The Tories don't deserve a comeback. But they didn't betray anyone. They behaved exatly as advertised. If you voted for Boris Johnson after he spent 20 years telling you exactly who he is and then and pulled a surprise pikachu face when you found out he was throwing parties in no. 10 while people were dying alone in hospitals on respirators you need to never vote again because you are not a functioning adult and your brain is stupid.

Problem with the conservatives is the parliamentary MPs are light years away from their voters. That’s why they failed.

The Tories lost because they ceased to be Conservative, Starmer did not win, in fact his share of the votes, from previous elections, went down, the final result is hardly a mandate from the electorate. Reform, only achieved 5 MP’s, with a larger majority of the votes than the LibDems. JRM was very truthful and he was actually spot on in assessment of what is to come. Net zero, is an absolute disaster policy which will definitely bite them.

And the (ostensibly) alternative was another centre-left party without as recent a record of incompetence - we're already seeing Labour position itself more leftwards than it pretended to be, but that was to be expected.
The Tories lost centre-right votes to Reform because Reform being right wing (not far right) offered something closer to centre-right than the centre-left Tory party did.
The election was engineered by the media and the money. For example the ridiculous amount of coverage Nigel 'boring' Farage had compared to the zero coverage of the independent candidates like George Galloway, who was an actual elected MP.
The Labour government now is no change to the status quo. The people were conned again with sweet lies. As they say if voting really worked they wouldn't allow us to do it. The true enemy of this country are the likes of Mogg and his cronies. Desperate people in boats aren't the enemy their being used as a weapon to fool the people and take the spot light off the true enemy wealth and Zionism.

Which is why Sunak was congratulating Starmer like a brother after the latter’s win, policy wise there is little difference. Correct. Going by the numbers it's been nothing but a financial burden. One reason for that was the complete failure to process immigration and asylum claims by the Tory government. We’ve had the bizarre situation of these people piling up in hotels, costing us a fortune when they could have been, and indeed they want to be, active in the economy, earning money, settling down, paying taxes.

Most of the claims are unverifiable and fraudulent, the asylum system is now a well known scam where illegal immigrants just make up any story and get in anyway. The problem with the asylum system is that it enables this, rather than immediately deporting those whose claims can’t be verified which a common sense system would do.
Finally most people claiming asylum are from Asia/Africa and are completely unskilled. If let in they will just go on welfare, deal drugs, or (best case scenario) take low-income jobs and drag down the wages for British workers in those fields even more.
To say nothing of the fact that this a country, not an “economic-zone”, and the native population don’t want even more of their country to become foreign to them.

@@gibbo822 Jumped ship? He spent 25 years of his life campaigning for us to get out of the EU. His mistake was trusting that the Tories and MPs in Parliament, all of whom had pledged to uphold the referendum vote, would actually keep their word when we voted to leave.
When it became clear that wasn't going to happen, he started up the Brexit Party and just three months later, in May 2019, led the biggest single party in the EU Parliament. Then in December 2019 Johnson and the Tories double crossed him again.
Now he's come back to make sure the establishment don't ruin us completely.

The biggest problem with politics today is the apathy of the voters. For years the turn out has been very low. The exception was on the BREXIT referendum which was highjacked by the politicians and never implemented to the fullest extent. Nigel Farage was the main player in the referendum that instigated the furore of the people to vote against the politicians and hopefully his entrance into the Political Spectrum will return the British voters back to the polling booths at the next election

Sir Jacob was right in everything he said. I am glad he touched upon energy and devoted a few moments to the subject. Labour will lose once it's found to be incompetent with energy security. There is a misconception in the audience that large numbers of people switched from Conservative to Labour. In fact both LOST voters: the Tories over 7 million. Labour just lost a lot less. But the four biggest parties in 2019 lost over 8.5 million between them, and that with nearly 700,000 extra people eligable to vote. This was not the swing to Labour that the media have been portraying.
Was it people just not showing up to vote?

