Nothing like Bethesda. Why make a game when you could have an experience and why have fun when you could just have the illusion of fun! And why create anything when everyone else is already creating, apparently.
FO76 was garbage at first but I just played it again and it felt like a different game. It’s actually not bad from a survival/shooter/lore perspective. Some of the quests like “That sunken feeling” were super cool and memorable. Also some features like the scrap system and Legendary effect mods greatly improved on FO4 imo. They just butchered the RPG elements and charging to store unlimited scrap is ridiculous. My biggest complaint is having to pay for live just to pay for Fallout 1st so I don’t have to play with people on live. Was worth it tho cuz I got to experience the whole story solo and that made it better until I got to a higher level and started doing events. So the game is fun as long as you don’t expect it to be like FO3 or FONV.
@@martymcyourflysdown6872 At least it has actual dialogue choices that depend on your special build. That alone elevates it above FO4 for me. 4 has better mods tho.

I still can’t understand how people don’t see harbor as a reskin of the main story line. 3 factions, one is turning people into synths another hates the other 2 factions and lastly the more idle neutral faction unless persuaded to take the offense. The graphics complaint is legit. The character cutscenes from Baldur's Gate 3 has completely raised the bar for me for what character models can both look like and ACT like. It's the natural, dynamic body movements that makes the characters feel real, and it's so sad to see the Bethesda cutscenes where they just... stand there. And i knowwww the voice acting for starfield won't be anywhere close in quality to BG3. I know they're not the same type of RPGs but for the amount of time Bethesda has worked on this game, i would hope for more emotion in the characters
They use a completely different engine. Different engine = Pro's and con. Its better in some ways (gameplay (possibility to do fps) / modification (mods)...) and worse in others (Character animation / graphics...). The Divinity engine is newer than the Creation engine so logically better. A bit unfair to compare the two.
The standards were raised for a few months with bg3 but then they crashed hard after this game, the devs were right when they said we shouldn’t expect this to be a new standard, just a anomaly, starfield is more like the new standards, bland boring slop with countless bugs they are too lazy and incompetent to fix
Finally, an honest take on Starfield without all the fanboy hype train. I'm excited, yes, but I also remember this is Bathesda we're talking about with a proven track record of releasing games with a supersized serving of bugs.
@@miguellopez3392 mind boggling that such a big studio is lacking on that front. Like, you should be able to pull some of the best talent in the world at that level. I feel similarly about FromSoftware. Like, how can a studio THAT successful not be able to get a couple skilled guys that can make sure their frame rate and frame pacing isn’t so terrible?! ESPECIALLY now after Elden Ring’s success. If their next big game STILL has performance issues, that’ll be super disappointing. With all the money from Elden, there’s NO WAY they can’t hire a few experts to sort their performance issues. ESPECIALLY given that FromSoftware games are not very graphically intensive. They’re certainly not known for their graphics.
I agree to most of this, however, the base building/decorating is kind of funny to me, i like that there atleast is the option to be as detailed as you want, even just for yourself and the npc's you banish to your barren wasteland moon where you mine moonrocks to buy extra cargo for your ships. I mean..Skyrim is a nobrainer. People always say how bad it is and how many flaws it has but Skyrim is objectively one of the best games ever released and a game that shaped an entire generation. Playing it now may not be as rewarding and satisfying as back then but if you never played it and keep in mind that it is an older game, then you will have insane fun.

