What gets me is how often he'll shoot *right* away, like the same split second he gets the ball, takes a shot in place after framing himself / getting the right angle to face the basket, firing the thing and it's perfect. And sometimes it's juuuuust off enough to look like a hard/awkward shot. I know a highlight video isn't always going to show misses, so sometimes it doesn't work out, but the sheer volume of shots that would look like they'd suck to take that he bangs off perfectly means he knew exactly what he wanted to do.

How important was MJ at this time? When he retired (for the first time) a few months after this, I was in 6th grade. The teacher put class on hold, and we watched his press conference. During school. More than a couple of us had tears in our eyes.

I think Michael is the goat but people who come a little close to his greatness are Wilt Chamberlain, Magic, Le bron, Bill Russell and Larry Bird. People say nowadays that Lebron is the goat but Michael totally dominated the league as a two way player. Lebron, I respect him too but he is behind Jordan. What separates MJ from everyone else is how he fused his tremendous physical gifts with the efficiency he was taught at North Carolina by Coach Dean Smith. No wasted motion. No excess dribbling. The thing about the truly great players is, sometimes they beat you with the jab. If MJ had the fadeaway going, you got that all night. No need to play around with anything else. He was so great because he distilled the game down to simple terms...take high quality shots, play at 100%, and limit mistakes. No one has done it better.

But because they expected contact that's what they pattern their game around so they had to be crafty. Now you can just be a good iso player and hope to be on a good team. And a good team nowadays is one where everyone can shoot 3s and move the ball selflessly. Nothing more. No craft. No skill. Just be selfless and move the ball and hit 3s. I defy anyone in this comment section to go pick up double-A baseball at the age of 30 & hit even close to .200...), things likely wouldn't have been the same. He needed the time away from the court to find himself again. Mike never lost a final. If he hadn't stepped away, he might've lost a final. But he never did. That's one of the best notches on his belt, which says "Greatest Of All Time". He needed that break.

The ONLY way to stop MJ from getting to the rim was with a dominant defensive center and physical team defense, which the Warriors don't have. That same Warriors team was down 3-1 to the Durant-Westbrook Thunder in the Western Conference Finals. The 2017-2018 Warriors with Kevin Durant were MUCH better than the 2016 Warriors who choked. 73 wins means nothing if you choke and lose at the end. Jordan would never get down 3-1 to those losers in the first place...the '96 Bulls would either SWEEP THEM or beat them in 5. I watched every nationally televised Bulls game from 1989 to 1998 and beyond, and watched Jordan play in his prime 6 times in person. I already know I'm 100% right. There's literally nothing Lebron does that Jordan couldn't do just as well or better. Lebron plays in the worst defensive era since the 1940s so all of his stats are INFLATED, while Jordan played in the toughest defensive era ever so his stats all mean more. The NBA changed the defensive rules in 2001 and 2004 to make it easier to score to improve ratings after Jordan retired. All of the offensive stats now are inflated, and even Luka Doncic said it's easier to score in the NBA than in Europe. Nobody said that in the '90s. You never watched Jordan play and know nothing about his career, while I'm an expert on the last 3 decades of NBA history.

Majerle was considered an elite defender at the time. Jordan just ate him alive.

@@andrewliu111 Majerle was the second best defensive SG in the league behind Jordan during this period. He was an elite defender. Jordan was just that good.

I always loved hearing MJs post game interviews too. Intelligent and professional. Through and through. Todays players always have to be snarky, classless and cuss out reporters. MJ was always just too good and clever. Confident

I just wanna say this series is proof as to how good Chuck really was. If you look at this Suns roster, they have NO ONE who could keep MJ from averaging 40 like he did. He avg 30 on the best defenders and this team doesn’t have any of those guys, plus no rim protection. It doesn’t even shock me that he put up those numbers. But for Barkley to lead his team and force this series to 6 with those kind of odds against him is crazy. Took an L but he was imo the best player MJ faced in the finals and one of the underrated 🐐s of the 90s.

Yeah I agree, Barkley was the MVP for a reason and you right about that sun's team, they were good, but honestly didn't have the defenders to stop Mike at all..it really is a true testament of how good Barkley was to lead that team..such a shame he ran into Mike in those finals..
