Hey! A lot of you guys commented that you picked up Sea of Thieves after watching my videos and were asking for some Beginner Tips. Well, here you go! My best shot at a Sea of Thieves Beginner's Guide; I hope it helps!
Skeleton orders can be good if you get them on a small island they will always be x marks the spot if you get them on a large island they will be riddles riddles not so great one treasure chest with random assorted loot that can be pretty terrible at times. And the thing with the lanterns it's not that turning them off makes you harder to see it's more like turning them on makes you a lot easier to see and people who normally wouldn't have noticed you will notice you a lot sooner now
@Tsunzucchini TzatzikiSan they may not have known but also some people just don't care if you show up and you don't fight cool if you show up and you kill them they'll just jump to a new server and start over sometimes it's not worth defending cuz you're not doing anything that important
I don’t have sea of thieves but these videos make me want to get it but I have a question should I get sea of thieves even if I don’t have other friends who have it
My tips I used to give when teaching new players: 1. Learn how to hold block, then simultaneously hold sword charge, then release both and jump to do the sword dash jump, this is the best way to jump off an island and get to your boat in seconds. 2. Whenever you stop at an island have your anchor lifted and sails lifted so if you spot someone coming your way fast u can sword jump on and drop sails and start getting away, solo players have a tough time solo raising anchor. 3. If you are seeing other ships, visiting ones other players were just at., or heading in the path of one, repeatedly check the front of your ship for someone in the water, or one on an island nearby waiting for you to stop. 4. If you think someone might've snuck on board, run around and basically slash every brown barrel or dark area of the ship in case they are "tucked" there, which means they are basically emoted in the spot. 5. If you are running from other players go into the wind, it has been proven that facing the wind is fastest on the smallest ship, but at the end of the day until you have more experience, as a solo player you won't outrun a galleon of experienced players. 6. I know he says in the video lights aren't too big of a deal because a good player will still spot you... this is kind of true, in the past there have been issues with render distance where players hide on other sides of islands their lights still show for enemies because the island hasn't rendered in yet, only lights you ever want on are belowdecks ones. 7. Keep loot down below, never store treasure on your deck, it will shine to other players, also if u have skulls, on the bottom floor of your sloop, there is a barrel in the center, but them on that barrel, if you put them on the bottom floor the green will glow outside the boat making it obvious you have valuables hidden inside. Bonus Tips: If you are feeling good about your skill, keep kegs in the crow's nest (they can be found at any Fort, just look out for a skull in the sky), that way if an enemy galleon or brig comes after you, you can drop the kegs off of the back of your boat in the hope they run them over, this can be dangerous because if a player hits the deck of your boat with a fire bomb then it will set off kegs in the crow's nest. Try to find friends whether it's the craziness of open queue or via a discord, having other players with you will teach you a lot of the ins and outs of the game. Google videos for "Best Tuck Spots on sloops" , which will help you identify if someone has snuck on your boat. If you are a solo console player id recommend going to settings and turning off crossplay, whilst console newbies are the most fun to mess with for PC players it is significantly more difficulty to sword-fight PC players because we can basically keep jumping over your head faster than your remote can turn. If you are in fog and can't find other players or something else point the cannon straight up and shoot yourself out of it , it puts you above the fog and you can see everything, just get to a mermaid asap once you hit the water again. You can harpoon the Megalodon when its at the front of your ship for its first passby to snag a ride, it will go way faster than wind will and it usually goes straight for at least a little bit. If you are unlucky enough to be faced with a galleon or brig that is trying to broadside you, you can try to do what he does in the video and hit whoever on their cannons and knock out sails, another good one is hitting them with fireballs, the bigger the ship, the more annoying fire is to put out due to the layers, so they have to decide on neglecting it and letting it spread or getting off the cannons. LASTLY, If your enemy is dressed in all black, or has any sort of ghostly glowing green on them.... run, get the hell out of wherever you are, because you have a 70/30 chance they are either experienced pirates ready to take everything you have or they are actually really nice and helpful and will try to show you parts of the game. and them being nice is rare usually.
I was a bit worried about the community after reading some reviews. I bought the game two days ago, and have only had good experiences with other people. Someone helped me with the Kraken, I was boarded by someone and the left me a chest, and I had people come to my aid when I ran into an explosive barrel. This game has been nothing but fun, and you made it better.
