This is a really good Skeptic video. All the worries are solid and they aren't exactly enough to solidify that it'd be terrible or the best thing to ever exist.
I've watched about a good dozen video's now about Starfield and with exception of some video that literally just explain what we're looking at, this video is the next worst one. Comparisons being made that are extremely subjective at best, completely irrelevant at worst. The only true concern that was briefly talked about was the procedurally generated loop and what that means for exploring planets while not having vehicles or other crafts for traversing the terrain. But outside of that... relatively worthless commentary.

The main story for this game is directed by Will Shen, who did Far Harbor which was really good, so I hope the little information we've received is due to not wanting to spoil it, as opposed to it being very simple
Honestly, Bethesda never really spells out the main story for any of their games leading up to release. Skyrim was the only one that I can remember that gave the clearest picture of what was going on. You're dovahkin, you're killing dragons, there's nords
I still can’t understand how people don’t see harbor as a reskin of the main story line. 3 factions, one is turning people into synths another hates the other 2 factions and lastly the more idle neutral faction unless persuaded to take the offense. Institute/railroad, BoS, minutemen. Though the side quest for far habor was amazing.

This is obviously pretty wishful thinking but I am pretty hopeful about starfield. The direct showcase was so transparent that I think that they truly do want to release a finished game. Also I think that starfield is Bethesda's last opportunity to reestablish themselves as one of if not the best developer game studio. Their last few games haven't done very well so starfield is a prime opportunity to make a comeback.
If Bethesda is trying to establish itself as the best video game studio then it's a guarantee that they will fall short, people liked their previous games because they are easy to play and can be fun to explore when you first play them. In my opinion, don't expect Bethesda to reinvent anything, they have shown that they are consistant in their game design and Starfield will probably be a lot like their previous games.
Idk about one of the best. Bethesda games have always been pretty meh. What makes Bethesda kings in the market is their modding community, imo. They let their users do whatever they want and it really extends the shelf lives of their games. I have a feeling that Starfield is going to be worth the hype. If anything, Bethesda knows how to make an addicting game
@@jase276Bethesda games are as meh as you make them. The reason their games are so popular is because they let you do basically anything you want. Saying their games are onky popular because of mods is a huge overstatement and a disservice to the developers. Skyrim sold 3.8 million PHYSICAL copies in 48 hours. There were zero mods back then. Also, how have Bethesda games sold on Playstation at all if people only play them for the mods? You can't mod them on PS. And modding isn't that much better on Xbox either; the mods that you can get on xbox don't make the game better, they only add content

