  • WHADDUP GAMERS. I'm brining you a fairly different video about what I think my dream game could look like someday. It popped into my brain while experiencing Bannerlord for the first time.. a great but flawed game. I know this video took ANOTHER SECOND to make, but I really hope you like it, life just keeps getting busy. Hoping this year I get to turn UA-cam into my primary focus ;) WE'LL SEE. Love you guys, bye.

Hey guys, just want to say thanks for watching my video! I've been reading as many comments as I can and love the feedback. Whether you agree or disagree with my dream game concepts, or have completely different dream game ideas, its making my brain cogs turn and also want to try new games you guys have mentioned... except kingdom come deliverance lol. Jk, I WILL have to give it a shot at some point... I'm sure it's.. less boring than it looks.. right?
Anyway, there's concepts I unfortunately had to cut for time, number 1 being a travel system, I legitimately want to hear ideas of how to create a functional AND fun way to get around in a BALLS type game. I'm not a huge fan of the overworld approach, I'd want to remain in third/first person most of the game and avoid being taken out of my character. BUT, how tf do you move around with 500 people lol.
An idea I had would be a proxy system where you ride around the open world with 1-9+ of your highest ranking officers that each represent approximately 50 soldiers. This would keep that intimidation aspect in Bannerlord, seeing a large party ahead of you, and I also think it'd add to the dynamic relationships to your army: Traveling with your senior leaders like a fellowship, small combat instances like bandits in a dark forest can be taken care of with just this party, AND having soldiers that are under the command of each officer, be able to replace them one day. I think it'd be so sick to promote a solider after a companion dies and have him be able to say "I'm Timarious Moonright, I served under the command of Dregg Griddlebayne for four winters, God rest his soul, you honor me with his rank M'lord".
What do you guys think of a travel system for BALLS?

      @derricktalbot8846 Рік тому +5

The idea of your constant presence in the world, where anywhere can be a battle field can really only work with your idea of "personal guard/retinue." One of the reasons Overworld Travel works so well is that there is no need to account for 1000's of persons everywhere all the time.
Keeping with the X strongest soldiers always with you theme, but still accounting for massive armies would be sort of like.... "summoning a horse"
You are out with your retinue, doing your thing, and BAM! Raiders/Bandits/opposing forces show up in the form of their own Leader+retinue, with the size dependent on overall composition. 1 Bandit? Probably just one guy... no need to summon troops. 4 Armed mercs? Maybe your X number of retinue can chase off these leaders..... things escalate? they call in more, you call in more... and round we go until both leaders have started a full scale battle in the middle of Randomplace, Anywhere.
The transition from "just here fighting leadership on leadership" to "OK FINE, lets do this" is mechanically done the same way "summoning a horse" is done in some games... you whistle/fire a shot/make a signal... and from outside of your vision, there comes a horse that is now being accounted for by the simulation. The individual people following your now become leaders of entire groups.... so the commands one is able to give should probably stick very close, regardless if that order is going to just the follower, or when the follower becomes a leader+X men.
That would reduce the weight on the simulation, but still have all of your troops within a reasonable distance available at anytime. It would either require a HUGE world with very little "uniquely rough terrain"... or a fine tuned summoning system, tailored not for rapid deployment into the battle, but rather to a viable position for X number of troops to be in the first place.
You are with your followers in a mangrove forest, because X resource is found here, or because it is unique and beautiful. You see an equal number of warriors approach, and rather than even attempt to get this done quick, you "summon a horse" BUT! they show up at the edge of the mangrove forest, already in formation and on ground where they can move in that formation. The simulation is now including them in calculations, but even if you cant see them, you are down 1 follower, and his troops respond to orders all the same. That gives the player the choice then of "lets take this outside, where there are no leeches." or "I fancy a crazy battle in this crazy place." Still gives the player the freedom to either engage in a normal setpiece battle, or stuffing 200 soldiers into a swamp meant for 10 :)... that would also give birth the the tactic of sacrificing troops to hold an enemy somewhere, while your main force repositions/maneuvers to take advantage of a large force only able to come at you in small numbers at a time.
YUP!.... I think any reality, where your BALLS game does not exist, should not be allowed to continue. So now you're going to have to save us all and get Rockstar to give birth to the first iteration of this type of world for us to play in.

Just wanna say i think your videos are really awesome. the fast cut comedy references are wholesome. its always cool to listen to someone passionately talk about what interests them, and you have good taste in games too. I know it might seem bit dated now but have you ever considered playing xcom? i feel like its the kind of game you would really really enjoy especially as your troops follow you through game and you build personal relationships with them and you feel bad when they get wiped out, just a suggestion though! keep the videos coming this channel is a diamond in the rough!

The plains maps are actually a feature, the battlefields you find yourself fighting on are actually a representation of where you were on the world map itself. So if you’re next to a bridge on the world map, you’ll be fighting on a bridge in the battle. You’re next to a big city on the world map, that city can be seen in the background of the battlefield.