Even though I’m a veteran Sea of Thieves player, I did enjoy watching this video because it is helpful AND tells a story, which is something not many other content creators can do. I’ll definitely tell someone to watch it if they need tips. Also, congrats on the 100k Cliff!
@@bloodyoathrs3621 i think if you are a new player you should try to play with friends but if not, playing solo on a sloop is very possible. If you need someone to play with you could add me but if you play sloop on open crew you will likely find friendly players willing to help
For enemy types there are several other ones with their own quirks Normal skeletons: Attack them in any way you want they dont have any quirks Broken Skeletons: same as normal but way weaker they will die in like 3 sword hits Shadow skeletons: Can be killed in daylight but shine a lantern on them when its night *when invincible you will notice they are kinda seethrough and you can go through them* Gold skeletons: throw a bucket of water on them or lead them to water and then shoot them, they are way slower than other types so you can easily throw a firebomb at them Plant skellies: slash them with your sword guns dont work as well on them, they also regenerate health in water/rain FOTD Skeletons: You wont have to worry about those unless you are on a specific island and a specific player activated even is taking place they are same as shadow skellies but you have to shine specific light color on them depending on their own color SPECIAL SKELLY: The ancient skeleton: this one very rarrely spawns on any island and gives you ancient coin, a currency you can only get from buying it with real money or getting them from the plunder pass you are at you will notice this sound of something going out of the ground and a noise similar to coins being shaken, locate this skeleton quickly (he is gold and blue and has a bag on his back) and attack it, the skellly will try to run away if it runs away for some amount of time it will go into the ground and disappear so quickly kill it, there are some other skeletons that are just reskins of the standard white skeletons like white skeletons with some glowing bits There are boss skeletons like the captains having just higher health having a name and captain clothes and there are the skeleton lord/ashen lords which are actual bosses with multiple special attacks, really high health and more
Fun fact/tip for gold skellies in particular, on some islands you might be forced to fight them away from any water source. In this case pack some bait to munch on to induce vomiting. Hold out your bucket to gather it and voila, rusty skeletons.
I dunno how but I've been playing with a friend who is returning to SoT and we've encountered Ancient Skellys like 5 times over the course of 7 sessions or so. Wtf is his luck?
Good newbie tip is save your empty chests if you plan on playing for a long time. You can put all your loot in the chests and keep them on the front tip of your ship when you dock land near the vendors and then just drop the chests first then start selling the items. You can put the same 3 types of items in a chest and carry to specific vendors and sell all 3 at once. Saves alot of time imo.
On your first day in SoT, get in your boat, and sail around. Have fun just exploring the seas, seeing what the world looks like, and learning to pilot your ship. Be sure to enjoy the feeling of sailing for the first time as long as you can. Also, if you're being chased, head into a storm to try and lose them, it might work, it might not, but either way it's gonna make things harder for those chasing. AND, turn off all of your lights but the one below deck, day or night.
This is a great tutorial and I'm honestly so thank you for this channel and these videos. I first came to the sea of thieves not too long ago because of this channel and I can see so many new players coming in rapidly. Well done for another great video and HAPPY 100K!
I’ve spent about 200ish hours on SoT and basically know all there is to know but just watched your video for fun and learned you can hit a harpoon with your sword to drop a piece of loot that you harpooned, keep up the great content!
Dude u are by far one of the best sot content creators. Appreciate what u do, even for us veterans who have 900 hours in game it's nice to see someone enjoying the game while trying to help others.
Finished a session where me and my crew decided to use everything you said here instead of going on our regular route of doing world events or talk tales constantly it felt nice to feel new again I showed this to my younger brother and he was able to tag along and understand what he was doing. Love the content btw 👍
@@zhy5641 just buy a 2-4tb hard drive for around 50-100$ USD and NEVER worry about space ever again. Not hard to install, just a matter of opening your PC and plugging into the right spot. Your PC might even have multiple slots so you maybe don't have to even unplug your current one (which means you don't have to reinstall windows)
It's been a few days that I played this game on the gamepass. At first, I went solo, not worrying that players could scuttle me and steal what little loot I found. I was afraid it would happen to me again, and unfortunately... I understood that I couldn't prevent that, because it is part of the heart of the experience of this video game. But after joining a very experienced player and successfully bringing back the huge loot we amassed, I finally understood the appeal of this game. Still, I have a lot to learn. But your video enlightened me on the questions I didn't dare ask during my few sessions with other players. And I thank you very much!