Nope it’s sitting at a 86 with countless fans calling it a 10/10 masterpiece, this has shown us that you can get away with pulling a cyberpunk as long as you have a loyal enough obsessive fanbase
I fully expect that whole "over a 1000 planets" to be one of the biggest of technical truths, but the way I see it, as the man almost speaking english also explains, is that instead of going off the path in skyrim and finding a random cave, I will just land on a planet and have a few random caves or other points of interests spawn in. Like instead of having all the points of interest and random events on the same big map, they can spawn in on lots of little procedurally generated maps on random planets. It is all smoke and mirrors, but I think/hope it will still give that sense of exploration I love in Bethesda rpgs.
From what i understand Creation engine 2 is the main problem for Starfield. It can handle building stuff and generating planets but still stinks at graphics, motion capture, faces, locomotion etc.. They should've started from scratch with the engine
Thank you Jack for sharing your thoughts, and making me laugh. I thought your rocket noises were spot on. Iam kind of 50/50 on this game. And its release date is September 6th and i haven't see any pre orders for it.
Competely agree. I am cautiously interested. I might play on PC at some point if it's good but BG3 is keeping me entertained and honestly so is Elden Ring along with some great games from the 2010s like DOS2, WoW, Grim Dawn, FONV. I feel like a lot of the space exploration that this game is attempting is admirably fresh but the execution will be something we've already seen done well in Mass Effect, KOTOR, SWTOR, Elite: Dangerous, No Man's Sky, Outer Wilds etc. It could be good and I'm interested to see reviews, but Fallout 4 was just so dissapointing for me and nowhere near the quality or replayability of Skyrim. I'm optimistic there will be legit RPG features but I don't know if we will get a quality sci fi RPG but more likely an action game a la Witcher with RPG elements. That's what is seen as popular now but as we see with BG3 there is huge demand for hardcore features. A quality sci fi RPG from Harebrane, Larian, or Fromsoft could be amazing. I'm not confident Bethesda can pull it off anymore.
That point you make at 5:35 is probably The Best argument about how both CGI and Procedural Generated Environments can either work in favor or against its medium, it's absolutely true. As to the point about graphics I could not agree less, the game's cited, TLOU2 and RDR2 are famously known for crunching their developers for years just to get realistic leaves, pasture and step marks in the mud, I do not care about a realistic world that is not fun to play in, specially if the developers had to work themselves to death just to take my breath away for one second before I adjust to the graphics, I do hope, however, that the lack of focus on graphics compensates in amazing world(universe) building plus a great narrative, if it doesn't, then yeah it might not have been worth it to sacrifice the "realism".
I definitely have my doubts. Not even sure if I'll be buying on release day, as I don't think we'll be able to trust most pre-release reviews (per usual).
Little late but i 100% echo your thoughts on the graphics. For some reason Bethesda can't figure out how to make a character not look like a lifeless mannequin. The planets look alright in comparison.
Can't wait. I've been mostly a racing game player or WOW / WoT for the last, well since WoW came out. Of course, racing games were before the time of WoW. I've tried some other MMOs over the years but always went back to WoW. Over the last couple years, I've broken myself away from WoW finally and have started enjoying new games. I have played some RDR and want RDR2 and my friend used to come over with his XBOX back in the day to play Skyrim, and in all honesty, I always wanted to play it and other Bethesda games since and even my sister is a BIG Skyrim fan. With all that said, when I build my new PC a few weeks back, I got the free copy of Starfield and figured, "Sure, why not!" Now that it was included it made sense to research the game and OH WOW am I ever excited to play this game. Sadly, I had to RMA my 6800XT as it was a bad card and worried the new one won't be here in time, but when it does get here, I look forward to neglecting my health for a few weeks, though surely my wife will have something to say about that. The problem is, I want to play Baldur's Gate 3 really bad and it will be difficult to ballance my time with my family, being a manager, and these two games.
A lot of these points are just talking about how we haven't seen things and somehow that makes you worried. Like we saw three cities, did you want them to spoil all the cities for you? All the story? We've seen much more than most games at this stage.
My fear is that the less u handcraft the world and make it bigger, the more quests u need to fill it. So get ready for those “spacebase is under attack” or cave 1643 that looks like cave 534 with a random item
The way starfield is described is basically 1000 of those mass effect 1 mako rover levels (a few points of interest on a small segment of a planet) and a few hub cities. That sounds so boring to me, and realistically that's the only way this game can be.
@@Orinslayer Yeah, part of what made me love ME2 was that it ditched those for the most part. Yeah exploring a planet is cool, but when every planet is just some flavour text and a glorified dungeon, the luster wears off pretty quick.
@@Orinslayer I'm not saying that you're wrong tho. I haven't seen much about Starfield on purpose to avoid being hyped up. I think it would be absolute hilarious if just like our solar system, half of Starfield’s planets were gas giants, effectively making them giant JPGs in the sky.
Gas giants are actually solid, the pressure will compress the gas the closer you get to the planets core, so you have several layers of normal gas that get denser and at one point solid but the pressure would be so hight that a no living creature could survive. That could mean that we can fly in the layer that isnt solid of the planet but not land on it. It propably wont be in the game but Bethesda plans to create so many dlcs that we could get that later on
@@thomyt6159 We don't know if the core of Gas Giants are solid or ultra-compressed gaseous-liquids like pressurised soup, it's all theory until we can delve deeper with scans.

