This video reminded me of a time that I had an Athena keg stowed away up in my crow's nest during a Thieves' Haven run. I was doing the map and didn't realize the storm was near me till I heard a giant explosion from the other side of the island. Learned an important lesson about kegs that day lol
One time our crew had about 8 barrels up in the crows nest. It got struck by lightning and the explosion crashed my game. So yeah we don't mess with the barrels anymore.
I had all barrels from forune fort, 2 "nukes" 2 fort barrels and normal one, and quess what. A storm right near outpost. 1 lightning and galeon was nearly gone, it survived bcs barrels were in the crows nest, it still made tier 3 holes and if my all friends died we would be shipless. The best part is thah i was on shore not looking at the ship. It was freaking hillarius when I heard a lightning, a huge explosion and my screen froze for a second or 2, I look back and the ship is burning with all sails down XD
I once undershot a chainshot at an approaching vessel. Disheartened, I began prepping the next shot when the first connected with the pile of kegs on their bowsprit, killing one of them.
Just wanted to throw out the fact that the Thieve's Haven run DOES infact guarantee an athena gunpowder barrel. On the final map for dig locations one of the digs will cause a skeleton carrying one to spawn, just as you found unknowingly at 8:02
Cliff, the Thieves Haven run absolutely has a 100% spawn for a keg. @@eliaspanayi3465 Yeah, also because a Galleon has a 4 player crew, and it needs those extra holes to do real damage. 2 holes per person. That's why the galleon has so much to manage, it'd be unfair otherwise.

This channel made me try Sea of Thieves for the first time in almost 2 years. I have no idea what 99% of the new shit is/does, but somehow even with spending 4 hours hopping crew-to-crew on galleons as we do a single voyage or event, turn in loot, then everyone logs... I'm the only person who's a Pirate Legend on the crews. It took my last crew 30 minutes to turn in loot from a skeleton fleet because they REFUSED to turn in while a sloop slowly circled around us taking shots at max cannon range, despite knowing the guy on the sloop was alone. Eventually I got tired of trying to explain why there's no need for 4 people to sit on the galleon, missing shot after shot (my aim was trash too ngl) when we had level 5 gold hoarder emissary and a bunch of chests to sell. So I started taking the loot to sell it, and sword-dashing to the sloop whenever he got too close. However, my teammates would always get off cannons the second I said I was aboard the sloop and had killed the guy, so they never actually sank him. As we got near done selling, he got bored and sailed away but was immediately met by Karen and sank.

7:13 yeah, I use something called merfolkslullaby to see where the storm is and where it is going. Otherwise this happens to me all the time. Not a hack or anything but an app since the storm location is the same in every server
The two most scary things in sea of thieves, sailing through a strom with a keg on board, and someone telling you that they have put an athena keg on your ship
Cliff: Blows up some random ship with a biggest keg in the game Owner of that ship: "Im just gonna dig up some chest.....wait.....WHY DID MY SHIP EXPLODED?!"
Challenge: you cannot kill anybody or fire cannonballs/anything not a flare from your ship cannons, and if they hit your ship with a cannonball, you send them all of your loot by scuttle, rowboat or dumping it into the sea. You must sell a single haul of 100k to succeed the challenge. Why not make it even harder and say you have to detonate a Normal keg every 30 minutes after the hour mark. Enjoy your pain and suffering. Tip: i never said you can’t sink it by other means. :) (kegs or fortress cannons?)
If you want an even bigger bomb, I belive that the keg in the 6th tall tale (trickster) is like the nuke of the seas. When we tried it (a year ago) it blew every hole in our brigantine. (You can get the keg with a checkpoint)
I remember completing a FoF and as we opened the vault a tucker ran for our galleon with an athena keg, a swung on him just in time and every single keg on the island exploded as well as knocking our ship a bit. Truely cataclysmic
I’ve very recently gotten in this game and lemme say you’ve earned the sub. While my current tactic is to lay low and earn myself some experience, I respect the approach and giving them a chance to communicate before death. In my first probably 4 hours of playing I‘ve been blown up, shot at, killed, and robbed so many times with no chance to try to speak.
I just starting playing sea of thieves, and you taught me a lot of things the tutorial didn’t. Your content is something I watch whenever i’m bored. Thank you!
@@CliffTheStoryGuyi mean yeah, they were a sloop they had a numbers disadvantage and forsaw your ambush, and decided to cut their losses, seems fair to me
Man, I got into sea of thieves because of this dude and i've had my own share of troubles in the end I now have found new friends that I sail on a galleon with almost daily, I'm sure to reach pirate legend tomorrow with how things are going!