I've tried to get into this game so many times already, but now that I actually have some basic knowledge, and watching your story in this video, I'm a hell lot more hyped!
Kinda felt nostalgic to me to see that when you explained the ashen winds event, it was on the same island I did one on my first day. Me and my friend took over 2 hours to complete it and sunk twice due to meteors and a skeleton sloop. We were very proud of ourselves afterwards though and vowed never to go to the 'red swirly thingy' ever again 😂
Hey Cliff thank you for posting I love your videos so much! I would like to say after a week of playing the game ... getting to know the "community" I personally think that Devils Roar is pretty fun to just go solo slooping in, I only found 1 other player in a 4 hour session and they seemed so distraught seeing me they just took off too. I think the harshness of devils roar can actually help train a player faster to learn how to avoid volcanoes, where to park the ship, how to run and repair. Most of all those things, explore and have fun, its a pretty big game to explore all of it. Thank you.
My first encounter with an emissary ship was a level five, thankfully they were fairly chill and agreed to leave us alone if we dumped the reapers chest overboard. My crewmate wasn’t too pleased with that agreement and proceeded to drink several tankards of grog.
@@Airplanetyson yes it’s still worth playing today they even added a new mode called safer seas which basically is just a solo pve experience by yourself or with friends but you only get 30% of rewards so overall it’s a good mode for just starting players to learn how to play
My friends that I got sea of thieves to play with started me and my wife off a lot like this but they are definitely scared of taking us on world events and don’t seem to enjoy PVP much. But being able to break up and get tier 5 gold hoarder on my second session really put me ahead of the game gold wise allowing me to buy cosmetics for my ship as well as having friends do tall tales with just makes the experience so much greater. You have a lot of details that an impromptu guide from experience players on the ocean will just miss by design so I really love this video it has a lot of tips and tricks they get missed when you’re in the thick of it And trying to explain to newer players.
On my first day in this awesome world of Pirates, Thieves, Wild waters and majestic beasts, I set sail with my friends on brygantine and started looking for treasures and money as every pirate, however we also met skeletons who tried to get into our way with their captain from hell. It wasn't easy at start but as they say teamwork makes the dreamwork. We managed to get as much loot as we could so we started sailing to nearest outpost. While we were looking at the amazing view of sunset, we saw that water started getting darker, the music appeared. It was legendary kraken that appeared out of nowhere, we didn't know what to do but we managed to use our gunpowder barrels to destroy this monstrocity. After we did it our barrel with planks was empty, we had to throw out the water all time, untill we arrived to Galeon's grave outpost... We managed to sell all the loot but then we realised that this outpost is called galeon's grave for some reason. Our ship was blocked between 2 rocks, we tought it was over for us... But then! We used our last gunpower barrel to push the ship back on the sea. With the money we had we bought planks and fixed ship. Sometime later my friends had to go, I ended up sailing alone in the middle of nowhere, then I took the flame grenades and set the ship on fire and went away to see the view. That was last thing that I saw at my first day in Sea of Thieves.....
I started playing the game about 1 month ago with a friend. We were both really new and had to learn the game first which we did really fast. We understood all events and that theres a difference between playing story voyages and others to level up the companys. We set our goal to reaching pirate legend with having in mind that it doesnt give us anything special but it was good thing to do. Now after 3 weeks me and my friend got the title of the pirate legend and were starting to just hang around on the seas and watch whats going on. So if you wanna start playing this game or just started just play and you'll understand a lot really fast.
@@CliffTheStoryGuy yeah yeah sure, my comment didnt have a direct connection to the video It is great to have tips like that especially because most people are just starting and sailing around clueless
fun little fact about the tutorial: If you go to the shipwreck on the island you can find yourself on a treasure hunt that will lead to you getting A lot of money, no spoilers, but trust me when i say its a lot. also funnily enough my first voyage was for a tier one free hoarder quest that came from dagger tooth outpost but went very well, you see after getting the chest i grabbed one of those deliveries from 5:23 for an extra buck, then after handing in the chest while on route to the destination for the package I found some floating loot which included: a seafarer chest, multiple storage barrels and a gunpowder barrel which got me pretty good money.
