yes, they are comparable. lorenz is worse. libsoftiktok is not innocent. "but libs of tiktok is only posting what people themselves already post!" she has also posted places of employment of some of these people. "but they already posted them themselves!" that's not an argument because libs of tiktok herself posted all of her shit herself to the internet, her name, her phone number, her address, and it took surface-level kiwifarms digging to find it. back in the day, DOXING meant that you had information posted about yourself that you explicitly DID NOT POST ONLINE, not that you posted it in location A and somebody found it and reposted it in location B. by this standard, because both libsoftiktok, as well as the objects of libsoftiktok's focus, posted their own information online, then it's not doxing. but people don't adhere to that standard anymore, now it's just "digging something up" and by that standard they both did it. lorenz is far worse, but libsoftiktok still did it. the copium in the comments boils down to "the other side is worse so my side shouldn't count" and no, that ain't how it works.

I also watched a documentary on scammers who call specifically elderly people, claim they are their grand kids and they are in financial trouble and immediately need a few thousand bucks. The elderly person doesnt remember the name and voice of his/her grandkids exactly, so he just believes them, goes to the bank, takes out some money and then gives the money to "a friend of their grandkid".
Anyone heard of Jim Browning? He hunts internet scammers who hijack people's computers to steal their money, their prefered victims are elderly people. And of course the scammer likes to put their victim under time pressure.

I'm inclined to agree, but... A significant contingent of those prog teachers have genuinely good intentions, nothing creepy--but they got carried away by the current. They stopped critically questioning what came their way.
There's a lot of pressure to conform in those spaces/professions, and it's easy to gaslight yourself into wondering if you're the crazy one for questioning matters (while multiple people in the room are silently thinking the same thing). Tell the psyche "there's nothing to worry about here" enough times and it'll stop looking: we unconsciously program ourselves into acquiescence, if feeling at all insecure.
So that would rapidly devolve into a witch hunt that catches a lot of truly decent people who just need some cult "deprogramming." The question is how to reach out to those people--how to snap them out of their blindness??

And yeah, it is authoritarian to impose punitive measures on bad behaviour, but it needs to be done. But that also needs to be balanced it by nurturing and education, to redeem and rehabilitate these people.

I kind of get what you are trying to say in the comments here SFO but I have to disagree. There is a distinct difference between reposting already public videos of public government employees and posting videos of intercepted messages or videos taken of people without their knowledge in private.
Trying to remain impartial is a good thing. But we can’t compare apples to oranges. Think of it this way, in a court of law social media posts are admissible as evidence. These videos do not fall under privacy laws. So why should treat it any differently?

I don't understand these teachers. Why do your students (not your kids) know anything about you. In the 90s I asked a pe teacher how his weekend was. The reply was "mind your own business". I didn't know anything about these people. I literally only knew 1 teacher was a mother because her daughter was in my science class.

that is actually a very good point. in all my years of school, i only knew the sexual detail of two of my teachers - and it was only because they briefly mentioned their kids. I feel like, at the very least, the parents should know who the teachers are so they can establish trust and accountability. Why would you hand over your kids for 8-10 hours a day to a bunch of strangers? But yeah, the kids themselves shouldn't get very close to teachers. All they should know is that their parents trust them and they're going to teach them stuff. They shouldn't know about the teacher's gender or sexuality or even what color their dog's shit was last night. I didn’t have anything that stringent with my teachers. From as far back as I can remember up until high school graduation in 2016, there was never some issue with teachers over sharing their private lives. We’d learn occasional tidbits but nothing beyond basic small talk you’d experience between normal people.
Like for example my engineering teacher who also taught AP physics walked in one day and said: “Who wants to see a declassified document?” He then unraveled a blueprint schematic for the B-2 Bomber he helped design when he worked at Boeing
I mostly only knew very shallow details about my teachers. I knew my history teacher had two young children because he used to tell cute stories about them puking on him on the train and stuff. I knew my German teacher liked beer and football. I knew my physics teacher liked to skateboard. I knew my ethics teacher had a son my age because she once told me I reminded her of him.
That's pretty much it. None of our teachers ever directly told any student about their politics, sexuality, detailed private life or anything of that sort. It's simply not relevant and not appropriate. In school, they exist to teach stuff to the children. Not to be their friends, not to indoctrinate them, not to tell stories

You of all people should be aware of this! Especially after Dave doxxing himself and how that went! It doesn't matter that it can be dug up. One of the questions you kind of passed by, a bit, that might be worthy of a video of its own is: "Is it ever OK to doxx anyone?" (That'd be sure to tick off a lot of your fans, but it WOULD be an interesting vid, for sure!)
So to that end: Do I think there are ever reasons for doxxing someone? Yes, honestly. But they are extremely limited, and could, I think, be codified under the law (if they ever do anything about section 230) or at least derived from existing law (if you know anything about policing.) The people you showed who were advocating for inappropriate child sexual content SHOULD be doxxed, but to their local city/county/state police department(s), and maybe the FBI, considering on circumstances (for instance, was that camp getting kids sent there from across state lines? That might make it federal.) not necessarily the internet at large. Because the police have to follow the law, whereas crazy netizens may just kill them because they know where to find them. (This is my biggest worry these days - really, since the GOP Baseball Shooting. One crazy Bernie Bro, and wow, a whole new level of crazy to worry about!)
I don't know WHAT to do about the teachers, honestly. At the moment, my best answer is that if I were Libs, I think I would have to draw the line at something like "tell me what school district you're in and I'll let you know if this person is in your district" as an approach. Clearly, parents have a right to know if one of these crazy people is in their district or their child's school, and districts are broad enough that them telling you their district wouldn't put their individual family at risk (in theory), and you could refuse to tell anyone what school the person teaches at if it didn't directly involve them. That seems like a possible solution. Because while it's important for the parents in the district to know what's going on, it's not OK to have giant pile-ons of people who are unrelated to the issues at hand, IMO.
Likewise, the "sex camp" and the "sex show" should have been publicized to their individual cities/counties/states, not necessarily the entire country. Again, I think I would contact the police directly, and let them figure out if the people are as sketchy as they sound, and if they are breaking laws there.