Finally a new video, keep up your good work and your channel is growing. I am new in sea of thieves and have 50h play experience but anyways enjoying watching your videos. :D
@@CliffTheStoryGuy Nah it's fine, you just have to be careful with it. The way I use them is, have the keg on board, make someone follow me, grab the keg, jump overboard, climb aboard the enemy's ship and boom. Instant profit. If things don't go my way, I just throw the keg overboard. It works 100% of the times that it doesn't go wrong!
My favorite keg story comes from a time where me and a buddy lost a fight with a toxic galleon and sunk with a decent amount of loot aboard. My friend and I were unwilling to concede just yet, so as a last hoorah we went to a fort and grabbed six kegs and loaded them on our sloop. We found the galleon doing a skull fort, rammed the ship after repelling a boarding attempt by them, and detonated the kegs. The galleon sank within seconds and we left them with a "you reap what you sow"
This reminds me of the silliest times I ever kegged someone. I sailed on up to an island at the southwest of the map (I forget the name), and wanted to act friendly, give the guy some supplies, etc. He didn't retaliate or act aggressive at all, and just went back to digging up his chest. On the way to his ship which was parked on the other side of the island, I noticed a golden (or rather red) opportunity sitting out in the open near some bushes - a keg. After a moment of deliberation, I decided to take the keg and pretend like I was still hoisting supplies over to his ship, and then I blew it! The ship sunk within a minute and I had no problem besting the surprised bilge rat in combat. I don't know how new the player was, but he was digging up some captain's chests so I think he had at least a dozen or so hours under his belt. Needless to say, he learned a valuable lesson about not trusting every "friendly" pirate you meet and not leaving any kegs within an island's radius of your boat! XD Thing is, if that keg wasn't there, I actually would've just given him my supplies and logged off for the night as per my plan. But greed got the best of me, and I deceptively destroyed his ship instead. I'm still not sure whether I should feel bad about it tbh.
I always love a good Kegging have some Videos here on YT and I want to say kegging a Galleon in a rowboat SOLO is the best. If you wanna see Cliff go take a look and take notes Galleon crew's are blind. Also Cliff try at Night time it helps you you got the sloop a Dawn so it kinda helps.
I have a great story with these barrels. Me and my friend had just completed one of the skeleton raids (which you get the black powder kegs and Athena chests) and as we were collecting loot a sloop came to kill us, so my friend snuck aboard with the keg and blew it up. After that I went aboard to set it on fire, and killed them a second time before dying. On the ferry they were toxic to me (keep in mind my tactic is spamming my sword and setting everything on fire), but the deed was done. Got back with the loot and sold! (If you read all of this, you are a legend)
Back when I was a mega noob I stored a bunch of loot in my cabin, including multiple normal kegs, and like 3 stronghold kegs and I was at the front of the boat as we drove past an enemy ship. My friend screamed and I swear the ship tipped vertically 90 degrees. I fell of turned around and it was to late. It turns out the other team shot a cannon ball through our window
This is the single best SoT channel I have ever encountered. Glad I've found you, because your content is very fun to watch and the quality is amazing!
A few days ago, a friend and I were duo slooping a FoF. We finished it with no trouble and decided to take the kegs aboard for more money (stashed in the crows nest.) We were sailing until something seemed... off. The music was not the typical sound. It was a kraken. Right after we finished a FoF, Rare gave us a kraken. We were on a sloop, so it wasn't THAT big of a threat, but it was still *terrifying*. We ended up killing it without it even hitting our ship at all. Didn't even stop for the meat, we made sure those athena and stronghold kegs were secure in the Reaper's hands, not ours.
I've a friend I play with sometimes who has a somewhat unhealthy obsession with collecting kegs and hiding them on the ship for laughs. The number of times we've been exploded because a stray cannon shot or bump into an island set them off, I cannot begin to remember. Since I play solo half the time, I've never attempted using kegs as traps, I just sell them, but I absolutely relate to the anxiety carrying kegs on the mast through a storm can bring. Also, I had no idea it was possible to defuse kegs once ignited. You learn something new every day!
@@CliffTheStoryGuy Oh when we play as a crew they often end up brigged, or occasionally blown up if we catch them with a keg sneaking towards the ship. Can't always catch them at it though. lol
My best friend who passed away last year loves this game, he used to play it all the time with his flatmate. I could never understand why he was so drawn to it, but I can see why now. Its a shame Dillon will never get to sail those seas again, never get fired out of a cannon, never be at the helm drunk and never sing another sea shanty. I just wanted to share a little bit of Dillion to you all so in a way he will be remembered.
I just realized how new you are to SoT and UA-cam. You are making great work. I’m sure you’ll make it big. I didn’t even realize how new you were until I watched a video where you pointed it out. You already have great quality so I didn’t catch that you are new.