I started on fortresses. Just used a sniper and shot skeletons from ship until I could get the key to vault. Easy 15k runs and doesn’t take long at all. Good for playing solo and you get all sorts of items to sell so you can level up gold hoarder, merchant, etc. highly recommend. Just for leveling and coins. If you want a fun experience then definitely sail around and try out some of the other features because it will most definitely feel like a grind after a while.
Another thing you might see later when playing the game is different phrases in PvP such as Backtrack- you missed but the hit detection counts it as a hit Sandbag/oneball- you killed someone with a cannonball Hitreg- you hit someone but it does no damage (rare please fix this it's been years) Nosing- meaning a ship is sailing towards your broad give you an opportunity for chaining their masts
11:17 There Are A Few Other Variants Plant Skeletons: Heal In Water But Weak To Sword Crew Skeletons: Tankier Island Skeletons Island Skeletons: No Clothing Or Special Features Skeleton Lords: Ashen Lords With Less Powerful Moves
Been having a hard time getting into Sea of Thieves (I'm a solo player, so hard mode), but I recently discovered that fortresses are fairly easy with a pretty decent payday. For those that are worried about losing the gold to another crew, fortresses are a decent option due to the lower time investment.
Ofc im learning so i will not go blindly into the game but i hope they have ps5 servers so we can have our noob servers before getting slaughtered by pc players
I love the empathy. Most experienced players have forgotten what it's like being new, and it makes it hard for them to give good advice. I agree that some of the things the game has to offer are difficult for new players to handle, but I encourage everyone to try those things when they are ready--use gunpowder barrels, do the other world events, drop the anchor mid-combat, go to the Devil's Roar--just not yet.
1:43 ah, this takes me back to when you couldn’t purchase storage crates. i’d always end up spending the first half-hour of my journey stocking up like this
when you get into a fight like the first one you saw in this video take down the masts and keep them down, shoot holes into the hull and then shoot blunderbombs at the canons until they stop shooting you after that focus shooting more holes on the hull and mix in more blunderbombs because if you hit someone behind the wall with a blunderbomb they will get knockback and it will cancel the repairs.
Love the guide! When I try quests, I always get repeatedly targeted and killed. Spending 3 hours to keep dying and eventually earn a meager amount of gold is brutal. I've learned to just sail, explore, fish, and quit whenever conflict arises. These tips will help me start completing objectives, instead of just vibing on the seas 🤙🏽
Sometimes is pretty hard to explain the mechanics for new players without being boring or sound too complicated. This is one of the most friendly first voyage videos out there. Great work as always!
As a long time player and someone who's Done a lot of the game's more end-tier stuff. Seeing that Stronghold keg made me smile. Oh what wonderful things. Either a massive and lucrative payout. Or an absolute Nuke to humble an enemy Galleon with.
I am new to the game, but I can actually tell you something about the chest of rage. Instead of letting it explode, make a hole in your ship and set the chest in the lower deck so it's always submerged in water 🤓 (Edit) I didnt watch that clip all the way and I am just now hearing you explain the concept I just gave 💀
Only 30 seconds in and I can already tell this is the best tutorial I will watch today. All the other tutorials make it seem like you have a lot of knowledge of the game thus far.
I actually started this game blind about a year ago and honestly I don't think I would do it any other way. The game feels absolutely massive when you're a noob. My partner and I often kept to doing Gold Hoarder missions for the first week or two because we had no idea that you could spawn in different areas of the game (this in tandem with the fact that we only ever spawned on Sanctuary Outpost made us feel like the game was 5 times bigger than it actually is) learning everything one by one and figuring it out on my own was actually my favorite part. I still learn of new things kind of just sifting through the achievements in the game's Pirate log and when we go to try and get those, we learn that the game has still more to offer aside from all the gold making, pvp, pve, etc.
