- Sky News host Chris Kenny discusses the controversy surrounding the employment of Direction 99 by Immigration Minister Andrew Giles and its subsequent review by the Labor government.
“When it comes to Andrew Giles hanging on to his job … this was a directive from the Prime Minister,” said Sky News host Chris Kenny.
“Surely that’s why he’s being protected, because if he falls on his sword over the way he’s brought in Direction 99 … there’s going to be a paper trail and at least a political debate trail that points straight back to the prime minister.”

When Direction 99 was issued, there should have been an accompanying Explanatory Memorandum which included examples of where the 'priority' of the Australian association would not be enough to reinstate visas - eg serious offence or repetitive lessor serious (not necessary the same) offences. But of course, Labor can't run a chook raffle in a pub.
