Girls in which he portrayed a guitarist in a touring band, I believe.

Thanks, Ken. I love these videos. Sebastian Bach was one of my favorites. As a singer, I suppose he still is, although I wouldn't want to share a long car ride or be stuck in a hotel room with him! It is interesting to note that neither he nor Skid Row have had any real success since they parted ways. So much money could have been made but apparently there isn't enough money for the Skid Row guys to suffer through a reunion tour.
I always click on the what makes this singer great video 👍 Sebastian is a legend. He put 💯 percent in his singing. So many great songs from skid row . Yea he definitely took chances total effort 🤘🤘🤘
Slave to the Grind is a classic Rock album and ahead of its time for the combination of heavy/raunchy but yet still melodic all at the same time and still manages to fall into the ROCK realm while dipping in and out of Heavy Metal.
I have sung "Remember you" three times live with the band, as beautiful as it is a difficult song to make perfect... When it was best when apart from technique, you close your eyes and sing it with all the emotions of the experiences that made you choose sing it.
Ken as a huge fan of this era I love what you do. Def Leppard is my favorite band I have seen them over 30 times. I love all of these 80s hair metal bands. TY so much for keeping this era of music alive.

I think a lot of his pitch problems on stage stem from the fact that he did a lot of amazing vocal gymnastics in the controlled environment of the studio that he just couldn't reproduce on stage. He gives a very energetic performance, running and jumping across the stage and losing his breath.
I like Sebastian Bach because he's not only a great singer, but he's very expressive. You really see that with his performances on Broadway. Outstanding. I've heard him lately and while he's still got that power and voice, I do hear that strain sometimes. Makes me wonder if he pushed it too far with his head voice for years. Still love him though.
I saw Skid Row in '89, and their energy combined with Sebastian's singing was sublime to watch - it was probably still the best concert I've been to. Sebastian also toured Australia a couple of years ago doing some club gigs as a solo artist, and my wife and I went to check him out (our 'song' is I Remember You ☺)...it was still cool to see him, but his vocals seemed to have a lot of effects and echo to cover up his seemingly now limited range. I'll always be a fan of him and Skid Row though.
I saw Skid Row when I was 17 in ~1989 in the UK (Manchester IIRC) on their tour supporting their first album. When Bach burst onto the stage it was ABSOLUTE pandemonium. I wasn't expecting it, and I was crushed so bad I could hardly breathe throughout the entire opening number .. which I think was Youth Gone Wild! I wasn't a huge fan, but man, that gig was wild! 😆
I would love if you could do deep analysis of Jon Bonjovi voice. what make him great, and what did he do wrong that make him lose his voice over the years
Ken, your explanation nailed it exactly. I used to be able to hit halford and bach notes, not anymore. It makes perfect sense how you explained it. I used to be a 20 something wailing, now I can't get it back.
I am a rock guy but I would love to hear your commentary on Elvis Presley especially in the context of emotion in a song and ability to story tell. Thanks Ken absolutely loving your course!🙏☝️
any band would have made false cards to have a talented, handsome, sexy frontman like baz. he knew how to hold the scene!!!....he was the protagonist of many recitals on broodway
Ken, I would love for you to critique Jack Russell’s vocals in the band Great White. His singing is great for that southern blues rock that most of Great White plays. I feel that he’s underrated, because I rarely here anyone bring his name up among great singers.
He s so right...If you have strong chest voice and open throat...you can sing easily anything in your range and you can then start working those vocal effects but not before..
I was impressed with the song he released as the winner of Gone Country..Battle with the Bottle (which he said was autobiographical), as well as his Broadway musicals. Talk about a versatile artist!
He was in a band with Maxine and Roxy Petrucci Called Madam X back in the early 80s. They were part of the Ontario/Detroit metal scene And he was lucky to have my band Sacred Oath open for them at Blondies on 7 mile rd, back in 1983. That's what made him great 🤟😉🎤 Thank you Ken, great job as usual!