Although I'm not new and I know how to play. It's gonna be useful for my friends. So I'm gonna make sure to send it to them. To be honest they don't really know how to play and rely on me to progress. Some of them are quite new. Great video.
Having over 3k hours in sot and probs 500 in the dr it brakes my heart when you said not to go there, but I completely understand for newer players you shouldn’t start there. It was also really cool just to re live that time when you were completely new to this game and to have a helpful tutorial like this definitely helps 😃
Yeah that’s true but all you really need to do is to know the difference when you are on the island between a volcano and earthquake. Also if you have a volcano on the island you need to go there DO NOT GO THERE I used to do that and approach a island with a volcano and have learnt my lesson lol 😂
Ashen vaults big money for little time & PvP, The oos voyages there give big money and rep and the merchant cargo are the quickest cargo so if you were to do the 500 cargo, do it in the dr
Another tip for ashen lord: go find a nearby treasury , dive and grab about 6+/- tridents (there's at least 10 usually) and use those vs the boss, the aoe oneshots skeletons and does enormous damage to the boss, my friend and I did this boss in under 5 minutes thanks to these things and even under 2 minutes as 4 people using tridents. edit: tho we pretty much use these all the time if we intend to do fort of fortune, especially for the double skeleton lord & ashen lord wave , it helps speed up an already long event.
SOT is the only real open world game without quests constantly telling you what to do that I enjoy. Just the constant engagement is something that kept me hooked for a long, long time, and getting Pirate Legend stuff was a dopamine hit I'll never forget. For any people wanting to play, no matter what device you're playing from, I recommend it and know that so long as you play your cards right and give the game a fair chance long enough for it to shine, you'll enjoy it and see it gleam gloriously on quite a consistent basis. Especially with the new content they added, there are quite a few fun things you can do even after thousands of hours, and self-made challenges are usually where it's at when in late-game. That's all, fellow pirates, and happy looting.
On the topic of new ships: I believe a way the devs could implement new ships without drastically changing the game is adding variants to each ship. For example the brig, they can bring in a 3 manned ‘Junk’ that has bow and stern cannons instead of broadside and is fastest in cross winds. Or maybe for the sloop they can add another 2 man ship the ‘flute’, which on spawn has barrels that are stocked with supplies, it isn’t particularly the fastest in any category but it has gunpowder barrels/fire barrels that can be thrown off the back to deter chasers
Yes I just posted this on a bunch of your vids lmao - but I haven’t seen an idea of this and I reckon if someone with a high status (such as yourself) promotes the idea it might be a chance to get new ships in the game
Am a seasoned player, but I invited a friend to play the game. I decided to watch this video just to see what I might need to teach them or how to explain things. Watching this made me look back and realize I need to just link this video to them. This video is phenomenal and is well at explaining, plus the story makes it really fun! Good job on this video! You earned a sub from me.
Just bought this on my steam deck and it run amazing. I played a bit when the game first came out but stop so its been a few year and i know they added a lot of content so this guide is very helpful thanks.
At the beginning of the video, where you said the devils roar has volcanos and more volcanoes, I felt that in my soul, I have a little over 2 weeks of play time trying to get the ashen curse. *shivering*
I'm a bit nervous getting back into SoT, I played back when it came out for about 1 year or so. I only had one other friend play it with me, but whenever I was solo and out island hopping I would always get pursued for literal hours (2-3) and I got fed up with it since I'm not a PvP player. I would also lose a lot of loot too due to persistent players and it just became a sailing sim at some points.
You don't need to block first to sword lunge. Just hold the attack button with the sword. :) Also, at 9:30 regarding the ship lamps, I DO recommend turning them off. Yes, any halfway decent pirate will see you anyway, but with the lamps on you're so much easier to see. Those doing quick horizon scans MIGHT miss you with them off, but with them on it's very unlikely. If you're trying to get shit done and not be bothered, turn them off.