@@Maximilian-Schmidt Realistically, this is a modern perspective. Modded Skyrim for 2011 I think was amazing, but to each its own. This is a really good Skeptic video. All the worries are solid and they aren't exactly enough to solidify that it'd be terrible or the best thing to ever exist.
I've watched about a good dozen video's now about Starfield and with exception of some video that literally just explain what we're looking at, this video is the next worst one. This is obviously pretty wishful thinking but I am pretty hopeful about starfield. The direct showcase was so transparent that I think that they truly do want to release a finished game. Also I think that starfield is Bethesda's last opportunity to reestablish themselves as one of if not the best developer game studio. Their last few games haven't done very well so starfield is a prime opportunity to make a comeback.
If Bethesda is trying to establish itself as the best video game studio then it's a guarantee that they will fall short, people liked their previous games because they are easy to play and can be fun to explore when you first play them. In my opinion, don't expect Bethesda to reinvent anything, they have shown that they are consistant in their game design and Starfield will probably be a lot like their previous games.
Idk about one of the best. Bethesda games have always been pretty meh. What makes Bethesda kings in the market is their modding community, imo. They let their users do whatever they want and it really extends the shelf lives of their games. I have a feeling that Starfield is going to be worth the hype. If anything, Bethesda knows how to make an addicting game
@@jase276Bethesda games are as meh as you make them. The reason their games are so popular is because they let you do basically anything you want. Also, how have Bethesda games sold on Playstation at all if people only play them for the mods? You can't mod them on PS. And modding isn't that much better on Xbox either; the mods that you can get on xbox don't make the game better, they only add content

I had the same experience. Fallout 4 is my wife's favorite game of all time and it's hilarious to see the crazy things she does with modding and settlements. I'll buy her Starfield just for that alone, hardly even care about playing it myself.
My friends and I have discussed this extensively. After Spore in '08 I've gained a sixth sense in knowing when a game is going to disappoint. I call it the Wee-Woo Meter, it's a logarithmic scale. This one registers as a 6.2 on the Wee-Woo Meter, it's going to be disappointing but still enjoyable. It's going to sell like hotcakes and then a month later everyone is going to complain that it's really not that great.
You might need to add more batteries to your meter after this year's games... I totally understand that sixth sense feeling, though. No idea where the intuition came from how how to explain it.
Half of them are basic level coders that only got hired on to appease esg ratings and solely diversity hires, the few that actually know what they’re doing are overloaded with work
Starfield seems to follow all the tropes of previous Bethesda games, average graphics, but stunning environments, mediocre character models but with great characterisation, massive play areas, made with a crappy engine. It's basically everything we've come to expect from a Bethesda title, how it all comes together within the main storyline is what will make or break it though. I just wish they'd move on from the frankenstein Embryo/Creation engine, it was probably too late to move to UE5, but even UE4 would have been an improvement.
We all wish they'd move on, but they've been beating fallout and elders' corpses for fifteen years so fat luck on that hope. Maybe they could move on from ruining everything they touch and stop making games entirely.

