Back then, each franchise had its franchise star(s) who was/were the driving force behind the team, who carried it in good times and bad times. The stars were loyal to their teams and fan base. Jordan and Pippen stayed loyal to the Bulls, Ewing and Starks to the Knicks, Drexler to the Blazers, David Robinson (and Duncan) to the Spurs. The talent was more evenly distributed, making the matches more interesting. Now, when you put together 3-4 mercenary stars in the same team you blow up competition. Winning by a 30+ points margin has become the norm. This NBA era sucks.
MJ took 39 shots for 40 so they defended well, compared to Drexlers 27 shots, but free throws by Clyde (6 for 12) and Porter's plays costed Portland. I always felt Porter tried to be the clutch player when he was not the best option. Pippen was 28/11/8.

Clyde was super smooth and got the vision (crazy behind passes), great big hands, athleticism but he didn't have MJ's intensity, I felt Clyde could be a better player. He got everything. He could improve his shots, get more offensive weapons. MJ worked on his game and evolved as he aged.
On point...I agree. Think his mentality was too chill and not selfish enough to trust his own talent...that's why so often Portland went to Terry porter for the final shot even though Clyde was the most talented.
Imagine if Jordan and Drexler had been the Blazers' backcourt. With Duckworth and Jerome Kersey in the lineup. They would have been unstoppable. But they went with Sam Bowie and the rest is history.
but then Jordan wouldn't have been scoring 32-37 a game, the scoring load would have been distributed, i could see Jordan avg'g 29 ppg and Drexler avg 18 ppg over A 6 YR period had they been teemates, say 1984-1990
Did anyone notice Jordan season averages at that point in the season. For a true guard it is astonishing. 31.3 points per game , on 57% field goal percentage and 87% from the line. Crazy!
Drexler is underated because he played in the same era with MJ and dominique they have almost the same skills except mj is too much talented and his determination to win is in different lvl good thing about drexler career he was traded to houston when MJ 1st retirement and he won a ring with hakeem and the houston 👌

The 1988-1993 featured zero dominant bug men (Kareem was a shell of himself both years) so I don't see what's so unique about Clyde's accomplishment. Kobe and Wade very clearly surpassed him. .
Not really, as Clyde beats The Admiral and balanced Suns with Tom Chambers in 1990, Malone in 1991 and 1992. And Suns again in 1992. Clyde did it as the best defender in his team too, which Kobe never really achieved with Horry in his first 3, Ariza and Artest in his 4th and 5th. Bulls vs Portland and Bulls vs Utah where some great east vs west matches in the from 87 to the shot with Utah and up until Jordan's 1st retirement with Portland
This is exactly why MJ was the greatest of all time. Listen, i despised him, I'm a die-hard Blazers fan - with the Pistons and Suns being far and away my next two favorite teams. So any way you slice it, I was rooting against the Bulls on a regular basis. So this isn't coming from some MJ fanboy or some shit, the fact that the Bulls one multiple tittles, let alone 2 different three-peats, (with the first being the most impressive), is effin mind-blowing. People nowadays don't realize just how stacked teams like the Blazers were due to aside for Clyde - the rest of his teammates in those late 80's to early 90's Blazers teams aren't really household names, but from 1990 to 1992, those teams were considered at the time - and still should be considered, some of if not the best team to not win a championship. They had Clyde, Porter, Kersey, Buck, Duckworth, Cliff, Ainge, Drazen, Bryant, and (in 91), they had an old but still solid Walter Davis. Duck, Porter, and Kersey, would have averaged well over 20 a game if they had been on any other team in the league, with Cliff and Ainge at the time were two of the best bench players in he league. And the major reason Drexler's numbers were quite as impressive to MJ's was largely due directly to that very fact, that just had so many guys deserving touches. Portland wasn't the only team the Bulls had to worry bout back then either, there were tons of good, or even great, teams throughout the league that had legit shots at winning a championship. Teams like the Bucks had guys like Ricky Pierce, Pressey, Sickma, and Moncrief, the Jazz (in early 90's), had both Karl and Jeff Malone, plus Stockton, then the Rockets had Hakeem, Thorpe, Kenny Smith, and Horrey. The Spurs had Robinson, Willie Anders, Cummings, and Dale Ellis. The Knicks had Ewing, Mason, Xavier McDaniel, Oakley, Starks, Doc Rivers, and Charles Smith. The Cavs had Price, Dougerty, Hot-Rod, Larry Nance, and either Harper in the late 80's - or Gerald Wilkens in the early 90's. Suns had Barkley, Cedric Cebalos, Dumas, Majerle, Kevin Johnson, and Tommy Chambers. The Sonics had Kemp, Payton, Schrempf, Hersey Hawkins, Eddie Johnson, and Derrick McKey. The Hawks had Wilkens, Kevin Willis, Doc Rivers (until he went to the Knicks in early 90's), Spud Webb, John Battle, an old Moses Malone, and then Stacy Augmon in the early 90's. And then of course the waning, yet still elite 80's teams - the Pistons, Celts, and Lakers. Those are just some of the sort of teams in the late 80's through to mid 90's that Jordan's Bulls had to compete against. Even lesser teams like the Nugg's of the late 80's had Alex English, Fatt Lever, Reggie Williams, and Michael Adams that you had to deal with. The depth of the league as a whole back then absolutely blows the current NBA depth outa the water. Thanks for the upload, great game!