Just a tip if you ever do Athena thieves haven voyages with a crew. Leave a guy on the island as you go do the other stuff on the other islands, that way when you finish your island he can immediately start digging up stuff on thieves haven, saves a bit of time Also if people have trouble with npcs spawning and them dying while you’re doing the other islands, go to the highest point of thieves haven. AI can’t get up there and you can see for a long distance to be sure no one else is coming.
CLIFF WHEN DID YOU PASS 100k CONGRATS 🍾🎉 Been with you since 17k and watched you blow up and genuinely thought that you were the most enjoyable SoT UA-camr. Congratulations bud
One of the first times my girlfriend played this game we were selling fish at Stephen's Spoils (she still loves Hunter's Call, she's trying to get pirate legend through them) and a duo Brigantine had just finished the Fort of the Damned. Part way through loading up loot they came over to our boat with a stronghold keg and dropped it on the deck! I heard them grab the ladder so I was quick to pick up, defuse, and moved the keg out of sight below deck; seemingly confusing the enemy pirate and giving me the opportunity to sword them to death before they could manually set it off. Since she was new to the game and we were playing on Xbox we agreed to avoid conflict, but this was not only an act of war, but we also needed to get this bomb off our boat! My girlfriend took off on her first time at the helm, hitting the dock a little, and I jumped off with the keg, directing her to lead the brig closer to me. I boarded, killed the remaining crew mate and myself in the explosion and then both of our ships sank; ours from the previous dock damage. It was now a race to Stephen's Spoils; and we had wind in our favor. The Brigantine spawned close enough that even with their wind disadvantage they were able to get to Stephen's Spoils just before us. However; we noticed that they had yet to load the two Reaper's Bounties from the fort, so we headed to the FotD and quickly grabbed them from the loot piled outside the door. Wind was pointed directly at us from the Reaper's Hideout so the Brigantine had no chance to catch us as we headed to sell. This was also during gold rush, so we got a cool 40,000 for handing them in, as well as getting to have fun with a stronghold keg.
I just watched your "this is pvp" video, and your comment on how doing a world event will surely atract people made me remember an advemture i had the other day. My friends and i loaded onto a new server and imediatly saw a FoF. When we got over there, it was on the second to last boss, there were 2 stronghold skulls there, i dont know how. We finished it, expecting to be chased. And..... nothing. Noone came after us. We got a free FoF amd a legend of the veil later. It was amazing
Now, I'm very sorry but I have a confession. Even though I have been playing sea of thieves before this channel was started, I still didn't know that you can defuse kegs. Who knew it was so simple!
First
Good job
Out of all the sea of thieves channels I've seen, this one is so much better than all the others
yooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo clif again a banger keep up man ( i havent watch it jet but i just know it is going to be a banger i got to eat first but im going to watch it after that)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lemme know if it ended up being a banger
@@CliffTheStoryGuy yes it was a bangger!!!!! but i have a few questions.
1. I saw you had a twitch but I don't know if you're still streaming and if you're still streaming, when are you going to stream?
2. do you think you will ever go live on youtube or not?
3. are you ever going to make a special of 100k subs? (I mean a video of about an hour or something)
if you want to respond/answer feel free but if you don't want to respond/answer that's fine too. i think you are the best storyteller ever keep it up!!!!!
The dopamine rush that you get from blowing up a ship with a keg is amazing
Eating and watching a new Cliff video at the same time...2022 isn't so bad
WIth stories this good you'd SoT would sponsor this man.
7:13 yeah, I use something called merfolkslullaby to see where the storm is and where it is going. Otherwise this happens to me all the time. Not a hack or anything but an app since the storm location is the same in every server
I used merfolkslullaby for merchant routes before
This man is the reason three of my recent videos have been Sea of Thieves content lmao. Good shit bro.
The two most scary things in sea of thieves, sailing through a strom with a keg on board, and someone telling you that they have put an athena keg on your ship
favorite sot youtuber keep up the great work :D
Love this theres not enough good sot UA-camrs like you
I think there's a lot of great SoT creators, it just depends on what you're looking for
@@CliffTheStoryGuy You will always be the best of the bunch
I love the captions! Keep up the hard work.
Cliff my boy, i just wanna say you make me want to go keep playing sea of thieves even if waiting for updates is boring lol you make it fun
I also can't wait for Season 7, coming up with new ideas using old content is getting really difficult lmao
@@CliffTheStoryGuy you gonna call your ship something like “The Crawling Dutchman?” Or Subscribe to Cliff The Story G”
Cliff: Blows up some random ship with a biggest keg in the game
Owner of that ship: "Im just gonna dig up some chest.....wait.....WHY DID MY SHIP EXPLODED?!"
