They bought it, it was theirs, they were free to do with it whatever they wanted. If you want to save an old car like this, buy it for yourself and take care of it. But don't tell others what they are supposed to do with theirs. It's all just things anyway, meant to be used. They used it for a much better purpose than most other cars like this. They made an entertaining video out of it, it's been immortalised this way. Get over yourselves lol.

The beetle that was dropped just had a quick respray. You can tell from the paint that was left on top of the engine. This beetle was probably at the end of its life.

The people that drive riced out Honda's already destroy them from not properly tuning them and they try to drift and do burnouts in them so idk. Breaking something that is already broken does not seem to be very exciting i guess.

A Corola 1200 from 1970 is a 50 years old car and a Jewel today....same for Datsun 1200, Fiat 127, Mini 1000, Fiat 600...etc etc... I am not a beetle fan, but if a car that old and slow still has fan clubs, then you should not do that... People are getting too materialistic and forgetting what design quality really meant.

Strength and speed are not the only challanges in car design. There are other "values".You make your requirements specification then you take your design decisions accordingly. Hamburger is not super-food and kalashnikov is not the best rifle but there are certain qualities that make a certain design to turn into an icon.
A famous architect Christopher Alexander has many papers on this issue. He often mentions a "quality without a name". For this or that reason, that car is an icon and this is rude.

All kinds of classic cars get crushed daily. They could have easily picked a rarer car. The beetle might as well be the car to drop, as they made so many in the same style, up until the mid 2000s.

As an owner of 1973 Red Volkswagen Convertible Super Beetle, I am not afraid to say I cried a little.
This video makes me so sad...I mean it's funny when Doug DeMuro destroyed a Kia that was worth (-$39), but this is just depressing...

I remember when this was first aired I had it recorded and was watching it with my dad and just as the beetle was dropped it ended recording and I was so upset, but I was able to watch again from that part a day later

+Aaron Hobson The Porsche 356 wasn't very fast. If they raced one of those against the 911 in the video, it would have miserable results as well. It really does look like he botched up the take off in the bug though. Maybe the 1300 is just that much slower then the 1600 I'm used to (still not very fast, but fast enough and geared well enough to do well at the beginning of a traffic light gone green)

@Aaron Hobson, technically, the 356 had a modified Beetle engine. It would be more correct to say that the 356 was a heavily modified Beetle than reverse...

It was probably from a scrap yard and they did a dirty respray on it look at 03:02 when he shows the engine you can see red paint over the engine.

No, the one they dropped was a stripped out shell, really banged up and crudely painted, no interior, probably no engine, can clearly see it doesn't have taillights which the running one they raced earlier did have. As a classic Beetle owner, I see nothing salvageable on it, so really no loss.

Probably true. Doesn't really hut in my opinion though, even as a classic Beetle owner, as looking closely you can see the one dropped - which wasn't the same one as they raced against earlier - is just a stripped out shell, no interior, probably no engine, just a junk body.

my father owns an original VW Käfer ( the German name of the Bettle) from 1962. Its actually extremely fun to drive, and it works perfectly ( exept for the Horn, the Wipers and everything else except the Motor ) but the Motor is perfect!

With a small aerodynamic tail to lower the drag coefficient by keeping the nose down and keep it from tumbling, the bug should have been able to reach 180 mph.

ben sluder I'd just consider that a plus, you can either get a good engine and slap it in, refurbish an old one, or the right porsche engine, which will bolt right in, except you need to space the bootlid out a little... These beetles are great restoration pieces! Buddy of mine has one in good condition and it's fun to fill it up with friends on a road trip, everyone sits close together, no headrests in the way for conversation... just fun little cars to own!