I thought I knew how to play Fallout 4….then I got my gf into it. She spent hundreds of hours making bases, building settlement supply lines, and making her own vault look like the coolest Fallout vault youve ever seen! Over time Fallout 4 had so much more to offer beyond the surface and im excited to see how Starfield adds or twists on it.
I had the same experience. Fallout 4 is my wife's favorite game of all time and it's hilarious to see the crazy things she does with modding and settlements. I'll buy her Starfield just for that alone, hardly even care about playing it myself.
Fallout 76 was the game that killed my ability to get excited for games, and Cyberpunk broke my heart when it launched...but I'm praying that Starfield is the game that can let me trust again
Yeah, it's probably per-object motion blur, which is blur added selectively to objects. One easy example is the barrels of the minigun in Eternal spinning up, there's a deliberate stylistic blur added to make it look more intense. So, them helping Bethsoft on blur isn't too crazy.
I really like how you kept the momentum of the topic going even with comedic moments. Most creators try to force the jokes onto you but this was spot on
You make content that genuinely surprises me that you’re not huge yet. Keep it up! Also I didn’t even think about the graphics disparity with this title, thank you for illuminating me
Finally, an honest take on Starfield without all the fanboy hype train. I'm excited, yes, but I also remember this is Bathesda we're talking about with a proven track record of releasing games with a supersized serving of bugs.
@@miguellopez3392 mind boggling that such a big studio is lacking on that front. Like, you should be able to pull some of the best talent in the world at that level. I feel similarly about FromSoftware. Like, how can a studio THAT successful not be able to get a couple skilled guys that can make sure their frame rate and frame pacing isn’t so terrible?! ESPECIALLY now after Elden Ring’s success. If their next big game STILL has performance issues, that’ll be super disappointing. With all the money from Elden, there’s NO WAY they can’t hire a few experts to sort their performance issues. ESPECIALLY given that FromSoftware games are not very graphically intensive. They’re certainly not known for their graphics.
I agree to most of this, however, the base building/decorating is kind of funny to me, i like that there atleast is the option to be as detailed as you want, even just for yourself and the npc's you banish to your barren wasteland moon where you mine moonrocks to buy extra cargo for your ships. But that's about it, i am carefully excited about it :)
1. Cut the amount of planets down by three quarters 2. Merge multiple planets together and call them different biomes 3. Generate 3x more content per planet for like 250 planets = profit
This perfectly encapsulates why I love Bethesda games, the issues I have with space exploration games, and my concerns from what we’ve seen so far. Well done!
The funny thing is we have ALL the tools to build a REALLY good space explo but all those tools are in like five different games and no one seems to be able or willing to put them together. Todd couldn't even identify them so thats not a good start.
The graphics complaint is legit. The character cutscenes from Baldur's Gate 3 has completely raised the bar for me for what character models can both look like and ACT like. It's the natural, dynamic body movements that makes the characters feel real, and it's so sad to see the Bethesda cutscenes where they just... stand there. And i knowwww the voice acting for starfield won't be anywhere close in quality to BG3. I know they're not the same type of RPGs but for the amount of time Bethesda has worked on this game, i would hope for more emotion in the characters
They use a completely different engine. Different engine = Pro's and con. Its better in some ways (gameplay (possibility to do fps) / modification (mods)...) and worse in others (Character animation / graphics...). The Divinity engine is newer than the Creation engine so logically better. A bit unfair to compare the two.
The standards were raised for a few months with bg3 but then they crashed hard after this game, the devs were right when they said we shouldn’t expect this to be a new standard, just a anomaly, starfield is more like the new standards, bland boring slop with countless bugs they are too lazy and incompetent to fix
You've touched on everything that popped into my head as I watched the deep dive and just like you, despite these glaring flaws and doubts I'm still looking more forward to Starfield than I have any other game in a long time. My friends and I have discussed this extensively. After Spore in '08 I've gained a sixth sense in knowing when a game is going to disappoint. I call it the Wee-Woo Meter, it's a logarithmic scale. This one registers as a 6.2 on the Wee-Woo Meter, it's going to be disappointing but still enjoyable. It's going to sell like hotcakes and then a month later everyone is going to complain that it's really not that great.
You might need to add more batteries to your meter after this year's games... I totally understand that sixth sense feeling, though. No idea where the intuition came from how how to explain it.
Bro the level of information I can gather you when it comes to gaming is crazy, and it's because you entertain along the way and keep me interested. You have such a bright future in this UA-cam world. Thanks for the many laughs, the knowledge, and I wish you and your family the very best.

Been intentionally keeping myself in the dark on this game, but had to watch your video on it. It was like watching a kid get excited about Skyrim, or maybe that's just how I feel now :)
I'm most excited for what the modding community is going to make. Can you imagine what people are gonna do with how easily they could just make a "point of interest pack" or "creature parts pack" or "gun parts pack" and next thing you know the game is full of a _ludicrous_ amount of cool things to explore and find.
That's the part I'm most anxious about. How moddable is that first iteration of the Creation Engine 2 ? There was a real difference between rough but moddable Skyrim and more sophisticated but rigid Fallout 4. There's a reason why Bethesda has been able to keep a player base for more than 10 years with Skyrim. If the Creation Kit only allows us to reskin a few weapons or ship parts, or forces the Creation Club on us once again, it's not going to fare well.
@@the_arcanum well, bethesda knows the importance of the modding community. they have said it will be very moddable, and it will come with modding tools of its very own.

I suppose Mass Effect is a popular space game that showed what you can do with the mystery of a space game, at least in the first game before it all went tits up. But another one that's far more niche that I think most of these games could learn from is Escape Velocity Nova. Multiple factions with their own storyline that is a full game in of itself, with each having its own flavor. From being an almost indentured servant to the space-CIA as a telepath constantly doing spycraft and betrayals, to leading various navies in epic wars and politicking, there's so much potential for storylines in a big space setting, but it feels like these games almost always squander it. It's funny how in ME especially while the Reaper mystery was cool at first, some of the better parts of the setting were only gestured at rather than mined for their full potential, like all the politics & war that takes place in the setting being purely in the background, rather than something you can take part in. I get it's hard to produce this spectacle in a game, and that's why Skyrim's civil war amounted to almost nothing too, but "it's hard to show cool stuff" really shouldn't be an excuse for dropping the ball, especially when it comes to AAA titles.
The gunplay has been the same since Fallout 3. It’s been improved drastically with FO4. Enemies have always had no reactions to being shot. You can shoot guys with a 10mm pistol and if they’re melee, theyre gonna chase your ass down.
Also, open-ended games exist. Kenshi has no main story and it’s a great game. Star Wars Galaxies was an open ended mmo where you could be anything from a moisture farmer to a bounty hunter. I’d be fine if this game was open ended as well. I wish there were more AAA open-ended games.