Half of the enemies will probably get stuck on a twig while you kill one of them and then the other half have to pause movement after like 2-5 steps before going for another 2-5 steps or just masterstrike spamming your enemies into the dirt. The ai could definetly be improved, but I still loved the game. Reminds me of gothic in the way you start off getting your ass kicked by even the easiest of enemies, to a total badass just massacring anybody standing in your way. Summary of the dream game:
    1. 11:55 Bannerlord base
    2. 12:22 Low fantasy Game of Thrones setting and gritty art style.
    3. 12:58 Aging system like RDR2/Witcher 3 (my input: maybe succession systems like in CK3?)
    4. 13:38 Sandbox type story
    5. 13:57 For Honour combat style and executions, with RDR2 ragdolling and death animations (my input: Hellish Quart has some excellent swordplay and small injuries like cutting off a hand can end a fight - as it should)
    6. 13:57 Tonnes of gear/armour variety - but realistically medieval
    7. 15:53 Character relationships and development similar to the Nemsis system in Shadow of Mordor
    8. 18:08 Co-op play with close friends (NOT servers etc.)
    9. 19:09 Developed by Rockstar - for their skill at making open-worlds
    10. 20:16 Bringing the BALLS format to other cool IP e.g. LOTR, Dune, Star Wars, GoT
Besides fleshing out the aging system by adding a succession/political marriage system similar to CK3, and some of the realism from Hellish Quart, I think it would be cool to have a few units in your retinue who accompany you as you move around the world (like the party systems in Dragon Age etc.).
Also, if your army moves out of your castle, they should exist in the open world e.g. have them set up camp, and have to move to the site of a battle or raid the countryside etc. Moving your army into the field should increase gold upkeep for supplies, and you could have a supply system like in HOI4 that applies negative penalties to strategic blunders like overextending/being encircled. It would add some strategic depth - you'd have to choose the terrain carefully and manage supplies, appoint a quartermaster and guard your supply lines. etc.

The moment i see "Developed by Rockstar" I know this is all coming from someone who has no clue what they're talking about. This video is asking for SYSTEMIC and emergent gameplay, which Rockstar does not do. Rockstar makes open world sets and fills them with scripted actors. They would never make this game. Even their skill at open worlds is arguable when you consider how non-functional the open world is besides offering brain dead NPCs to kill and a place to walk through between missions that have been scripted to an inch of their life.
Seeing this comment tells me I don't know need to watch the video, it's just another unrealistic pipe dream from a video essayist who doesn't actually know much about games to begin with (most of them).

    • @krusty375
      @krusty375 Рік тому +6

@@Sazed0 I think you're slightly misinterpreting the video. The creator never claimed they were a game dev or knew anything about game design, so idrk where you're getting that from. The part where Rockstar is mentioned as a possible developer for this idea is only about a minute long so I suggest actually watching the video and either ignoring that part or actually being optimistic for 60 seconds and listening to the points he made for why he thinks that (some are pretty decent). I do mostly agree with you at least on the Rockstar side of things, I get why the creator thinks they'd be good for this, but I also doubt this dream idea is something Rockstar would ever do even if given the chance. It's a little out of their ballpark in terms of combat systems. To me it seems more like something WarnerBros, CDPR, or Ubisoft would attempt.
WarnerBros making a Shadow of War style game but in the world of GOT just sounds like it has the potential to be amazing. CDPR making what is basically The Witcher 3 but with a better story, more functional horses (just yoink RDR2's), and other gameplay aspects mentioned in the video such as retaining scars from battle or actually aging overtime just sounds like something they'd try making (maybe something similar will be in The Witcher 4). And love or hate the past 3 AC games, if Ubi pulled the AC element out, left the massive open world, and replaced the combat with what they already have from For Honor, they'd have the basic foundation for this dream idea (although knowing Ubi they'll find some way to destroy it with microtransactions).
But would I go as far as to say this dream idea is unrealistic? No, considering the similar games that've already been made I don't think it's completely unrealistic or unachievable. I think if made into a good enough pitch and given enough time and resources any of the three companies I mentioned could probably take a stab at it and find quite a bit of success.

Making something multiplayer requires a lot of groundwork you don't see in the final product. And everything you make in the game afterwards becomes 3-4x harder to implement with functional multiplayer than it would in singleplayer. 4x as much potential for something to break, or get out of sync, etc.

Bannerlord with a co-op story. You can start a town by doing what Medieval Dynasty does with building. You can gain influence and bring people to your town and build a prospering settlement just like Medieval Dynasty. Your prisoners in the towns could be recruited as villagers. You can still raid towns and declare wars on factions as well just like normal Bannerlord gameplay. This would be the perfect game

Let me be honest with you, a For Honor combat system for M&B sounds like a really bad idea. For Honor's combat works with its focus on melee-combat and one on one duels but trying to implement that in mass combat with hundreds of units like in M&B sounds like an absolute nightmare. In addition to that, you would have to factor in cavalry, ranged units, formations, strategy, and much more. I do not see any scenario in which a For Honor combat system could work in M&B unless you severely gimp the strategy and NPC count. There is a reason why For Honor only has a max of 8 players in a game. And For Honor is a game where locking on to your enemies is important to combat, how are you going to do that with HUNDREDS of units?