A growing number of ex Tory voters have decided to throw their support behind Reform. The Johnson administration was a disaster, which achieved virtually nothing. It was three years of inertia and witnessed huge dissatisfaction amongst the public. Sunak talked the talk, but lost his way due to a lack of courage to do anything substantial as it might upset the left wing of his party. The Labour Party landslide was the result of gross economic incompetence by successive Tory governments and mismanagement of law and order as well as its utter failure to control legal and illegal immigration. Reform is now the standard bearer of Conservative values and principles. I can only see Reform as growing into a mass political conservative movement, leaving the current Tory party as irrelevant.

They all act improperly look at the number of Labour MPs in the dock that does not get reported by media esp if they are Asian ,media are only interested in attacking what they call far right which are just Conservatives
The Tories had an 80-majority and did absolutely nothing with it. This implies they are happy with the dysfunction, despite their ideological and philosophical foundations having the solutions to the problems we face. The modern Tory party is therefore a captured institution, more interested in the views of Davos than the British people. Labour will be no different. The dysfunction is deliberate and will not be solved by these two parties.
At least one person here understands the futility of this discourse. We didn't leave the EU, we pledged more allegiance to it and with fewer safeguards.
All our heads of state including our own 'king' are part of a deeply dark economic ideology.
To consider we still live in a democracy is complete blindness and ignorance on part of all voters, left or right.

The problem with British Politics and the mindset in general is that there is still a deep rooted sense of empire and entitlement.
When the Tories talked about doing deals around the world they mistakenly believed that these deals would work in one way, that is in the benefit of Britain. This was the case during the days of empire when raw materials were taken from the countries, brought to Britain and then manufactured items sold back to the colonies. This won't happen today.
The only thing Britain has today is financial services and this will diminish in coming years.
When the UK realises it true place in the world it will be a good day for the British. Then and only then will there be a chance of the UK flourishing.
The Tories never "led on Brexit"... some of them temporarily feigned interest in it after the referendum to con Farage into standing aside. If anything the parliamentary Tory party dislikes Brexit more than the left.

@@jonchess8844 Leaving the EU and its institutions. The media want you to believe you didn't know this by calling it names. But the question was simple and there was around 36 weeks of campaigning telling you what it was, thousands of hours of debates, and a couple of live national tv question and answer times per week leading up to it.
This is not even getting into the millions or more articles, "tweets" and videos on the matter during it. We did know what we were voting for.
The problem is our govt have never been in a job where they negotiate high-risk things. One of those things was that we never did the simplest points to gain leverage and that was to say No deal and go to the WTO unless you give us this (and list it all out). And if they kept saying no, like they did, you call their bluff. They would be begging us for a bilateral deal by the end of 2017.

What was called a 'soft' Brexit (a term invented to confuse the issue) was in fact continued membership but with lower status. As for results, much has happened since we left that was unpredictable - known unknowns - that have had a big impact on our economy. It is impossible to disentangle them from the effect of leaving the EU. One fact remains, however, that the decision to leave was not an economic one. In the worsening situation that Europe finds itself in, we do at least have control over what we do and are no longer at the mercy of a centralised, undemocratic empire-building bureaucracy.

You can generate on-paper growth by stuffing more people into the country, which is precisely what the Tories and Labour before them have been doing for thirty years. Pro growth reforms? What does that mean, 2 million immigrants a year? There are structural problems including supposed growth-inducing ones like mass immigration that have been catastrophic for Britain. It is well past time that there is a paradigm shift.

To be fair to the current Labour party, their declared measure of success in achieving this growth is GDP per capita, not overall GDP growth, for that very reason. As we found out from Covid, our manufacturing base was so hallowed out that we could not even make our PPE. If a tariff is needed to preserve manufacturing when you compete with low wage countries with weak environmental and labor protections, I support it. Free trade policiies has been good for the City, not for the rest of us.