Ur the only reason ik anything about sea of theives ur probably one of the best sea of theives youtubers
"I've never ignited them" ..... *laughs hysterically in Legendary Skeleton Bomber*
I love blowing up the keg stash in FoTD and FoF, the explosion beats any fireworks
Always best to expect the worst as a pirate
I just starting playing sea of thieves, and you taught me a lot of things the tutorial didn’t. Your content is something I watch whenever i’m bored. Thank you!
5:27, So your UPSET you got PLAYED. :D
That's an interesting takeaway lmao
@@CliffTheStoryGuyi mean yeah, they were a sloop they had a numbers disadvantage and forsaw your ambush, and decided to cut their losses, seems fair to me
I’m almost pirate ledgend by using your tips and you are my favorit sea of thieves youtuber
Go get that PL!!
Cliff i got PL
DUDE your content is 1 of a kind!!!!! keep it up bro!
Man, I got into sea of thieves because of this dude and i've had my own share of troubles in the end I now have found new friends that I sail on a galleon with almost daily, I'm sure to reach pirate legend tomorrow with how things are going!
Congrats on 150K Cliff!
Would be fun to revisit this concept now that you can easily farm athena kegs via the pirate legend voyage
It’s good night when cliff uploads
Finally a new video, keep up your good work and your channel is growing. I am new in sea of thieves and have 50h play experience but anyways enjoying watching your videos. :D
Im so happy you are getting more attention. I really hope you hit 500k by the end of the year!
Kegs are so underrated. To everybody who says "don't ever bring a keg on board" I can only say "git gud".
It legitimately is a bad idea the vast majority of the time, but the few times when it's not.. It can be very funny
😂 “do what we say, we have an Athena keg on your ship”
Them *dashes to doomed ship*
That was good!
Another legendary video
you know ur gonna have a good day when cliff uploads
A new video from Cliff? My day is saved
YES, another SoT story, keep it up good sir
Cliff I finally got pirate legend today! I’ve been a proud sub since you first started and your videos have taught me SO MUCH! Thank you Cliff!
The galleon sank within seconds and we left them with a "you reap what you sow"
the "you reap what you sow" line would've been even greater if they were flying the Reaper's Bones Emissary Flag lmao
all your vids are great, keep up the good work cant wait for the next one.
XD
Thing is, if that keg wasn't there, I actually would've just given him my supplies and logged off for the night as per my plan. But greed got the best of me, and I deceptively destroyed his ship instead. I'm still not sure whether I should feel bad about it tbh.
That dude definitely learned a valuable lesson that day
I always love a good Kegging have some Videos here on YT and I want to say kegging a Galleon in a rowboat SOLO is the best. If you wanna see Cliff go take a look and take notes Galleon crew's are blind.
Also Cliff try at Night time it helps you you got the sloop a Dawn so it kinda helps.
I rarely see Galleons tbh
@@CliffTheStoryGuy oof if you do... DO IT
I have a great story with these barrels.
It turns out the other team shot a cannon ball through our window
now that's what I call unlucky
Thanks for the awesome content!! Also, thanks Discord for getting me here early!!
“Let this be a lesson everybody, greed gets you killed…”😂
always quality content. appreciate it men!
But you hadn't watched it yet when you commented >:(
He doesn’t need to watch to know it’s a banger it’s from you for Christs sake
Always great when Cliff uploads
Cliff ur like legit one of my fav sot streamers
YESSS I WAS LIKED BY CLIFFFF
That friend of yours sounds like a prime target to be voted into the brig 😅
@@CliffTheStoryGuy Oh when we play as a crew they often end up brigged, or occasionally blown up if we catch them with a keg sneaking towards the ship.
Can't always catch them at it though. lol
“Lads, these normal kegs aren’t enough, it’s time to bring in, *the big one*”
Leave a guy on the island as you go do the other stuff on the other islands, that way when you finish your island he can immediately start digging up stuff on thieves haven, saves a bit of time
Also if people have trouble with npcs spawning and them dying while you’re doing the other islands, go to the highest point of thieves haven.
My other acc is the one it’s my old one it’s Laurie Anderson
This just shows that people coming to you is a lot easier than you going to other players. Good upload. Big boom
Giving them a reason to come to you usually works better than trying to chase them
One of the first times my girlfriend played this game we were selling fish at Stephen's Spoils (she still loves Hunter's Call, she's trying to get pirate legend through them) and a duo Brigantine had just finished the Fort of the Damned.
Nice one cliff, I have been messing with kegs recently too, mainly for commadations
Let'ssss gooooo a new video, I have been waiting forever
Now, I'm very sorry but I have a confession. Even though I have been playing sea of thieves before this channel was started, I still didn't know that you can defuse kegs. Who knew it was so simple! Thanks for the tip although it really destroyed my newly found ego from reaching pirate legend and well done for yet another amazing video!
as a newly voyager that "keeping yourself safe" got me for real
Your the only sea of thiefs youtuber i watch ahah🤣
