My daughter's black box was wildly inaccurate, claiming she was doing 40mph in a 20mph zone - it was in fact a 40 mph zone but the black box got it wrong. And this happened quite a lot. After 4 weeks of the insurance company threatening to cancel the insurance, I cancelled the insurance and now pay the full teenager price for my daughter. It will be the same with these limiters. And of course this plays into the hands of Sadiq Khan who will use this to further torment mororists - 5mph speed limits maybe!
Can you imagine the increased levels of confrontation between drivers of limited speed vehicles and those of older non restricted vehicles. @@andystreet4022 But they have zero reason to operate above the speed limit. There is no justification for doing so, I'm sick of speeders endangering everyone with their selfish behaviour. The same people who moan about getting caught speeding (which is illegal, let's be blunt about that) don't feel the same about other criminals. There is absolutely no danger in this technology, just stick to the speed limits, enjoy fine-free motoring and be happy. In over 20 years driving I've never once had to "accelerate out of danger" nor do I know anyone who has. Unfortunately for too many people speed limits are seen as an irritation or annoyance rather than a reasonable approach to a high stress environment which cannot safely operate as a free for all. The Germans tried that, found it doesn't work and have broadly restricted speeds on the Autobahn as there were too many accidents and fatalities. Most drivers overestimate their own ability, skull and talent, and the consequences are often catastrophic. We need to ask ourselves do we want safe roads, or the ability to drive as we wish, as we cannot have it both ways. Stop panicking. Any technology can be hacked and re-coded. The reason we have so many amazing Japanese cars from the 90's is because The Japanese government wanted to control the power and speed of cars so the car manufacturers all got together and agreed to produce all their cars with the limited power that made the government happy but they physically built the engines to withstand much higher power so the customers could simply modify the cars themselves and produce much higher power once the car was purchased. The end result was cars that can be simply modified to produce 1000bhp in the 90's. Much more power than they would have got if the government didn't interfere. We can already reprogram the entire ECU of a car at home on your driveway now. You can currently buy chips that stop a car from registering millage now. It won't be long before someone produces a chip and program that tricks the GPS into thinking the car is doing the legal speed limit while actually driving much faster. What we all need to be focused on is banding together and uniting in ignoring the rules. They can't punish everyone. Just look at the ulez in Birmingham! So many people have ignored it and refused to pay that they have basically abandoned the debt. Same with the 20mph speeds in Wales. If we all unite in breaking the new laws then they become unenforceable. If insurance companies try and punish everyone by refusing us insurance then they will just go out of business. So they will have to change their plans if they want to survive. We all need to learn to unite together and refuse to comply together. The EV car market is already dying so manufacturers are abandoning them. This law will destroy new car sales so the multi billion dollar car companies will also fight back because they want to stay in business. Everything is about money and the government will never win against private corporations.
But the had smaller diffs in the cars so they not go to fast but had lot of acceleration in Japan . Tech software has got a lot more advanced there only Chinese and India software engineers to do this as in the world

they will be able to just close down your EV soon as well as know when your charging via your smartmeter and switch your tariff to a more expensive one on the fly, its what happens when you jump in the deep end without critically thinking why are they really doing this....hmmm.
A man walks into a Lamborghini showroom and asks for a car that can go at 300 Kmh top speed. The salesman shows him several vehicles. He picks one and is about to pay, when the salesman says there is just one thing he should know. By law, each car has been fitted with a speed limiter which means it will only go at a maximum of 120 Kmh. The man then changes his mind and walks out of the showroom. As a consequence, the salesman earns no commission, the VAT on the car is not paid to the Treasury and car showrooms generally are left holding too much stock. Is this good for the economy?
The system works by GPS so it knows the speed limit of the road you are on, it doesn't take a genius to know that means it will make your car derestricted on derestricted roads.
If a car has that technology fitted image what else they are putting in the car that you don't know about! I think it's pointless to engineer an engine that is capable of propelling a vehicle at say 160 mph and then holding it back to say 80mph......is for fuel saving or health and safety. These are effectively black boxes for information to be passed onto your insurance company or law enforcement.
My last 3 vehicles have had auto speed limiter that reads road signs etc and is very useful especially when driving in 20-30-40 changing speed limits, great on smart motorways too when the speeds are changing due to roadworks and congestion. It also works with the cruise control so very handy on our heavily restricted roads here in the UK. It doesn’t affect the acceleration at all and can be overridden by pushing the throttle pedal down to the floor. I can switch it off or change it to manual setting but it’s usually on all the time as my last two speeding fines were 33mph in a 30 and 45 in a 40 both resulted in a speed awareness course!
I guarantee that Labour will introduce this once they work out how to fine people for other things to make up for the massive shortfall in speeding fines!
I guess they didn’t look at the research performed by some college students where they took lead on a 4 lane highway and set their cruise control to 55mph so everyone was forced to go 55mph behind them. The rate of accidents increased dramatically.
