What always stood out to me at the beginning was the absolute balls it takes to walk across the battlefield within feet of the entire opposing army seconds after killing their most beloved champion. No matter how good you are, you're relying on your reputation and their honor alone to keep them from tearing you apart.
back then , " shame" could actually get you "minecrafted". if they did , they'd be known as " the COWARDS who broke a pact of 1-v-1 combat , ganged up on him , etc... You have to realize, like with most animals, if you take out the Alpha male, the rest will hesitate to attack and might even retreat, even though logically, there's huge strength in numbers! Would you be next to swing your sword at Achilles knowing you will die so your army buddies will eventually get him? Most people wouldn't! Same thing in a bank robbery with one criminal with 1 gun that has 6 bullets and there's 26 other people there: he could only shoot 6 max yet not everyone attacks together to stop the criminal, everyone just obeys!
I like how in the Illiad, that when Paris is losing the fight, THAT'S when Helen all of a sudden falls out of love with him. The gods are funny like that huh? 😂
I love how in the Ilias after Aphrodite(if i remember right) save him with some magic fog of her and take him from the Battleground and was later found in his Chambers and have Fun while every Trojan Man is slaughtered or fight and kills Greeks. Man, in the Film and in the Ilias... *F* Paris! :D
According to mythology, the arrow that pierced Achilles' heel was released from the bow of Paris, but it is said to have been guided by Apollo himself. According to some, Achilles was killed by Apollo himself or an arrow of Apollo who took the form of Paris. Because Achilles removed Apollo's head from the statue in the movie we saw.
According to Enneas myth? I think that could be partially true, in that among the tribes that founded Rome, why not one of them being some decendants of Troy. However, must keep in mind that saying "you come from Troy", same as saying your family is related to heroes of the mythological era, was something many would claim in antiquity even if it is not true. It made them feel proud and classy. Figure how this habitude went so far that some people even claim that the nordic Odin of the Sturluson Eddas is supposed to come from Troy.
The legend was that Aeneas travelled to the hills of Rome and began what would grow into the Roman Empire bearing the sword of Troy. My very favorite Homeric story is the Odyssey---the adventures of Odysseus traveling back to Greece. I would LOVE to see a great modern production of that.
@@johannesvalterdivizzini1523 There’s actually an adaptation coming out this year called The Return! It hasn’t gotten a lot of press but it looks good! Based on the runtime it’ll definitely abridge stuff but Uberto Pasolini is a really interesting director, so I’m looking forward to it
This dramatization plays a lot with historical fact. Agamemnon's brother Menelaus gets his wife Helen back. The City of Paris France is named after Paris, for love. The survivors of Troy went first to Carthage. Queen Dido fell in love with the leader of the survivors. Kingdom of his own. They went on to take over the Italian peninsula and become Romans. Best subjugating incorporating the Etruscan.
That’s a common misconception. It’s likely derived from Germanic and the English word “quell” (to stem or put a stop). it first appears in Middle English. The Trojans were Hellenic Asia Minor races. They spoke the same language and believed in the same Gods. In reality it was not a conflict of Greeks with another people, but of Greek sexes among themselves:The Achaeans who dominated central Greece centered in Mycenae and Greco-Pelasgian races of Asia Minor (Ionians, Phrygians, Chares) who dominated Asia Minor centered in Troy. A kind of civil war that is, as happened later in the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta
This movie lies alot you know. For example, Ajax didn't lose and die in his battle against Hector. The battle was a tie. And both warriors developed respect for each other. In fact Hector gave Ajax his sword because he was impressed with his skill and courage.
The story goes that his mother, Thetis, made him invulnerable by dipping him in the River Styx while he was still an infant. Thing was he was held by the ankle as he was dipped in, he was all but invincible bar his ankle which was his only weak point. According to legend, the Trojan prince Paris killed Achilles by shooting him in the heel with an arrow.