I used to play a decent amount but got carried by people much more veteran at the game than me. However, I found one of the easiest ways to get money is to go to a island fort of the damned. They are super easy for the most part and usually get me around 1200 gold or so. As soon as you leave the fort, it resets so you can go right back after you sell at an outpost! They also are almost all very close to an outpost making it very easy to just keep hoping between fighting, looting and selling! Tip: At the top of the tower, climb up above the bell and the ghosts can’t hit you with swords and rarely shoot when you are that high up. Then you just shoot them and drop down between waves to get ammo😂
1. This is probably one of if not the best beginners guide for sea of thieves out there. And 2. Eventho the Ashen winds event is one of the easier events, It is still by far my favourite. I just love fighting them and I still think thier final attack is just epic. (Oh and I f-ing love the Ashen winds skull and am one of the ten people that use them in battle, pve and pvp.)
so i don't like the ashen winds due to how crappy the loot can be (then again i have 800 hours and have almost everything maxed XD) but ye i can agree with everything here, i would saw do flameheart as naval combat is really important!
This game is a masterpiece, played it at launch but didn’t really vibe with it too much but me and my friends just recently got back in and my god we love it
Absolutley adore your work Cliff, Been playing SoT since 2018 and i love it that you went from starting your adventure t guiding others. I love how you've grown and hope you get more subs, you deserve it :)
I'm rather new and have just an hour ago defeated one of the Ashen Lords but I didn't check my horizon so the second I defeated him a sloop with two players turned up and sunk me. So newbies always check your horizon! Anyway Cliff great video once again!
Great video! I really in joyed it and I am new to Sea of thieves and you kinda got me into it and this video really helps and I don’t have constructive criticism because you’re content is already really good keep making videos like this!
Been playing since Alpha, just found your channel and I love what you are doing. Even though I know basically everything about this game, still wanted to see your take on a tutorial for it. Best I've seen thus far. Keep it up, dude!
I haven't played this game since 2019-2020. I'm currently about to pick it back up with the problem I had with this game in mind. I always found myself so stressed when playing Sea Of Thieves. That alone is a problem, but I couldnt get over that issue with this game in particular. I'm hoping that with my previous cosmetic gear and my new found positivity for gaming in general that I will have a ton of fun again.
Thanks, bud. Just picked this up, and failing to get ANY of my massive family to join me in some adventure. This was KINDA my solo plan, but this info helped a lot. And I was about to do easy missions rather than just go out... but maybe a mix if I still have free ones.
as a recent new player (within the last week) i like the game and its "objectives" and how there is no balancing issues (no progression AT ALL). that being said, it gets stale quickly. and i dont have time to go on long voyages or quests because they reset every time you log off which kinda sucks as someone who only really gets like an hour a day to play (i work and have a family to take care of). what also sucks is when i get attacked after i finally get some loot, its like my whole play session was useless as i dont get to sell my loot (im not very good at pvp yet, again, new player). One very strong thing about it though, is it is a TON of fun with friends. unfortunately i play solo a lot due to not having tons of time to play making encounters more challenging as i use the brigantine.
Also one tip for pvp/pve if you press the drop button twice in a row quickly after shooting it will cancel most of the reload animation making your shots fire faster than normal reloading.
Contary to belief, I think Forts are likely the best way for a new player. You can learn the basis of combat, how firebombs and kegs work as well as a heavy stash of loot. Plus, Forts are one of the World Events that attract the LEAST amount of traffic so PvP chances are very slim as the loot offered is of so little value to experienced crew nowadays.
I got the game and after watching a few videos thought it was to toxic to play but watching this made me want to play again haha thanks for the tips and good luck on your travels
Excellent guide! The chronological fashion is charming. Only thing you missed is that new players tend to wait for their cannonballs to land before reloading
I picked up this game when it came out and had fun sailing for about one weekend, then the lack of content led me to leave it. Thanks for this update, SoT seems like it has much more going on now.
Very nice starter guide indeed. Me mates, back in the days instantly took my noob arse on a gold hoarder quest on my first day, witch they bought for ~150g. On a Brigg. And I felt so much lost searching for those crosses on islands I've never been to.
tbh i kind of like the idea of never really taking jobs but just drift from island to island picking up stuff and giving it to the faction that gives the most like a Nomad Pirate
Hey!
A lot of you guys commented that you picked up Sea of Thieves after watching my videos and were asking for some Beginner Tips. Well, here you go!
My best shot at a Sea of Thieves Beginner's Guide; I hope it helps!
@cliff the story guy u are the worlds best sot UA-camr
legend!