Because Clyde's prime was during Jordan's prime, and what happened in the 92 finals game 1 which is cemented among greatest NBA moments ever until the end of time, Clyde actually became possibly underrated historically as a consequence. He was by pretty much all intents and purposes the 2nd best 2-guard of the 90's. He was a better overall player than Reggie Miller, he just didn't have the memorable playoff moments Miller had, even though he was the best player on 2 Portland teams that got to the finals. In fact, one could make the case (not saying for sure he is) that Clyde was the 5th greatest 2-guard of all-time behind MJ, Kobe, Wade, and West and ahead of guys like Miller, Ray Allen, Klay Thompson etc. And the irony is that he actually won an NBA title in what probably had always been his ideal role, as a #2 co-star to Hakeem Olajuwan on that 95 Rockets team.
I don't remember him being a remote threat to Jordan and looking up his stats I think my memory is correct. He was very good and all star several years, but not some all time top 50 player. Top 100 yes.
@@daviddufresne343 10X all-stars are not just "very good". He absolutely is a top 50 all-time player. Your basically making my point. If Jordan was never in the picture, he would have most likely been at least a 2X NBA champion and the best 2-guard of the 90's. Dude was GREAT. Not just very good. He just wasn't on MJ's level of greatness.
Clyde was spectacular but...Jordan was simply otherworldly. It wasn't a completely unfair comparison, but Michael stood head and shoulders above the Glide skill-wise - not to mention Mike's unmatched intensity.
In the 1990 Finals Drexler clearly outplayed Joe Dumars and shot well from the perimeter. He was bigger and stronger than Joe and could get by him, elevate, and finger roll.I liked the fundamentals of Joe Dumars and didn't dislike him.Dumars quietly went about his business and wasn't a hatchet man like Laimbeer or Mahorn or objectionable like Isiah.Portland fans gave Dumars 18 bouquets of roses after his father passed.I think Drexler hit over 26 ppg in those finals. He made spectacular shots in the game 3 and 4 Portland losses and had an awesome dunk over Isiah in Game 2 as well as sealing the OT win.He didn't shoot well versus Jordan's Bulls in the 1992 Finals. Yet in this game the amazing move and shot on Pippen is a thing of beauty.Drexler shot well from the perimeter in this game , but atrociously from the free throw line. One account said Jordan left the arena on a stretcher after this game.Drexler posterized Jordan many times in his career(see Drexler 1992 All Star Game Highlights 4:17) and imo he is a better man than MJ.
In overtime, Drexler missed both free throws and nearly broke the backboard with his brick. Moments later, Drexler throws a possession away with an inaccurate behind-the-back pass. You'd NEVER, EVER see Jordan do either of that.
Clyde had it all when it came to skill, speed and strength. Mike was willing to get a bit more nasty in order to beat clyde. If jordan ever said beating clyde was easy, he’d be straight up lying. But we do know mikes ego doesn’t allow him to rank anyone else above himself. Not even larry legend. He simply is unable to admit such things. But he was a hell of a player. But if all a scout seen was this video to make up his mind on who to sign a contract. It’s really hard to say one is better than the other. They are very similar in so many ways. But again as many times before. I say mike values personal stats over the entire team’s abilities. You can tell clyde is very unselfish, and plays alongside his teammates. Which is always a better choice in team sports. Clyde played for portland. The bull played to help mike score more. It was obvious to anyone paying close attention.
Damn..We sleeping on Clyde. Jordan and Clyde looked even and this is their peak year... Time to re think. It damn near looks like if Jordan and Clyde played one on one, winner has to win by 2, that game probably goes about 6 hours.
Terry Porter? Pass the ball to a wide-open Ainge, would you. SMH... Man, I know MJ was great, but Clyde Drexler was so fun to watch, moving a like a Panther out there on the court with crazy athletic ability. Anyone that says Scottie Pippen was in Clyde's league has rocks in their head. He would have been Clyde's batman, just like he was MJ's. Would have been interesting if Pippen was playing with Clyde and Kersey was with MJ. Things may have played out differently.
Those games were close. Most of Chicago wins in the finals were close and competitive games. Jordan and the Bulls just never let it reach 7 games in the finals.