'Wasted Time" is the best showcase of Seb's extraordinary vocal talent. I never heard be able to change pitch and tone while holding the notes. Also I love how much emotion he gave to it. It really sounded like a personal experience. Can you talk about that one. Also they did extensive world wide touring, then look how Seb jumps around stage that may be the best reasons why he gives sub-par performance. Show the show from Stockholm. Seb gives the best live performance of 'Wasted Time".
Would like to see you cover the late Warrel Dane, who was the singer for Sanctuary, and most known for Nevermore. He was a natural baritone who could hit anything and had a theatrical approach to his metal vocals. By far my favorite metal frontman.
Danny Hidding I’m a Bon Jovi diehard (not a vocal expert though) and my personal opinion is his voice is done. He’ll have some decent days, maybe hit a Bb4 decently sometimes, but as far as any power, consistent range, or anything that made him so good in the early days. Maybe I’m wrong but his voice got substantially worse from 2018 (after he improved a bit) to 2019
Please do one on Phil Anselmo! He's often skipped when people talk about great singers, but I can't think of anyone else who has the versatility he does. When he was young, singing those high notes in Cemetery Gates, Shattered, Clash With Reality, Message in Blood, then as he got older the rasp and distortion in songs like Mouth For War, I'm Broken, the screams and growls in Slaughtered, Thirteen Steps to Nowhere, Suicide Note Part II, Temptations Wings, Drag The Waters etc, the clean bluesy sound in songs like Where I'm Going, Suicide Note Part 1, Learn From My Mistake, Hollow, the unbelievable sounds he got in Superjoint Ritual, the vocals in Scour and The Illegals....I've not heard anyone speak on his new band En Minor. I'd be curious to get your take on his voice today from clips of that band.
En Minor, by the way, a totally unexpected sound from the hardest dude in metal. Like The Smiths meet The Cure, and theyre angry, sort of. Has a cellist.
Ken! Thanks for doing these! Awesome stuff! I believe and I may be wrong, but I think l read back in the 80s that Sebastian used to take regular lessons, had a vocal coach and was pretty solid in warming up regularly. I've heard him sound less pitchy LIVE than these clips (not knocking the clips or your choice!) and he seemed to be one of the more powerful, consistent singers in the 80s - due to what I outlined above...which might need some research, but I think that's what I watched or read. Thanks again, Ken!
I'd be curious to know what you think of of some newer performances of Sebastian Bach. I heard him live between 5-10 years ago. Probably closer to 10 years ago but I can't remember exactly when it was. And he wasn't pitchy like that at all. It was a smaller venue outside so it was easy to hear him pretty good. He sounded amazing.
Sebastian Bach is a amazing singer!!!
When I think of Bach!!! I think of Steven Adler and a dude named Bernie!!! He was best friends with all of em growing up and that's how I have STEVEN ADLER'S BLACK PEARLS (set) that is one of the 1st he ever had!!!! Bernie was my uncles drummer and he gave em to him. I was ran over by a FORD F250 and am disabled now. Enough to walk but work... after the grand mal seizure I had....it ruined me. I was "man! When I get disability, I'm gonna get a det of drums to give myself physical rehab and really try and build up even being able to walk through a grocery store fo more than 18 mins!! "Hey flamer!! I have a det if stuns Bernie gave me. They actually were Steven Adler from Guns's 1st or 2nd set. You can watch all kinds of videos with him playing this set! You can tell the snare and the Tom's. He put un a Lars Ulrich signature snare so its metal but yea!! Bach came over to his house and his Jam room studio while he was on tour with Jesus christ Superstar and jammed! "He was a cool motherfu*ker!!! Lemme tell ya! He drank our buds and smoked some with us!! He sang his balls off just as we were playing our song! Did a few covers and that was tits!" Wish I was there for that! I'm into PUNK and GRUNGE! I love Mötley cause if their songs and my silly ideas of ROCK GOD substance use at the time. Slave to the grind is HARDCORE!!! (I love it cause my other uncle would be "what the hell is this Chit?" When it came in Ozzys boneyard! I said Its Skid! And monkey business!!!! In the video!!! His walk, singing and attitude!!!