And for those who have attained an understanding of tactics on par with Alexander the great, Scatter can be used to spread out your archer line, especially when horsemen are sparsely attacking them. Or scatter can be used moments before a smaller infantry line clashes with your own to spread out your infantry and envelop the enemy. It is not recommended that you use scatter. Stick with shield walls instead it’s very effective

I want NPCs to have an actual opinion on my character, and to remember our last encounter. In Bannerlord, -100 relations just means they'll ban you from their castles and be slightly moody while talking to you. For me, -100 relations should be a sign that you did something that would make an NPC absolutely despise you (like slaughtering their family). I want that NPC to actively seek revenge, and to have an emotional breakdown when they next encounter my character. I want them to challenge me to a duel to the death. I just want better and more immersive interactions with the NPCs to make them seem more human, whether they're a farmer, a soldier or a king.

The primary thing I'm looking for from skyrim is the richness of quests with good story telling. Now admitedly, that would take the longest amount of time, once mechanics, graphics and environment were made. I don't think it would take three hundred years, but it would certainly take a lot, assuming I were working on it completely solo, which I don't think I would do.

My additions on top of yours would be in depth, slow, brick by brick base building. Imagine how incredible would it be to go from a hill fort, scrounged together just in the nick of time, to an imperial city, a bulwark against those who dare challenge you. Going from wood forts full of strategical oversights, blind spots, and mistakes, that you learn from as you grow, to fortresses forged from bloody, brutal experience. Like how every solider you have, was hired face to face, every wall protecting you, was put there with the help of your hands, seeing your defences hold back the hordes, filling you with the same pride as you winning a battle without a single casualty, and every wall that crumbles holds that same sting of loss, your blood, sweat, and tears not enough to protect you.
Hundreds of story hooks, like a messenger riding in on horseback, with urgent news, your shipment cant get through a bandits toll, you need this iron, so you set off to handle these matters personally, and make these highwaymen suffer for their mistake of halting your progress, for putting your people at risk, and for just being witless dicks. Plague on your people, blight in the fields, and enemies marching towards the gates, what will you do in the face of these challenges.
A great feast, but there is little time for merriment, you have one night to make allys, forge alliances, gain favour, or, to attempt a coup. Which lords and ladys will you focus on, what will you say to entice them, to gain their support, or what will you say that offends them deeply. Will they challenge you to a duel? Declare war? Secretly plot your downfall? Or will you manage to save face, quelling their wrath... for the time being.
As well as hard dilemmas cropping up on occasion, you are on the march to counter a besieging army, when an urgent request for aid comes to you. Will you change course, and hope the castle can hold out just a few days longer, unsure if you will arrive to the fortification captured and defended by your enemy?
Do you ignore the pleas for aid, and lose reputation with the other lords as a coward who leaves the innocent for dead in the name of their conquest?
Do you split your war band, hoping to deal with both at the same time, risking defeat on two fronts?
Decisions and opportunities to elevate you from a lord, to a legend.
Basically just, the ability to create more in depth play-throughs, each one you come across new landscapes to analyze for the best placement for a town, the most advantageous spot for a defensive fortress, or the most profitable location for a tavern. The opportunity to prove yourself as a true leader, not through combat, but through leading the common folk through trying times without losing their favour, the rewards being extra renown, increased production, or special rewards, like a new title, a holiday in your honour, or a citywide favour that can be used to, rally every able body person to fight with you, or to raise taxes temporarily, or forgiveness for failing to provide when famine strikes, or fire burns their homes.
(Would also be pretty neat if you could like, install yourself as the owner of the tavern, or any building, and just run a business for a while, get some related story hooks, etc.)

Warband with its Overhaul mods was even MORE fun
You should play the "A Clash of Kings" overhaul or Perisno

awesome video Jack, Bannerlord is a bittersweet game, it’s amazing but leaves a lot to be desired.

Your ideas sound like THE dream game for me m. It's what I've always wished video games could become. Bannerlord does a fantastic job of mixing Total War, Chivalry and Crusader Kings all into one. Its main problem is that it can get a bit shallow. The mods can help, though.

I don't think I'll ever understand or relate to the gamer base that can't play absolute masterpieces because of the graphics. Let alone ones with superior art style.

I liked what you said at the end about Rockstar really having the potential to capitalize on that medieval multiplayer open world game, its so true.
I've slightly been checking on their 'Project Medieval' that was leaked years ago and is apparently scheduled to come out after the next GTA.
It basically is just a red dead/gta size openworld game set in medieval times
So hopefully i can play that game you dreamt of when I'm in my 30's 🤣