I don’t have sea of thieves but these videos make me want to get it but I have a question should I get sea of thieves even if I don’t have other friends who have it
My tips I used to give when teaching new players:
Thankyou. The video and this is very helpful.👍
Amen.

This was really useful, I’ve been playing sea of thieves for a while and even I didn’t know some of this
I was a bit worried about the community after reading some reviews. I bought the game two days ago, and have only had good experiences with other people. Someone helped me with the Kraken, I was boarded by someone and the left me a chest, and I had people come to my aid when I ran into an explosive barrel. This game has been nothing but fun, and you made it better.

For enemy types there are several other ones with their own quirks
Normal skeletons: Attack them in any way you want they dont have any quirks
Broken Skeletons: same as normal but way weaker they will die in like 3 sword hits
Shadow skeletons: Can be killed in daylight but shine a lantern on them when its night *when invincible you will notice they are kinda seethrough and you can go through them*
Gold skeletons: throw a bucket of water on them or lead them to water and then shoot them, they are way slower than other types so you can easily throw a firebomb at them
Plant skellies: slash them with your sword guns dont work as well on them, they also regenerate health in water/rain
FOTD Skeletons: You wont have to worry about those unless you are on a specific island and a specific player activated even is taking place they are same as shadow skellies but you have to shine specific light color on them depending on their own color
SPECIAL SKELLY: The ancient skeleton: this one very rarrely spawns on any island and gives you ancient coin, a currency you can only get from buying it with real money or getting them from the plunder pass you are at you will notice this sound of something going out of the ground and a noise similar to coins being shaken, locate this skeleton quickly (he is gold and blue and has a bag on his back) and attack it, the skellly will try to run away if it runs away for some amount of time it will go into the ground and disappear so quickly kill it,
there are some other skeletons that are just reskins of the standard white skeletons like white skeletons with some glowing bits
There are boss skeletons like the captains having just higher health having a name and captain clothes
and there are the skeleton lord/ashen lords which are actual bosses with multiple special attacks, really high health and more
Fun fact/tip for gold skellies in particular, on some islands you might be forced to fight them away from any water source. In this case pack some bait to munch on to induce vomiting. Hold out your bucket to gather it and voila, rusty skeletons.
@@dovahkat9635 I don't even bother with getting them rusted unless I have an ammo source nearby; easier to just firebomb them to death!
There are also phantoms, sirens, siren leaders, and three types of ocean crawlers

I've been solo slooping for my entire time on the seas, and recently another friend got the game, so this'll be super helpful for him. Thanks Cliff!

Yes this is exactly what I needed I’ve always wondered what I should do I’m new to the game and you are still my favorite UA-camr :)
Very similar to my own story of how we did Ashen Winds for the first time lmao
Hey Cliff thank you for posting I love your videos so much! I would like to say after a week of playing the game ... getting to know the "community" I personally think that Devils Roar is pretty fun to just go solo slooping in, I only found 1 other player in a 4 hour session and they seemed so distraught seeing me they just took off too. I think the harshness of devils roar can actually help train a player faster to learn how to avoid volcanoes, where to park the ship, how to run and repair. Most of all those things, explore and have fun, its a pretty big game to explore all of it. Thank you.
Me and my brother will be sailing the seas come April 30th wen this game drops on PS5. Can't wait for the fun adventures to come!

Sounds a lot better than my first impressions
I started playing the game about 1 month ago with a friend. We were both really new and had to learn the game first which we did really fast. We understood all events and that theres a difference between playing story voyages and others to level up the companys. We set our goal to reaching pirate legend with having in mind that it doesnt give us anything special but it was good thing to do. Now after 3 weeks me and my friend got the title of the pirate legend and were starting to just hang around on the seas and watch whats going on. So if you wanna start playing this game or just started just play and you'll understand a lot really fast.