I remember at least one company offered to make PPE and was turned down and maybe Dyson not sure offered to make incubators but I think was turned down , I do know that the government were paying £1 million a month on storage for all the useless PPE that arrived not fit for purpose !
Manufacturing may be hallowed, but it has been hollowed out.
The problem is that will increase the cost of imported products significantly, and since almost everything we buy is imported, that would mean the average consumer has to spend a lot more money. We have seen how badly the country has been rocked by inflation, so imagine further inflation due to tariffs?
This would also reduce demand, which means the imported goods would not sell very well. If we combine this with the higher costs due to tariffs, many foreign suppliers may decide to stop supplying the UK all together, especially since the UK is not that big of a market globally anyway. At this point, we would be looking at shortages of products similar to what people experienced in Cuba or in the Soviet Union.
With regard to tariffs protecting our domestic industry, the data suggests our manufacturing sector has collapsed so badly that the difference in cost between UK goods and foreign goods is so massive, that it would be an enormous tariff required to balance the difference. Not 10% like Trump suggested in America, we would be looking at potentially 40% or more depending on the industry. That’s how cheap it is in China, India, Bangladesh etc where there are virtually zero environmental or employment regulations.
The best option for the UK is to use our technological advantage and leverage that to support manufacturing. We are one of the few countries in the world with expertise in advanced robotics, computer chip technology etc. It would make more sense for the UK to go down the same route as Taiwan and South Korea, where they have a booming industry in electronic components (Samsung and TSMC), as opposed to heavy industry or raw materials manufacturing like China. Additionally, the UK is one of the few countries in the world with significant natural gas reserves AND nuclear power capabilities. Long term, moving towards nuclear energy would make UK energy very cheap and prevent any need for foreign energy reliance, or reliance on international energy prices (such as when the Ukraine War caused global oil and gas prices to rise, which then impacted UK gas prices). We know that electronics and manufacturing (especially AI and server farms) need massive amounts of energy. If the UK could get into the position of being a net energy exporter through nuclear energy and gas drilling/fracking, that would make domestic manufacturing competitive and massively reduce energy bills.
The only problem with this is convincing climate activists and liberals that nuclear energy is indeed eco-friendly, and that drilling/fracking for gas is in our interest, despite it being a fossil fuel. Unfortunately the climate policies are holding the UK back when China, India etc don’t hold themselves to the same standards. The only sustainable energy source we have to compete is nuclear, but somehow climate activists hate nuclear energy.

I’m with Fraser on the significance of the vote share; the harder you look at it and disentangle it the clearer it seems that in fact the political direction in Britain is to the right, not the left. It is the same direction across Europe. Marine le Pen and her Rassemblement National party won a higher percentage vote in the French elections than Starmer’s Labour . Our election was AGAINST a party that was not Conservative enough or Competent enough to be trusted…by conservatives…to continue in charge. Starmer’s Labour was entrusted with the vote of 33% of those who voted…an historic low BUT their vote out of the entire electorate was about 18%. In countries used to lots of parties and coalitions this would be considered a good vote; in a country like ours with a first past the post system it is appalling. “Mandate”? Labour has a technical mandate only, NOT…no where near…. a Popular Mandate. Does anyone think they will be MORE popular in 2029?

The UK Tories are infested with US funded hyper-neoliberals who in the best Randian style think the best government is the one who governs the least. They don't see any tax or government spending they don't want to cut, they don't see any border they don't want to open, and they don't see any tradition or value they don't want to abandon. There is nothing conservative about any of this - its extremely radical, almost revolutionary in its fanaticism. And its dumb. The neoliberals have had total ideological dominance over the UK since Thatcher. Tory or Labour, neoliberalism has reigned for decades no matter how unpopular it's policies have been.
And its resulted in a hollowed out Britain. The one time workshop of the world now makes little or nothing other than banking transactions. Huge swathes of the country have been abandoned to unemployment and despair. And the British themselves - the English, the Scots, the Welsh and the Northern Irish - will become a minority within their own homeland within my lifetime for the first time in recorded history. By any measure of the ordinary British person, neoliberalism has been a total failure. Of course, for its extremely wealthy backers, the neoliberal capture of the UK Tories has been extremely successful.
But still, even still, while wondering how to win back the ordinary British voter the Tories are still listening to radical neoliberals who demand an absolute adherence to free trade dogma. Neoliberalism and conservatism are ideologically opposed - until the Tories expel the neoliberal cancer that has gripped them, they'll never give British voters a good option. And if they refuse to (as I expect they will) then they should be wiped out anyway.
