I suffer from chronic constipation. My Functional Doctor put me on Magnesium, and I felt immediate relief. The effect is immediate if I stop or forget to take my Magnesium at night. I can't say enough good things about this supplement. However, doctors are not trained enough in this area. I have been to emergency with constipation and not one doctor said "Maybe you are low in Magnesium, let's check this out."

Same for me. I do have some adhesions that make my bowels not function as well but I also had horrible digestive problems and chronic constipation. I was only given laxative and stool softeners. Or told to drink more water. For decades. It wasn't until a doctor told me to take magnesium for my muscle cramps and fibromyalgia. He then said oh it might help with the constipation too. Duh!!! Why didn't one doctor ever tell me this. It has helped with many of my problems.

@ReeseMalott1976 the dr recommended 1,000 MG and if that didn't work, to add vitamin C. Even with both it doesn't help. I take 1500 MG at night with vitamin C. When I see her in the summer I'll chat to see if I should be including something else.

When I was in my 30's, working full time, raising kids and taking care of a home, I had horrible back pain on my left side right before my cycle started. So bad that I went to the doctor for it. Of course they threw pain killers at me. I found one that I absolutely loved. Then it got taken off the market because it caused heart problems which I was genetically at risk for. Through a nutrition class, I learned about magnesium. I started taking magnesium citrate. This back pain was from constipation and I was so busy, I didn't realize it. Right before my cycle, my body had so much tension but magnesium citrate relaxed all of that. When my cycle was coming on if I woke with a tension headache I would take magnesium citrate instead of Tylenol. Cramps I handled the same way. Total game changer!

I have to say that magnesium has changed much for me. For at least 5 years I was suffering with muscle cramps (usually in calf, ankles and feet) at night. As well many sleepless nights. Just thought it was the never-ending menopause effect! However, in late December of 2023 I came across some UA-cam videos dealing with vitamin and mineral deficiencies and realized how applicable the one about magnesium was to me. I began with a 100 mg tablet (a combination of several forms of magnesium) that I took with my supper meal and the effect was immediate - a very restful sleep and no annoying muscle spasms. Since January of this year I have done more research and now take 200 mg Magnesium glycinate twice per day (one in the morning and one a couple of hours before bed). I wish I could tell you how much better I feel and should also mention I have been gluten free and sugar free for at least 10 years. Incidentally I also learned that you must take magnesium with vitamin D as they activate each other and so I added extra D as well as a D with K2. And through more education by watching you and others, I have added a B complex and Omega 3 as well as C with Zinc -- since I'm over 70 (who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks??) all these supplements have helped make each day better. Thank you for a well presented video and sharing your knowledge so generously.

What magnesium brand do you use?

    • @dianneunderwood8456
      @dianneunderwood8456 Місяць тому

@@bridgetwoodward8031 It is a Natural Factors brand labelled Magnesium Bisglycinate 200 mg Pure. I bought it on Amazon. Since using this I have also discovered there are other forms that are suggested to use by physicians for more specific needs (like migraines or constipation) where they may recommend a magnesium citrate for example. However I chose this one as it was easily absorbed (no digestive upset). To begin with (before I went with the magnesium bisglycinate) I was using a Jamieson brand
that was a combination of magnesium formulations ( called Magnesium Extra Strength) in a 100 mg tablet. I was just taking with my supper meal to see if it would help with my sleep and muscle cramping issues -- and it worked great! Bonus being it also improved my stress levels too. That's when I realized I needed this in my diet and through more research decided to try the magnesium glycinate. Thanks for asking and hope I haven't now confused you!.

I spray magnesium oil directly on muscle cramps. I used to get them a lot. Now I do a weekly bath with a cup of epsom salt plus about four ounces of magnesium oil. Keeps the cramps away, but getting on the proper diet with fasting is what has really done the trick. Haven't had muscle cramps in many months.

@@organictribe8363 You can purchase magnesium oil in a little spray bottle in a health food store like Sprouts or Whole foods but it's pretty expensive that way, (about 12 dollars for eight ounces) I found in in gallon size jugs bought online from Piping Rock and it was much less expensive.
The best magnesium oil in my opinion is sourced from the Dead Sea in Israel, but also good from the great Salt Lake in Utah.

I was taking amino acids based on a book (can't recall the name). They were way better than antidepressants, and Adderall. I felt fantastic. Even though I had very good blood pressure,, my pharmacist husband and another friend had fits saying they would raise my BP in my mid 70s at the time, which they didn't so I ultimately stopped taking them. Five years later, during the pandemic my BP shot up and I had a mini stroke. So.now I'm on all kinds of meds, but I feel fine.

You also need some potassium with magnesium + sea salt.
I always combine active methylated B vitamins with magnesium & potassium. All synergise beautifully together !!
I don't believe in 100% carnivore diet or 100% vegan diet - both are imbalanced and non-sustainable. I shoot for 60% carnivore + 40% vegan - beautifully balanced for all those wonderful lean proteins & aminos, B vitamins, trace minerals, potassium, magnesium, folate, vit C, phytonutrients & prebiotic fiber.
The RDA on potassium is a whopping 3500 mg / day for an average weight adult. If you are obese / overweight / insulin resistant you need 4500 mg / day.
The 3500 mg / day for average weight adult is for folks living in western world / cold countries. For those like me staying in hot & humid climates (requires more hydration, greater urinary & sweat excretion ), the RDA is 4500 mg / day.
Unless you consume 7-8 small portions of fruits & vegetables daily without fail, you are Not going to get anywhere close to 4500 mg / day of potassium.
I have 2 small Bananas a day + 1 serve of Papaya + 2 small serves of veg salads + 1000 mg supplemental potassium in divided doses and feel super Awesome !! No constipation no cramps, no blood pressure, no blood sugar, better sleep, better energy and better blood circulation.
I also use sea salt for seasoning with my boiled eggs, fish & chicken serves which is 60% of my dietry intake.
My cooking medium does NOT use seed oils, but only butter & Ghee.