@@kylio95 I was literally feeling the same way but I'm really hoping the main quest line has....... has something to do with the alien artifacts and that serptend thing the serpent faction leader says he saw during a jump ;) Finding out about these two details today reeled me all the back way in, annoyingly!
Extremely compelling and story will not be found together in a Bethesda game. They are allergic to writing a good comprehensive narrative.
@@Maximilian-Schmidt Realistically, this is a modern perspective. Modded Skyrim for 2011 I think was amazing, but to each its own.
My problem with Bethesda is not wanting to learn anything from better companies, like FromSoft and keep making the same games. If they released Skyrim today, it would of course be laughable.

@@jase276 exactly
Far Harbor was very good. It was the one questline in FO4 I actually finished.

Being a skeptic always proves me right these days. Hyping something up always ends up the way Cyberpunk or Fallout 76 did.
No, not _always_ ( for example, Baldur's Gate 3 lived up to the hype), but often times yes.
The difference is the hype behind Baldur’s Gate was not unfounded. People had already been playing early versions of that game for years.

Then again..... Cyberpunk had a showcase....
I might as well be the future when I tell you newsflash it won’t

21:46 motion blur is actually really hard to do well - and when it is done well I actually like using it. I'm glad that they worked on it.
Yeah, it's probably per-object motion blur, which is blur added selectively to objects. One easy example is the barrels of the minigun in Eternal spinning up, there's a deliberate stylistic blur added to make it look more intense. So, them helping Bethsoft on blur isn't too crazy.
First thing I turn off in a game, never seen it done correctly.
Why would anyone keep motion blur on though.

Yep, animations, character faces and voices as well as PC performance are my main worries about the game.

This one registers as a 6.2 on the Wee-Woo Meter, it's going to be disappointing but still enjoyable. It's going to sell like hotcakes and then a month later everyone is going to complain that it's really not that great.

Even Andromeda was good comparatively and no one who was into Mass Effect was too stoked about andromeda.

Well...now that Starfield out we find out ALL spacetravel is FAST TRAVEL.....no need for a ship really for it has no purpose but the fact you need one in a space game.
Starfield is a true Bethesda JOKE
While I fly around having space battles and landing on plants seamingless on no mans sky
14:38 I have to disagree it looks way better than any of their previous games to date.
Great video! Clearly expresses a lot of the same worries I have about Starfield. Looking forward to your review once the game is out!
22:40 what you didn’t understand about them showing off her doing that was they were putting all those sandwiches down from multiple ship battles and during that whole time the sandwiches have stayed in place and not flung around the ship.
Meaning you can do that with any item in your ship which you are constantly moving and interacting with while not needing to worry about the items if your decorating with actual items
Does it though? Or did they stage it? People keep giving this studio unlimited credit for headcanon, no matter how often we find out this stuff was faked or lies.
@@KevinJDildonik lol you don’t know anything about Bethesdas open world single player games then.
The world have been this way sense Morrowind. This is not new but the spaceship and vehicles in general are very new. The closet you can get is horses in Skyrim and oblivion which isn’t even remotely the same.
I personally love setting up bases and outposts...I spent hours doing that in Fallout. Its super fun. But I get it its not everyones cup of tea. But at the same time ( because of my creative side) I'm like "whaaaatt?"
In Fallout 4, I felt like I was able to roleplay a scavenger better than any other Fallout game. Is it any surprise the most popular Fallout 3/New Vegas mods made their way into Fallout 4 officially? Fallout 4 really delivered in many aspects, I love the game. I was so glad to ignore the story and just mind my own business, explore, and defend my home in an interesting sandbox world
My boy was correct!
This is going to be the Star Wars: Galaxys Edge of video games