🤘🎸🤘🎸🤘🤘🥰🥰🤩🤩🤩 He slays it!!a Back can sing his balls off!! Hes as rad (into cool stuff) and is as nice and great as could be!!! I subbed from the Layne video I came across 1st!!q This would totally be ine to also cause me to also! I hope you do shannon hoon. I saw a Cornell!!! Hoon and cornell had a rasp that could kick in like Kurdts pedal (DS-1) that I tried for weeks/months walking the 6miles to and from from work at Pizza hut. It's right when Cornell passed. Blow up was something i learned immediately. Those hour and a half long walks!!! I found out "its internal" unless theres a trick o dont kno to have that natural rasp yet keep complete ability to keep tonw, pitch and sound. I try and kurdt it. Idk how ti properly scream so I blow out my voice and my natural (keidis... Nowell soul sound) leaves also!!! Its like ( I crashed my car!... how do I just walk away and still drive?) Lamdo
I like Sebastian's voice a lot!! His pronunciation is really nice also. Big hug from Brazil. And I would like you talk about Michael Hutchence's voice (INXS).
Okay but also remember in ears weren't used during this timeframe in live music. That made it really hard to not be pitchy considering the range of his vocals.
He wasn’t perfect note for note every single night but dude delivered night after night . Still can and does. It’s almost impossible to tear Sebastian apart on his ability or his talent. Even more so as far as his stage presence. Most bands would have sold their nuts for a

I love sebastians vocals so unique x
I saw Skid Row in '89, and their energy combined with Sebastian's singing was sublime to watch - it was probably still the best concert I've been to. Sebastian also toured Australia a couple of years ago doing some club gigs as a solo artist, and my wife and I went to check him out (our 'song' is I Remember You ☺)...it was still cool to see him, but his vocals seemed to have a lot of effects and echo to cover up his seemingly now limited range. I'll always be a fan of him and Skid Row though.
Rock on!
I would love if you could do deep analysis of Jon Bonjovi voice. what make him great, and what did he do wrong that make him lose his voice over the years
Thanks for the suggestion.
Second that!
Yes I agree with you.
Jon Bon Jovi is my favorite singer
but on the long run he loses his voice.
@@madox3135 not only he lose his range, but also overall sound of his voice
Ken, your explanation nailed it exactly. I used to be able to hit halford and bach notes, not anymore. It makes perfect sense how you explained it. I used to be a 20 something wailing, now I can't get it back.
John Sheldon 👍
I am a rock guy but I would love to hear your commentary on Elvis Presley especially in the context of emotion in a song and ability to story tell. Thanks Ken absolutely loving your course!🙏☝️
Great suggestion!
Second that!
3rd that :} ........lol
any band would have made false cards to have a talented, handsome, sexy frontman like baz. he knew how to hold the scene!!!....he was the protagonist of many recitals on broodway
Ken, thank you for these videos. Really enjoying it.
Hope you are keeping well. 🙏☺️
Glad you like them! All good here.
Ken, I would love for you to critique Jack Russell’s vocals in the band Great White. His singing is great for that southern blues rock that most of Great White plays. I feel that he’s underrated, because I rarely here anyone bring his name up among great singers.
Thanks for the suggestion, Nitro_001 Newman!
He s so right...If you have strong chest voice and open throat...you can sing easily anything in your range and you can then start working those vocal effects but not before..
Rock on!
He could make a scream sound beautiful.
Rock on! 👍
I was impressed with the song he released as the winner of Gone Country..Battle with the Bottle (which he said was autobiographical), as well as his Broadway musicals. Talk about a versatile artist!
Thank you!
Sebastian increadible! Brazil loves!!