It's one thing to expose someone's workplace and another entirely to expose your personal address. Although it is still possible that someone might go to the workplace to assault or harass someone it is much more threatening to think of someone coming to your home. You wouldn't feel safe anywhere. I understand why people move when this sort of thing happens.

There would be gossip & joking among the students if we ever found out anything about their personal lives from someone that knew them, or seen them outside of school, but no information would ever come from the teachers themselves.

@@ShortFatOtaku I guess what i'd object to is the line that neither of them have a principled objection to doxxing, sorry for paraphrasing there I couldn't find the timestamp for it. I think there is a very significant distinction between discussing what school a teacher who is including objectionable materials in their curriculum works at than what we typically conceptualize as doxxing. It fits the same broad umbrella but teachers are government employees and parents absolutely have a right to know if a teacher at the school their child goes to is grooming kids either politically or sexually, I suppose a better alternative would be for her to respond to such inquiries via DMs but that could become totally infeasible really fast considering she has a million followers. Principles such as free speech and a right to privacy have always had some limitations and exceptions for government employees at least insofar as they are serving as government employees. I can't say I have fully organized my thoughts on this but to me it really seems to be a very different beast from posting someone's full name in an article then retroactively justifying it by saying they could be foreign agents or whatever lorenz was trying to claim.

The difference is teachers are tax-payer funded, and if they’re doing something outside of the curriculum, parents should be aware/notified. Teachers are not free agents. You even need parents to sign permission slips for off-school (but school-run) trips. Even if it’s just walking to the park.
LibsOfTikTok is a random citizen that doesn’t work for the government/tax-payer. Their info isn’t of public necessity. The excuse that “well, if you do enough digging, _at one point_ their name was public” isn’t comparable to a phone book. It would be like revealing someone’s original name, after going through witness protection under a pseudonym. And given how ubiquitous the internet is nowadays, you’re bound to have your name _somewhere_ if you dig enough. Reminder they found Shia LeBoeuf’s location with a flag on the wall and a nearby window. There are plenty of people who will find you, if they’re dedicated, and that shouldn’t be your fault. Whether that’s hypocritical, I don’t know, but I think there is a significant difference that’s at least worth considering.

As much as you really love to pretend disparate things are equivalent Dev, there's a significant difference between taking videos where people put their face online and expose their own names and sometimes jobs, which is simply spreading identifying information that someone chooses to make public, and undertaking an investigation in which you dig up information so.eone wishes to keep private and publicize it. You pare this down to political motivations, which is dishonest without better information than you present here.
Libsoftiktok literally just reposts content that has already been posted by these private accounts. What they don't like is their echo chamber being penetrated.
No, what they're doing is not the same thing.
It's true Libs name was attached to the account in the past, but it was removed prior to this whole attempt. It's only by trolling archives that you can dredge it up. That in itself is entirely different from things that are actively available now. But that's a bit of a weaker point, I'll admit, but isn't necessary as there is a far more defining point between the two.
The real difference is relevance. LibsofTiktok is posting the publicly avaialble information as its relevant to the perceived harm they see. A teacher abusing their official capacity has to be identified in order for any perceived harm to be addressed. The tiktok they posted isn't actually the offense, after all, it's the behavior they admit to in the tiktok that is the problem. Parents have to know what teacher and what school in order to take corrective action. By contrast, the "offense" that Libs is committing is irrelevant to who they are. If what they are doing is "wrong" then the only thing you need to correct that is the twitter handle and the offending posts. This is drastically different in both motive and nature. Yes, both are trying to get someone fired, but Libs is trying to get someone fired for abusing their position, while Taylor is trying to get them fired from their unrelated job for holding "bad" opinions. That's the difference. It's the difference between dropping bombs on military bases vs. apartment buildings. Both require addresses, but they are not alike.

@@ShortFatOtaku I think the biggest problem is the ambiguity of "worse". I'd say the vast majority of people commenting considered the difference to be big enough that a truly equivalent comparison is no longer fully fair ie. it is MUCH worse, not just worse.

It's the difference between shooting someone in self-defense and shooting someone in a robbery. Both are the "same action", pulling the trigger, shooting someone, but I would not say those people are doing the same thing but one is worse. I would say they aren't doing the same thing at all.
I think others are having this same kind of reaction which is why there is this pushback and miscommunication. Certainly, you can boil it down to "revealing identifying information", but I think that's too reductionist and missing the meaning behind the actions. It's not that Lorenz is bad because she has bad targets, it's that she's bad because she's practicing intimidation, while Libs is practicing activism. You can certainly argue that Libs is doing something bad as well, that's a different argument, but ultimately it's a case where the same "action" is actually two different "action"s.

I'm curious, you didn't post any (blurring them out even) of LoTT where they doxxed anyone, calling out the places of employment or whatnot. Are they supposed to blur the faces of the people they post, when the person themselves don't blur their own faces? Or cut out where they out their own place of employment? That being said, I'd prefer if they kept their own opinions and didn't bother editing the clips at all, even if it is just to make them shorter. The videos do speak for themselves especially with full context.

I'll admit that I don't use tiktok at all so I haven't got a damn clue where it is, but what I'm saying Ms. Newman, is that if you're going to take the time to make a video and then back up the claim in comments it would make sense to point out what you think is the obvious about the objections people have if you're saying that you know the particulars in question.