Clyde fouled out and and Jordan didn't. I saw at least 2 no calls on Jordan. Was the NBA afraid to call 6 fouls on Jordan? I've never known him to foul out.
MJ is GOAT, but makes you wonder...If Drexler had Pippen and Grant as teammates instead of Kersey and Williams, who would have won...and...Someone please set a screen for Clyde dang it!

17 minutes?!?? Wow this is going to be epic!!!!
Love the intensity of the game.
Who won the championship and when mj do have a off night he played D,rebound the ball ,7or 8 dimes, 3 steals and won the chip and when they tried to compare him to Mike hit 7 three's broke a record 35 points in the first half and of he played the whole game he could've scored 80 with 15 dime, over 10 rebounds and 5 steal and he didn't get one chip period on mj just ask magic and bird who call him God with shoes on did Mike ended that debate fast as he'll and Jason Terry would've never cook mj and win a championship on mj period sir

Think his mentality was too chill and not selfish enough to trust his own talent...that's why so often Portland went to Terry porter for the final shot even though Clyde was the most talented.
clyde is like derozan before derozan.
Great game as though it was today. I miss those days of the NBA
Did anyone notice Jordan season averages at that point in the season. For a true guard it is astonishing. 31.3 points per game , on 57% field goal percentage and 87% from the line. Crazy!
I watched this game live & this was a great era of basketball to grow up in
What a tough game
So blessed to watch this game on tv live vauv
Drexler is underated because he played in the same era with MJ and dominique they have almost the same skills except mj is too much talented and his determination to win is in different lvl good thing about drexler career he was traded to houston when MJ 1st retirement and he won a ring with hakeem and the houston 👌
Early season game in 1991 with more intensity than a Finals game Today....Sad. I miss this NBA. So many greats. I always liked Drexler alot as a player. Moved like a panther. smooth and dangerous. let his game do his talking.
Man Clyde was good and Blazers matched well against the Bulls.
1:40 when I used to watch MJ
I was always nervous he would have a serious injury and grateful he didn’t. He flew so high, twisting his body with insane moves and double cluthes. Even the way he lands here, on one leg, crazy
MJ tweaks is back in the 1st quarter and its a triple over time game!! but everyone knew these 2 teams would meet in the finals
Blazer fan first, but also an MJ fan. It’s crazy that you can tell MJ’s back is bothering him and he still goes the distance, gets 40 (and bunch of other stuff) AND the W! He broke our Blazer hearts!
I don't see how the Portland trail blazers in that era in the 90s didn't win in championship they had a strong squad Clyde the glide drexler Terry Porter Jerome Kersey Kevin duckworth I think Clifford Robinson if I'm not mistaken 🤷🏿🤦🏾
Simple.....other than 1991 vs LA they lost to better teams.
to be COMPLETELY honest i did do and will really really HATE david robinson and i did do and will SOMEWHAT like clyde drexler
please tell me why the blazers went far in the 90 91 and 92 playoffs and why the spurs only went far in the 95 playoffs since clyde drexler wasn't as elite as david robinson
They just didn’t pull it out when I counted.
@@FuShengAlex even if they should've beat the 1991 lakers so the blazers WEREN'T the better team and superstar describes clyde drexler while legend describes magic johnson and even more so a guy who retired after june of 1989 that i did do and/or PROBABLY will really LOVE being kareem abdul-jabbar
This was their 1st win in Portland in 2years prior. That was a tough Trailblazer squad
1:27 Bron would need three weeks of load management for something like that.
Best painted floor in NBA history
I always said Kobe and Wade is only 3rd and 4th SG of all time, The glide is my second, not for the fame but the ability to carry his team to the Finals without the help of any big men.
Clyde paired with The Dream in 1995 to get the most hardcore championship from number 6th seeds.@@spitshinetommy3721
Uh?????
No Michael Jordan's the best shooting guard Kobe was the second best and Manu Ginobili was the third best without question Manu Ginobili 8 Dwyane Wade for lunch head-to-head always it's not just how much you score and by the way Manu scored as much as he needed to no question he destroyed Wade he's third best not Wade
The real NBA
Clyde playing just as good as Jordan in this game.. a lot like the old Wilkins vs Jordan games where they just went at each other like crazy.
MJ with the pulled back damn near second play...dang...IRON...
Love digging down the rabbit hole!! The comments is where it's at!! Great video!! Thank you for keeping young bucks in check ✅✅who the real in flesh and blood who was and still is and will always be the goat!!!!
We are really lucky to see a Michael Jordan, Kobe Bean Bryant EVER!!!!!
So appreciate what they have done for the game!! They let you see the impossible really come true!!

Near perfection!!
So sad we don’t see this kind of basketball now anymore! #thaterarocks #pure
Back when you were allowed to play defense.