Rock on! 😊
I keep coming back to you? You are gorgeous, talented, an expert in your assessments-thank you for your very obvious humility.
Awesome!
He was in a band with
Maxine and Roxy Petrucci
Called Madam X back in the early 80s. They were part of the Ontario/Detroit metal scene
And he was lucky to have my band Sacred Oath open for them at Blondies on 7 mile rd, back in 1983. That's what made him great
🤟😉🎤
Thank you Ken, great job as usual!
Rock on! 👍
sabash....yes...meet him once....crazy good singer....
Rock on!
Thanks for the suggestion!
Would like to see you cover the late Warrel Dane, who was the singer for Sanctuary, and most known for Nevermore. He was a natural baritone who could hit anything and had a theatrical approach to his metal vocals. By far my favorite metal frontman.
Hey Ken, do you think that Jon Bon Jovi's voice has permanent damage or could he still restore his voice by using your techniques?
I could only speculate.
Danny Hidding I’m a Bon Jovi diehard (not a vocal expert though) and my personal opinion is his voice is done. He’ll have some decent days, maybe hit a Bb4 decently sometimes, but as far as any power, consistent range, or anything that made him so good in the early days. Maybe I’m wrong but his voice got substantially worse from 2018 (after he improved a bit) to 2019
@@kentamplin we would love to watch you speculating..
Crikey this brings back memories, really nice 😊
Glad to hear that tom bat!
Love this series Ken! Awesome content :-) Thanks for sharing...
My pleasure!
Rock on!
Seb's my biggest singing inspiration haha
Skid Row their are Amazing
👍👍👍
I'd be curious to know what you think of of some newer performances of Sebastian Bach. I heard him live between 5-10 years ago. Probably closer to 10 years ago but I can't remember exactly when it was. And he wasn't pitchy like that at all. It was a smaller venue outside so it was easy to hear him pretty good. He sounded amazing.
Thank you.
Thanks Ken.
You bet!
Sebastian is absolutely amazing! Like you ken :)
Haha. Thanks.
Jani Lane of Warrant. Awesome voice. Loved him. R.I.P. Jani, you can't be topped. Please do a video on Jani Lane. Thanks.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Sebastian Bach is a amazing singer!!!
Thanks for the visit!
Did a few covers and that was tits!"
Wish I was there for that!
His walk, singing and attitude!!!🤘🎸🤘🎸🤘🤘🥰🥰🤩🤩🤩
He slays it!!a
Back can sing his balls off!! Hes as rad (into cool stuff) and is as nice and great as could be!!!
I subbed from the Layne video I came across 1st!!q
This would totally be ine to also cause me to also!
Hey Ken - I'd love to hear your reviews of Mike Reno / L:overboy, and Rick Florian / Whiteheart. Thanks for sharing your expertise:)
Noted!
I hate to say this but back in those days, appearance went a long way when it came to 80s bands. I could be totally wrong, just a thought.
There was certainly a look, Chrissy!
Ozzy picked Jake E Lee over George Lynch for that reason. George had short hair when he auditioned and Ozzy didn’t like it.
Sweet....
Wow! He's pretty!
Rock on!
I met him. He was really nice...ego or not he was cool.
Rock on! 👍💜🎤
Thanks for the video. I would Love to see you saying something about Bono. Best regards from Brazil!

Would love to see one of these videos done on Myles Kennedy. He's one of the my favorite singers, and has just gotten better with age.
Good suggestion.
Thanks Ken, so interesting 👍✌️
Glad you enjoyed it!
And he was like 19 when they were playing stadiums the first time around.
I like Sebastian's voice a lot!! His pronunciation is really nice also. Big hug from Brazil. And I would like you talk about Michael Hutchence's voice (INXS).
I'll see what I can do.
Okay but also remember in ears weren't used during this timeframe in live music. That made it really hard to not be pitchy considering the range of his vocals.
miljenko matijevic for the next video ken 🙂👍🏻
