Name me a player in NBA history who played injured better than Bird? Broken back and he would still give 100 percent effort with no excuses. That being said I so miss the 80's and 90's NBA. Was the greatest!
Great all-around game by two NBA legends back when the league had those individual competitive rivalries and in this game Jordan was giving the Celtics the business in the Carmine 6s
7:59....A move like that would be on most players career highlights. For MJ, that was just another regular move on a meaningless day of the regular season.
35 year old Larry playing against prime Jordan still have him 30 points, 10 dimes and 10 rebounds with a broke back and a broken jaw. Great game for MJ as well!! ♥️
its also his bad back tin 1991 and 1992 seasons. He often couldn't practice. But yeah, he is playing against Pippen and Grant and doing well. You might also enjoy his 1991-1992 game vs Portland at the Garden - double OT playing against strong and athletic J. Kersey, C. Robinson, B. Williams. 49 points, 14 rebs, 12 assists.
God, there was some beautiful basketball being played here. The kind you absolutely don’t see anymore. Love how Kerr have Boston and Bird all their dues.
Think this was their last big time scoring game against each other. On another note, I need someone to post the game Jordan scored 30 in one quarter. Think it was against the Nuggets in the late 80s. Hard to find game.
One of the great things about Jordan, was the way he defied gravity. He would go up to take a shot, and in mid-air just wait and see how the defender (or defenders) would play it, and then he would switch-up his shot in mid-air, changing from two-hand to one-hand, back to -two-hand again, and changing up the whole body position and shot angle ..... all while in mid-air......and have the strength (after all that) to cleanly swish the new adjusted shot (which may have gone through more than one adjustment). This becomes impossible to defend......and THAT was Michael Jordan.
I thought mj could only shoot 3pointers when they shortened the line and he couldn’t pass. hmmmm 75% from three and 6 assists plus 44points against a team rank 9th in defense

3:07 BEAUTIFUL NO EFFORT ON THAT LIFT 😭😭 This game was a jump shooters paradise, always was a pleasure when these two got together during those years...too bad they just missed a matchup in the playoffs later this season. Boston wasn’t gonna be in the way of number two, though.
Bird is in my top 10 of greatest players of all time and the man was "built" like my mail man, dont wanna insult Larry legend but if he would've been remotely more athletic, he would've made the top 5
His game wasn’t predicated on athleticism and a young Bird was plenty athletic. Here he has a fused back which required him to be in traction prior to games, 2 junk Achilles’ tendons, and bone spurs in both heels. He had the same vertical jump as Karl Malone and as quick a pair of hands as any player in history. His healthy years were as good as any player in history , and from 80-88 he revived 67% of ALL MVP votes winning 3 straight and finishing 1st or 2nd every year. Even in this hobbled state he was mere percentage points in FG% from posting another 50/40/90 season. Bird is a beast
Just imagine adding LEN BIAS to this 1992 celtics line up of BIRD MCHALE PERISH LEWIS.....just imagine. Celtics need not wait til 2008 to win their next ring. Instead they loose LEWIS soon. Quite tragic really.
Had Bias not passed i think the Celtics could have won 1 maybe 2 more championships. Bias was phenomenal. I also think it would have allowed Bird to maybe play 2 more seasons. The Great What If!
It's too bad the Celtics in 91 and 92 couldn't get by Detroit and then Cleveland and face the Bulls in the ECF. We just didn't get enough Bird vs Jordan in the playoffs. Yeah we had 86 and 87 but the Bulls were no near that level yet and unfortunately the Celtics just couldn't get past the second round since 88. I'm sure Jordan wished he had a chance for a little redemption vs Bird and the Celtics in the playoffs
Towards the end of his career, Bird actually shot higher percentage in the mid range than he did inside because his athleticism was totally gone by end of his career.

He was, wished he stayed healthy for those late 80s & early 90s match ups though cause thats when the bulls built a title contender team
This was only the 4th game of the season, commentators said he looked approximately 95% back
And still dropped 30 w like 10 dimes and 10 rebounds lol