Some people catch onto things faster than ones. Sometimes it's not a bad thing to get a leg up with some tips and explanations
@@CliffTheStoryGuy yeah yeah sure, my comment didnt have a direct connection to the video
It is great to have tips like that especially because most people are just starting and sailing around clueless
Cliff I got into Sea of Thieves because of your videos. Loving this game!
fun little fact about the tutorial: If you go to the shipwreck on the island you can find yourself on a treasure hunt that will lead to you getting A lot of money, no spoilers, but trust me when i say its a lot.
also funnily enough my first voyage was for a tier one free hoarder quest that came from dagger tooth outpost but went very well, you see after getting the chest i grabbed one of those deliveries from 5:23 for an extra buck, then after handing in the chest while on route to the destination for the package I found some floating loot which included: a seafarer chest, multiple storage barrels and a gunpowder barrel which got me pretty good money.
You know what, I actually kind of like this guidance-giving, knowledge-sharing iteration of Cliff.

Wow, this video was very good and somehow more interesting! Great job dude! Keep it up and your legacy shall be remembered👍
Wish I had this tutorial when I started, though I had a friend who helped a lot.
Also congrats on getting legendary kraken hunter.
Another thing you might see later when playing the game is different phrases in PvP such as
Backtrack- you missed but the hit detection counts it as a hit
Sandbag/oneball- you killed someone with a cannonball
Hitreg- you hit someone but it does no damage (rare please fix this it's been years)
Nosing- meaning a ship is sailing towards your broad give you an opportunity for chaining their masts
Cliff is an amazing youtuber! His videos are so entertaining! UA-cam wouldn't be the same without him.
11:17 There Are A Few Other Variants
Plant Skeletons: Heal In Water But Weak To Sword
Crew Skeletons: Tankier Island Skeletons
Island Skeletons: No Clothing Or Special Features
Skeleton Lords: Ashen Lords With Less Powerful Moves
Congrats on 100k we'll all be here when you soon hit 1M!!
Been having a hard time getting into Sea of Thieves (I'm a solo player, so hard mode), but I recently discovered that fortresses are fairly easy with a pretty decent payday. For those that are worried about losing the gold to another crew, fortresses are a decent option due to the lower time investment.

@Spadomur it will have crossplay but i think ps5 players might start with safer seas so womp womp

It's always a good day when cliff posts

very informative and helpful, I sure wish I had this when I was a newbie back in 2020
when you get into a fight like the first one you saw in this video take down the masts and keep them down, shoot holes into the hull and then shoot blunderbombs at the canons until they stop shooting you after that focus shooting more holes on the hull and mix in more blunderbombs because if you hit someone behind the wall with a blunderbomb they will get knockback and it will cancel the repairs.

Instead of letting it explode, make a hole in your ship and set the chest in the lower deck so it's always submerged in water 🤓
(Edit) I didnt watch that clip all the way and I am just now hearing you explain the concept I just gave 💀
Only 30 seconds in and I can already tell this is the best tutorial I will watch today. All the other tutorials make it seem like you have a lot of knowledge of the game thus far.
The legend has uploaded 💪
0:01 and that was your first mistake
Although I'm not new and I know how to play. It's gonna be useful for my friends. So I'm gonna make sure to send it to them. To be honest they don't really know how to play and rely on me to progress. Some of them are quite new. Great video.

It was also really cool just to re live that time when you were completely new to this game and to have a helpful tutorial like this definitely helps 😃
What do you do in the roar?
Yeah I know there are some good PvE grinds in the roar but that's best left for experienced pirates
Disney Sticks = Big PvE stonks

So glad i joined the discord bc i got an notification immidietly soooo i guess another video i got somthing for my tursday now !
I'm always anticipating your videos, keep up the great work
You don't need to block first to sword lunge.
The block makes you do the advanced sword lunge
And lights really don't matter
As a new SOT player this video was incredibly helpful
Love Ashen Winds (except when it's on Shipwreck Bay. you can miss me with that one)
so i don't like the ashen winds due to how crappy the loot can be (then again i have 800 hours and have almost everything maxed XD) but ye i can agree with everything here, i would saw do flameheart as naval combat is really important!

Thanks for the new upload! Sorry i am late, had to make some Fischstäbchen first!
Delicious
I picked up this game when it came out and had fun sailing for about one weekend, then the lack of content led me to leave it. Thanks for this update, SoT seems like it has much more going on now.
i literally just bought the game 5 seconds ago now this is the first guide im watching. i hope i learn more
Very nice starter guide indeed.
Love u Cliff! Favourite SOT UA-camr!