Except on Jordon
Excellent commentary. I agree 100%. 👍🏽💯
@7:41 he does that exact same play against Karl Malone and tha Utah jazz to win that 6th ring🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
Drexler blew this game with those missed free throws
@@Riles3152 ....80's-90's
People nowadays always yelling about MJ didn't have no rivalries or competition. Ya'll better ask somebody about Drexler!
Clyde was spectacular but...Jordan was simply otherworldly. It wasn't a completely unfair comparison, but Michael stood head and shoulders above the Glide skill-wise - not to mention Mike's unmatched intensity.
Can you please upload any games that they have played each other in the 80's?
I kept watching these expecting MJ to not get every call. Hasn't happened yet.
Jordan dropped thirty in Double OT, on the road, with a lower back injury. #GOAT
Jordan had the “don’t touch mike” ; drexeler did not…….that’s why they were not the same!
Those two went at each other. I knew that it became a team game and they knew it.
Before JR Smith, there was Scottie Pippen at 11:12
Haha, truth. Almost. Good it wasn't the end of the final game.
In overtime, Drexler missed both free throws and nearly broke the backboard with his brick. Moments later, Drexler throws a possession away with an inaccurate behind-the-back pass. You'd NEVER, EVER see Jordan do either of that.
This video would've been flagged for showing an MJ turnover
Could you remove the blurry screen on each side?
michael would be mad that you called clyde his rival
False. Jordan was a team player but knew when to take over. The Bulls players trust Jordan with the ball more than they do themselves.
Miss this era
Bulls (2 HOFers) vs. Blazers (1 HOFer)
= Bulls win
Simple math
Glide was nice.
Lebron had extremely good teachers.🤘
Clyde is 3rd best SG all time. This video gives an example
Y después vinieron los Sacramento kings de chocolate blanco Williams
Aquellos kings eran como Clyde Drexler 👍💪❤️
90s: Jordan vs Clyde
00s: Tracy vs Kobe
10s: Bron vs KD
Jordan rocking the 6 Carmine's here. Figured he'd be wearing 7's in the 91-92 season.
Drexler threw the game away with that flashy behind the back pass.
He also missed some free throws at a critical time.
Terry Porter was also pretty selfish and was trying too much.
Damn..We sleeping on Clyde. Jordan and Clyde looked even and this is their peak year... Time to re think. It damn near looks like if Jordan and Clyde played one on one, winner has to win by 2, that game probably goes about 6 hours.
Paxon vs Kerr?
Terry Porter? Pass the ball to a wide-open Ainge, would you. SMH... Man, I know MJ was great, but Clyde Drexler was so fun to watch, moving a like a Panther out there on the court with crazy athletic ability. Anyone that says Scottie Pippen was in Clyde's league has rocks in their head. He would have been Clyde's batman, just like he was MJ's. Would have been interesting if Pippen was playing with Clyde and Kersey was with MJ. Things may have played out differently.
I wonder what would of happened if the bulls made it back to the finals when Drexler was running with the Dream and the Rockets?
Didn't know that Portland were able to provide such a heat on Chicago... 4-2 look to easy in retrospective.
Those games were close. Most of Chicago wins in the finals were close and competitive games. Jordan and the Bulls just never let it reach 7 games in the finals.
Rukawa vs Sendoh
Now basketball games r too soft
Portland was strong.. They deserved a title.
The bulls defense was relentless LoL cause they help each other now days know defense at all it's a three point shoot out
Should've traded pippen for clyde. Enough said.
If portland had drafted Jordan those guys probably win 7-10 chips.
LeBron couldn't start for either of these teams!!!
Clyde fouled out and and Jordan didn't. I saw at least 2 no calls on Jordan. Was the NBA afraid to call 6 fouls on Jordan? I've never known him to foul out.
the refs were obviously fans of mj dumbass
Thee NBA Kissed Michael Jordan's Back-Side regularly..
Yeah that happens
Michael jordan fouled out at least 4 times in his career, there was on game where both Jordan and Pippen fouled out and the bulls still won.
jordan got called for a clean block.
prove his real worth ..one of the best game
The commentators are being biased in favor of Jordan. The refs are protecting Jordan. Like they are cheering for Chicago
Damn Image if Portland would have drafted him and Mike on the same team 😱 scary
Clyde was a bad man! ... and also a mystery why he looks younger now than when he was 28-29...
Does no one else in the comments notice Jordan limping until the 4th because of his back?
MJ is GOAT, but makes you wonder...If Drexler had Pippen and Grant as teammates instead of Kersey and Williams, who would have won...and...Someone please set a screen for Clyde dang it!
Cliff robinson looks like KD.
What if Portland had Pippen? (and Chicago just another good forward instead)
Ever think about that?