I feel like a lot of people are going to get disappointed and it wont be well received. For me I knew that was going to be the case after watching that early gameplay trailer.
No matter how much do they update the engines, it keeps feeling like you're still playing Morrowind...
@@Pikilloificationcuz they need a new engine
@MisterK-YT you can do a lot with an old engine, problem is bathesda has always lacked capable programmers to upgrade it properly.
You're saying it like those bugs ever stopped people from enjoying the shit out of their games
I agree to most of this, however, the base building/decorating is kind of funny to me, i like that there atleast is the option to be as detailed as you want, even just for yourself and the npc's you banish to your barren wasteland moon where you mine moonrocks to buy extra cargo for your ships.
Totally agree on the graphics side, i feel like I won’t be able to play a ton because of the outdated feel of the graphics

I think they populate procedural worlds with handcrafted quests.
It looks like the administrator from half-life is making an appearance, so have to play just to tell him i'm gordon freeman and i'm back...
Oh dear. He's in for heartbreak.
Yea it was even worse then he thought
Little late but i 100% echo your thoughts on the graphics. For some reason Bethesda can't figure out how to make a character not look like a lifeless mannequin. The planets look alright in comparison.
Just don't preorder from shady companies like Bethesda. Wait a few weeks for the reviewes from real gamers (not gaming jornos)

Yes thank you! This is exactly how I feel
If I’m being completely honest, I am much more excited for The Outer Worlds 2 rather than Starfield lol
This has aged like fine wine.

Still want to make or find a Gas Giant Upper Atmosphere Gas Mine, and name it Threshold.
Let's hope there's no Parasites or Heretics though
Gas giants are actually solid, the pressure will compress the gas the closer you get to the planets core, so you have several layers of normal gas that get denser and at one point solid but the pressure would be so hight that a no living creature could survive. That could mean that we can fly in the layer that isnt solid of the planet but not land on it. It propably wont be in the game but Bethesda plans to create so many dlcs that we could get that later on

I think Starfield will need a Mass Effect-esque stake in the Galaxy if they plan on going big. Otherwise they need to write an extremely compelling "down-to-Earth" character story.

My boy was correct!
Then again..... Cyberpunk had a showcase....
I might as well be the future when I tell you newsflash it won’t
Idk about one of the best. Bethesda games have always been pretty meh. What makes Bethesda kings in the market is their modding community, imo. They let their users do whatever they want and it really extends the shelf lives of their games. I have a feeling that Starfield is going to be worth the hype. If anything, Bethesda knows how to make an addicting game
@@jase276Bethesda games are as meh as you make them. The reason their games are so popular is because they let you do basically anything you want. Saying their games are onky popular because of mods is a huge overstatement and a disservice to the developers. Skyrim sold 3.8 million PHYSICAL copies in 48 hours. There were zero mods back then. Also, how have Bethesda games sold on Playstation at all if people only play them for the mods? You can't mod them on PS. And modding isn't that much better on Xbox either; the mods that you can get on xbox don't make the game better, they only add content

Fallout 76 was the game that killed my ability to get excited for games, and Cyberpunk broke my heart when it launched...but I'm praying that Starfield is the game that can let me trust again
I feel like a lot of people are going to get disappointed and it wont be well received. For me I knew that was going to be the case after watching that early gameplay trailer. The game looks so ugly, everything visually looks dull and bland that grey plain colour palette. The combat looks even worse than fallout 4. it reminds me of cyberpunks combat.
This game looks so mediocre and I just know that its going to be boring to play, I just dont understand why so many people are still deludedly hoping this game will be a masterpiece? I hope people dont praise it and let them of with such a poor quality game
charging full for a mediocre AAA experience where baldur's gate is worth every penny, xbox dug its own grave even deeper
Looks like youre wrong
You were right that it’s mediocre but it didn’t get badly received since the fans are die hard unconditional supporters, so many shortcomings and problems that they just ignore
I’m not even 2 minutes in but thank you for making Starfield content that doesn’t just repeat what Todd already said 10 different ways.
right? lol I probably still did in some ways, but i tried not to!
